  1. Started by Ready for the new Lay-Lay,

I had my 4 hour consultation with my doc and his assistant. I was given a binder (I call it my sleeve bible). It explains the surgery, pre op and post op diet. Foods to avoid, a list of food to get for pre op and post op. Suggestions of protein shakes, vitamins, etc. It is very very helpful. I feel so much better now, that binder will be my saving grace along with this site. So at the end of the 4 hours, I was told that I need to loose a minimum of 10 pounds or he will cancel the surgery. I think I will just start on my post op diet now, to get my mind and body ready. I need to get in a routine now. I am positive about this weight loss, my surgery will not be cancelled …

Exactly one month ago today I was sleeved....I feel great! I am 21 lbs down as of this morning....I was hoping for more but have had a few stalls along the way My first stall was about 2 weeks after surgery but that was due to my period I think....I am trying not to step on a scale everyday, but find this to be more difficult than I thought. I guess its due to the excitement of seeing the scale actually move after years of it not budging. Just wanted to share my anniversay and small but huge to me success! Wishing everyone out there luck in their journey!!!!!! Have a wonderful day and God bless!

I had my sleeve done 3/26 but since then I have been dealing with withdrawals. I have never had an anger problem but find myself getting mad over the fact I can't eat what everybody else eat. I'm glad I had this procedure done but watching people eat fried foods and sweets works my nerves. Have anyone else experienced this?

My name is Bonnie and I am having my surgery June 5 2012. I am so excited and can not wait. I have three kids I have been raising, first is John he will be 20 in Sept. He is a Marine, Alisa is 18 she is in 11th grade I have helped my cousin raise them since they were little. Last but not least is my Zack, he will be 11 in Aug. I have had sole custody of him since he was 4. One day I truly hope to carry and give birth to a baby. I hope this is my first step towards making my family bigger before I get too old.

  5. My name is Gayla and I have had the Lap Band since 2009. I have had some weight loss, but also a revision surgery, and severe gastritis and reflux. I have not been able to get a good adjustment in over a year and it is costing me a fortune as well as many gained pounds. It is extremely frustrating how difficult it is to find a doctor to perform adjustments, one little tidbit they forget to tell you when you are in the process of getting the surgery.

  11. Started by Paola,

After months of model behavior I fell off the wagon for a few weeks. I ate too many carbs, I stopped tracking my food, I even stopped coming by the forum. This has happened before, for some reason there is a point were I grow tired of the same foods, or I don't think I am losing weight fast enough, and I end up self sabotaging myself. I have continued to lose weight, but much slower than before, I think that is because no matter what I ate I never stopped doing 1 hr exercise almost everyday. My eating carbs reduced the amount of Protein I ate and that in turn means that every time I run my fingers through my hair some always comes out. So now I know that my actions have c…

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just had my lap band surgery revised to roux-en-y gastric bypass on April 17th. Initially I lost 86 lbs with my lap band but the Lapband never worked for me, for the 3 years I had it all I did was vomit; which was what lead me to my journey to undergo the bypass. I had my surgery at NYU hospital; the wonderful Dr. Marina Kurian performed the surgery. All seems to be going well. Getting my fluids down, and in a minimal amount of pain. I do find sitting upright for any amount of time is a bit uncomfortable for me. And I feel very bloated with a lot of gas pain. How long did you guys experience this bloat/pain? When did you start feeling more lik…

Lots of swelling in my abdomen but incision sites feel fine. I am still taking pain meds every three hours. I am looking forward to hearing others stories as the days go on. Take care!

  26. After years of continuosly putting on weight I have decided that the sleeve is the best option for me. It is a scary process. I have finished all my things for insurance. Met all their requirements and I am now waiting. While I am so excited about this change in my life I know that it doesn't come without trials. I found this board and I am very thankful as I know I will need all the support I can get. Especially from people who have been there and done it. I hope to find fellow supporters here and hope that I too can be a support for someone.

I'm booked in for 13th of June, pending super approval (aussie system, borrow from retirement fund). Just have a few quick questions Does anyone have any regrets about doing it? Is there a different way you would have done it? Im 26, 100kg, BMI of 34 - the minimum BMI here is 35 with dodgy blood pressure, cholestorol etc - so im scraping in with no major health problems - but, I still managed to get the OK from the doc after mentioning that it was riduculous to send me home to put on weight to prove a point (yayyyy!) I have had weight problems on and off for most of my life. Between my genes, lots of surgeries over the years, depression/Bipolar and the meds for them, I can't seem to lose more than a few pounds. I'm tired of being tired, having trouble with my joints, trying to find clothes, hating the way I look, etc. I'm seeing my doc on 5/2 and am going to ask her to refer me to a local gastric surgeon. We've talked about it before, so I'm pretty sure she'll do it. I hope to lose about 100 lbs. and to ge…

  29. I am 11 months out from surgery and the food that I eat feels like it is getting stuck. I have to burp a lot while I am eating and have to vomit at least once a day. In the morning when I wake up it is very hard to just drink water and my protein shake. I have a 14cc band and noticed these complications getting worse after I had a fill that brought me to about 7.5cc. I also have been drinking alcohol lately after not doing so for 8 months and I have also been drinking diet soda. Could my band have slipped or am I getting acid reflux because of the alcohol and carbonated beverages. Prior to getting my latest fill, I could eat anything and a lot of it and now I can't. …

I have been toying with the idea of having surgery for two years now. My brother had it 2 years ago and is doing great. He has lost 109 lbs. So that also gave me a positive outlook. I'm 48, a stay at home grandma ( I babysit my grandkids) and love ever minute of it. It also showed me I need to be in better health so I can be around to watch these precious little ones grow up. I have been a type 2 diabetic for over 20 years taking insulin shots daily. So I hope this will help me or do you think it's to late? I'm having my surgery with dr trace curry in Ohio.

  34. Hello everyone, I'm at day 3 post op, and been dealing with the infamous shoulder pain and starvation feeling. I believe this is due to me being swollen and not able to drink as much as I'd like to make me feel full. At any rate, my wife and I are both now on the other side. She was banded over a year ago at Christmas time and has lost 90lbs. I'm hoping to do as well as her. I'm starting out at 240, and set my goal at 160, although I'll be happy with anything below 200. For anyone else out there who is post op, I can tell you my experience has been more painful that I thought it would be. I just didn't think I'd have this much pain. Although, from what feedbac…

Last year, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes 3 months after being diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. So...I started to look into getting a band. I went to one orientation, saw the surgeon (Dr. Feng from Palo Alto Medical Foundation), attended 2 nutrition appointments. I also took a couple of classes for the pre-diabetes. Once I started doing the cutting back that I needed for the pre-diabetes, I dropped 40 lbs. and I stopped the surgery process. I figured I could do it on my own and I didn't like the idea of a foreign object in…

I remember in 9th grade the popular girl telling me she noticed that I lost weight and looked good, I felt so good at that moment, and that my hard work was paying off. Fast forward 31 years, 2 kids later; a lot years of being self-conscious of my body image, size and how I always felt fat next to my freinds.
