Are you up for a challenge on your cardio day (s)? I mean the ultimate challenge. Try out a 1 hour cardio workout as defined by scooby. They consist of scoobervals. Kind of like high intensity intervals, but scooby style. Notch it up a level ! Ok, enough spin. Here is the workout (Reprinted here for your convenience): http://scoobysworkshop.com/scoobervals/ 7 min warmup Speed test (3min) 1 min max speed (note speed at end) 2 min rest calculate 80% of your one minute max Repeat 3x (21min) 5 min at 80% max, hold speed 80% 2 min rest Repeat 5x (15min) 2 min max 1 min rest 2 min additional rest Repeat 6x (12 min) 1 min max 1 min rest It can be done w…

Thank you in advance for your feedback. It is a actually several questions, so feel free to respond to any of the questions that apply to you, or you feel particularly interested in responding to. How many of the very large undecided/pre/post WLSers would or have gone to a yoga class specifically aimed at very heavy people? The pace and range of the exercises and equipment, modifications, and feedback and motivation were geared only to what you were in that moment, only what you could achieve right then? No huge long-term goals to build up, get over or anything - just show up, be in your breath and body and do some yoga with like minded people? Have you had access to …

Hi All, I'm fairly new here, my sleeve surgery is booked for 4th August, my current weight is 270lbs and I need some opinions on whether I could possibly be fit enough to run a 5k by Thanksgiving? I'd love to have a fitness goal to work towards and there is a Turkey Trot in my town that includes a 5k run or walk. I'd love to enter but am not sure if I could be ready in the just over 16 weeks between surgery and run day. (I could walk but would rather run if possible.) Right now I can't even walk the dog for 20 minutes round the block without having to rest half-way. I don't get winded but I get such severe pain in my lower back I have to stop. Knees are okay though.…

Hello all. I'm about a year and a half out from my lap band to gastric bypass revision and I'm just not losing weight anymore. I've never made goal and I accept my part in that. This last month I've really gotten back on track and begun to focus on doing things right. Just wondering if anyone out there is using a Fitbit and if you find it helpful. Any tips or tricks??

I'm a year out now and I've been exercising since the beginning. Walking at first, then jogging/running. I attend yoga classes, BodyFlow classes (think: yoga, Pilates), CxWorx (core exercise classes), and workout at home (30 lb weight & body weight exercises). I'm just so happy with my 112 lb weight loss! Here's my frustration: When I was 170 -180 lbs (nearly a decade ago), I used to lift heavier weights (bench press 75 lbs, leg press +900). So, nowhere near bodybuilder, but somewhat strong for a girl under 5'. I then gained weight/ stopped exercising/ stopped lifting... Then came wls... My current weight is 128 lbs. I figured I wouldn't be able to lift what I us…

I have a membership and it's close by and my family is very supportive. But I'm scared to walk into the place. I think I may make an appointment with a trainer and have them work out a fitness plan for me. Since I don't really know what to do or how to get started. My husband and I walk every evening. And my daughter and I go for bike rides which I haven't done in seven years. I was banded on May 9th. I'm down 33 pounds. Size 18 clothes. Was a 22. I've been trying to psych myself up for my first gym visit and I'm scared to death.

I got a nifty polar hr watch and strap for my b-day and am having a blast with it to improve my run training. It is a high end model and I literally spent a few weeks researching the different hr watches on Amazon before going with it. It does not have gps nor does it count steps or monitor sleep patterns, but that is fine by me as I primarily wanted a hr monitor with "Swiss accuracy." Battery life is supposed to be 5 years. This one trumps my cheap 20 dollar polar watch I used previously. If you have experience with both running and use of a hr monitor for training running patterns, then I have some questions for you. Sorry- this post is going to exclude most folks. I…

Loving my new charm bracelet that has charms for all my fitness NSVs! So far: plumeria flower for Maui Half Marathon, engraved charm for OKC memorial half, ragnar charm for the Miami to Key West Ragnar Relay, and tiara for the Disney Princess Half. Looking forward to adding more in the future, but taking a break right now for orthovisc injections in my knee and plastics next month.

Hello everyone, I did my surgery 3 years ago and i was 140k and I reach 60 but now I'm 70 after workout and a rich diet of Protein its killing me that I think that I cant build enough muscles. I have been working-out for 2 months and half. I always make sure that I get 140 gm of Proteins. I see some change but I couldn't get more. For your info I had to remove my Gallbladder. What I wanna know is there any bodybuilder who did Sleeve ? Anyone can help me with supplements not a protein ?

Sprinting is known to really increase the T for leaner, stronger and more fit bodies, so I thought, why not. Strapped on my hr sensor and put on my polar watch. Resting hr: 55 5 minute dynamic stretch (up to 95) 5 min warmup @ 6.0 mph (up to 125) For 10 minutes (got treadmill up to speed before starting) Jump on Sprint 30 @ 12.5 mph and 3 incline (up to 161) Jump off Rest for 30 s -- (down to 155) 5 min cool down jog (down to 99) Static stretch ( down to 75) As you can see, I just barely went anaerobic (160 is bottom of my anaerobic zone) during the sprinting which means I need to increase the incline a tad. Speed is …

I just returned from my walk -- I have been doing an hour of fast walking every day and I'm feeling really good. I used to say I was going for a walk, or going to workout, etc., but now I say I'm going for my walk. I am headed to the basement for my workout. Things in my brain and my body have really shifted and now exercise is an absolute priority. It's not something I fit in if I can, and I'm no longer pretending I want to do it when I really don't. I want to! I own this now in a new way. It's my body and my exercise. Yippee!

Can anyone help me run faster? I started a Couch to 5K program in January and am just finishing it up. My daughter asked me to run in a 5k with her for Mother's Day. I have the endurance part down and can run for 30 minutes. I've moved from the treadmill to running outside over hilly terrain ("hills are our friends" my Boston Marathon running pal tells me) but I am very slow. I have short legs and am even a slow walker. I will be lucky if I can finish the 5K in 45 minutes. Today was the worse! While I was really pushing myself to work on my speed, I hear someone behind me. It's this guy who must have been at least 85 years old. And he was walking! And he passed…

I know exercise routines and gym time needs to fit around busy schedules (work, school, kids, Saints football games), but I was curious as to when most people exercise and why at that time? Would it be different if you didn't have the above mentioned factors? ..... Let's say like "RETIRED FOLKS." I work in the afternoon..... And add to that I'm NOT a "morning person," so my favorite time to exercise is MID-MORNING! Once I get that workout done, I'm so motivated to let my band help me keep my food in check for the rest if the day......Just curious!!!!!!

Hi folks. I'm four weeks out now, and have moved from 4000 steps a day the first week to now a daily goal of 7000, but recently hitting 10,000 and 12,000 a few days a week. My weight loss though has slowed a good bit. I'm eating 650-700 calories a day starting of course with protein and very few carbs (just in small fruit servings as directed). I"m enjoying hiking and moving, but hate that the weight loss has slowed so much - about a half pound to one pound a week. I've even had two days this past week when I hit 50 flights of stairs in one day - am I walking too much? Thoughts or ideas anyone? I'd love to keep my weight loss moving, as well as my body!

I am transitioning into a new workout plan starting June 1st and am thinking about how to best organize a cardio day for maximum fat burning. It has been common knowledge for people to do a cardio workout first in the morning, in a fasted state, such that stored glycogen will be depleted and there is no in transit carbs or fat to use for energy. There have been many published studies on the approach. The principle is that muscles will use stored fat instead of stored glycogen for energy. In theory I believe this to be true, but pragmatically do not have the time to exercise in the morning because of earlier shift work. Would the following approach produce similar res…

I thought I would put this out there and see if anyone has any ideas/suggestions and if we can generate some ideas, maybe we can help one another. I'm 32 years old but I became disabled many years ago due to chronic pain, health issues, etc.… I have a lot of physical limitations and also constant severe pain to contend with. I had my sleeve done in September 2013. I've lost a good amount of weight but, I would like to lose more. Even though I have physical limitations, I wanted to see if anybody might have some ideas when it comes to exercise. I need to work on those "flabby areas" and I know that that's going to require lifting some weights. I would like to also streng…

I bought myself a new schwinn this week. I haven't ridden in 30+ years. I have a friend who has bee bugging me to do this and she hasn't ridden this year yet. We went out yesterday and did a bike trail that was 6 miles. My right knee is feeling it but we were so proud of ourselves for finish the trail. I still need to get my adjustments down on the seat and bars and get my needed accessories for comfort convenience and safety. I also downloaded this app "map my ride"

Hey Everyone! I'm in the process of getting ready for surgery (tentative date June 7th). Forgive my silly/newbie questions... I wanted to ask you veterans, if any of you hike, and if so, how are you fueling? Right now when I hike (in the Smoky Mountains), I usually carry cliff bars/almonds, jelly Beans...ha. So what do you use for fuel now that you have a smaller stomach? Or do you just eat more often? I guess I'm worried about not having enough "fuel". I once was on Medifast (low cal, low carb), and have never felt so zapped of energy, and am afraid that with the surgery I'll feel the same. And one more question. How long after your surgery were you able to…

So I am sure many of you deal with very busy hectic lives find it hard to fit in exercise. I am needing advise on how to incorporate exercise into my daily life of working about 60 hours a week at a very stressful job where my decisions affect people's lives, raising 2 step-children as my own (one that takes up my every waking minute due to her behavioral issues) and one involved in sports. My husband is so supportive of me, but he does not like to exercise either. I find myself already getting up very early in the mornings to get things done for the day and kids ready for school. I then work all day and am so tired when I finally get home and then deal with dinner, t…

How many active post op folks at or close to goal have found fitness actually helps tighten loose skin? Being about 2 years out, I am quite active, eat clean, hydrate well, take supplements (eg multi and fish oil), yet still deal with some abdominal loose skin (1/8 inch if pinch with fingers) as well as a little upper thigh loose skin. It is not terrible, yet annoying. I was hoping that putting on muscle would help. While I have a 32 " waist as well as visible definition in arms, chest, shoulder, legs and back, the 6 pack abs eludes me no matter how much lifting, cardio and ab work I do. I understand that ab work will not take care of the fat layer and I do purposefull…

I'm 4 months post op and I don't know what has gotten into me but I have lost motivation for the weight loss. I have been at the same weight for almost 2 weeks and losing hair like crazy. I haven't been able to get into the healthy eating like I'm suppose to. Hard with 2 kids that are extremely picky and wont try new things for the most part. Although I haven't had fast food or soda since I had surgery. I need help cooking healthy, I'm lost when it comes to cooking really. Although I do have a couple of healthy cooking cookbooks for wls patients. Yesterday I competed in my first duathalon. The format was 2 mile run 16 mile bike ride then another 2 mile run. The weather was brutal as we had 20 plus mile per hour winds and it poured rain for most of the race. Despite the weather I had fun and finished right at 2 hours. I think I would have been around 1 hour 45 minutes under normal conditions. I will be doing one of these again as i had a blast doing this!

Hi Everybody, I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and walking for exercise. Today I did 5 miles on a flat surface at a 17 min/mile rate. The balls of my feet are extremely sore. This has happened in the last couple weeks several additional times. My shoes are either Ryka or ASICS and are in good shape. I'm no stranger to walking, I've just upped the intensity and distance since coming on board with WLS. Am I walking wrong? Maybe my gait is still at my higher weight? I don't have flat feet or plantar fasciitis. My feet are normal and average. My heels are fine. What could this be? Anybody have this happen to them too? Thanks for your input.

It takes your body from flab to fab! Loving my transformation! Can't "weight" to see how much further my weight training will take me. I've upped the weight, minimized rest times to 30-60 seconds between sets, 60-120 seconds when doing the "big three". Just downed my N.O.-Xplode and I'll be working my chest and back. I'll have my post workout protein immediately afterwards. #lovingmysleeve

Well I might never do a Marathon or a Dualathon like some have on here...but I am one step closer to exercise...I couldn't find the bike I wanted in the stores so I went ahead and ordered it. its not a bike but an adult size tricycle and will be starting back at the Cantrell Center very soon. so I am on the road to "EXERCISE" in conjunction with my "BAND" and hoping to see some of these pounds come off faster...maybe I will be able to work up to a few miles on my trike and alot of lapses!!! Here's hoping!!! Have a great day everyone.

I'm getting closer and closer to my surgery date (tentatively scheduled for early July), and I've started to get more interested in various tools that will help me monitor--and keep me motivated for--my weight loss journey. I picked up the FitBit Aria scale, and only after one use I really like it. Now i want to get the FitBit One to start tracking steps. One of the options with FitBit is to have "friends" on the app to motivate each other towards our goals. Do any of you use FitBit and/or would you want to be FitBit Friends? I don't have my FitBit linked to my Facebook, but the e-mail I'm using there is joshav8r@gmail.com. Look forward to seeing you there! Al…

I am about 5 days away from gastric bypass surgery (5/7/14). I used to use a Concept II erg to exercise because I have bad knees from playing college football and have had both hips replaced. Thus I have tried to avoid impact exercises such as running (or walking), etc. Post surgery, I plan on going back to the erg for exercise. While I will certainly follow the doctor's advice (and the physical therapist), I am hoping that there are other erg users out there that can weigh in (no pun intended) on the subject. Will also be looking for some good tunes to row to. Suggestions and comments invited.

I am 3 years out. I haven't been posting much in the fitness group lately but I've still been working out 4-5 times a week. I've been going back and forth on deciding if I should post these but I decided to go for it. I still have a bunch of loose skin I will have removed but even with the loose skin I've been able to tighten up quite a bit. I don't do heavy lifting much anymore, although a couple of years ago I trained with a lady that was a body builder. Most of my toning comes full body weight exercises. I do add weights in with the exercises some, too, just not really heavy weights. Once in a while I still do some heavy lifting because I enjoy it. I change up my rou…

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on April 1st. After two weeks I went for an update with my doctor. Oddly he cleared me to work out a train after two weeks. Thankfully I had family & friends who had this bariatric sleeve surgery the same one that I did. They were there for moral support and any questions or concerns I had. They told me not to work out after two weeks and wait up to six weeks. While I was having side pains from nerve muscles, I scheduled an appointment with the doctor two weeks later which made it a month from the day of surgery. He told me work out it was okay and take a painkiller if you're still having their pains. Not my pain is gone, so I star…

OK everyone...after a month away from the internet I am back! I saw there wasn't an April Challange posted yet so I figured I would start one. Hopefully some old faces are still around and hopefully alot of new ones! It doesn't matter your fitness level, this is not a competition. Just a fun way to challange yourself to set a goal, get moving and push yourself to exercise. So make a goal...any goal and let's have some fun! I will kick it off. I plan on a total walking and exercise bike mileage of 130+ miles this month. My best month was around 135 I believe. So 130+ is this months goal. Time to get crackin!

Ok, I'm 3 months out and I work out 6days a week ruffle around 45 minutes daily (elliptical, weights, kick boxing) on top normal housework and etc. I am consuming around 600 calories a day and I'm drinking over 64oz and getting around 70 grams of Protein daily. The Nut told me I should burn around 1500 calories a day to lose weight. but wouldn't put my body in starvation mode? I'm so confused because I am working out and I don't see any lost nor gain I'm flat lining it. any ideas?
