I used to float around the pool on my back. Discovered yesterday during my first swim of the season that I sink now. Can't float! My ballast is gone! I just think this is so funny.

I hope someone finds this information useful. Yesterday, on my way home from after a long day of work, a gentleman in a pickup truck pulled along side and got my attention. He said he almost hit me because my brake lights weren't working. Got home and with my husband's help, found out--yes my brake lights weren't working. My turn signals and running lights were working. My first thought was a fuse. Dug out the owner's manual from the glove box and found the fuse. Fuse appeared to be OK. Drove to Lavernia, small South Texas town and found all automotive places closed. Drove to closest larger town, Floresville and went to auto parts store. Even though they wer…

I know we are all very focused on our individual weight loss journeys. I know for me, it was a rollercoaster of highs and lows emotionally. Physically, the changes can seem daunting as we embark on exercise routines which find ourselves being screamed at by an over the top Zumba instructor. Some days, mentally, I am drained. I believe it is important to stay focused on ourselves early out. This is our time. We have committed to making a fundamental change with our relationship with food. At times it has been easy for me to slip into a funk. I become restless, irritable and discontent. Someone wiser than myself suggested to me that when I find myself suffering fr…

Evoking the book The Things They Carried to a slight degree in the title, I have found a lot of comfort in carrying / displaying small items that represent the ideal/ energy/ medicine of this WLS journey. I realize that my perspective and framework may not align with everyone, but with multiple conversations with some folks who are going through this I was encouraged to share what has brought me comfort, joy, and hope during an often scary process - at least for me. Whether it was at a time when the dotcom industry placed an undue economic stress on millions of folks back in year 2000'ish (myself included) during a major crash, causing many of us to reinvent ourselves…

Went to Red Lobster tonight with my fiancé. I ordered the kids meal of broiled flounder with green beans. It was still a large portion I was surprised. I also ordered a glass of Chardonnay. My wine was more calories and was more expensive than my meal ($5.99 vs. $5.50). Also, I must say that I feel silly ordering alcohol and a kids meal. Do you order kids meals when you go out? It was just a funny observation to me and I wanted to share. $5.50 for a meal at Red Lobster with leftovers is awesome!

Thought this might be a fun topic. Corny to some I'm sure but none the less fun. So do you have that one song that you relates to your journey? For me it is Faith of the Heart or more commonly known as the Theme from Star Trek spinoff Enterprise.

I am a Toyota guy and lately I've been seeing some ads for the new 2014 Corolla and so as a gift to myself and having lost 111 pounds now... I decided that a new body should come with a new car. So I replaced my 2005 Corolla with a 2014 Corolla. And she's AWESOME. And because I'm totally worth it.

Ok so me being a lil stopped up..(prolly TMI) but I drank 2 glasses of wine last night an it did not get me drunk. I wasent intending on that. But what it did do is clean my system out which was well needed. I am pleased to say that I have heard and read so many horror stories and I proved that it will not do anything but work as a colon clense. Especially if u haven't went #2 in 2 days.

Coming up on the two week mark for surgery. My mind is going crazy thinking of all these questions. :/ What will my life look like in a year? How will I feel? What will I have accomplished that I couldn't have right now? So of course I'm throwing it all out to you guys my wls surgery family. Yes yes I'm already attached to you . My life has been a whirlwind the last couple of years. I gained custody of my niece and went from a single girl in an apartment with a dog to a single mom with a child and two dogs! I tried internet dating on and off for years and man oh man has that been a crazy ride! Funny that now my confidence is higher than it's ever been and my New Yea…

I'm 4 mos post sleeve and my hair is definitely still falling out. I've read not to bleach it but rather to color it. I'm afraid if I do anything to it, its going to make the thinning more obvious but I have tons of gray hair around the front of my face and need to do something. Any suggestions? How long did everyone wait before highlights?

So there is one thing as a big girl I have always let's myself indulge in and that was shoes. No matter what size I was they always looked good . So now that I'm on this journey my girlfriend tells me that she lost two shoe sizes! Um noooooooo! I own over 50 pairs and I love them all. say it isn't so? Curious did you all lose shoe sizes? Sigh......so new clothes and shoes? Hmmmm just might have to take both clothes and shoe shopping to a whole new level! lol!!!

Hey everyone! I am posting in hopes that I can find the kindness of strangers here. I'm raising money to attend the 2014 Your Weight Matters Convention in Orlando, FL. Donations will be used to cover registration, hotel accommodations, and transportation. Why am I asking for your help? I am out of work at this time. I have had several job interviews and had no luck getting a job yet. I blame a lot of this on my weight and weight bias. I chose to seek funding for the convention so I can better myself and not be a financial burden. Sure, I could charge the trip, but that only adds debt. I am hoping that with the care of my family, friends, and the kindness of stranger…

One of the biggest contributors I had with my obesity was watching TV. That entailed having to deal with all the commercials during the shows I liked to watch. Of course like many, I would take the opportunity during those commercials to spring up and raid the kitchen for food. (It didn't help that most of the commercials were about food and there were alot of commercials). Enter Tivo. (DVR) Originally the thought was I would be able to record shows when I wasn't home for watching later. However the real benefit is in the time delay with live TV. I can let the TIVO record ahead on live TV and then start watching it about halfway into the program. Th…

This is a shot in the dark for me. I can't post on my normal social media outlets to make sure someone doesn't try to ridicule. Has anyone here had personal experience with an imperforate hymen? Our 16 yr old daughter had emergency surgery to 'fix' hers and she is in quite a bit of pain and embarrassment. She keeps asking how long she is gonna be in pain....this is only about 48 hrs past surgery and she had pain of 7 out of 10 when I came home this afternoon. "I" have had knee surgery, 2 c-sections, hysterectomy thru my c-section scar, and the lapband. I 'know' how recovery is....however I cannot relate to her particular procedure. The surgeon said it is a lot like …

Hi, so I'm just 5 days post op, still having glucose levels around 200 without 2 of my meds. Still taking metformin. Will it stay up until I lose a certain amount of weight? They said the trauma of surgery could cause it but I'm just afraid it's my body.

This time the theme will be Jesus as the root, with us as the branches and the fruit that is the result of that relationship and will be the basis for the fill on my half sleeve. Here is what I have found so far. Thoughts?

Question: Is the saying "Once a cheater... Always a cheater" true? My situation: I am 36... Married with a 18 son & 17 year old daughter. I've been with my husband since I was 16 1/2 & him 21. After so many years of up & downs I found out that he was cheating- Three years into our relationship I caught him as well. I found out about this last relationship... And that's why I got sleeved. This Nov. will mark my yr. anniversary post-op. I had been thinking about WLS for yrs, but I finally had enough courage to it! I wasn't sure if he was going to leave me, therefore I would lose my health coverage. At that point when I found out... He wanted to leave & …

I Am scheduled for my sleeve 2/24/14 in Buffalo, NY with Dr. Cavaretta. My pre-op diet starts on Friday 2/14. I am definitely excited, but also very nervous. "You never know." I told my husband "just in case," I am going to write the kids a letter. We have 21 month old twins. They are my life!!! Anyways, my husband thinks I am crazy for writing them a letter and says I have nothing to worry about. I just keep telling myself "you never know."

I've noticed that I have really picked up with being interested in Weight Loss & Obesity related Television programming. Once I see something that I notice is going to be about these subjects, I set my DVR to record them. I'll even set a Series Recording to catch any repeats I may have missed coming into the show late. I find these topics absolutely fascinating, and I look to them for inspiration! I see folks weighing up to 400+ Lbs working out and working hard to lose the weight. I love this, and I laugh, I cry and feel their pain with them. For only someone who has been in their shoes can. Here's a list of shows I'm currently viewing: Biggest Loser:…

On January 4th, my sister found my beloved niece, age 24, dead.. Sammy was a rare, talented, wildly creative girl who left us a unique gift: a personal calendar in which she had created 365 holidays, one for each day of the year. These days reflect her creative spirit: sometimes ordinary, often funny( she could NOT spell), but always full of her poignant youth, I urge you to join us in celebrating a holiday everyday. Post your experiences or your own holiday. Write a poem. Live life. January 15 th Start a conversation w/ a stranger day!

My sister used to have the lap band. There were lots of things she couldn't eat. Apparently coconut is one of them. My aunt brought in two beautiful coconut cream pies. Lots of super sweet toasted coconut upon a cloud of perfectly browned meringue. We put one in the fridge and then placed the other pie between us on a table. I was sitting across from her and cut her and myself a huge piece each. I'm digging in making these orgasmic sounds as I'm eating. "Mmmm Mmm Mmm oh this is so good. Mmmmm"... you get the picture. I look at her plate and, poor dear, she had to miss out on enjoying the perfect deliciousness of the toasted coconut that was on top. She'd scrap…

How many calories are you taking in? I am almost one year out and I am trying to judge if I am on track with normal calorie consumption. I am taking in 1000 to 1200 calories a day. Is this too much, not enough?

I have some. I never knew I had them, though of course they must have always been there but now, they let themselves be known! I love them, even though they freak me out a little. I reach up to scratch an itch on my neck or rub my moisturiser in or adjust my bra strap and BOOM! I hit a W/T/F moment as my hand hits this weird, large, protruding bone! I haven't gotten used to it yet. I LOVE how I can see them now when I look in the mirror even if I am still unprepared for when I feel them sticking out like they do. Like they are meant to. An unexpected little NSV. Collarbones. I can sit here and play with them :-)

So great news and a problem... I've lost about 20 lbs so far and my engagement ring is getting really lose. I have about 50 more to go to get to my goal weight. Other than getting it resized often, what do you do to tighten your rings? When I was little I tied yarn around a few times but that gets a bit nasty when washing hands. I remember some metal thingy to clamp on there but I can't find it on amazon or eBay. Suggestions?
