I signed up for this forum two and a half years ago when I first began considering lap band surgery. Since I never became part of the online community I thought it might be appropriate to officially introduce myself. My name is Shoshanna and I received my band in March of 2010. My weight loss was slower than that of many people and I hit my share of plateaus along the way, but that is okay. My highest weight was 240; I now weigh 160 with a final goal weight of 148. Currently I am resting on another plateau and thought perhaps some interaction with other banders will help me over what I hope is the final hump. If I can lend an ear or benefit of experience to others alon…

I am 37 years old and I finally decided that I'm gonna do this! Started this journey in the fall with Kaiser South San Francisco. I've jumped through all the hoops except loosing the 18 pounds to be down to 235 THEN Dr. Le will hopefully give me the green light and a surgery date. I have my next appointment with him on May 1st. Anyone here have an existing DVT going into surgery? If so, how was your Pre/post surgery different ?

  14. Doing really well - down 58 pounds (260 to 202), feel great, diabetes is gone, HBP is gone, don't miss the pills at all. On long vacation right now and in a garden spot (kauai) it is always so easy to overeat and let your guard down. But I am holding my weight and as long as I don't gain, I am ok with delay in meeting my goal. If I eat anything - even a tiny snack within 3 hours of bedtime, I am getting acid reflux. Taking Omeprazole near bed time. We are in a rental condo but did manage to get a couple 2x4 scaps and put one under each bed post. Both helped. But the key is apparently no eating in the evening. I take a med for phantom pain (I am an amputee from a…

I went to an information session two weeks ago, filled out an application and next week will have my first Pre-op doctors appointment, sleep study, and nutrition advising. I am self pay so I knew its go a little bit more quickly but I didn't expect it all to happen so quickly. I'm excited but I'm a little bit dizzy from the whirlwind I'm currently 5'5 and weigh approx 320 pounds. I'm so excited and feel so blessed to have this oppurtunity. So my surgery date was rescheduled from April 9 to April 16th. That's cool its not a denial so I'm happy. At any rate I have gained approx 3 lbs since my last surgeon appt and since my insurance approved me. I'm sure its due to my menstrual and I'm positive I will loose it during my two week liquid diet that I start Monday. My question is if I gain weight prior to surgery can my insurance company or surgeon take my approval back?

  23. Started by Bubbaloo10,

I received notice for BCBS Anthem today that my surgery was approved on the 26th, so now I am waiting a call from my surgeons office to schedule the surgery. For all who might want to know the timeline, I'll include these facts: I first saw the surgeon for the consult on February 1. I spent until the 16th of March going through all the tests and PCP approvals to get to the submittal stage. The surgeon's office submitted the paperwork to BCBS Anthem on March 19, so it took just about a week to get the approval. Getting anxious now, and can't wait!! I've been mostly lurking on this site until now. Now I will begin posting progress reports as they come.

I haven't had major surgery before so am wondering if I'm wimpy or if the weirdness is what everyone experiences? Weirdness as in you don't feel anything like yourself, you are just existing from hour-to-hour. I have horrible headaches which aren't helping me at all. Could some of you recently transformed people tell me how awesome I will feel and when I should start to expect to feel that way? Just need a boost right now. Oh, also had the gallbladder out same day so maybe that is contributing to my feeling like crappola??? IDK Thanks in ad…

Hello...I'm a new member to Lap Band Talk Forums. Thought I'd share a summary of my experiences so far. My surgery was on March 8th with Dr. Fisher in Colorado Springs. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon and team - very professional and caring all around. I chose them because of their Center of Excellence designation and extensive experience. My weight at the start of the pre-op diet was 306. I lost 12 pounds on the 10-day diet, and another 11 pounds the week after surgery. The last two weeks I've lost only two pounds total. My next appointment is in early April and perhaps I'll have my first adjustment then. I was quite anxious having never had surger…

I am actually starting this journey with my wife as she is set to have a date set for her surgery, which should happen in the next month or two. We figured that if we could have our surgeries about two weeks apart, then I would be able to help and take care of her while she recovers and I would have her there when I am in need as she would almost be completely healed. I have been through the seminar, have an appointment set for the visit with the …

The first four weeeks were the hardest. I am now eating solids, which is a whole new experience. I did find that I could still eat pretty much anything but just in small bites, and I get alot of gurgling in my stomach after meals. Drinking water on a regular basis is a challenge aside from drinking juice. I don't know why but water just doesn't seem to want to go down that easy for me. Thats going to take some getting used to. Anyway, I hear alot of post op's saying that they are not feeling 100% at the beg…

Ok, i have learned i am a goal person. I have been floundering since reaching goal. So i am moving on to physique goals. I am between 158-163 on most days. I want to add 15lbs of pure muscle. I know many say u cant really donthat with the sleeve. But i dont agree! I have soent the past two months getting my protien up to 125-135grm a day. I know i need to increase it to about 175-200 to really pack on muscle fast, however, I believe i can take a slower approach and get there. I thought i would begin keep track here so if others want to join me, or have advice/questions then maybe this phase of the journey can be helpful to others as well. :-) GodSpeed

I had a couple complications; gastric outlet restriction and gastritis I was hospitalized for those as well as twice for IV fluids due to dehydration. After having my pouch dialated I have been doing great. I can get all my fluid in and I'm doing ok on soft foods. I do have trouble getting my protein in however. I'm still learning to work with this grouchy pouch of mine but everyday is better. Good luck to you all!!

Feeling good looking better I told my Dr I feel like I'm losing sooo slow but he said for my height and weight each pound is about 1% of my excess weight. That made me feel alittle better. Plus I know that most likely unless I eat really BAD that those pounds will never ever come back! 40 til goal Now and I got my free 6 mo membership to the gym that came with my surgery sooo I will be taking advantage of that starting next week ! yayyyy I will be looking much more forward to summer this year!
