Just wondering if ya'll saw this and had any opinions. I'd link the the original but there's an annoying video that auto plays on that site and it bothered me. Celebrate it. So this is my first year ever that I carved a pumpkin and I'll be taking my five year old twins to trick or treat. To minimize the candy, we're only hitting the dozen houses on the block where we personally know the neighbors. Trick or treat is weird if you didn't grow up doing it. The idea of knocking on strangers doors and asking for candy is just bizarre to me, but it's totally normal to Americans that grew up with the tradition, I guess. We're also handing out goldfish crackers and candy.…

  5. In honor of Halloween today and for fun i decided to post this irish legend of the jack o lantern Enjoy! According to Irish folklore a man nicknamed stingy jack was well known for his drunkeness and quick temper. The Devil came to collect Jack's soul at a pub on all Hallows Eve. Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack even…

  7. Or in other words, how the mighty fall. Oh hard times! Self image, weight, perception, I am pretty, I am thin I am ugly, I am fat, My own worse enemy. I slip a little then I trip myself all the way. food, my enemy, my nemesis! My lifeline my love! I must eat! I mustn't eat! I never want to eat again. I want to eat all the time... Day by day as I consume, I am consumed. I am an inspiration, I am a sham. I am hanging on so fragile and scared. I want to live, this is not living.

Just curious to who has watched it and/or not . I just started watching it on tlc last night and could very much relate. It showed the struggles of someone that heavy through 7 years and the ups and downs and everything revolving around bariatric surgery. So if you haven't watched it I suggest it.

Hey all - Just had an endoscopy. It's the last thing on my journey to surgery. I submitted my paperwork to insurance today also. My surgeon's nurse mentioned something about H. Pylori and how they tested for it during the endoscopy. I'm just wondering - how many of you actually had it? Here I thought I was almost done and now the possibility of having to wait longer (I've already waited 6 months) has me a little bummed. Thanks all.

I have been doubting my own weight loss. Sounds weird I know but true. I've watched the scale creeping down over the past six months yet wasn't seeing much change in my clothing sizes. Then I figured it out the other day. When at my heaviest I could not wear any of my jeans couldn't even button some of them( think I blocked that out). I wore only stretchy roomy clothes. So instead of being the size 22 I had in my mind, I was actually more like a size 26. So the fact that my 22s are almost too big to keep wearing now actually feels like more of an accomplishment ! I went back to look at pre op pics of me from Christmas last year(the ones that sealed my decision to have t…

4 wks ago we drove down to Ca to help out with my MIL. I knew she had Parkinsons right away. The following 2 weeks, we took care of her. My FIL asked us to move in to help with her, him (he's 90) and the house. We agreed. We'll move our whole lives 16 hrs away and move into hubbys old bedroom. Then MIL was in the hospital with a colon infection. Afer a week, we drove home to pack and move. She seemed to be getting better. She was talking and asking to go home. We spent a week at home (Oregon) and left yesterday, 4 days before we were scheduled to leave. Hubby had a feeling we should go early. Stopped 1/2 way there for the nite. Got a call this am that she had died. Hub…

Post op day 13. Had to talk to on call surgeon this weekend. Two sites infected. Red, warm, pain, swollen, no fever or pus. Glad I insisted they see me today. Staples taken out, had reaction to adhesive tape, very bad. The two sites open up after staples removed and pus came out. So now packing wounds 3 times a day, ouie. Got cleared for purée, taking whole pills and all of vitamins. They stated they were disappointed in my loss of ONLY 15 pounds, but because I stayed in hospital longer, am constipated, started my period, have a post op infection nuns cannot walk much due to my broken leg....they will excuse it THIS time. Wtf? Really? Oh and my brother died the night befo…

I've gotten into the habit of going into my closet on Sunday evenings and trying on clothes. I'm actively loosing weight so I never know what's going to fit. And when I wasn't doing it weekly I missed out on wearing some things. So today I'm standing in front of the mirror wearing a formal dress (have an event in early December) and my son comes in and says "aren't you a little old to be playing dress up?" Which I promptly reply - NOPE. Anyone else play dress up?

  16. I can feel the heat already from the flaming I am sure to get ... In all my post VSG weight loss years, I've had my best losses when I carefully monitor my nutrition and don't exercise. As soon as I exercise, the loss slows down dramatically and if I do only cardio, it comes to a complete stop. I think one of my (many) errors I made early on in the journey was actually to start exercising too soon. I should have focused on letting the honeymoon period get the bulk of the weight off first, and then started exercising. This is my body, I have to live in it, and I am observing what works for me, I'm not preaching this practice to anyone, just conversing about this cu…

I have a question for everyone who had the lap band already. I just went to the first initial meeting this past Thursday. I have an appointment to see the surgian in september. In the meeting they said I had to have six consecutive visits (6 months, once per month) with my pcp just to talk about what I'm doing to lose weight. I don't understand this, for the whole reason I'm getting this done is because nothing is working for me. Is this really the case or is it just to see if we are dedicated? AND if this is the case why do they have me meeting with the surgian so soon?

I'm so frustrated and almost mad! I had no idea I had any heart problems until I started my approval process last November. In those monthly PCP visits, my doctor diagnosed atrial fibrillation and sent me to a cardiologist, who recommended a procedure which would involve stopping the heart and shocking it back into normal rhythm. I asked if there were alternatives and he put me on medication which had me doing well. Now here I am, almost 3 months out from my surgery and 60 pounds lighter, and now my PCP is talking about a pacemaker. I have to go back to him this afternoon to get the results of wearing a Holter monitor last week and since he wouldn't tell me the result…

I just ordered from them a few pieces of clothing- they sell used clothing online that looks new, sometimes even is new with tags. They sell Plus, Women's, Juniors, girls and boys (sorry Men- nothing for you yet!). Not bad- I spent $45 for 2 skirts and Land's End winter sweater, and two tops from Dana Buchman. You can also sell your like new or new clothes back to them for some spending $$ on their site, or convert to cash. Worth a try- I've got lots of great size 26/28's to get rid of! Has anybody else tried this way of budget shopping for your shrinking self, and what did you think? Registering gets you 20% off your first order and $50 order gets you free shipping…

  30. Today at work someone brought in a beautiful carrot cake (my drug of choice pre-surgery) for someone's birthday and it was the first time since my surgery 6 weeks ago that I was seriously tempted. I could not believe all of the garbage, manipulative, justification and flat out self sabotaging thoughts I was having. Like the addict i am, I was sitting there at my desk literally obsessing and fighting with myself about how I needed to have it. My first thoughts - go for it, you have been super good- why not? Which progressed to thoughts about ways to sneak a taste, move the cake out of the way and accidentally touch the frosting with my thumb. Slice it for others so I …

Hello VSTers... This past labor day weekend.. I took a short vacation and visited San Francisco and met with a friend who has not seen me in person for over 2 years.. (she did see my weekly update pictures though..) I’ve been overweight/obese for as long as I remember.. and being invisible is my specialty.. but not this weekend! This is going to be one weekend that I will always remember.. First, I walk to my terminal in airport.. all worried that I was not going to fit in the plane seat.. and a pretty young teen walks up to me and says.. “You look pretty..” I had the biggest smile when I said thank you.. Second, I fit my seat…I actually had a little wiggle room!…

Hi I am no stranger to trying to loss weight, 5 years ago had the lap band placed, what a mistake, had to have it removed now after being frustrated with the office staff and the insurance company, I am now going on 2 week post surgery for the sleeve procedure. The weeks after surgery not so bad. The worst part was that my body system was not completely clean. So I felt like it was purging all food out of my system, having to run to the bathroom was no joy. My surgery was on August 19,2013 and as of today I am down 15 pounds and I am feeling good

I wonder, am I the only one who finds that "My Body gallery" really depressing? I always feel worse after looking at it, not better, not uplifted. Because I type in my goal weight and the women still look a little soft and chunky. and since I am a solid 30 lbs away from that, I still look chubbyfat. I typed in my current weight, and yup, those women look like they are walking the fine edge of chubby and fat. Then I typed in my pre-op high, which is over 100 lbs heavier than I am now, and I SWEAR TO YOU, I saw no difference between one of the pics there and the pic at my current weight. They looked the SAME to me. If you had shown me those pics and asked me to say h…

What a great way to start my day :-( In all fairness, the deck is old and needs replacing but still, it didn't collapse on my thin family members and probably never would have. 48. Hi everyone: Today, I attended a workshop at work regarding the power of unconscious bias, and how it affects all of us in our daily lives. Of course, many of us are probably already aware of the biases we may possess—but there are some that can surprise you! There's a website for Project Implicit, created at Harvard, that allows you to take 10-15 minute interactive tests to judge your unconscious biases on everything from gender to race to—wait for it—even weight. You may have to enter your email to participate, but the tests are free, and very interesting! https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/selectatest.html Try it out, and let me know what you thought, what …
