Planet Fitness?

I'm wanting to join a gym to do some strength training. Looking to continue to lose weight but hopefully keep some muscle mass and tone up. I have cardio equipment at my house. I would only be going for about 3 days a week since I do cardio at home so that's why Planet's cheap rates are appealing. Is it really judgement free? I would like a gym that has more people looking to lose weight than people bodybuilding. I've lost 50 pounds already but I still weigh 420 pounds. Am I even going to be able to fit in the machines? I would hate to buy a membership and I can't even use any of the machines.

I noticed there was a giant box of Cheez Its behind the counter. I just want to go there to lift so the gimmicks don't bother me. Didn't notice any bodybuilder types. There were some fit people but I would say most were normal to overweight. The location is ideal for me. It's 2.5 miles away and I can get there by taking all side streets so come spring I can ride my bike there.

I'm a PF member and I actually love it. No one there ever looks at me crazy or anything. People are there doing their own thing. I like that they have a 30 minute circuit. Makes it easier to get a quick effective work out in. I do wish they had classes like 24 hour BUT for $20 a month I can't ask for much... especially compared to the prices at 24 hour fitness. The gym I use had hydro massages so after I work out I can get an awesome 7 minute Water bed massage... Overall, it works for what you want it to work for. You'll see people of all sizes and fitness levels there.

I'm assuming Planet is staffed 24 hours so I can show up at night and get a tour? Don't really have time during the day. Think I may go there tonight and check it out.

Not all of them are 24/7 but a lot of them are. I'd check online for the hours. The one's that aren't close at 9 usually.

Did my first workout today. Place wasn't too busy. There was two of every machine so there wasn't a wait for machines. I fumbled around a bit getting the lay of the land. I was a bit surprised by how little weight I could lift. Used to lift a lot more in high school. This was more an orientation. I still think I got a good workout. Not sore yet but my arms and legs are tired. I couldn't do lat pulldowns. My ass was hanging off the seat. Have to lose some more weight before I can do them. I ended up doing chest press, shoulder press, chest flys, leg press, calf raises, low back extensions, and delt rows. Didn't do leg curls because it looked like I couldn't fit in the machine. I'm going back Sunday. Since this was my first time lifting in a long time, I'll give an extra day.

Don't think you can't fit on the machine! those things adjust - I found that out... I wouldn't do the leg curls because of my knee being a weaka** punk - after awhile I started to though - with very little weight - the leg thing adjusts and so do the seats.

I still can't do the lat pulldowns either - hurts my shoulder to much - but I do everything else :) Good luck!!

Did my second workout. Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty which was nice. I ended up doing chest press, leg press, underhand delt row. Then shoulder press, calf extensions, low back extension. Then chest flys, leg curls, and overhand delt rows. My plan was to do 3 sets of each but got tired after 2. Since it is only my second time I'm going to build up to 3 sets of each at about 12 reps. I probably could have done a little more weight but I'll build up to that. My legs and arms aren't nearly as sore as the first day. So far I'm liking Planet. Worth the $10.

I love Planet Fitness. I've never felt judged there and everyone is so nice. I especially love the massage chairs after working out, which are free with my membership. Also love the 30 minute circuit and that they have many treadmills, bikes and elliptical a. I've never had to wait for a machine.

I've been going to Planet Fitness 3x a week since right after my surgery so for about 18 months. Yes you'll see super fit people there but also people who are of all sizes. I love it. No, it's not the best gym money can buy but for $10 a month is been a god send. It's been so awesome to do things there I wouldn't have dreamed of when I first started going.
