Weight loss surgery success stories. Share your milestones, before and after photos, and non-scale victories.

  1. Started by upwardfocusedgirl,

What is your favorite thing about your weight loss so far? Aside from the health benefits of course. My favorite thing is something I hadn't thought of until it happened: I can wrap a towel completely around myself! I can knot it up and it stays put and everything. It's actually pretty great!

Today it has been seven months since my surgery! It still doesn't seem real sometimes. People that haven't seen me in a while do not recognize me. This journey has not always been easy but it is so worth the effort. I hurt my back in June so exercising has not been happening. But I am doing better and now its time to get this body toned! I look forward to reaching my weight loss goal. As far as other aspects of my life, I am starting to see the "me" come out of my shell that I knew was hiding for all those years. My confidence level is definitely at an all time high. I have been single for two years after a very difficult divorce. I think I am ready to break down those wa…

So, I was on a first date yesterday. It was a lot of fun, we met for coffee, talked for a couple of hours, and then parted ways. When the evening wound down, I walked her to her motorcycle which was parked out in front of a skeezy dog park in downtown Seattle. Lots of drunks and sketchy folks hanging out. When we got to her bike, after a little more small talk, we had a nice good night kiss. A VERY nice good night kiss. In fact, it turned into a bit of a make out session in full public view (prompting, I **** you not, a round of applause from the bums drinking in the park!). As we were drawing apart, ready to go our separate ways, she had her hands on my waist, and she …

Today was awesome! I officially hit 50 pounds and am now under 200 weighing in at 198! I was banded two months ago and I had lost 18 pounds the month prior. So I posted this photo on Facebook and it was so encouraging to see how many people liked and commented on my photos!! People really are supportive! I'd love to see more before and after photos of people!

  7. I am 12 pounds away from my goal, it is amazing to me to even say that after being a size 28 just 16 months ago I am now in a size 10, but anyway here is my question...... Once you have reached your goal, how do you maintain your weight and not continue to lose? I mean really... for over a year now I have stayed away from white flour products, candy, cakes, carbs (except for whole wheat), taken smaller bites and smaller portions, you all know what I am talking about, that is how we lose our weight, but once you have lost the weight and reached your goal weight how do you just maintain? I mean I still have the band so I will not be able to eat like non lap band people…

  11. I'm a teacher and today was the first day of school. My goal was to be down 100 pounds total by the first day. WELLLLL, I have been stalled at 98 for over two weeks!!! I've been frustrated as hell! I know it's normal but that doesn't mean it's not disappointing. I know I haven't been working out as much as I should but I've been doing great with my meals. I'm kinda obsessed with MFP now when I was so resistant to the idea at first. Anywho, I got all jazzed up for the first day today... I wish I would have gotten a full body pic but I live alone and felt weird asking a coworker. However, I do have pictures from today and from the first day of school last year. THIS is w…

I was so excited to meet my surgeon today who comes from Vanderbilt - I was telling her about this forum and although supportive of the support, she warned me only to be careful about the advice on food etc. I was telling her about some posts that concern me at times with people eating various things at various stages that just doesn't sound right. Of course- listen to your own doctor but- the thing I took home was this: "the reality is- if you follow what I say you will be fine. The other reality is techincally- you can survive on the liquid phase post op forever if you 1) get your Protein 2) multi Vitamin and 3) Water. Those are the most important things and t…

I was sleeves 6/18. As of this morning I am 66 pounds down. I have not cheated. I haven't even craved a cup cake which was my all time fave before surgery. The only thing I crave now is cherry tomatoes. Which I strange to me since pre-surgery, I hated anything related to the tomato. Before surgery I had a medium moha iced coffee with skin milk from Dunkin donuts every morning. 2 or 3 on the weekends. Even with snow on the ground. (I hate eating or drinking anything hot). I haven't had once since before my pre-op diet. I tried everything I could. I went to Starbucks and got suar free syrup instead. No chocolate but I tried every other flavor tht was sugar free. It’s been six months since my surgery. I’ve had three fills totaling 6 cc’s and I’m still learning how to live with my band. This is my experience so far: I’ve lost 58 pounds without real difficulty, just making good food choices and putting the fork down when I’m satisfied. This once seemed laughably impossible, but it’s really pretty simple with the band. I’m off all medications and my sleep apnea is gone, as is the searing heartburn I used to get. I have no body aches and pains, no shortness of breath. I have the energy of a teenager. I’ve had to buy a new wardrobe because I’ve shrunk out of most of my clothing. (And I’ll have to do it again before it’s al…

This is my story! I have a bmi of 48 , take pills for high blood pressure and for my stomach . I had my consultation with Dr. Cobourn in Toronto exactly one year ago. At the time I was aprehensive about the operation and decided I really couldnt afford it. So I joined a gym in March, hired a personal trainer and am getting stronger but the pounds are coming off at a snails pace. Frustrating to say the least. Have lost only 20 lbs since November. My doctor referred me for gastric bypass surgery and in May I went for my orientation. What they had to say, and what has to be done to your body scared the heck out of me. So here I am 1 year later and have decided …

So my hubby and my daughters went into Kmart to buy something. After they went in I realized that I needed something. I went in and got the thing I needed. I was at the register paying for my stuff when my hubby and kiddos came up to the register across from me. I saw my hubby look over at me, at which time I thought he realized that it was me. He looked me up from the feet to the top.....and then came across my face and then shook his head. He didn't realize that it was me at all. When he did his face had this shocked and embarressed look on it. He laughed and said, "I just got caught checking out my own wife....haha!" I thought it was pretty cool that I am skinny (an…

Hi everyone! I can't believe one month has already passed. It has been quite a challenging month, but it has been well-worth every minute! I had my VSG on July 30th 2012. I have lost a grand total of 17.4 pounds on one month, and 24.2 pounds from my highest weight in August 2011... Amazingly, I have lost a total of 17 1/2 inches! (I still can't quite believe this)... I have removed more than half the clothing in my closet because it was just too big (again, that is a rare occurrence for me!)... Most importantly, I have been OFF my diabetic medications (I was on Metformin 1000 mg twice a day) and my BP medications (I was on Atacand 16 mg once a day) since the surg…

I went to Open House at my kids' high school tonight. The last several years I went, I had to squeeze myself into the desks with the attached chairs. It was always so uncomfortable and embarrasing. It really made me feel bad for the teenagers who are overweight and would have to sit in those all day long. Tonight, without thinking about it (since it only happens once a year) I comfortably slid into one of those desks! It did not dawn on me right away, but suddenly I realized that I fit!! Not only did I fit, but I had plenty of room to turn, or slouch or cross my legs! Woo hoo!

I am officially down 140 pounds and am .6 (that's 1/2 pound!!!) away from my first goal of 135 pounds (will decide from there whether to lose another 5 pounds or not). I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! I am so excited. January 1st of this year I weighed 330 pounds. I am now 215. So I have lost a total of 115 pounds. By the time I got to surgery on Feb. 15th I was down to 305. I was going to the gym daily…getting ready for my new lifestyle. Being Canadian, the process is very much different as there is no out of pocket expense and no insurance approval, but a 5 year waiting list. Getting the call to start the process is like winning the lottery. I had my choice of surgery so I picked the lap band because I did not want to cut any part…

Yippie - I get to report that I'm officially a member of the Century Club! Interestingly, I was out of town all last week dropping my daughter off at college and getting her settled in to her new apartment. I ate LOTS of carbs. Lots of sandwiches at lunch time (argh-bread) and I even had a mini bagel for Breakfast a couple of times. Dare I admit it...and a glass of wine with dinner (very stressful week). It is so challenging to be away from home and find good protein/low carb options (Applebee's has a great under 550 calorie section of their menu, though). Have been in a major stall, only 3 lbs in the last month which has me feeling down. I know going from size 22 to 14 in 7 months and 72 lbs gone is a huge accomplishment but still the stall sucks. I cleaned out a drawer full of jeans today and thought for fun I would put on those 22s just to see. I couldn't believe how baggy they were! Really helped remind me of how well I am doing and made me feel good. I am going to hang on to those jeans and put them on if I start feeling down about a stall again. Just wanted to share.

  46. Today I'm officially one year and 5 days post op. I've so far lost 98lbs. I'm so close to that 100lb lost it's crazy. The scale has slowed down alot but my body is changing soooo much. I'm doing about 1 hour of cardio a day and 30-45 minutes of strength training 3 to 4 times a week. I hadn't noticed how much my body had changed until I saw my surgeon today and he asked about my measurements. In the last 6 weeks my bust size went from a 38 to a 36 (I started at a 48I), and I went from a 14/16 to a 10/12. My shirt size was a 3X and now I'm in a large which is getting pretty loose.
