I feel sorry for this person & his family. I'm sure his obesity led to being humiliated in life, now he is also in death. This was the most compassionate article I saw. The local news stations made crass remarks online and on live TV http://m.nbc12.com/nbc12/pm_/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=od:CU6uSMZS

Just wondering if anyone out there is planning to participate in NaNoWriMo. I've started for at least the last 5 years, but never finished. Maybe this will be my year?

A couple of years ago, I bought a dress from Fashion Bug (oh, how I miss thee). It's a black, velvety knee length halter with a jacket. Definitely a Christmas / New Year's dress. I never had a chance to wear it, and I really want to! My sleeve is scheduled for 11/25, and I'm starting at about 300 pounds. I'm torn between hoping it doesn't look like a shiny potato sack on me at New Year's, and just incorporating it into a halloween costume so I can finally wear the thing. Think it'll be wearable? If not, any ideas for how I can turn this dress into something Halloween-y?

I've lost 140 pounds + husband's lost 60 pounds = revived sex lives. I don't know if hormonal changes are added to this equation, but whatever it is....... thank GOD! We've been married 26 years, raised/raising four kids and we unfortunately put ourselves on the back burner for far too long. Not anymore.......... Revived energy from exercising, sooooo much less body fat, and more time on our hands....... YIPPEE!

Every time I look at this site on the phone it freezes and unable to continue to use it. I don't think it's the phone cause I'll jump to Facebook and it's fine. Also the screen moves as I am reading a post and then somehow it magnifies what I am reading? The web is so much easier... Have a great day.

Hi everyone...I am in the very beginning stages of finding out more info about gastric sleeve surgery!! I meet with all the docs on sept 8th for my very first visit!! I have a huge concern about saggy skin, I'm 5'3 and 240lbs, does anyone find that going to the gym and toning usually helps with this problem? I know you most likely are going to have it in places no matter what since u lose so much weight so quickly, but anyone know any ideas of how to avoid having it as much as u can?? Thanks

I thought when I'm back at work my routine will flow and I'll be back to basics. I return to work hopefully next week as I go in for a procedure tomorrow. Any tips to help me through? Cheers

I've started a new chapter in my life. One of the changes I am looking to make is to volunteer in some capacity. My motives aren't entirely selfless. I know that finding a hobby or a cause that I am passionate about will be good for my self esteem and give me a healthy outlet for my energies. What have you started after WLS that "gives back" and gives you joy?

I have been banded about a year, had my 1st fill about a month ago. After the fill I have been having a lot of episodes of slime and getting stuck. I know it takes some getting used to but now it has affected my work. I have been told that it has been noticed when I have to run to the bathroom or a trash can when food comes back up after getting suck and it needs to stop or they will send me home each time it happens. I was told it is gross and unsanitary and I have put myself in this situation. I was made to explain how my body works and why this happens in front of a male supervisor. It was one of the most embarrassing I have even been through. They suggested for me not…

hey all, i can use some advice regarding grad school! i have been enrolled in a grad program for a little over a year. i'm done with 3 classes, need about 13 to graduate.i am stuck at a crossroads. going to grad school will ultimately take a good amount of money out of my pocket, and that is money i could use for my kids college funds. i would love to eventually teach in my field. i would need at least a master's degree. however...i have multiple contacts and friends who have completed a similar degree to the program that i am in, and could not find placement in a desired position. many had to choose a different position or continue on with a post-masters study prog…

Hi. This is just a very preliminary feeler- anyone in the Pittsburgh, Pa area interested in a support/exercise group? Nothing solid yet, I'm just trying to see if anyone local is lurking on these boards. I was banded at Magee 2 and a half years ago.

So I am on my fourth day of a ten day liquid diet. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, August 25th. I feel an overwhelming sensation of depression. Time cannot go fast enough to be over this 10 day period. Work is pure heck, I work in a doctors office where no one seems sympathic they even seem to be trying to set me up to fail. It is hard because my husband still needs to eat and I am used to cooking for him, he works 12 hour days and is very tired when he gets home. So I am making him things that I do not like. I am a very picky eater so that is not real hard to do. In saying I am a picky eater I will have to skip the puréed stage of my post op diet and s…

I was banded March 2014 and the band is helping me with the physical aspects of my relationship with food. For the psychological, emotional and spiritual underlying issues, I've returned to the 12 step program this week. I was in OA 20+ years ago but dropped out early in my marriage. I've started attending Codependents Anonymous meetings. I'd like to hear from people who have found the 12 step programs to be of help as they have learned to live without the crutch of excess food after WLS. I may return to OA as well, but I'm learning that my relationships with several key people in my life have been very damaged, and so CODA is where I am starting. Back when I was in OA…

I've lost totally post-op 22 lbs and just saw my doctor today for the first check-up. He told me that I should eat solid normal food now and stop with the Soup and soft food. Still no restriction for food excepr candies, sweet stuff and soda. I took photos of most of my food during one month to show him with the portion (compare to my iPhone), he said I should eat more to lose weight. Now he ordered me to eat my meal in the portion of the iPhone!! OMG, I thought I would die from stuffing myself for that amount of food but actually it's fine. Just make sure to chew well and eat verrrrrrrrrrrry slowly. So my first solid meal I went for Japanese, 1 small grilled ravi…

My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for August 25th. I begin my pre-op diet tomorrow which is a high protein low carb diet. I can't drink during a meal or 30 minutes after. No ban on coffee, only carbonated drinks. My liquid diet is for 24 hours before surgery. After reading some of the other posts I think I have it easy. Anyone know why this is? I'm 64 yo, and weigh 240lb at 5'2. I can't wait to meet the new me. I am so happy I found this app. Michele

Yes, so I hear it all the time, "I'm having this surgery because I want to lose weight and gain my health back"... but what I really want to know is, where is that person inside you that is doing it so you can be more attractive? I won't lie, I hated being fat. I did not feel pretty and I do feel a million times better being smaller. I even float across the floor better if that makes sense. I fit my clothes better, I can find a lot cuter clothes and I like shopping and doing make-up. They don't call me "diva" for nothing. I like taking pictures and I like having pretty hair and nails and lots of bright outfits. I love it when my husband tells me I'm beautiful. I person…

I'm 2 1/2 years post surgery and recently found out I was pregnant. My weight on the day of surgery was 236 I'm down to 150. I am now 10 weeks pregnant and have noticed my appetite has changed drastically I'm feel like I'm constantly hungry and can eat a lot more then usual. For the most part I still eat small portions just a lot more through the day but some days I feel like I ate a big portion size and I get nervous that when I eat like that I could damage the surgery. Has anyone else felt like this or went through this?

Just wondering if any of you have had to buy two seats when flying somewhere and what the policies were. I am considering flying somewhere and would either be on Delta or Sun Country. I think I will be fine, but I'm worried about my boyfriend (360 pounds) needing another seat. Thanks in advance for any input!

my HP laptop has stopped playing videos from youtube, flipo, etc. don't know why. it stopped about 2 weeks ago, played for a day, stopped again completely, then played some yesterday without issue, then again today it won't play them. i am INCREDIBLY computer illiterate so i have NO idea what to do or where to go to figure it out. our AVG virus software did a virus update about 2 weeks ago but that wouldn't affect it, i don't think. and why yesterday then nothing today??? when i click onto a video it will bring it up and show the opening frame only. no further play or sound...anybody have any ideas? i've done multiple virus scans and it seems clean...

I thread for me leads to other thoughts for topics. The older I get the more I want to get away from horrible drugs that make me sick. For years I have watched and read the books of Dr. Andrew Weil on natural healing. I came across this recently on FB, where a cousin across the US said this remedy cured her leg cramps, so I thought I would start with this post. Please share your recommendations too! "I have fibromyalgia and lupus and for 25 years I have suffered with leg cramps [not at all related to the fibro] and when I get cold it is worse. I heard about the mustard and wow, it works within minutes. Thankyou thankyou thankyou. This has allowed me to live a li…

So here is the back story: Been married for 20 years to a great guy and have 2 healthy, happy children. Come from lower middle, class backround with blue collar workers galore. Due to the fact that my parents were very very (did I say very frugal) there whole lives I have come into a lot of money over the past few years (when my mom passed and then when my dad passed). My husband comes from lawyers and doctors and an upper middle class backround and his parents were not at all frugal. Here is the issue my father in law passed over a year ago and my mother in law who is 86 and lives in a beautiful home surrounded by beautiful things has become very paranoid about mon…

Being given 202 lbs of grain fed free-range freezer beef one week after VSG. I own a farm and the farmer I lease the cropland to gives me a 1/4 beef every June. It is the best tasting, cut-with-a-spoon-tender, out of this world beef you've ever eaten. My favorite food is steak and there are pounds and pounds of it to pick up Wednesday. Irony...you can kiss my ***. haha

I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this topic... Anyone going to the conference in Orlando? http://www.ywmconvention.com/ We had a member of OAC give a presentation at my support group last night, and I'm totally enthused about this and would love to go. Has anyone been before?

Has this happened to anyone? I had to sit on a bench today for a while and when I stood up I couldn't feel my foot! My whole leg was asleep. I can't remember if I had my legs crossed? This hasn't happened to me in maybe fifteen years. Is that a coincidence or is it because I have less cushion in the back so the nerves get compressed on a hard surface? It was kind of scary!

Hello, my name is IcanMakeit and I am a food gobbler. I didn't practice slow eating enough while I was pre-op and so it didn't become a habit. Now I find myself taking huge bites of food (and having to spit some out) and/or chewing only my old normal amount. But now I'm coming forward and admitting to everyone that I have a problem. I hope by making this public confession that I can turn myself around and learn to eat like Scarlett O'Hara, not like a field hand.

I'm hoping to become the healthy, happy person I am and hopefully find true love:). Any advice?
