Is there anyone out there that has not been successful? I started out good, lost 44#,s. Got distracted with my husbands health problems and now I almost weigh as much as when I first started. Dr. says it's all my fault.

Well today marks week 7! Total loss since surgery is 14lbs. yes it's a loss but not one that anyone says they've noticed. I've gotten a few comments that my face looks thinner but nobody has noticed and my clothes aren't lose just a little more comfy. I'm not sad or anything cause it'll be a slow process for me because I know it's still a process in the right direction. I really expected a lot more by now, with eating well and so little but I'm also not working out at the gym yet (just at home with walking dogs and treadmill and some wii fitness), so I hope that today now that my dr gave me the ok to workout, will start some real movement in my weight loss since …

I have heard that your weight loss will slow after a year for the sleeve. I am hoping to reach goal but at the rate I am going I don't think I will lose all 150 pounds by a year. I have lost 54 pounds but am worried I won't lose all the weight. Give me good news.

Hi all! I went in for my surgery on Monday April 9th. I came home today. I feel fantastic!! Happy to report I've not one issue. No nausea, been drinking a good amount of water and broth. The incisions (5) are very sore. But I can handle that. Lots of gurgling going on in there. But so far so good!!! Best of luck to my fellow April sleevers!!!

All I can do is cry with frustration. I'm 6 weeks post op and down 30lbs. My starting weight was 322. But for the last 3 weeks I haven't lost so much as a pound! I walk 2 miles almost everyday, I stay within the 600-800 calorie range. Why is this so hard? I have been able to eat solid food since week 3, I never experience dumping syndrome. May I have already stretched out my stomach? I feel like such a failure. For being 292 right now which is really heavy I should be dropping weight fast for only being 6 weeks post op! What am I doing wrong or what should I do? I'm able to eat 1 cup full of food before I feel full and that's way to much! So I had to of stretched my stoma…

Hello everyone: Just want to share that today is my 6day of pre-op liquid diet and I just had an emotional/devil moment. I just started crying and couldn't stop for a while, I'm not hungry at all b/c the shakes fill me up good but seeing my family eating food and knowing that the time is getting close I guess made me broke down. I'm not gonna lie I'm missing eating real food, I'm scare I might cheat. I need advice, what else can I consume other than my Protein shake, sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles or broth? What can happen if I cheat and eat regular food? Thanks in advantage!

HI, I am new to this. I am going for my lapband seminar next week. I am very excited. I have been over weight for about 12 years. I have been to Jenny Craig, gyms, I have tired medical weight loss but I always seem to "fall off the wagon".. I am an emotional eater and when I get bored. I love sweets and salty snacks. I am also horrible with eating out. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I am ready to make the permanent life changes before I get sick and die. I have multiple health problems and have been recently diagnosed with Asthma now. I am sick of taking a hand full of pills every morning. I have no energy to do anything,I always feel bad, I am always in pain and o…

I recieved a call from my surgeons office today and they told me I was APPROVED. I have Aetna insurance and followed the six month bulletin. I dont have my sugery date yet, but I should have it by Monday. I am just too happy, espically because it was a lot of drama about me not doing a pysch eval. My docotor who I did the requirements with said I didnt need it but when I went to talk to the coordinator at Bluepoint, she said I did. Well it seems my docotor was right...for the 3 month track you do, but for the 6 month you dont! Right now..I am just on cloud 9!!!!

Well, here we go. Or here I go. I just joined the forum, although I've been reading various posts for a while now. I just turned 49 years old, weigh 232 and am between 5'7" and 5'8", and I think I'm finally ready to get rid of this weight I've been carrying around for the last 25 years. Initially I went to the surgeon to investigate the lapband. I didn't tell anyone I was going -- not even my husband -- because I was scare? embarrased? I really liked the surgeon, Dr. Ganta in Austin. I've read a few reviews that his staff is somewhat disorganized, but that is really secondary to me. My main concern is getting a doctor who knows what he's doing. Dr. Ganta seems …

Good Morning from South Mississippi! I'm going this evening for the educational session. I'm super excited! I've decided this is what I'm going to do - regardless if I have the support of BCBS AL! I'm 40yrs old, I've been overweight all of my life. I've lost weight a hundred times over only to gain it back. I'm 5'2", my weight this morning is 206lbs and I'm currently in a size 16 and miserable!!! I'm going to see Dr. Avara and hopefully join the rest of you on a journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle! Reading your stories has inspired me! Your prayers would be much appreciated!

I feel amazing today! I am 3 weeks postop today and am down 35 lbs. from my highest weight (287), 21 since surgery day (273). I had a stall of sorts for almost a week but the scale is moving again now (252). My incisions are completely healed and really feel like I never had surgery, except for the lack of hunger and the tiny amounts I can eat I am still on purees for another week and am doing great - everything has really gone down quite well, I just get full really fast. I am getting in liquids just fine and still struggling to get enough calories and Protein, but working on it every day. I've been hitting the gym since last week and doing just cardio for now - el…

My name is Sarah and I was banded on 3/27/12. I am currently 12 days post op. I'm 27, 5'9" and weighed 263 at the start of this process. I weighed 236 at my last weigh in. I'm not feeling any restriction at all at this point. I knew it would be hard but I want to eat just like I always have. I'm eating fairly normal foods and have not had any stuck or pbing episodes. I can't wait for my first fill so that it won't be all on me… Right now I'm getting by on will power but it's difficult. I'm supposed to be in the liquid stage still but I was starving all the time. I've progressed to mushy and some normal food. I started a blog as well.. Please take a look and offer comme…

I was wondering how you all did with Easter this year. I was sleeved in January (deliberately held off until after the holidays), and this was my first true "test" of the sleeve. Because these types of situations were such a concern to me prior to surgery, I thought I'd share my experience for the benefit of those who are struggling one way or another. I'm the "mom," and have always loved to entertain. I don't do things on a small level. People come to my house empty-handed and leave with food, and we really like to have a good time. I love to plan menus, usually based on things I love to eat but don't indulge in very often! Easter is one of my smaller food holida…

I've been lurking on this site for about two months now and decided to post an intro. I had been contemplating WLS for a while when I ran across Dr Alvarez's Youtube videos. At the time I wasn't sure which path I was going to take but after doing some pretty extensive research I decided to contact Dr Alvarez. I have to say he and his staff have been top notch up to this point. I'm getting my sleeve on April 27th and honestly can't wait. If anyone else is heading down for Dr A around that time I'd like to hear from you. Thanks for listening and good luck to you all!!

Hello, my name is Julie. I am a wife and the proud mother of 3 wonderful children. I am also a Lucky patient of Dr. Thomas Byrne at MUSC’s Bariatric Surgery Program. My journey truly began in 2010; I weighed in at 226 pounds. I had spoken with my general physician on several occasions about my weight and the attempts that I had made (weight watchers, Jenny Craig, etc). My doctor suggested that I call MUSC’s bariatric surgery program for a consultation. I went home that day and researched weight loss surgery. I called that same afternoon for a consult appointment. My first sign that I was doing the right thing should have been the caring voice of Lisa Jackson. She helped g…

Hi! Just trying to get acquainted with this site! I was banded in Sudbury, Ontario in May 2011. My clinic is Thinlife surgical Weight loss in Sudbury, ON and my surgeon was Dr. Ravinder Singh. I am very happy with my decision to have gastric banding! I started out at a weight of 289.4 - my BMI was 43.94. I was morbidly obese. I still cringe when I think about it. I am currently down to 227 and a BMI of 34.51. A total of 62.4 pounds lost. I am feeling better than ever. I was on 2 blood pressure pills a day plus a Water pill and got off all of them in November!! I am more active, I sleep better and am truly enjoying my life so much more! The Thinlife…

Hi guys. I had my VSG done 4/4. I had a rough couple of days. No problems with the sx, I just had some issues and extreme nausea coming off anesthesia. I stayed in the hospital a couple of days due to nausea and for hydration purposes. Unfortunately, I had to go back and get a couple of liters of normal saline yesterday. I have been living off SF popsicles, everything else my sleeve does not like.Praying that this passes soon. Thanks for all the support!

Hi. I have been overweight significantly for about 15 years, but have always had too much weight since early childhood. I am considering the gastric sleeve as my surgery. Or the lap band. I am not sure which one yet. I have a seminar in two weeks to attend. I went to it once before but it was over a year ago. I am scared but I am more scared of the weight I keep gaining. I seek friends to discuss the pros and cons of the sleeve and or the band. I have a BMI of aboiut 38, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and also prediabetic. Do they always remove the gall bladder?

Hello everyone, This is my beginning. I am 34 years old, and sick and tired of dealing with my PCOS. As I get older, it gets worse. PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, though I think that's a crummy name for it, because its so much more than the name implies. If you don't know what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycystic_ovary_syndrome. Its frustrating and adds huge challenges to the fight for staying healthy. This is why, I've decided to pursue Gastric Sleeve Surgery. I'm at the beginning of my journey. I go to my orientation seminar on Feb. 9th and thus it starts. It took me a year, and the last few months of pretty obsessively researching and digging …

I am a few months into my journey and 16 days away from my Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass surgery. I am currently a week into my all liquid optifast diet and that so far has been the hardest part for me to this point, not being able to eat but still having to me the wife/mother who cooks meals, makes lunches etc. I am both nervous and excited to get my surgery done so I can start my newer healthier lifestyle and hopefully rid myself of my diabetes and high blood pressure. I hope to meet a few people who have been through what I am going through, so I can have a better idea of what the future holds after gastric bypass surgery from someone who has been.

I was sleeved on March 22. To date, I have gone from 244 down to 217. Most people would be thrilled with that but I'm not. The day that I was sleeved, I weighed 228. I was losing more without the sleeve. I have experienced the most painful constipation known to man! I don't know why I'm not losing. Can anyone help me figure out why?

Hello all! I was just sleeved on Monday, April 25th at Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center. I didn't really have time to freak out about everything because I went from approved by my insurance to scheduled in less than 10 days. I don't have any buyer's remorse at this point. Yesterday when I had the dry leaves and nausea beyond belief, I was scared. But the fantastic nursing staff kept me sane by telling me that nausea is actually worse in sleeve patients than other bariatric surgeries. I was 291 at my pre-op last week and, if the scale was right, 278 on the day of surgery. I've been walking, sipping lots of fluids, and burping beyond belief! I want to t…

Hi, I'm new here. I've been banded since 2007. I lost about 86 lbs and got pregnant. Gained some back. After I got back on track I started having bad heart burn issues, so my doc took everything out of my band. I'm embarrassed to say, I've gained it ALL back. I've been beating myself up so much about it that I've talked myself out of going to get a fill because I'm too embarrassed to have my doc see me like this. I'm feeling hopeless, just like I did before I got my lap band. I hope someone out there has been through this and can help get me out of this rut. Thanks so much.

Hello I'm new here. Thought I should introduce my self. I live in the quad city area in IL. I'm 47 now but I will be 48 by the time I have my surgery, Which is May 2, 2012. I'm having the lap band done. I'm starting to get nervous now that I have a date and time for the surgery. I'm sure I will be fine. I think every one gets a little scared when it comes to surgery. So I'm hoping to lose 105lbs. And I'm hoping to do so in a years time. So is that realistic? I would love to find a buddy or maybe even a few buddies, I could be a email buddy, cell phone buddy and a local buddy. So if any one is looking for a buddy , here I am! Good Afternoon, everyone. My name is Melissa and I have a Lap-Band. LOL I'm going to start by saying that I am probably the least likely person here to be talking about my surgery. Honestly, there are only a select few people in my life that even know I have a band. However, I have had some experiences recently that have led me to seek answers, and my first Google search led me here. I had my Lap Band Surgery on December 1, 2009 in Bellevue, WA. My insurance company insisted on an overnight stay in a hospital, otherwise I would have had my surgery at NorthWest Weight Loss Surgery (NWWLS) in Everett, WA. My surgeon was Dr. Alana Chock and she was wonderful. As a…

Have any taller/younger people have this surgery? I had my initial consultation and am currently still waiting for approval and was wondering if anyone who was my height or closer (I'm 6'1 and weigh 330 lbs) and or close to my age have had the surgery? I was also wondering if anyone has had kids or thinking about having kids after the surgery? My doc and research says to wait at least a year, but I'd prefer to hear from actual people.
