I got approved on Friday 03/08/2018 [emoji4] I found out before my surgeons office because I called my insurance even though it had only been 3 days that day since the authorization request was put in. I’ve had a pretty supportive circle through the pre-op process. My family that knows has been supportive and happy for me, my friends who I told the same. Today, in a Keto group, I mentioned it and boy the whole negative onslaught came at me. “If you just stuck to Keto you’d lose and wouldn’t need WLS.” Yeah, been there done that. I was in Keto for 6 months and barely lost what some lose in a month. Some people swear they know everything. ?

Hello everyone. My name is Mike, I'm 34, about 422lbs and I am scheduled for surgery on the 28th of June (two weeks!). I'm a bit concerned because I will be having the hiatal hernia repair along with the sleeve. My wife had the sleeve last year, and everything went smooth. We are told to get a minimum 64 oz water. But what is the ideal target? I've noticed that my biggest weight drops are after days I was unusually thirsty and went well above 64oz. However, that thirst could be a result of whatever other body processes might have caused me to be loose that weight also. Yesterday I did my pre-op labs and had my final appointment with my surgeon. During my visit he told me he was sending me home with a pain pump and 10 blood thinner shots. Is this normal? Has anyone went home with a pain pump and blood thinner?

Just curious to know if there are others out there that are self pay, because your insurance won’t cover Bariatric surgery. I’m self paying.

Ugh. I've been doing great with mentally preparing for this surgery and life afterwards until literally LAST NIGHT when I started to feel anxiety about it. What if something happens when I'm having the surgery? I don't want to leave my seven year old, etc, etc etc. The logical side of me knows that death is so unlikely but I still worry about something happening. Anyone else feeling this way?

I am excited, nervous, scared, happy, worried, etc. Monday is my surgery! I had my last check up yesterday and all things are go! I am most worried about throwing up during recovery. I always throw up when I come out of anesthetic. I'm also worried about the 2.5 hour ride home the day after. I got a little travel pillow to put on my belly for the trip pain, but hubby is thinking taking the motor home may be a better idea so I can lay down, sit up, recline, walk, whatever I want. Any last minute advice?

I did all my testing, insurance approved surgery, date set for surgery, but I have to have a 2 hour long preop test? What test is this? I should've asked but didn't think to lol. I don’t know about you, but for me it has been a long time coming. Anyone else having surgery June 4th? I really anticipated that I would have been sleeved by now. Oh well, good thing come to those who wait. So how is your preop diet going? Feeling anxious or more excited? I am counting the days, but there is also some anxiety sprinkled in as I get closer to my surgery date.

I have finally finished the program for gastric bypass. I started the multi disciplinary program on Jan 22 and finished on June 1st. I would have finished sooner if I didn’t test positive for H pylori in April. I was told I’ll get a call this week with a date (if everything goes well and they don’t need anything else for me) Anyone want to share how long it took to get a surgery date after completion of their program? And how far out the surgery was/is? My surgeon is Dr Hess at Boston Medical Center.

So I joined this Bariatric Pals Community thinking that it would be awesome to talk and fellow people that are going through the same thing as me. But for some reason I find it hard to join in on the conversations. I feel like I’m butting in on other peoples conversations. Like who’s this newbie trying to talk to us? Does anyone else feel that way? Or is it just me? Because Im definitely not that way in person. I’m always talking to everyone around me no matter who it is. So I have my surgery 6/27 and I start my pre-op diet next week. I went in knowing that I would have to go on a full liquid diet, but they told me it was not a liquid diet but it is high protein/ low carb. Has anyone done a non-liquid diet pre-op?? I’m worried my liver won’t react as well as someone on a full liquid diet!

Hey everyone! I actually got gastric sleeve 2 years ago in March, and it was a failed surgery due to the surgeon not taking out enough of my stomach. I'm scheduled to get a revision bypass done on May 30th! Is anyone else having surgery on that date? (different hospital and different surgeon!) Also, my doc has an extremely strict 2 weeks pre op liquid diet, where I can only drink 5 GNC lean protein shakes, black coffee, and sugar/calorie free drinks... I'm on day 2 and it sucks! Any one else have to do something like this?

I’ve finally decided to go through with it. I want To have the Sleeve Gastrectomy because it’s middle of the road risk, though I wish it had the results of the Bypass. I've just seen a surgeon for an initial consultation about getting a bypass and he was positive and set me on the track for it. My first appointment with the dietitian is tomorrow and I'm scared to death. I've had very negative experiences with dietitians for a very long time now. I've been overweight since I was very young, so I have been interfacing with dietary consultants from the age of 10 or so. It always seemed to go the same -- the dietitian was rigid. I’m new here so please bare with me. I got my pulmonary clearance yesterday, all looks great. Now just a few cardiac tests and my endoscopy next week before seeing my surgeon again and hopefully getting insurance approval and a surgery date. A few years ago i had a major medical issue, my aorta decided to dissect and nearly killed me. Short story, my assigned plan is 4 -6 months eating what I would be allowed to eat once I'm allowed to return to solids post - op ; then a more restrictive diet for 3 -4 weeks, then the normal pre op diet then if approved surgery. I am in the first part 4 - 6 month diet. I was doing well then time stood still for some reason. I felt like one of those people on My 600 lb life talking to Dr. Now... for about 3 weeks I REALLY WAS following the plan but no movement... at all in fact the scale even ticked up a couple of pounds, I was perplexed because I knew I was not cheating. Then I was told to eliminate certain fruits and fruit serving sizes and bam, I'm moving again...…

My surgeon said that I had to lose 14-20lbs before surgery.... It's such a bummer because it's HARD! I have to lose this weight before December!! Hey my name is Stephen, I had my first doctors appointment on the 28th and was informed that I have to do a 3 month diet and that my insurance states I need to be nicotine free for 6 months. I quit smoking cigs in October of last year and started vaping at 3mg of nic. I have been off that for the last month or so, so when they do the nicotine test in the next month or so will I pass if im 2 or 3 months nicotine free? thanks

Hi, I have Emblem Health GHI. I'm on my last month of Doctor visits this month, just had a sleep apnea test last night for pulmonary clearance (my appt to the pulmonologist is June 25 to go over the sleep apnea results). I have an endoscopy June 17th. Basically, I should be done with all my paperwork and appointments by the end of June. My tentative surgery date is beginning of August. How long does it take with GHI to get approval for surgery once all appointments are done?

I had my sleeve in April and purchased some things that I no longer have a taste for. I am set for my first appointment with Dr. Kirk on 11/17 and am a little bit nervous and a lot excited. I haven’t started the pre-op diet yet. I don’t know why I felt like I HAD to but I felt like yesterday I had to go and eat one last McDonalds. I’m terrified that I won’t stick to this diet and I’ll still be overweight, nothing will work.... stretching my sleeve. I’m so ashamed that I did this. I couldn’t even finish my food because I was so disgusted with myself. I am so scared that I’m going to screw this up.
