LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

  1. It's been one week since I got my band partially unfilled (due to a reaction to anti-inflammatories). Although I still have 3ccs in my lapband, it is almost like I'm not a WLS patient. I say almost, because thankfully those 3 ccs can be felt and I don't eat as much as I could if I were completely unfilled. I definitely eat more than when my band is at optimal fill-level; I'm eating around 1500 calories a day when to lose weight I can't exceed 1200 day in-day out. I do get full a smidge earlier than prior to being banded, so that's a small ray of hope that I'm not going to gain all my weight back while I wait out the three months until I can get re-filled. I weight myse…

I usually exercise twice a day. I skipped this morning because I've been feeling crappy (sinus infection) the past couple days. I had some trouble today with things staying down. But I thought I got in enough calories to work out. So I did my regular workout. Well now I can't get dinner down and my band hurts. Wondering if I should do liquids for a couple days and no exercise? I'm afraid if I don't exercise that my band will tighten up and I not be use to my workout routine.

I have a friend, actually shes a friend of the family that keeps asking me about how I'm losing weight. She is about 150 lbs overweight and I want so bad to talk to her and fill her in but, I haven't shared my news with my husbands side of the family and don't really want them to know. But, I feel I should fill her in on her options. I could see when I visited with her the other day that she is so down about herself. I was wondering how many people over 65 have had this surgery and how you fared with it. Also, does medicare pay for it?

  10. I have a 14 cc band and have 11.1 cc in, am getting discouraged...I will lose 3-4 lbs right after the fill and then in the following weeks I lose restriction and gain most of what I lost. I use sparkpeople to record calories and was banded in nov 2013, have lost around 24 lbs but have been playing with the same weight for awhile now. Anyone else experience restriction only to lose it after every fill?

So I'm using MyFitnessPal to track all my calories , water, exercise, and progress. My goal is 1,100 per day according to my fitness profile due to my weight, my activity level and wanting to lose 2 lbs per week. I have been within or under my calories every day, working out (treadmill, elliptical, or outside running) for 35-65 mins six days per week, drinking water (probably could drink more). The stupid scale won't budge in 4 weeks now!!! I did have a slight (0.5cc) unfill a few weeks ago due to being too tight and not being able to even drink fluids. But I'm ok now and thought as long as I'm staying in my calories and exercising I would continue to lose, but no...I…

Hi, does anyone know if it's common for bandsters to have elevated WBCs? I felt tired, so I had a CBC done because I thought I maybe anemic. The good news is that I'm not anemic, but my WBCs were elevated (15.8), which means I have some kind of infection. My family doctor and I could not figure out the source of this infection...I feel completely perfectly fine and nothing hurts. Just had a check up with my Bariatric doctor a couple of weeks ago to get a slight unfill and he said everything looked good. My family doctor was thinking maybe the "infection" and high WBCs are due to having a foreign body inside of me?? Has anyone experienced this??

So had my first fill today under fluoro and found out i already had 2 cc's in my band. The doctor put in 2 more and i am at 4 cc now. I had to do barium swallow and wondering if this is why i am so bloated and gassy now. Has anyone had this experience? I am on clear liquids today followed by full liquids for a day or two.

I haven't felt like there was any restrictions with my 1st fill unless I happened to eat to fast or got stuck...so am alittle scared about fill 2!!! I know they will be adding at least 1 cc I think...what can I expect? Is there more pain or anything like that? Do I have to be really careful on what I eat? I know for first few days back on liquids...but just wondered if you can really tell the restrictions...this will be a total of 3 cc's!!! Thanks for any information/advice you can offer!!!

  22. Having lapband later this month, and I don't know anyone whose had the surgery. My surgeon is great, but is reluctant to give me any real indication of how quickly patients typically lose weight. He's given me a caloric "formula" for weight loss which makes sense, but I'd like to know from other people who have been banded: how much did you lose in the first month? How long before the weight loss slowed down, and how much, on average, are you losing per month now? For what it's worth, I'm female, late twenties. BMI of 41.

I had my lapband surgery a little over a year ago and have lost 55lbs. My weight loss has now stalled even though i have been following the plan 1200 calories daily drink at least 64oz Water, and even increased my exercise. All this to no avail....I am very thankful that at least the scale didn't show a gain. I started yesterday on the liquid pre/post surgery diet. I am unsure how long I will stay on this ...but i have already lost 2lbs. Anyone else have this problem?

The thing is in every attempt to lose weight, like this one, I get to a point where I'm not that unhappy with myself. I want to lose more but am pretty happy with myself now (compared to where I was before) so it's hard to find the motivation to work out and plan healthier meals. It gets easier to focus on the kids, house, etc then myself. Anyone else have these points in time? I'm hoping with warmer weather I will find renewed motivation to step things up and stay on track to finding an even healthier me. Any s…

  28. Hello! I wanted to start up a ongoing support thread for all of us who are actively seeking the extra help from either regular Weight Watchers or most especially Weight Watchers Online. I do not have the money to fork over for extra fees to attend the WW meetings etc. I also am not sure how many banded folks there are on their message board. I thought this would be a good place to hang out, discuss how well or not well we are staying within our points system, our extra activities and whatnot. We can share ideas or new recipes, or just anything related to Weight Watchers... and even keep each other accountable. Help me, I need support!!

I am 10 1/2 weeks out of surgery. My weight was not moving. No matter what I ate or how I was exercising. I was living on approx. 1000 calories/day. A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks. I cooked all my food and measured it etc. Same amount of exercise as at home. Then I cheated...I indulged in cocktail hour with our friends each day. I had a small glass of red wine (4 oz) each day and weight has started to fall off. Huh? Is there something in that red wine that has boosted my metabolism or changed the way the fat is burning off? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi friends, Quick question here. The hardest part of getting back on track for me has been two things, 1. sugar, and 2. keeping my meals within 20-30 minutes. The manual given to patients at True Results-Houston says that we should finish our meals within 20 minutes ideally, 30 minutes max. It also says that what we put in our mouths should be pea sized. I find it very difficult to eat pea size pieces of food and finishing a meal in 20-30 minutes. It would take forever if that was possible. Not to mention that we have to chew our food into it is liquified. How are you guys taking this advice? Do you place pea size pieces of food when you chew and if you do, how do you fi…

I have to have 80-120 gms of protein. I am supposed to do this for 2 weeks before surgery & I'm only on day 6 and have lost 7lbs! Last night my band was removed, after a few painful months that ended in pain for 3 days straight. Even Water hurt. So I'm home and it hurts to swallow. I had trouble swallowing pills at the hospital. It turns out my ulvula was damaged-most likely from the anesthesia. Its actuslly laying on the back of my tongue. Has this happened to anyone? The hospital my surgeon operates out of is an hour and a half away. So I dont want to head back there. Should I put a call into his office?
