Has anyone done this yet? If so, what do you think of it? I just bought it and I don't know if I should follow the classic or lean schedule and was hoping to hear from anyone with experience. I'm excited and terrified!!

Just curious, what do you do for your nutrition before and during an event like running, triathlons, etc.? I've noticed that lately I've been "hitting the wall" a lot. I've been told that its because I'm not carb loading enough or not eating enough during my exercice. I'm just curious to see what you guys do. Here is what I'm currently doing. I usually carb load before with Sweet potatoes and Pasta. The morning of an event I usually eat a waffle with Peanut Butter. During the event I usually start to get a snack around 30 minutes in and its usually at Advoare rehydrate gu or a honey stinger waffle. I also drink lots of Water. Any advice will be greatly apprecia…

My first (sprint) triathalon today! Think good thoughts for me--I don't care about time just want to finish standing and smiling! What a mental game this all is. Feels so strange to be intentionally ingesting so many carbs and calories--all in the name of fuel, but still mentally stuck on the idea of overeating. Even weirder to be "eating" 100 calorie packs of basically sugar that taste disgusting! Been trying out small amounts of the goo to see what works and agrees with me all week so that was strange too "wasting" all those calories! Anyhow--wish me luck! I think I got this!

I was all pumped to go to the gym before work tomorrow morning for the first time since my surgery. I was getting my stuff ready tonight, found my gym bag, workout pants, socks. Found a left tennis shoe, no right one in sight. Okay, that's cool, so I then found my other pair of tennis shoes, but they are mysteriously missing their laces... Oh yeah, and I can't find a tshirt to wear that fits, and I don't own a sports bra that fits. Was willing to work around the sports bra situation until the new one I ordered arrived, but I don't think I can work around the other stuff :-/ Oh so ready for hump day to come and go tomorrow!

Even a 5-minute run can help prevent heart disease Good news for runners: A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology suggests running, even for a few minutes a day, can reduce your risk of dying from heart disease – whether you plod along or go at race speed. Researchers studied more than 55,000 adults between the ages of 18 and 100 over a 15-year period, looking at their overall health, whether they ran and how long they lived. Compared to nonrunners, those who ran had a 30% lower risk of death from all causes and a 45% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, investigators found. In fact, runners on average lived three years lon…

So today was my first real day at the gym. The day before I rode the bike for 45 minutes and that doesn't really count. Today I worked with a trainer on a strength assessment test. We only did about 5 workouts and I past out at the end for a few minutes. They thought it was a blood pressure issue so they were trying to get some circulation but that just made it worse. I became semi-coherent after about 5 minutes but my vision started to blur. After 15 minutes the blood pressure didn't seem to be the problem and I remembered when I got home after surgery I had the same problem and my wife made me eat Peanut Butter to get my blood sugar up. The trainer brought over s…

I challenge all you bariatric veterans and newbies to walk 30 minutes a day! Download an app and track your progress, walking has become addictive for me! 30 minutes a day is going to give you around 50 miles a month! Since eating is no longer a sport for me, I spend my lunch break at work walking, I walk for 20-30 minutes before work, about an hour in the evening with one of my kids, wife, dog, etc. Take a day or two off, no big deal. Just do it often and after a few weeks you can't wait to get back out! My May goal was 60 miles, June was 100, and July will be 115 miles. Go for it!

Was hoping if anyone experienced having wind all day. Some days are ok but pre surgery I hardly ever passed wind as much as I do now. Jus drink it strange. Also I really want to get a tuck as my nurse sed it's the best time for me to have one if I was to get one. However I'm scared of the length of recovery time as with 3 kids from 2-7 i need to gt back on my feet. Also is there a lot of swelling as I've seen some videos n the patients seem to be swollen massively around their thigh area. I've had two c sec…

Howdy friends! I need some ideas for lower body exercise. I have crap knees (as I am sure a lot of us do from the excess weight). Right now I do three sets of squats with 30 lb dumbbells, three sets of deadlifts (the straight leg varietal) with a 30lb barbell and three sets of leg press on the leg press machine with 100 lbs. Lunges really bother my knees and I do not do them. I also have bad balance and tend to teeter about like I'm half drunk when I attempt them. I am looking for something new to incorporate in my training as these are the only lower body things I am doing. I feel like I am getting much more variety in my upper body because nothing up there hurts…

Im officially six weeks post op and soooo ready to start working out and toning up! I've been having trouble getting all my Protein in but working on it. The problem is I feel pretty weak and shaky sometimes. I have five young kids and admittedly forget to take care of myself sometimes. (Working on that too! . Can I get some suggestions for what to eat before and after a workout to keep my strength up? Like, should some healthy carbs be in a pre workout snack for energy? I won't be doing anything super intense because of being weak right now but I really want to tone up. Is it enough to keep walking and add in some strength training for now? Any and all advice is great…

I'm pretty excited about planking. The Mrs. Winnie-the-Pooh belly is much smaller now, but I really need to tone my core for every reason. Unlike a lot of exercises, this one is easy to do in a very short amount of time. Also I have wrist and hand problems and since this is on the forearms there is no impact at all. There are challenges that suggest twenty seconds to start on first and second days, then moving up to thirty, etc. These images helped me a lot:

Hi Im in desperate need of advice I had my sleeve surgery done in April (almost three months now) However, both my surgeon and my nutritionist did not advice me much on exercising. The most I got from them was to begin with a bit of a walk (that also when I felt I was ready for it) I have lost 28Ibs without any sort of exercise but now I feel I really need to get started ...need to boost that weight loss. Can someone advice me on what sort of exercise I should begin with , how many times a week and for how long.... I would love to hear about others exercise routines Im open to suggestions

The rope tracks calories burned, number of jumps and time based on the user's height and weight." Why do you need a rope in a Jump Rope? So you know you're doing it right!!!!!!!!!!!! So what's next? The barless Chin Up bar? The Virtual Stair Master?

I just wrote a check for my first 5K. It's in September and I am ridiculously excited. I will probably be walking much of it and that's fine with me (there are other walkers) but just the whole idea of being able to participate in something like this has me walking on air. I keep thinking, who is this woman who wakes up planning exercise instead of thinking about food? It's me! The new healthy me. So happy! Oh, and I got a bicycle. We are putting a basket on it now. It's one of those upright old-lady style bikes and I love it.

  23. I finally managed to lose 70 pounds!!!!!! This is a milestone for me, since I haven't been at this weight for almost ten years. After being in a rut and at a plateau for several months, I decided to get back to the gym on a regular basis. That helped, but once I decided to push myself for an hour on the treadmill and watching my heat rate, I was able to burn 800 calories in an hour and resulted in some fantastic weight losses that showed on the scale. NSV, and like many bandsters, we've fought for and earned every damn pound that we've managed to sweat off and keep off. Ideally, I need to lose another 80 pounds according to the BMI calculators, but the day I reach …

He's a big fitness science nerd, and he owns a gym here called Exercise Science. He threw around big words and sited countless studies. So here were his main points.. Muscle strength and growth is the most important thing for fitness. Blah blah metabolic, hormonal, and skeletal benefits. It's the "fountain of youth". If you compare a young control group to an older group of swimmers, an older group of runners, an older group of tennis players, and an older group of weight lifters, the weight lifting group's muscle biopsies a…

Hi all - I believe to have caused myself runners knee or something like that. I have been running, jumping and sprinting quite a bit over that past year, always pushing my physical limits. In the last week, there have been numerous occasions when my right knee locks up and it is a bit painful for 1-2 seconds. If I stop, the pain immediately dissipates. Does this sound like runners knee? For the last 2 days I have been not exercising, taking it easy, elevating it. However, I still get these sudden lock ups where pain is localized just to the right and bottom of knee cap. Just from normal walking. Sound familiar? Is this sort of thing going to fix itself and any idea how lo…

Recently I figured out I had a big crossover addicition....drinking. I was a binge drinker for a year and a half after surgery. Now I know you can't get any real weight off drinking hard liquor. Now, I am working out and cutting my carbs down. Thankfully I have no health issues like diabetes or liver damage. I have started on four supplements to facilitate more fat loss. Hi everyone, I am a newbie to the forum, but I thought I would get your thoughts about personal trainers and gyms. I have just started to exercise. I have a treadmill at home and weight machine. My surgery was almost a year ago, and the exercise part of getting healthy has been slow to contemplate for me :-). So, my question is do you prefer to exercise at home or at a gym? Do you have a personal trainer? If you do have a personal trainer what are the benefits you have seen? Thanks for your input.

I havent gotten my surgery yet but I am trying to get more activity into my life, that sadly consists of 10 hour workdays and 30 minute lunches, to be ahead of the game for surgery in September/October. Does anyone have any good suggestions of what to do while chained to a desk? I try to get up and walk at least every hour but I cant be away from my desk for more than 5 minutes before the search party comes to find me. I walk for 20 minutes of my lunchbreak but even that is starting to lose its effectiveness. Ive started to walk on my regular breaks but again, its just not enough time to feel like it is effective. Any and all suggestions are very, very much appreciated!…

Has anyone post surgery taken martial arts classes? I am wondering if it'll be ok for me to resume going after surgery. The particular class I take is for stick and knife fighting but they incorporate empty hands techniques as well. I am still very much a beginner so I don't have to fight very hard, it's all technique and form for me now. And while the idea is to not get hit I imagine the occasional blow or poke to the stomach is not out of the question as I eventually become more advanced. Just wondering if anyone has any experience in the area.

This says it is supposed to sync with mapmyfitness app or walkmyfitness...but I can't seem to get it to. Just curious if anyone has one of these. It was a lot less than fitbit. About $39.99. They did not have the fitbit so I thought I'd try this. I am anxious for something that will sync automatically; for ease and simplicity. Have you heard of it or used it? Thanks!
