Hello, I have been looking into getting back into yoga. I am only 2 weeks post-op and I am wondering when it would be appropriate to do yoga again? My surgeon said I could return to exercise just know ab work. Do you think that yoga can involve abs to much, would you just participate to your comfort level? Any thoughts? Anyone currently doing yoga? Jess

I've developed a night cough that accurs in the middle of the night and unaware of how it happened. I've had my band for almost a year now and havent needed an adjustment since December but recently have developed the cough in the middle of the night which is so forceful I sometimes vomit acid. I have had some bad acid reflex for a while now and than went out of the country recently where the cough developed and thought the cough was from the different food (especially since I had trouble with the food and often had to throw it up) but now that I'm back home I'm still getting the cough and worried it could be due to slippage. Any suggestions?

I won't lie... when I first got my lap band, like most people I was so excited to start my new life. I've lost and kept off 30 pounds... the problem is... I had the band 3 years ago. I never stopped drinking while eating and I KNOW not losing weight is MY OWN FAULT and NOT the bands. My problem is I'm so worried that I've done irrevocable damage. I last saw my surgeon a few months ago and all looked good on the baritric swallow.. I guess my worries are unwarranted but I've been eating like I would have before the band for so long I'm worried I can't start over.. Has anyone stopped and started again with good results? Hi banders- My husband and I are going though the process of getting the lapband done from Dr Chua. We each had our psych eval and one nutritionist visit (two more to go). We met with DR Chua this week to explain the surgery options. Following a low calorie diet from the nutritionist and that's going well. Love reading updates from people. Like to hear your stories.

Like when I do a search or when I log on, I see content from all of the forums and I'd like to limit it to just the lap band forums if that's possible. Anyone know if this can be done? And if so, how do I do it?

Kale is the new super food and I use a handful in my morning smoothie. I buy a big bag of baby kale from Costco and it takes up a full crisper drawer and goes bad before I use it all, so I took a new bag squeezed all the air out of the bag, put it in the freezer and when it was totally frozen transferred it to a smaller container. Now every morning I just grab a handful of the frozen kale and put it in the blender. No waste, no mess.

So far, I'm all set for June 25th. Started my Pre-Op diet yesterday. Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch, then for dinner, 6-8oz. chicken or fish, 1 cup of greens, 1 cup of fruit. First day was ok, but I couldn't get home fast enough to get that fish in the skillet! I'm so glad that last Saturday's fishing trip with my Dad went so well. We each came home with 10 Speckled Trout, so I'm stocked up with plenty of fresh fish. Anyone else getting banded on the 25th? Cheers, David

So a few months ago I started walking, then jogging, and now I am running. I typically run 3-5 miles three times a week. I am working on increasing my mileage and am planning on a half marathon this fall. I am finding that I am struggling to balance the banded life with the running life. Before runs you are supposed to eat foods high in carbs and lower in Proteins....but that goes against everything I have been doing to be a successful bandster. And my nutritionist wanted me at 1200 calories a day, but with my longer runs I get HUNGRY!!!! I am planning to go back to see her and talk about it. Is anyone else dealing with a similar problem? Any suggestions for me?

I started a thread yesterday about using food to self soothe when we are under stress. Now...I'm not talking about tricks to avoid things like head hunger...I'm talking about how to handle major stresses in our lives. I've seen posts from folks who've suffered the loss of a loved one, who are dealing with serious illness, who have issues with partners and/or children...major issues, not just day to day stuff, and many of these folks revert to overeating or eating poorly again and I was wondering what it is that we can do to deal with very stressful periods in our lives without reverting back to destructive food habits. Any suggestions? What works for you? Please feel free…

Well, my doctor now wants me to have a revision to RNY. I suffer from borderline achalasia. Luckily the lower part of my esophagus opens and closes correctly so I can have the surgery. If I had a full blown achalasia situation he couldn't do any surgery. I cannot have the vertical sleeve because of this though. I basically suffer from horrible acid reflux because my esophagus spasms really bad. I tried everything with the band and went in for fills every 3 weeks because he had trouble filling (under fluoroscopy) because my esophagus would not hold still. He has stated the band has failed. I am five years out. It's a long story as to why this was not caught earlier but suf…

It was need to see the x-ray part where I had to drink the barium swallow stuff and I could see it go into my stomach. I have a 10cc band. And they just put 2cc in. I dont feel much restriction. Is that normal? Im still able to eat, I was on 24 hour fluids after. Then today I ate and it wasnt that much. So is that what its suppose to do..Just make me want to eat less. I really gotta get the chew, chew, chew chew thing down. But Im not hungry..guess thats the point. Anyway..1st fill down..Many more to come. Lapbandchic73

I was hoping for wonderful (so to speak) restriction. I'm starving after 1-2 hours of eating. It's not lasting long at all and therefore I feel the need to snack all day. I'll bring Snacks to work such as the babybel cheese, yogurt, or even nuts. I'm just starving and nothing is working. I finally gave in and went to the vending machine at work. Are you guys going through this? Is the band working better for you? I've lost about 14 lbs post op in 6 weeks, so that's not too bad and I'm decently happy w…

I'm three months out and needing a boost. This is a predictable time for that -- the lead-up to surgery is so exciting and intense, then the learning curve, the early weight loss, etc. -- all of that keeps us pretty ramped up for a while. But then things settle down and it's time for some more motivation! Plus it's been a very long winter. I've been thinking about the next chunk of weight I can get off by the end of May. I have all the incentive I need, of course -- we all do -- but I guess I need a project that has a distinct time-frame. I've always been a deadline kind of person and while I don't have a certain weight I must reach by that time I do have fitness …

I am one month post op. Have been having hunger issues. I E-mailed my surgeon this morning and he wrote back telling me to drink plenty of liquids with my meals, "not to push the food down", but to help fill up. I could use some advice. I'm not sure if my band slipped. I've researched and I don't have any problems eating or keeping fluids down. I don't have pressure in the area. And when I press against my stomach in the area where the band is located, there is no pain. The only problem I am having is pain, kind of feels like a pulled muscle but its in the area located around the band. It started yesterday after I woke up. I experienced no pain until after I lifted my 18 month old. Now it hurts to lift either of my sons, at times after standing up and moving around I feel nausiated but its not nausiation from eating or drinking. Since I hit the green zone in early December, I can not tolerated carbs (specifically from bread/grains) AT all. Immediately, even after 1 bite, I feel like my chest is going to rip open and explode whenever I eat any type of high-carb food. Potatoes are bad, rice is really bad, and any type of bread/pasta is the WORST. I feel like I live off salads, but I don't usually have issues with raw veggies, so that's what I like. Does anybody else have this issue with bread/carbs? Sometimes I really would love a bite of a hot dinner roll or a little sliver of my husbands delicious homemade chicken and dumplings.

  28. Hi guys, I've been a banded for 7 years now, and had a 6 month hiatus of a de-fill with no restriction. I was ready to get back up again and have been going up in increments of 0.5 cc. I got a fill 4 or 5 days ago for a additional 1 cc and had little to no restriction. This is a big jump for me, and I thought I should have felt something, but nothing! Normally, I feel restriction right away and stick to Soups for the first two days until it sort of settles. This time, it was as if I had the same if not less restriction. The following day I was able to eat sushi, the same amount as my friend who doesn't have a lap band. Then day 4 or 5, I'm so restricted that I…

Dinner hmmm not usually hungry for dinner so I will either skip it or have light soup. I'm about 6.5 months post op and I'm starting to worry a bit about the reduction in bowel movements I've been experiencing. I'm completely aware that with reduced food intake, that it's perfectly natural to have smaller and less frequent movements. However, it seems I'm only going once every three days or so and would like to find some natural laxatives (or dietary changes) that would be band friendly to try that would get things moving a bit better. Does anyone that has experienced the same thing have any suggestions for me? Thanks!

My totally good looking surgeon (looks just like Chris O'Donnell) (not my type, but who doesn't appreciate a pretty face?) came in, he was happy I had lost 8 pounds since my last visit 3 weeks ago. He asked me a few questions about how much I was eating and if I was hungry between meals and we decided to go ahead and do a fill. Side note: I was told not to eat any solid foods for 3 hours before my fill. I laid on the table with a pillow under my back. He felt around on my stomach and then had me put my hands behind my head and do a crunch. He said I was gonna feel a pinch and inserted the needle. It stung a bit, but…

This topic is inspired by a post Carolina Girl made on her blog today. It was about people saying I can't. It reminded me once of something my dad told me his marriage counselor had said to him. I've carried it in my mind ever since. The quote goes: There is no "can't" for adults. There is only "I won't" or "I don't know how." Think about it. Either you just won't or you don't know how. Either do it or find out how. And my quote for this journey: Do something. Anything. Just do SOMETHING!

Up until then, I ate and drank right, and exercised 2-3 times a week. Never had an issue with my band, went for fills accordingly. After we were displaced for 10 mths, my mind and my routine went down the drain for the most part. Ate poorly, lack of Water, didn't exercise at all, and found I started having issues every few months with my band tightening up out of no where even when I was eating well. I would go back and get a little out, would do fine, and then weeks later again, back and forth. The doctor didn…
