I am a few months into my journey and 16 days away from my Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass surgery. I am currently a week into my all liquid optifast diet and that so far has been the hardest part for me to this point, not being able to eat but still having to me the wife/mother who cooks meals, makes lunches etc. I am both nervous and excited to get my surgery done so I can start my newer healthier lifestyle and hopefully rid myself of my diabetes and high blood pressure. I hope to meet a few people who have been through what I am going through, so I can have a better idea of what the future holds after gastric bypass surgery from someone who has been.

Hi Melissa I have my surgery on April 23rd. I start my pre op diet tomorrow.

Hey Melissa, Welcome!!! I am 3 months post op. I finally after a bit of ups and downs, I'm kinda in a comfy zone. Although I'm thinking I may be losing hair now. But I guess that's part of it. Im 19 days post op as well as a single mom. So i had to continue to prepare the meals and thungs but since ive started eating soft foods im slowly but surely adjusting tge entire household to a healthier way of eating. Of course they still get their sncks and things but now there are alot of sugar free and fat free things going on in my household and they haven't even noticed. Most things taste the same and Im not near as hungry so cooking doesnt bother me. Not to mention that after 1 or 2 bites of anything and Im STUFFED! (How wonderful). So at first it was strange while I was in the liquid phase because I COULDN'T have it but once I could have it, it wasnt that big of a deal...because I really wasnt hungry at all . Ive also discoverd that Water takes away mental hunger. A couple of sips of water and my stomach feels full which lets me know that Im not actually hungry at all This surgery ws the best thing that ever happened to me. I now see hope where before I saw none. Exercising everyday has helped my depression so that now when I cry they tears of joy and hope. And for some reason I cry often. The surgeon said its not un common to be emotional when burning high levels of fat.

I've been very emotional lately and when I started all my Pre-Op appointments and planned the surgery it seemed like the perfect timing to do so I had just turned 30 and my health was horrible my diabetes was unmanagable, my high blood pressure was out of control and my depression was at an all time low and this surgery gave me hope for a healtier better future but the past couple months have been super rough and my stress level is off the charts, having to deal with an unsupportive husband, an out of control teen son and a 7yr old son with type 1 diabetes,sometimes makes me question myself " am I making the right choice, is this the right time?" are these feelings normal or is feeling guilty something that everyone goes through on some level?

Looks like its up to u to make this change. It will be hard at first because u do not have the support of Ur hubby, but in the long run it will help you and your kids live a longer healthier life! I'm a single mom of two young kids and i cook meals for them daily... Tasty ones! Lol and i get tempted too. I give in some times but i always remember that when it gets hard the outcome will pay off in the long run. I'm 8 weeks post op and i think this has been my hardest week so far, because I get hungery now, but -54 lbs keeps me motivated! Lol so try and relax keep Ur mind away from food, and you will do great with you surgery. Best wishes!
