I had my 1st dr. appointment on the 11th and I have my next appointment wit the nutritionist and psychiatrist on the 22nd of may then one more dietitian appointment in june. So I'll be getting banded in july I'm excited, nervous, worried, happy, and scared all at the same time.

Hi all, I am new to this site but not new to this process. I first started researching weight loss surgery a couple of years ago and then found myself pregnant with my third child. I put the idea out of my head completely. While breastfeeding that child I gave my all to weight watchers and had the first somewhat significant weight-loss of my life. I went from 355 at the end of my pregnancy to 279. It felt great to have people finally tell me I looked good. I couldn't wait to go places and have people react. Then the holidays hit and I slowly gave up and wound up back to a non-pregnant high of 341. So in the fall after seeing yet another coworker go through surgery and st…

Hey everyone! I'm just beginning the process of my VSG surgery. I'm really trying to find out everything there is about this new lifestyle. I'm so over the yo-yo dieting. I have young children and want to be able to keep up and play with them instead of sitting on the park bench watching them. I'm looking for advice(good and bad). No sugar coating!! My biggest fear is the mental part of not eating while my family does. I have a food addiction and I'm hoping this will help me. Thanks for your help.

  11. Hello! I got banded on March 14, 2012, after a few weeks of waiting for insurance approval. I can't believe it's already happened, I was so ready for a change in my life. I have three children who just can't wait to see me run and jump on the trampoline. I received my first fill on April 9th, 2012 and I now have 5.2 cc's total. My appetite still seems to be a bit large, should I be worried?

Hi! Guess I'm going to be a newbie! I've met with the insurance girl, had my doctor write a letter (based on a model from my friend who had the surgery in Nov. 2010 ) , gave the insurance girl my proof of over a year of dieting- unsuccessfully! and met with the couselor. I have a meeting/consult with the doctor on April 26th .... When am I suppose to meet with the nutritionist? before surgery???? How long is the recuperation from the surgery???? I've read so much about what you can and cannot eat on lap band and sleeve, that now I have my info confused. I'm 99.9 % sure I'll go with the band instead of the sleeve--- I don't like the idea of having parts of me cut…

I would of never dreamed in a lifetime that I would ever have a regular bath towel wrap around me again. I also put on an old teeshirt to paint in, after putting it on I realized it was one of my husband's and it was actually big on me, something I would never of fit in before presleeve and I would of been embarrassed to even try. One more, the best one to me is I walked , at a minimum of 21 miles this week, jogged some of it also. It was at least 3 miles a day. There was a time when the furthest I walked (other than at work) was from the couch to the frig. ME, YEAH ME. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT.... and I actually enjoyed it!!! 16. I was sleeved on march 27, 2012 My preop weight was 217, my weight on the day of surgery/ after preop diet was 204. After surgery I was back up to 211 (gas, fluids, bloating) as of tomorrow I'll be 3 weeks post op and my current weight is 199. Am I not losing or could it me that expectations are unrealistic. My doctor has me on oxygen 24/7! I lost too much blood after surgery, my IV came loose I I almost bled to death. 18. I am 1 year and 4 months from my surgery. I have lost 177 lbs. I am hoping to lose 200 lbs. total. At my heaviest I weighed 385. At surgery I weighed 365. I am now 188. The VSG was the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. It has done so much for me than just lose weight. I have gained back hope, self esteem and a since of pride within myself. I love being able to ride a bike with my kids, going swimming, walking my dog, tying my shoe! All the things that I wasn't able to do without a struggle or being out of breath. Don't get me wrong- at times I questioned "why did I do this"- but now I am so stinkin' happy I did! One thing I try to tell myself is that this …

I never would have believed I could ever be this healthy or happy. My weight has been quite stable for the past 10 months or so. This surgery was a wonderful tool on the road to healthy living. I spent most of the first 18 months in the gym working out 3 days a week with a trainer. I believe that was a big key in getting my body back in shape. At age 55 I think it took the gym to get my body toned. I have not had any additional surgery but am considering having the skin under my arms tightened. No matter how mu…

  25. I am five days post-op. I am feeling good. I walked 2.5 miles this morning, I had gas in my shoulder yesterday and thought I was going to pass out. Finally, my oldest sister, who is two years post op told me to drink a hot soda to relieve the gas. Lord knows I didn't want to but I think it save my life definietely from the pain. I am moving around great but has a lot of gas. Really believe it's from the pre-op diet of broth which can be greasy. My initial weight was 212 pounds; heaviest weight: 222; I lost 12 pounds during the two weeks pre-op diet phase. Day of surgery I weighed in at 200 pounds. Today, I am at 199.0. Not much difference.

I love chicken, diet soda, nuts, asparagus - all the things I'll be asked to give up, at least in the beginning - I guess, I hope! It's not like those things are Desserts, fried or horribly fattening! I just started my lap band research this weekend - can't even make a consultation appointment because nothing is open over the weekend. Is it safe to say that I can eat whatever my body can tolerate (eventually)? Yes, I want to lose weight, but I also might want to splurge now and then - like holidays, my birthday, etc. I would like a balance! Comments, please?

I only take the two stomach meds and a Vitamin now. 6) I have not had a Fibromyalgia flareup since the surgery. NSV We have a Jacuzzi tub in our master bathroom. I regularly soak in it becaus…

Hi all, I was banded yesterday by Dr. Les Miles in Birmingham, AL. He also repaired a large hiatal hernia I had no idea about. So far it has been a breeze. I am pretty sore at the port site, but other than that, I'm doing great. No nausea and doing well with liquids. I was really afraid and worried before surgery. I am a nurse and know too much I guess- LOL. if everything continues as well as it is now, I worried for nothing. I'm planning on returning to work on Monday so hopefully most of the soreness will be gone by then.

I'm very excited b/c everything is going so well, haven't vomit at all, no nauseas I meant I think I been lucky or my body loves this surgery. I tried cottage cheese for the 1st time in my life and geezzz I never knew it taste that good lol. I hope to hear from all of you, and I hope everyone is doing great as well! Regards, Yodelania

I did not have any issues in the hospital but as told by my nurses that I was the only wls patient that did have nausa problems. The pain was not so bad but I did take pain meds for 1 week. I did get dehydrated and was hospitalized again on 3/17-3/19. I couldn't hold anything down and was throwing up stomach acid for hours. I had an upper GI to mke sure everything was ok. So let me sress that fluids are MOST IMPORTANT when you get home. I took PPIs for a few weeks to settle my stomach acid and now evrything is normal. My starting weight was 370lbs. I'm so excited to finally have a confirmed surgery date! I was initally suppose to have my surgery on February 24, 2012 however during my pre-op blood work they discovered I have diabetes! I was 11 days into my pre-op diet and they postponed my surgery. Needless to say I was disappointed and upset as I was mentally ready to get it done. Thankfully my diabetes is now under control and my surgery has been confirmed for April 27th! I started my pre-op diet on Friday which is going well so far. Looking forward to sharing my journey with all of you and hearing about your experiences along the way. Here's to making positive changes!

Gas was the most difficult post op aspect, it just wouldn't let up, bad ache of the back and neck, today its mercifully gone. Feel like I can walk into town etc but told to take it easy because one can set everything back by overdoing things. Clexane injection has been difficult, I found I just couln't give it to myself and the wife was less than keen, 6 more days of those...oh what fun. Had my VSG surgery on 3/22 at Scripps Green hospital in La Jolla. I was up and walking (slowly) within 3 hours of getting to my room. Of course the initial pain was there, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I improved. I was not allowed to drink anything until the noon the next day and after that I struggled to get 3 oz of chicken broth down. Once they removed the catheter (fun) I was able to get out of bed and walk without the nurse. I was released to go home later in the evening, 36 hours after my surgery began. All in all, it was much easier than I anticipated. I struggled a bit with getting the whole sipping thing down, but like the surgery, each da…
