Hi all! Im on day 5 of the pre-op liquid diet and I’ve been constipated for the last 3 days. My doctor gave instructions on what to do about constipation post-op but not pre-op. Can anyone help me? I can’t wait til Monday to call. Did any of y’all take stool softeners or milk of magnesia before the surgery? Does it affect the surgery at all if I take something?

They submitted my papers to UHC but my Drs office said she was kinda nervous because of the way my personal Dr filled out my 6 month nutritional visit paper. She said UHC was so picky so we will have to wait and see. I have done everything they asked so I hope my dr being lazy on penmanship doesn't cause me delays. She also said UHC takes atleast 2 weeks....UGH!! Lol NO PATIENTS RIGHT NOW!

Got my approval. When I started this in November I thought I'd be done with the surgery by now. Cigna only required 3 months of doctor/NUT visits. I did my psych eval in January. At the end of February I was ready to go. Went to get my thyroid tested and it came back too high. I have a thyroid condition but I take meds and it's usually under control. The one time I really needed for it to be right it was totally wacky. Doc adjusted my meds and I had to wait a month to retest. Month goes by we retest and now it's too low. Cigna requires that your TSH be within the normal limits. We adjust the meds again and wait another month to retest and it's still too low. W…

First and foremost let me make it clear in my state this will be legal. My doctor wants to put me on marijuana. I have been on narcotics for the past 10 years and my pain levels are increasing. Due to a new state guidelines they want to take away the meds. My doctor feel to be a good candidate for medical marijuana. My question is how do I intake it if I can't smoke it correctly would it lose part of its potency or its effect if I ingest it instead. I need some thoughts please and thank you Sent from my SM-T560NU using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgery is at noon tomorrow (although I’ve been told that my surgeon likes to move things up when possible which I experienced with my EGD) and I am SO excited! I’ve got to go finish some shopping today, finish packing my overnight bag and then do the Hibicleans showers. Sleep tonight and then it’s time for my VSG! The only part I’m dreading is the pain and nausea after surgery. Perhaps I’ll get more nervous as the day rolls on but for now I could just jump up and down with happiness! Here's a little tip I discovered last summer when I was too nervous to have the surgery: If you still have time before surgery, look at your local ads for garage sales and find the ones specifically advertising "plus-size clothes." Those can be big bonus buy places: I've found a lot of sales where the seller seems to have had WLS (I don't ask unless she/he is talking about it) and is selling a range of plus/XL sizes of clothes and also WLS books and the types of smaller tupperware, dishes, scales, measuring cups, and other handy kitchen items folks like us can use. Plus, it's like clothes shopping for the future! (Here in MN we only have a small weather w…

So, I had my first consult with my surgeon yesterday and found out all my requirements to be approved for surgery. Besides a nutritionist visit and psych eval I have to do blood work, EKG, chest x-ray and gallbladder ultrasound, and a urine test. Insurance also requires six months of supervised weight loss and history of failed weight loss. I'm clear about everything except this. What exactly is insurance looking for for the failed weight loss?

So, my surgery is on May 29th which means that I start my liquid diet in less than a week, next Tuesday. I have been trying to eat and say "good-bye" to as many foods as possible before that time. Well, tonight we went out for supper and I had a very yummy, huge omelet (didn't eat it all) with bacon, sausage and cheese. I also had two slices of toast with butter and jam. I was nice and full by the time that we left the restaurant. My issue is that when leaving the restaurant, I could smell someone in the area grilling and it smelled SOOOO good. Now I'm thinking that I need to have a nice big grilled hamburger before my liquid diet but have no access to a grill. Potato sal…

Good Morning!! I am in the last month of my 6 month supervised diet. I have lost about 23lbs, but it has been a very long and hard journey. I went out of town for a week for work and gained 10lbs! 10!! How crazy!! I'd like to work on getting even better at my nutrition. I have seen a lot of people do a Keto type diet after their surgery. I was wondering if anyone has done Keto and kept going through surgery. Has it helped? If so, what are your macros, any website info you can share, any recipes would be awesome as well!! Thank you

OK...I really hate to ask such a question but really need to know. I have been trying to prepare for my upcoming surgery by eating low carb foods, cutting out all soda, caffeine, and sugar. I have surprised myself and really done well with it all. I suppose I am just trying to make it all easier on myself after surgery when I'm sure it's gonna be the hardest. Ok...the weird thing, now my poo is solid black. I do have a hiatal hernia so maybe that is playing some part in it. Should I be alarmed or is this just the diet change? I'm sorry, I know this is TMI but just kinda worried. Thanks in advance and happy losing everyone!!

Hello, I am new here Yesterday I had my first initial visit with the surgeon. I am getting the Roux-en-y, gastric bypass. I called my insurance today and it is covered, yay!! Thank god I don't have to go thru a 3 or 6 months diet before getting approved. I now have to go to a nutritionist, psychologist, getting blood work and EKG done and so forth. it is getting real now. I was not aware that i would have to go thru all these appointments but it will be all worth.

I was supper pumped yesterday and couldn’t wait for today to begin my diet but when I woke up this morning I almost convinced myself that I should start tomorrow and instead have salmon with Alfredo and ribs for dinner. Like I really had to talk myself out of it and get rid of everything else in the fridge. I haven’t experienced hunger pangs but I can’t stop thinking about all the delicious food I want to eat [emoji30] Can you guys suggest any weightloss shows or documentaries that will keep me a little distracted?? Thanks in advance Yo-Yo Girl from New York City

3 days left of my preop diet. Next 2 days only protein shakes. I lost 8 pounds pretty quick the first week. Now.... nothing. Just staying at the same 257 every day. I went from never having periods thanks to my Nexplanon implant, to 5 days of the heaviest, crampiest, longest I’ve had since my 20’s when I was diagnosed with PCOS. And to top it off, I woke up this morning with 5 huge pimples! I’ve always had clear skin. I never had large breakouts even when I was in my teens. I don’t have a set weight loss for my surgery since I’ve already lost 53 pounds, but jeeze! I feel like a loser (not the good kind). Am I failing at this before the long haul even starts? I don’t u…

Hi I’m on day 2 of this liquid diet and I have 3 weeks to go! My surgery date is May 28th. I already had a break down and I have been so moody. I’m just confused because from all the forums that I have read, people are allowed to eat yogurt, sugar freepopsicles and Jello and some even get to have some time of “real meal”. I’m only allowed 2 cups of broccoli, green pepper, celery, lettuce or cucumber and that’s all for the day (plus my 4 Optifast shakes) I have two young boys and I can barely keep up with them with this lack of energy. any suggestions? I’m not allowed broths because the nurse said sodium would hinder weight loss but I feel like I’m not allowed t…

So my boss and coworkers know I am going to have gastric bypass. They have been very supportive and understanding if I needed to take time off work for my appointments. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me when “good times” would be to have surgery and I said okay. Just the other day my boss came back to talk about my surgery and now wants me to wait an additional month to have surgery due to things that are going on at work. I don’t have my surgery date yet but will get it next week when I meet with my surgeon again. During a meeting with our little department my boss made a point that my surgery is elective so maybe I should just wait until this fall to have surgery.…

I’m just starting my journey down the pre op road, almost one month in. The thing that worries me the most is whether I’m going to succeed against the food obsession. It has been my comfort, my celebration, etc. In the past while dieting, I’d get to the point of almost a panic attack at times. Really worried. Any encouragement would be so great.

I am planning on just taking PTO while I am off but my surgeon's office says to get my FMLA paperwork together and turn it in before surgery. I know what FMLA stands for but at what point does it kick in? Should I be using that instead of my PTO or does it not matter? Thanks.

So I had my first consult today, and they weighed me. I was just under 40 (39.6) bmi but I do have a comorbidity so they said I was ok. But what I want to know is, Which weigh in counts bc my first official weigh in is tomorrow. Does the insurance look at the consultation weight and the weigh in weight? I ask bc I'm worried they will say my sleep apnea isn't severe enough to clear me even though I have a CPAP.

I have been working towards surgery since the end of last year and started my appointments in January. I’ve finished my nutrition classes, psych evaluation, gallbladder ultrasound, two rounds of blood work, met with the surgeon, everything I have to do. My surgeon’s office is just waiting to get the approval letter from the psychologist and then they will call me back to schedule my surgery. Realizing I’m getting this close, though, has me suddenly nervous. If I do this, it will change the way I eat and drink for the rest of my life. The finality of it is making me worried. What if something goes wrong? What if I have complications? What if I regret having the surg…

Seems like lots more people getting the sleeve now. Doing my research. Band has problems with slippage but not as invasive, reversible and can be adjusted for years and lower price. Also seems like similar weight loss. Sleeve more invasive, more initial cost but less after cost. What else?

Today I made bone broth with 3 marrow bones, 1/2 an onion, some carrots, celery, parsley, bay leaves & garlic in my crock pot. Saved the carrots & pureed them with some of the broth for when I can have them the week after my surgery. Placed the broth 4-8oz into breast milk collection bags (they are sturdier then regular zip-lock bags) & put everything into the freezer. I also froze some in an ice cube tray to use later when I make more puréed food. I bough bone broth before when I had to do a liquid diet before a colonoscopy last year. It was so gross! I knew I could make it better & I did! Toodles, Rue

I hope to be having my surgery (gastric sleeve) later this month. I’ve been to several support groups and have read a lot on this website. One thing that scares me is that I’ll always feel nauseous especially in the beginning. I hear people talk about foods they can’t tolerate and finding out the hard way. I plan on going back to work 2 weeks after surgery. I have an office job. I’m worried that I’ll need to spend a lot of time in the bathroom feeling sick. Am I being paranoid? What has been your experience?

I’m currently taking Max Muscle Pro Elite Protein. I drink it with Unflavored Almond Milk. It’s amazing stuff! I have 4 different flavors I drink. It’s nice to be able to switch it up! Max Muscle makes their protein in many different flavors and they all taste pretty good for being protein. powder mixes really good too! Even mixes good with water! So what is everyone else on. Brand? Flavor? Does it taste good or nasty?
