LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

  1. Started by SandyM,

So, today is my 1 year bandiversary. I'm so pleased with how this has gone. No complications at all. I still watch what I eat, not always as closely as I could, but as closely as I need to. I'm at a stand still with weight loss, but I'm almost to goal, so I know if I tighten up I'll get there. Just trying to live my life and not focus on food. Hubby has lost 40 lbs during our journey and we are double pleased. He did not have surgery. I never thought I would even consider WLS, but my weight had already gotten out of control and my quality of life was diminishing. I'm just grateful for everything. I'm also very grateful for the support I have received from many b…

I have noticed that since getting lapband surgery my entire relationship with food has changed. I still have cravings and still want foods that are bad for me sometimes, and yes- I'm sure I'll make poor choices from time to time. But for the first time I can remember I don't save the best bite of food for last. It's a small change but I think it's indicative of a bigger shift in perspective. Before, when my meal was in front of me, I would save the best bite of steak, or the cheesiest potato for last, fully expecting to eat the entire portion. Now, when my meal is in front of me, I go strait for the good stuff (Protein first, of course). I'm still lea…

I had a friend who went to the same Dr as I did, and was banded in 2010, and she found out recently that her band has slipped and has to be removed. She had not been seeing her Dr in over 2 years, so no maintenance etc. I have had my band now since June 6th of last year and when she told me what happened I FREAKED. My stress level went through the roof. I had been sick with the winter crud so I had been coughing and with the holidays I had been over eating, but not to the point of vomiting, just to the point of ugh I feel miserable. Finding out about her made me stop and reevaluate everything, my eating, my habits etc. I had slacked off over the Holidays and was not bei…

Hi all. I'm 6 months out from surgery. I've lost 15 pounds since the surgery. I've had 4 fills and I have a total of 5.75cc in the 10cc band. I went for my 5th fill on March 27 but my Doctor wouldn't add any because I had lost 7 pounds since my 4th fill on 20 Feb. I knew I had lost due to the liquid/mushy I do for a few days after the fill. I had weighed the same since about 2 weeks after that fill so I knew I wasn't in the losing stage anymore. But, he wouldn't add anything. I have an appointment tomorrow morning with him. I'd like to ask him to just do a minor fill and get me to 6cc. I still weigh the same this morning as I did on my last visit with him so I h…

My last fill was done during barium xray , all fine but told no restriction so half a ml was put in ontop of the amount already in , soft things and liquid normally ok , mornings things seem tighter so anything more than yoghurt or Protein shake a no no , my throat feels sore but infection has been ruled out , is it a clue to being too tight despite it being done under xray conditions ?

I have done so well, but today, even though I didn't mess up too much, I let the day get to me. You know I became an Autism teacher to make a difference, but there are days when you just sit on the floor and cry. My patience had run out. I was no longer the saint that my principal professes I am. I no longer had the patience of Jobe and I just wanted to disappear. Please take me out of this room of screaming, running, throwing chairs and slapping and hitting. I was tired. I think the children even wore each other out. I have got to be successful, but I expect that if I fail at this it will be because of days like today. I'm too spent to work out, I ate great toda…

I had my 5th fill on Monday and I think I might be in the Green Zone or getting REALLY close. Last night I had terrible shoulder pain and during the night had to burp. This was very unpleasant as I could feel the air getting "caught" on my band. I lived through it with a little gasX but still have a little shoulder pain today. I am assuming this is due to my fill and restriction. Anyone else experience this? Very excited to be close the Green Zone - ready to "get on with it"!!!

  13. For as long as I've been overweight, I've always HATED this time of year (Spring) even more so than summer, even if in all actuality it's tied with Fall as my FAVORITE season. The reason why I dreaded the arrival of Spring every year is because I was always forced to realize how BIG I really was. Winter usually played tricks on my mind, and not to mention the inevitable pounds I always gained during that time. It kinda alway took me by surprise. I could no longer hide behind a heavy coat, a large scarf, a hat, and boots, lest I didn't mind looking all crazy in 60 degree weather. Yesterday I felt SO FREE walking my daughter to school with just my keys & p…

My band had slipped and cut off the blood supply to my stomach. Scar tissue had began forming and the stomach was starting to die. OK, this is serious..That night, my band was removed. I had my buddy band for 2 1/2 years. 120+ pounds gone and I was not having any issues..wow, when I started issues, I really started. I am now bandless and don't know if or when I can have anything else done. Due to my current weight and BMI, I don't think that will happen. Thank you all for being so honest about your pro…

Let's admit it we've all been there, those moments when we just don't think we can make it, we start doubting our abilities and strengths, we make a "mistake" and beat ourselves up over and over again and then feed ourselves to "make us feel better", then we start blaming the band, it isn't working for me, I don't understand why. Really, what ever happened to self-accountability? It's all about how we CHOOSE to deal with our feelings, so dry your eyes, dust youself off, hold your head up high and get back to what you KNOW you should be doing, and we ALL KNOW what we should be doing, it's never too lat…

I got my band back on June 21st last year and since then I've barely made any progress, I think I lost about 20lbs in the beginning and then gained some back. Then recently I needed to remove my fill because I got blocked up, and between the time it was removed and my dr refilled with 5cc I gained 14lbs. Since the fill I lost 5 but I'm sitting here thinking about how I've has the band for almost a year and have NOTHING to show for it. I feel like it's mostly my fault because I lost track of the way I'm supposed to do things. I don't know, has anyone overcome anything like this?

I've missed fast food a lot but the french fries coated my mouth with oil and the burger just didn't taste like I remembered. I guess I just don't like it anymore. I wonder how many other foods I used to eat that I wouldn't like now. Anyone else notice a favorite food just doesn't taste good anymore?

I was banded 2 1/2 weeks ago and started soft foods like fish, yams etc. I have found yesterday and today that I am able to eat a lot more than I want to. I had pan seared scallops and spinach with wild mushrooms. I had about 1/2 a cup of veggies and 6-7 medium sized scallops then wanted something sweet. Come on fill appt! Went to Dr and found that I have a dilation. All Fluid was taken out for 3 weeks and now we are gradually putting fluid back in. Having trouble with restriction and yet afraid to get tight or otherwise I will get dilated again. Has anyone experienced this nightmare and does the restriction ever come back or the band ever perform as it once was? HELP!! KP

Planning on having another child I had my BC implant (implanon) removed last week. Within three days I was questioning how I ever ate so much food! For the past three years I have just been eating everything in sight! Now I know I will be able to loose weight! I did it before lost 91 pounds in a year. Eating healthy and working out and since the implant was put in I couldn't do it! Sad about spending 10k on my surgery but excited about post pregnancy weight loss! Maybe I won't gain 60 pounds with the next baby!

You know how "you just know it" when you meet the "right" person, or when you're having a great day? No one can explain it to you or describe it to you, except through their own experience...... But, when you experience it, "YOU JUST KNOW IT!" That's how being GREEN is for me.... I read about it ( a lot), I heard others talk about it (a lot), I researched it (a lot), but now..... I JUST KNOW IT! And now I know why I NEEDED to wait these few months before I found MY sweet spot. For me, I needed my brain to catch up with reality. I don't think I was ready (mentally) for the truly small portions I am now eating. Thankful that "I'M GREEN AT LAST!"

Back on track with my water and protein. Going to the gym here in a bit. I know its going to be like starting over there. Haven't worked out in over 6 weeks. I have been having a lot of GI problems over the last several month or so. The pain became unbearable this week, so I went to my dr and she thinks it's due to artificial sweetners. As I think about my diet, much of what I eat has these sweeteners in them. I will do anything to avoid the pain and bloating caused by the artificial sweetener, so I am looking for ideas on how to revamp my diet. I could care less about eliminating most of it, but I think I'm really worried about protein shakes because they are my go to item. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I took some tums before bed and woke up feeling the same burning. I took more tums and my Prevacid but the burning won't give up. I have read where several people on this site take antidepressants and so do I. I read maybe too much, but there is something that we shouldn't take and it is called tryptophan. It is in food and multi vitamins. I know we aren't supposed to take the vitamins that have this in it, I was wondering if anyone felt jittery or any difference after drinking protein shakes or protein bars? Tryptophan is in whey protein and I think all protein drinks, even if it's not listed. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
