LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

LAP-BAND support. Fills, the band diet, complications, band removal, and revision to sleeve or bypass.

Got my lap band on 4/1/14 and don't feel much different but have lost 26 lbs so far. Am scared on how first fill will go, and how much it will restrict me. Was really hoping to have lost more by now but am feeling good about what I have lost. Any ideas of how the fill will go?

  2. So, when last I was on here I was talking about how I hadn't been losing (plateau for over 3 years) and really wanted to lose the rest of my weight. Well, my last fill was just over a week ago and I'm down 4lbs! If it was slightly more, I'd be happy, but I'm good with this. Nothing in the last three days, but I'm sure I'm heading in the right direction. Down! My band is 10cc and I believe I'm at 7cc now. Way more restriction than I've ever had. A little uncomfortable at times, but if this is what it takes, I'm doing it. I'm hoping to reach my next goal of 145lbs by mid-June. I need to be realistic, but this should be doable with this restriction I have going now…

I was banded about 10 days ago and am very happy with my weight loss- 18 pounds already, but I am very depressed about the summer 2-3 months from now. Will I ever be normal? Will I be able to go to dinner with friends to a normal, Italian restaurant and enjoy something normal? I am happy on one hand and depressed on the other. Any advice and feedback from past banders would be great.

Just watched his show on lap bands. Anyone else see it. He's touting it for people 40 pounds overweight. And he didn't even mention complications. I'm so livid. It was such a poorly researched segment. I actually refuse to watch him anymore and switched over to Ellen while im working out.

I have had the lap band for five years. Does anyone have trouble with melon and/or salad greens? I throw them up almost immediately. I miss cantaloupe and watermelon. Salad would be nice. I eat slowly and chew it thoroughly but I can' keep it down. I can eat everything else. Any ideas? Thanks.

Oven Baked Zuccini chips yummo:-) Thinly Slice zuccini with a mandalin or if you're good like that with a knife:-) Lay betwee two paper towels and press the moisture out. Brush weach with EVOO and season with salt, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne or whatever seasoning you like. Bake at 225 degrees. The recipie I used said for 2 hours BUT that was waaay too long so keep an eye on them I would say 30-45 min. or until crispy and golden brown. OR if you really feel ambitious you can do the same but dip them in 2 egg whites, 1/4 c fresh parm cheese season to taste and bake at 450 for 14 min. flipping 1/2 way. I haven't tried this one yet but it sounds good and adds s…

  14. I just need support today, and I know this forum is the place. I got a fill yesterday, but left the doctor's office crying. It's that time of the month (great!), and I have had an epiphany of sorts. I went through a traumatic break up about 2 years ago, and I am still not really healed. I thought this person would be a friend for life, but we are enemies now and there is nothing I can do about it. Why does that matter? I feel like when you aren't emotionally healed from something, it is easy to fall back on old crutched. It's funny....I dont' drink a drop or smoke.....but food is certainly an addiction as well. I am tried of self sabotaging my life. I am tired o…

I know I posted my NSV last night about buying my first dress in like forever, but I just have to post another 'experience'. I am still so new to the thinner me that I need to check it and reinforce the change I've made all the time. It's almost not enough just to see the clothes fit. Heck, I hold them up and wonder how I can possibly fit into them. The other thing I can't get used to is the bus/train seats. For those who take mass transit, you know what I mean. For those who drive, you should know that the seats on the bus or train are notoriously narrow. It's a rare thing to see seven people actually sitting in a row of seven seats. There was a time when I would s…

  19. Six days left of the trial of trials. I'm so ready for food. A week of Clear liquids pre-op and six weeks of full liquids post-op is finally entering the home stretch. Thankfully I've had good Soups this whole time, but moving to solids next week, I sure won't miss soups going forward. I'm starting to have daily daydreams about chewing food. I made it through my birthday on liquids and will make it through Easter on liquids. As an early Mother's Day celebration, my best friend and I are taking our mothers out for high tea four days after I start food, and one day before my first fill. I know I'll have to be careful that day, but I can't stop thinking about it! I'm happy I…

I'm reading alot about folks reaching goal, trying to reach goal, almost at goal, not successful, not as successful as they want to be, blah, blah, blah.... So...here's the question. What is it that means success to you? Is it reaching a goal weight? Is it some NSV that you've attained? Is it a change in your perception of self? Something to do with relationships perhaps? I'm curious what you all think. I'll start it. I reached goal in terms of weight a couple of months ago. But my idea of success is not hitting goal weight. It's being this size more or less the rest of my life. I've lost alot of weight before, but as usual, put it back on and some extra just for th…

So lately, I've been really into the self-love body/fat acceptance movement. The Fat Girl Dancing videos, The Militant Baker and her big FU to the guy from Abercrombie, the girls making the documentary Fattitude... Body positivity and fat acceptance is spreading at a faster pace than once before. I feel empowered when I read about these women changing beauty standards and as plus-size model Tess Munster says, #effyourbeautystandards. I want to be a fat girl that doesn't care that she is fat and wears mini skirts and crop tops and bikinis! I want to stop saying "when I get to this weight" then I'll wear this/do that/eat this/etc...and I've realized the only thing stopping …

But I'm having a problem with other friends and people that I'm not close to asking "how I did it". I feel like I'm lying to them when I say, I count my calories and workout. It's not a lie because that's what I do but I leave out the part of having the band. How do you guys deal with it?

I was banded on April 1st and when the glue came off I got red itchy welts around all of my incisions. I finally broke down today and went to surgeons office and they told me to take Benadryl at night and gave me a steroid pack. Oh the itching has been driving me nuts.

  32. Today I saw my doctor, and we added .5 cc's more to my band. I have a 14 cc band, and it's now holding 12 cc's. I lost 6 lbs over the past four weeks, but still do not have restriction. Please let this be the one! We have a 2 year plan in motion, and if this does not work, we will go another route, like the sleeve. So many of the people I met during my band surgery back in 2009 have had sleeve revisions. I'm praying this time around works! Good Luck and Strong Will Power everyone!

All I have tried is Water and I have been sick a dozen or so times since the fill about 4 hours ago. I have never had this happen before. Should I try and ride it out or go to the er and see if they can remove some Fluid?

  39. So, I got a promotion at work, and as a "surprise" my team decided to have a potluck in my honor. Which would normally be fine, except I'm on mushy foods and this thing is a taco theme. I am not telling my coworkers about my surgery. And I can't skip this. It's in 30 minutes. I've been eating soft foods with no problem and had some turkey and cheese for Breakfast this morning. Should I try a few bites of taco salad? Ground beef? I'm freaking out and don't want to get stuck. I haven't cheated yet aside from progressing from full liquids to mushies a day early. So now with the band in combo with low carbing and stress from final exams I have been forgetting to eat. I ate Sunday night dinner around 4pm and didn't eat again until today at noon. It didn't even cross my mind that hey you must eat! Now without the hunger pangs reminding me, I guess I just forget. Does anyone else have this issue? I know this is bad. I'm hoping it will get better once I am under less stress.

One year ago I was setting in this very chair with tears flowing because I was so miserably overweight that I could barely bend over to tie my shoes and even though I knew my surgery was a GO I sat here with that hopeless feeling wondering if this plastic little ring was really going to help me. I had a small unfill about two weeks ago, and I have 5.3 in my 10cc band. I was having reflux at night and everything was getting stuck. That is better now but For the past 4 days after I eat a small meal I have a pain on my lower left side where my actual band would be located. It last for about a hour and then goes away. It doesn't happen when I eat something very small like a protien bar, but if I eat a small salad it does. I'm worried that it could be a slip but I don't know what that feels like or am I just over eating ?? I know I need to talk to my Dr. I just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar experience.

So I read that people know when they're full if they burp, or if they have the hiccups or if their noses run...my question is, how do you discover what your mark is? I've not had my first fill yet, but am on solids & just am so afraid of overeating & going back into my old habits. That being said, a lot of times I'll have a 3 oz portion of food & still have a growling tummy. How do you find your mark?

Hey everyone. I'm new here and am looking for some advice, I guess. I was banded back in April of '09. The most weight I've lost with the thing was 15 pounds my first month. Because of bad placement (my band was placed to high and has caused me a veritable slew of side effects) I can't have more then a minuscule amount of Fluid in my band. Even with that very small amount, I was still getting stuck on a regular basis which was fine with me. Showed that I still had some sort of resistance. The past month and a half though, whatever resistance I had is gone. Nothing get's stuck anymore and I'm having the most horrid heartburn. I know that heartburn is normal with Banders, b…

I feel as if there's a tickle or some small piece of food behind my tonsils (or where my tonsils were once) Is this a soft stop? There is no food actually stuck there.
