I tried to search ucla and my surgeon Dr Chen at the UCLA COMET center and couldn't find anything. So, anyone have experience with either? I'm scheduled for July 31 and have met all of my requirements except final post op. During the required pre-op class I was told we all spend the night in Gonda, which is their observation or treatment ward. Was curious what that was like. Any experience welcome!! Anxious and excited.

I had sleeve surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Frayre from Ponce Bariatrics on December 5th. Like anyone, I was nervous about going over the border for this and my family was pretty freaked out about that, although they supported me in making this decision. I had the single port surgery through my belly button ($6,000), and for an additional $700, they took out my gal bladder as well through the same hole. My starting weight was 210 lbs, 34 BMI, and 5'6" tall. I had a friend who had gone through Dr. Ponce and had a great experience, so that is why I chose them. Dr. Frayre is another surgeon who works with Dr. Ponce and I was told that they always do surgeries together, ev…

Hi! This is the first topic I have started on this Site, although I have lurked here for awhile and gotten a lot of helpful suggestions. My surgery (sleeve) is in a week (June 12). I am excited, although a little bit nervous. Dr. Shillingford in Florida is doing it. I had considered going to Mexico but I'm happy with my choice, and as a self-pay he is very reasonable. My question is in regards to finding a new general practitioner. I am concerned that my current one doesn't really have much or any experience dealing with bariatric patients, and would like to find someone who has more knowledge. Are there resources for people like us to look for someone who …

As some of you may know I've shopped around before I decided to proceed with my current choice. I have been thinking lately though; first impression, staff, helpfulness, experience and statistics are of course a big part of how you choose who you choose but there's this unknown factor of how a surgery is actually physicaly performed, right? And I started thinking someone could be the nicest person but not be too great as a surgeon. What about scar tissue? What about long term effects of what gets done in there? Does anybody have similar thoughts? Or am I just overthinking this? Or maybe I just read too many horror stories...

I am a 47 yo man who had lap band placed in Mexico in 2014. My insurance did not cover such surgeries at that time. I had many complications over the years with my lap band and got very little support once I left Mexico. In november of 2016 i had finally had enough of dealing with the complications. I went to a local batriatric doctor who removed my lap band due to 95 % blockage due to slippage of the band and using a band that was too small. I explained prior to surgery that i did not want to gain the 100 plus pounds back that i gad lost. My doctor assured me that he would replace the band with gastric sleeve in a timely manner even if it meant finding funds from elsewhe…

Hello good day I hope that everyone is doing well. My name is Samantha, I'm 28 years old and I had my first consultation with the surgeon yesterday. His office set me up for my first visit with the nutritionist in 2 weeks. I was previously seeing a nutritionist but he said that I will have to start over with a nutritionist through his office. He also stated that I will have to see the nutritionist consecutively for 6 months before submitting for approval. I called my insurance provider just to make sure that the procedure is covered because in the benefits booklet that I received from them it states that it is not. The representative that I spoke to said that it is in fac…

Found out my insurance pays 80% of the surgery. I found Dr. Nestor de la Cruz-Munoz in Miami, FL and decided to have the surgery with him. From what I've read, he's excellent. I'm pretty excited. I've filled out some paperwork, and hope to be meeting with him and his team sometime this week!

I had my gastric bypass surgery done at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. My surgery went well overall but any complications and even general post-op care is not handled well. In my opinion there is no structure to taking care of patients after surgery. The trend seems to be get money for the surgery and then let patients fend for themselves. I see a lot of patients on this site who are able to reach out to their Surgeons office post-op for support. If you choose Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford don't expect for that to happen. It's very disturbing in my opinion. I wish I would have known this prior to my surgery I would have travelled further away for better car…

My procedure is going to be at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY and I wondered if any of you had your surgery there recently. I've never stayed more than a few hours at a hospital before, and I'm not sure what to expect. If you have answers to any of my questions below, I would be so grateful. 1. What should I bring? I typically don't like to carry around a lot of stuff, and I actually don't even own a purse. 2. How long was your stay for your sleeve? 1 night? 2? 3. Does the TV have a DVD player or cable? Or should I plan to bring a laptop or tablet? 4. Were you alone in your room or with another patient? 5. Any special tips relating to the hos…

I'm going in to meet with Dr. O'Malley late this week to schedule my surgery appointment, but I want to be able to sit down ahead of time and look at my schedule so I can offer some firm dates/times that would work for me. From your experience with the Highland Hospital Bariatric Surgery center, which days of the week were available to schedule your procedure, and what times? Any info is appreciated. Thank you!

I'm two months into the appointments process with Dr, Kim's office and I've been getting the run around for the last two weeks. My coordinator doesn't reply to my emails and voicemails, and can't be bothered to answer a quick question. It takes all of 30 seconds to send a quick email. Everything is all clear, I'm cash pay so there's no insurance red tape, and I still don't have a date scheduled. I guess they are too busy to bother to reply to my emails or calls. I'm not one to chase after someone to give them my money...I won't beg for your services. I'll move on if me, my health, and my money aren't important to you. So, all that being said, I read that Dr. Wade Barker…

I met Dr Baranov back in October 2014 at a pre surgery seminar. I knew immediately that I wanted him to be my doctor. Dr B will take the time needed to make sure you're on the right track. The office staff and nurses are some of the nicest I've met. My case was handled so quickly and with such care to me. I had my surgery on 3/2/2015 and expected to spend 2-3 days in the hospital. When I woke up the next morning I felt great! Later that afternoon I was released. The office stayed in contact with me for those first several days; a very nice personal touch. The office on West Ave is very nice, always clean and I get a sense of calm there.

Good Morning, Quick Question please...I'm new and if I'm repeating myself I do apologize. I'm in Houston and my Dr. has recently retired. I need to have my band looked over. Suddenly I am fighting acid reflux, yes I'm taking Zantac and chilling on the spices, acidic foods. However I have no clue why this was triggered. Also I need to get it X-rayed, its been awhile. I've called a few places and they act as if I'm an alien because that Dr. didn't band. Or they want to sell me a service. Rather sad, called True Results where I had it done but they seem not to be able to help me. Suggestions pleaseee ???

I went to a seminar last night that the doctor discouraged the Lap Band, and was pushing the sleeve. I have some medical conditions that require me to be on blood thinners, so I feel the best option for me is the Band. I am only beginning the process of finding doctors and deciding if this is good for me. The doctor said when I asked why he was discouraging the Lap Band he said it is in-effective. Reading the success on the forums I am not seeing that, and I know someone that is having success over 4 years now. Is there any one long term with the band that can tell me your thoughts. Is the band worth getting?? I can loose, I can't keep it off so I'm hoping the Band …

Anyone know of any surgeons that do lap band replacements as a revision procedure for a slipped band? I'm trying to find a surgeon to do a consult with to talk just replacing my band that slipped a couple years ago and I had unfilled (no complications just preventative unfilling). insurance coverage isn't an issue and neither is location; though i'd prefer a surgeon in the US or Canada.
