Help please!! I am 6 weeks post op from RNY, and am resuming training for a half marathon. What are good choices for replacement carbs for long distance running that I won't risk dumping syndrome? Previously I have used only a few jelly Beans, but am afraid to try these now... TIA

I made a similar post for the "Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend". Just wanted to see if anyone is participating? Again I'll be "running" the 5K on Friday the 15th. Just wanted to see if anyone else was going to be there. I'll be in corral "B" towards the front if I can. let me know if anyone wants to run together.

I have taken up night walking. I bundle up and off I go walking downtown. The street is lit up nice and people are walking in and out of restaurants and bars. I feel safe doing so alone. I park my car at the bottom by the Water. Walk up to the end of the street and walk back down. About three miles altogether. Would be lovely to have a walking companion for safety purposes so I could increase the distance but for now I can honestly say this beats staying in at night. Feels great.

What are your preworkout, during, and postworkout supplements? Preworkout: I've tried NO-XPLODE (however, I do not like the new formula), C-4 (made me constipated, TMI, but good info for those who have problems with the bowels), and I am currently taking MHP's Fit Trainer. I wake up 5 am, but I do not get to the gym until around 6 pm. I need a really good pre-workout to get my workout started at the end of a really long day. Any suggestions? During: Aminocore by AllMax Nutrition . I have also tried a few others, but right now--in my bag--I have another supplement that increases blood flow. it gives me a really good pump. I'll add the name when I get home because I …

I made it to the top of a mountain trail today, 3.2 miles to top and back. Approximately 1,500 feet in elevation. I had to stop 5 times just to rest on occasion but I made it. The last time I did this was 24 years ago. Last summer I wrote down why I wanted to lose weight and being able to hike to the top of this trail was one of those goals.

Greetings! New around the forums. Does anyone have any suggestions for supplements that aid in muscle gain/growth. I've done pretty good with the weight loss and cardio, now that I am attempting to build muscle it seems as if my strength left with the weight and have been having a difficult time. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Prior to surgery, I tried to get into weightlifting, but found that I was too heavy to even really do a bodyweight squat, let alone anything with added weight. Now that I'm post-op, I'm looking forward to eventually trying that again, but I'm worried about how my body will do with not having as much fuel to draw from since, you know, tiny stomach and what not. Anyone have any advice in this department?

Been saying it for years. Exercise has many benefits and I'll keep doing it as long as I am allowed and able, but the calorie burn, at least to me, isn't what it's about. When I hear things like...."I burned 650 calories in 30 minutes".......my BS detector goes off. Not that the person stating that is lying or knows it's not true, it's just the equipment tells them that, and of course we want to believe it. Heck, I used to believe it. http://www.salon.com/2015/01/27/your_exercise_equipment_is_lying_to_you_partner/

I'm 26 pounds down over six weeks, and still very heavy. I work online all day, and have been very sedentary for many years. Because of that, I feel like my knees are okay and I'm afraid of stressing them with extra walking etc at this weight, bit want to increase the speed of my weight loss. My caloric intake is still quite low, and exertion seems to increase major energy crashes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It can be tough to get in a workout anytime during the year, but the holidays take the cake. You can be busy. The weather can be terrible. You may feel guilty leaving family or friends for a few minutes so you can get moving. At the same time, this is when you need to work out the most! There’s too much food around and too much stress NOT to work out! The need to exercise can lead to some crazy strategies, like doing bicep curls with your shopping bags, following a YouTube workout video on your smartphone while you’re at the airport, or taking a walk at midnight because the snow looks so bright and pretty. What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to get in your workout?

I'm a little under a month from surgery date and am trying to get a lot of things in order before hand.. So any advice would be helpful! I've had a membership to planet fitness before and know the cost/equipment they have is great. However, I've always questioned joining the YMCA. To those of you out there who have experienced either of these gyms, which did you prefer? Why? Thanks again!

What do you guys use to replenish electrolytes? I've been biking a lot lately and getting lightheaded and nauseous so I got the Nuun electrolyte tabs. However, I've discovered that they give me really bad gas pain because they're actually carbonated. Apparently I didn't read the label very well. I know coconut Water is supposed to help, but I can't seem to find one with fewer than 15 grams of sugar. I know there's a lower sugar gatorade but I try to avoid too much sucralose because it tends to give me a headache and serious sugar cravings. Any alternative suggestions?

Hi All! I am currently Pre-Op and will be having RNY surgery on December 9th. My question is how long after surgery should I wait before trying more high impact exercise? Like Skiing, Running and Jumping? I know we are supposed to start walking the day of surgery, and low impact should be fine, but being winter I want to learn how to ski this year. Also, an indoor trampoline park just opened near me that I really want to try with my friend. Has anyone had experience with this?

I'm 6 weeks post VSG and down 30lbs (80lb since the beginning of the year). I'm currently weighing about 215 lbs and am wearing waist size 30 to 32. I know I've lost a lot of muscle which I worked very hard to build before surgery. I was prepared for this. I think I need to slow down the weight loss. I am diligent about Protein intake, BCAAs, and nutrition. I'm on TRT, HCG and Clomid. I work with a personal trainer on strength training. Has any other guy on here dealt with this so soon after surgery? If so, how did you handle it? I never imagined wearing anything less than a 32 waist. I'm not complaining or gloating. I'm genuinely concerned about becoming too thin. …

There’s a ton of talk about Thanksgiving food on the boards, but what about activity? Now, I want to know how you’re going to keep fit and healthy over Thanksgiving. Do you have a healthy tradition, like taking a walk early in the morning or playing football after eating? If not, maybe it’s time to start one! What are your plans for getting in a workout this Thanksgiving weekend? I’m planning to hit my home gym. At least, that’s what I’m calling it. It’s just a rowing machine that lets me get in some cardio when the weather’s not fun for running outdoors. I’ll probably also lift a few weights. What exercise are you planning to do on Thanksgiving and over the Thanksg…

I am 10 weeks out and been working out a month now and during the last two weeks have really been hitting the gym hard. NOW I AM IN A STALL!!! I Burn about 700-1000 calories a day. I don't understand. I do about 4 miles on elliptical or bike and lift weights. Is it that i am gaining muscle? And if so will I stay at the weight I am now? I am tone but have only lost 35 pounds and that was at 7 weeks out. Now i am just stuck. I don't want to be tone at this weight. I weigh 172 and think i should get down to at least 140 to 145. Any suggestions?

We all know that exercise is a good thing. It burns calories, improves mood, makes your heart healthier, improves blood sugar control, makes you smarter…and on and on. But it’s hard! It can be a real struggle to get out the door, especially when it means getting out of your cozy bed a little earlier, or leaving behind your couch and favorite TV show. Sometimes I trick myself into getting started by telling myself I only need to do a little and then I can rest again. I also try to make it easier by varying my workouts so I don’t get bored, and having my shoes and workout clothes all ready so it’s easier to start. So…what are your tricks for making sure you get in your …

I am getting soooooo bored with my exercise. I workout 2x a day with recumbant stationary bike, treadmill and/or a long walk. In between, I can't find enough to do to stay busy. Instead of exercising for the sake of exercising, I would rather have enough active & busy things to do, that I could cut back on my workouts. Any ideas??

What is a good comfortable walking tennis shoe for someone 5'1" 280 lbs? I'm pre surgery and want to get started walking now but every shoe I've bought hurts my feet in no time at all. I've even been fitted at The Walking co. and thought I had good shoes but after a few weeks home my feet were killing me to walk. I've tried every brand that I can find. New Balance Brooks Abeo and more.

Hello everyone, just looking for some input and motivation to continue. I don't like to run, never did, but I think that has a lot to do with me always being heavy and it being painful. I still have 40 lbs to go before goal and I started running yesterday. What do you think of running in the treadmill vs running out doors? I did a mile yesterday inspite of my fat causing aftershocks all over my body lol. I have several friends out of the are that do 5k on the regular and just want to be able to join in the good times too. Sorry for the long post, any input is appreciated

I'm wanting to join a gym to do some strength training. Looking to continue to lose weight but hopefully keep some muscle mass and tone up. I have cardio equipment at my house. I would only be going for about 3 days a week since I do cardio at home so that's why Planet's cheap rates are appealing. Is it really judgement free? I would like a gym that has more people looking to lose weight than people bodybuilding. I've lost 50 pounds already but I still weigh 420 pounds. Am I even going to be able to fit in the machines? I would hate to buy a membership and I can't even use any of the machines.

Anyone else try this little (and free) app? You are Runner 5 crash-landed near a settlement desperate for supplies during a zombie apocalypse. You listen to the story while you run (or in my case, walk). Your job is to find items to help your settlement. Periodically, the person monitoring you (in the app) will pipe up with something like, "Zombies 10 feet behind you--RUN!" If you're a runner, you'd begin a sprint or simply pick up your pace. In my case, I walk a bit faster. The app plays your music when it's not talking, so you get a little bit incentive from both. I feel a bit silly just lengthening my stride when the guy is shouting, "RUN!" but my knees just can't co…

I realize the importance of resistance work in a sound fitness program, but since the last time I consistently did a resistance program, I've developed arthritis in my right shoulder, and I have some impingement in it as well. I'm a female in her early 60's. This means working overhead is pretty much out, and depending on the day, push-ups are out, too. Suggestions, anyone? I'm thinking I can handle planking pretty consistently. Extra points for things I can do without driving to the gym. I do have free weights at home. I really want to ditch the excuses and get something started. Thanks!

This morning I decided to change up my routine a bit. Usually I jog on Saturday mornings, but felt I needed to 'surprise' my body. Instead I did circuit training at the gym, but I decided to use 5# hand weights while doing the step portion of the circuit. A lady came up to me, she said I had really good moves and asked if I minded if she copied them. I was flattered that she even asked! So I guess in don't look like an octopus with its tentacles flailing about after all. :-)

I was sleeved April 20 and was able to get back into the pool in mid-May. I initially wore the bathing suit I had left over from the end of last season. My birthday was in June so I ordered two suits for my birthday. One a size lower than last year's, and the second a size lower than that. Today, I finally tried on the second suit and it fit! For someone who started as such a high weight as I did there is a lot of room between bathing suit sizes so I consider this a big deal! Now, I need to watch the sales and order the next two sizes down do I will be prepared.

Has anyone tried doing T25 by Beach Body? I'm about 12 weeks out and 70 pounds down. Still 212 though. I was interested in trying T25 but am concerned that it may still be to intense for me. Also concerned that I might hurt myself trying it. Anyone one else try it? How was it? Oh currently my workouts are walking with weights for 30 minutes every day. I need to start doing more but it has to be something I can do from home and doesn't take a lot of time.

Dang..I never stop learning as I stumble my way through weight loss. After reading the information on female athlete triad. I am really looking into my relationship with working out. Using the macronutrient calculator at body building.com. I realize my calories and Protein intake was way off. I also had to get real about a possible eating disorder and overdoing it at the gym. Female athlete triad is a syndrome in which eating disorders (or low energy availability),[1]amenorrhoea/oligomenorrhoea, and decreased bone mineral density (osteoporosis and osteopenia) are present.[2] Also known simply as the Triad, this condition is seen in females participating in sports that…

Good morning, Bariatric Pals! If you wear a pedometer of any kind, please consider signing up for the ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) "United We Step" campaign. It's a one-day event on 11/2 to "bring attention to the obesity epidemic in America, and encourage individuals to increase their daily physical activity." Their goal is for participants to collectively register 42 million steps, or the amount needed to circumnavigate the United States. Based on the number of people registered when I checked the website this morning, I think they're going to fall far short of this goal. But it's not too late to help! There are no registration …

I've never tried yoga but I'm interested. I worry that my bad knees would prevent me from doing yoga. The problem is that my knees pop out. I can't sit with my legs crossed on the floor. What looks appealing is that yoga would improve my core strength and balance. Can the postures easily be modified to accommodate my knee situation?

G'day all.. Just a question for you regular exercise type folk out there.. Is it weird that I'm setting myself musical goals in the exercise department? Let me explain... I've been concentrating on weights and muscle retention since I got gutted.. I've not been too concerned with 'fitness' because of my size... (For those who don't know, I started out at over 500 pounds - 255kg was actually heaviest ever) Anyway, as my fitness was S**T, I decided to change the way of setting my goals as far as time spent doing cardio goes... I started by finding a playlist on my Spotify that was about an hour long. I came up with Green Day's Bullet In a Bible album. (1h 4mins…

I found out yesterday BCBS fep pays for my gym memberships under the "my blue" program. All it takes is a $25 enrollment fee, and they pay the membership. Lucky for me, cause I belong to two gyms: one near my work for noon work-outs, and the new one (Snap) 40 miles away near my home. BCBS also has some nice little tools, too: like a wellness professional locator which lists acupuncturists and masseuses close to your zip code and what kind of discount they give "my blue" members.

I keep reading every where how it's important to have good carbs before a workout. I've been eating what I call my Cherry Garcia concoction (0% plain Greek yogurt with a few cherries & dark chocolate chips) an hour before my workout, but it occurs to me that that may not be enough? Here's the nutritional breakdown: Cal: 107 Fat: 3g Carbs: 13g Sugar: 10g Fiber: 1g What has worked for you? I've discovered I can't do anything to heavy or I'll have to wait more than an hour to exercise.

I am a lap swimmer again. Years ago, when I was in much better shape, I was a regular lap swimmer. At my peak I swam a mile a day. For the last few years I have mostly been doing deep Water aerobics for exercise. Last week, I added some back stroke into my routine. Yesterday, I was doing a few laps of backstroke and thinking how great it would be once I was able to become a lap swimmer again. After about 15 minutes, I realized I WAS a lap swimmer again! Because, I was swimming laps without a struggle and actually enjoying it. I am on my way!

Hi, all, so I finished my first 3 weeks of Camp Gladiator and I have signed up for another 6 months! I love this workout!! Its hard core! I am almost 4 years out so I needed to up my exercise more. I am down 90 lb from the sleeve sx but want to loose another 40-50. Have any of you done CG? Do you still stick to a high protein, low carb diet or have you had to increase your calorie intake due to these hard workouts? I go to 6 CG camps a week and the next 4 weeks are starting tomorrow. I would love to know what your diet has become with CG.

I'm fairly new here but wonder what or if others are exercising, what you are doing, how often and does it work for you? Is it difficult to maintain? I have been a swimmer since surgery , May 2015. It is helping me achieve my weight loss goals. Here in Texas, it's still in the 90s and I have been able to keep swimming so far. I'm nervous about when it gets too cold to swim. Anybody else doubting their ability to keep up their exercise goals? Pleas share and be kind????????????

After 4 weeks I was cleared to begin lifting weights again. I've recently started back with weights and I have noticed an unusual feeling in my stomach when doing squats. Even without weights, it feels like something is moving around inside my stomach when doing squats. Has anyone experienced this after surgery? I signed up for an 8 week "medical integration" program at my gym (affiliated with a local hospital) to get me back on track and have an assessment scheduled for this program this afternoon. I will ask the person performing the assessment about squats after WLS.

I belong to a few groups for support but I am a peer reviewed search based kind of girl and would like to read the same peer reviewed journals as the doctors do. I am soecifically wanting help with the this and didn't see it anywhere. In particular I am 7 weeks out and I joined a 100 mile walking challenge the last couple of months. I have walked 18 miles in 2 days. How does that affect my diet. Should I get in more Protein or calories? Thank you so much for the wonderful welcome! These are my last two days of exercise. Never done anything Ike this before so kinda in a new world. Thank you in advance for your kindness and help.

Help me with this. My work out pants are funky. Even after running them thru the wash twice, I still smell some musk to them. And when I wear them again that odor comes out stronger, especially with the sweat from my routine. The pants are polyester/spandex, with"coolmax" gusset lining. My sports bra/tops wash and smell fime afterwords...it's just these pants. They were getting to big, so it's time to shop for new stuff... But is there a material I should try and avoid or seek out??
