I am a little over 4 months out and have lost 61 lbs. I haven't started working out yet but I want to start running again. I'm afraid that working out will stall my weight loss. I know I need to start toning. Is this just silly thinking? Thanks!

Ok, I prepped and planted my veggie garden today. Small garden, so it took only 45 minutes. Yes, I was sweating and tired and sore (arthritis) when done, but when I calculated the calories burned on MyFitnessPal and another calc site, it came out to way more burned than a mile of walking does on the treadmill at 3.0 mph. I found this weird. Does anybody else consider gardening to be exercise? (Maybe because of all the bending and digging.....?)

I did this mountain bike ride today: http://www.gjhikes.com/2013/03/great-pyramid-loop.html I only dumped my bike twice, no blood, but if I hadn't been wearing a helmet I doubt that I would be here. Oh, and I need a new helmet now. But this was better than sex and believe me, I really like sex a lot! This trail taken at speed made any carnival ride I have been on seem bland and boring. I'm going to go soak now, I have a feeling I am going to be a tad stiff tomorrow.

We live in a beautiful area with a much-climbed mountain, which I have to say I have not climbed much in the last ten years. Okay, maybe not at all -- certainly not to the top! So this morning when I was walking with a friend on the road and we passed one of the trail heads we decided to go for it and see if we could find one of the short loops around the base. Ha! Bushwhacking ensued, but it was really fun and great exercise. So beautiful to be deep in the woods and to feel mobile again. Able. And I guess the ability comes because of the willingness just to go for it -- I have missed that kind of spontaneity in my life and can tell that it has returned with my wei…

http://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/482941343 I had two goals: 1. Ride more than 10 miles: I am more proud of today's 10.5 miles than any distance I have ever put on my Road bike. 2. See what was on the other side of a ridge that kicked my ass last week: I had to walk my bike to the top of the ridge, But I now know what is there.

I have two questions or things I would like advise/opinions on. 1. Stationary Bike - I have a dual action stationary bike and I love it. I plan on upgrading someday to a newer bike or an elliptical. However, my issue now is that it hurts my butt so bad! I am good for the first half our and then the pain kicks in. Does anyone have suggestions for seat modifications or aftermarket seats that I can try? There is no way that I am alone in this issue. What has been tried that works? Epic fails? 2. Most times after a workout I do not have time for a shower right away. Does anyone know of a brad of wipe that can clean me up a bit after a hard workout? I have baby wi…

Hello, I am new here. A little background: I have struggled with my weight most of my life starting in adolescence. In my late 20s, i reached near 300#.I lost about 35 pounds doing Atkins in the 2003 (no exercise). I started working out and running and doing triathlons in 2005 and dropped down to 230. I regained again in 2010 to 255#. That's when I started doing crossfit. I dropped down to 215, but due to a cross-country move this year I am back up to 240#. I have been unable to lose even 2-3 pounds since. I still do crossfit 4 times a week, plus at least one day of extra heavy lifting. Despite my best efforts in eating well, it just seems like my body is…

I'm a month out today and I've been trying to get out to the park to walk almost every day. I've only been getting about a mile in and by the time I'm done with that I feel like I've pushed myself through an intense workout. I have to immediately go home and lay down and I usually feel dizzy. For comparison, last summer I did an 18 mile bike trail and I didn't feel this bad afterwards. So being a month out I'm not getting in hardly any carbs, not enough Protein, and I'm still struggling with Water. Should I maybe try to "carb load" before I work out? Obviously I don't mean a bowl of Pasta, but maybe some juice?

Wow... One of the local trails is finally open and can be ridden. Such a harsh winter had us off to a late start. My first race is in 2 weeks and today was only my second ride of the year. Worry no more though. My type of gym workouts has gotten me in even better shape than I was at the end of last years season. 15 miles in under an hour. Legs felt great and all of my climbs were out of the saddle in big gear. Very happy!!

I have this...pouch...(for lack of a better word to describe it) underneath my belly button, it's kind of like a second belly. I was wondering if anyone knows of some exercises that would help tone it? It's definitely shrinking since surgery, but I'm really self conscious of it, and would like to help the process along. Thanks!

I'm still learning...I still have 80 lbs to lose so I'm not in super shape! Lol but tips like- is it better to learn running on treadmill or outside or doesn't matter? Do u eat a snack after running? Does it get easier? Lol

Hi to all out there, I'm still 7 weeks out from surgery, but I have started walking daily and low-carbing 2 meals/day. I currently have Puma shoes that I walk in but I'm feeling exhausted after my walks and I have decided it is the shoes I am wearing as they lack cushion and shock-absorption. My ankles, knees and outer thighs ache during and after my walks , so I ready to buy new shoes for my walks. Anyone have a shoe brand they swear by that absorbs the shock of weight impact on the pavement? I would love suggestions! I have tried Nikes (too narrow for me but usually good at cushion). I wore Ryka's a long time ago and can't recall how I felt about those. Help…

So I haven't dropped weight in the last couple months, which is extremely frustrating. So, I think My body may just be comfortable here. I'm considering hiring a personal trainer to kick it up a notch. For those of you who have, any advice?? Specific questions to ask? What do I need to know? Any suggestions would be appreciated. This seems like a big investment, so I want to chose the right person. Thanks in advance!

The purpose of this thread is to get moving more than you did the month before. Try some new activity or work on something you are trying to improve in the fitness area. My goal for this month is to start on my 1,000 mile bike ride. I made a New Year's resolution to ride 1,000 miles between mid-March and the end of the October. Goal for this month is 75 miles.

I've been going to the gym for about a month now 3x per week for 1/2 hour with a personal trainer. She has no experience with VSG or any other bariatric surgery. The first few weeks I felt amazing and powerful during and after each session. However the last two sessions I've had to quit early due to being severely winded, not being able to catch my breath, and feeling weak/dizzy. I don't think the workouts are any different. I'm not eating any differently, if anything I've been more aware of my eating. I'm drinking lots of Water. I think I need a nutritionist but can't seem to find one who will work with me, they all say they won't take patients who didn't have surgery at…

I joined a gym when my dr gave me approval to start working out. I try to get there 3-4 days a week. Made that goal 80%of the time due to various kid sickness, school suff etc. The scale was not moving as well as I would like it to be. My friend started taking a boot camp class and said her trainer was going to hold a class in my town. She was having a lot of progress losing weight. I decided to try the class. 2 wks in the scale is finally moving again. The trainer is Ryan Ehmann who was featured on shark tank last year. He promotes using a heart rate monitor to get you in a fat burning zone. I knew about the theory, and thought I was getting in the zone but…

I'm two weeks out and it's getting warm out so I'm ready to get out and move around. But my stomach muscles are still so sore if I stand up or move around too long. I managed half a mile at the park a few days ago but it took me 15 minutes. Meanwhile my husband did 2 miles in just over 20 minutes. I know it's going to take a long time, but I'm eager to catch up with him.

I've always been naturally thin & didn't work out. About 10 years ago I had some health issues that made me gain (a lot) of weight and limited my mobility. I'm going in at the beginning if March to get GVS, and I'm eager to do my part to loosing the weight. Enough backstory.. Here's my question I'm 33 in good health now (outside of the weight which is 260) I can't keep up in group classes and usually leave crying & feeling bad. And personal trainers are very expensive I'm at a loss what I should be doing to start? I assume the first month will be modified activity like walking or nothing that requires lifting right? After that what is a good program to s…

My week typically consists of 2 cardio kickboxing classes, 1 aerobics class, full body weight training 2 times a week, sculpting/toning with resistance bands 3 times a week, 60 minutes of cardio 2-3 times a week, abs 6 days a week, 15 minutes of cardio 6 times a week, and yoga on Sundays. Sunday is what I consider my 'rest day' and I never do weight training on that day and up till now, have not done any cardio. Considering that my goal is to lose fat, do you think it would be o.k. for me to do around 40-60 mins of cardio that day? To give you some quick background: I'm a 26-year old female, I'm 3 months post op and I'm around 170 lbs. Around 8 years ago I was fairly fi…

So I have a pretty bad cold, swollen glands, runny eyes, the whole 9 yards. I feel really crappy, but don't want to get out of the routine of going to the gym. My friend mentioned that working out when you're sick can sometimes weaken the immune system and make it harder to get over it. What do you all think? Do you work out when you are not feeling great, or take some time off to rest up?

This one's for the bodybuilders out there, or at least the fitness gurus that are very concerned about building or maintaining muscle mass. I'm considering starting a course of Glutamine and Creatine to aid and preserve my gains in the gym. Frankly, at 2.5 months out, I feel weak as hell. All my reading suggests this is a safe and effective path, in the right moderation of course. I've seen many threads on here where folks are using supplements to aid their workouts. But I'd like to consolidate and see what your full day looks like for supplementation - if you'd be so kind as to humor me. Me: whey isolate - 2x day B12 1x day Multivit 2x day Calcium & magn…

When I go to the gym I usually walk two miles on the treadmill (35-40 mins) 15 minutes on the rowing machine , and also ride the stationary bike for 25 min, with some weights mixed in fr the upper body. I don;t sweat very much. It is really weird . I am exerting myself, I am breathing heavily , tired out when I am done and definitely feeling the exercise in my muscles, but I don't seem to sweat like others in the gym. My body shape and tone is really improving and I have lost 84 pounds since July 4th 2013. Is this as weird as I think it is?

I just started using the Pact app. It lets you set a goal for number of times you will exercise in a week (it also has goals for logging food and eating vegetables). If you meet your goal, you get a reward from .35 to $5, depending on how many people did not meet their goal. You set the amount if you don't do the exercise. The punishment is from $5 up. I'm going to try it for a few weeks to see if it helps get me motivated and to see how well it works. I do pretty good on exercise, so maybe if it works I'll try the logging incentive for a week or two. Anyone else using it?

Hi all - For those of you that faithfully completed insanity, p90x or a program like that can you please give your opinions of both the good and the not so good. What did you like most and what did you like least? Is it going to challenge someone who has been doing daily cross fit for a while ? One thing I do not want is to spend more than 90 minutes a day working out. 45 minutes would be ideal. And I cannot spend a ton of money, but can invest in something that costs as much as p90x if it is truly going to help me achieve my fitness goals. I have also been looking closely at this MMA fighter inspired program: http://www.amazon.com/Rushfit-Georges-St-Pierre-Ultima…

wanted to pass on my experience. one of my whines about exercising after this surgery is not being able to take motrin for muscle soreness. but my massage therapist introduced me to magnesium oil. you use it sparingly on sore muscles (it can be a little stingy or itchy when you first put it on) and it WORKS GREAT. i got mine at vitacost.com, but you can get it at any health food store.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/457389616 1. I'm only going to do 30 minutes since my legs aren't in shape. 2. Well, I'll make it 30 minutes out since it is all down hill on the way back, it won't take me long to get to the car. 3. I wonder where that trail goes... Tomorrow is not going to be fun. This is about halfway, before it got really steep. oh, and did I mention the buffalo? You see that hole in the fence? I have to go through that to get back to my car. This herd of buffalo seemed to feel they had right of way.

Wife doesn't (never) used it and I want a rower. It is the Nordic track 7.1 (now the 7.7). Brand new condition with very little use. Really nice machine, totally adjustable ramp and stride with all the bells and whistles. This thing is seriously like new. Thought I would put it up here before craigslist or eBay. New was $1300 and you can get them on sale now for $700 so would take $500 OBO.

So I've begun to incorporate a bit of jogging into my walking and I feel like a galumphing fool. I'm slightly knock-kneed and pigeon-toed (really hot, right?) and I want to kick things up a notch. I'm trying to start with short intervals of jogging while walking on the treadmill or outside. I'm a bit concerned I might hurt myself. I've had knee problems for so long I never thought that I would ever try jogging but now that I'm so much lighter it doesn't seem to bother my knees but my hamstrings get a bit sore. Are there any websites some of you runners can point me to that can help me with better form or pre and post stretching etc.? Thanks!
