I want to start blogging, but considering I haven't really told family or friends about my surgery...I feel odd blogging about it. At the same time, I want to share my experiences with like minded people...and help others along this journey. Plus, I feel it will keep me accountable. Those of you with blogs...is it worth it?

Hey y'all! I've been banded for a little under a year & at a total loss of 91 pounds. Yay! However, recently, I've noticed that I'm getting stuck a LOT more often than I did when I first got my band. Am I just eating too fast? Too big of bites? I do the normal things... Just feel stuck, start sliming (which is horrible!), and the good Lord willing, it will just come back up with little coaxing. Any suggestions or have any of you had this issue? Thanks!

I got a fill Friday, had no problems Friday or Saturday eating softer foods and following my rules. Had a rough night last night, which seemed like I could barely swallow my own saliva and I kept burping up vomit tasting acid...ewww! Probably the Hershey Drop I had before bed. (Yeah, bad I know!) Now today my stomach is VERY irritated. I could barely get down a cup of coffee. I don't want to be rash and run back to my doctors office to remove fluid. I'm hoping a day of all fluids will calm it down, if I can even manage that. I'm trying a heating pad on my stomach just for good measure. Anyone experience this, and/or have advice on things I can do to "un" irritate…

This 'trend' is growing in the international awareness arena. I learned long ago in grad school the physiological reasons "water" itself is far far better than any other Fluid, for our bodily processes. I also observed during my postOp Bandster experience, that plain Water was also very beneficial for a multitude of reasons. This brief article http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/drink-water-to-cut-obesity-health-experts-say-9562887.html gives a few point worth knowing about. They talk about the risk of weight gain using sugary drinks. I for one, suffered a host of adverse metabolic effects from the high-fructose corn syrup…

I am very frustrated with myself. I was banded oct 2009 and was down from 280lbs to 197 lbs in a year and 1/2. Weight crept back on due to personal and physical separate issues. I was back at 263 lbs last summer.... I've been trying to get back on track and am down to ~230lb. I am doing really well with exercise but my eating habits are not the best lately. I am hungry often and can eat more than I should be able to:( I'm getting upset and want to figure something out bc I am getting married July 2015!could my pouch have stretched and I should go on liquids for a week? I need some motivation and kick start again to get me 100% back on my game. It's almost as if I forgot h…

I am 7 years post op and just found out today that my band recently slipped (minor slippage with no esophageal issues) so they've removed all the liquid from my band and told me I can't start getting filled again for two months to allow the band to try to correct itself. I'm frustrated because at 7 years post op I have lost 70 pounds, gained 40 back (totally my own fault) and lost it again (doubly frustrating, I could be 40 pounds lighter than I am now!) I'm at a loss, I don't know what to do with myself, it's frustrating and depressing because I feel like I'm only sabotaging myself but at the same time I also feel like I'm not losing as much as I could be losing even w…

I will start with a little about me, as I am very new to this app I was banded nov.13th,2013. I found out I was pregnant nov.28th but unfortunately had a miscarriage on jan.10th,2014. I actually started my weight loss journey after that. I weighed in at 253.7 pre-op and today I am 218.4. It's a slow process but I am pleased so far however my hair is falling out like crazy! I do take biotin but it's not seeming to help- any ideas??

I'm not confident I've reached it so soon, but I may be dancing at or near the Green Zone. Those who are there, please describe how it feels over the course of a day. I'm feeling almost Red in the morning (often I can only eat a bite or two of egg), and Green at lunch and dinner (can eat a whole salad or three chicken strips or two small meatballs and then feel a soft stop). But sometimes I feel Red at dinner (pork gets stuck). Yellow if I eat a sandwich (all bread goes down easily, so I really have to limit it). My weight loss has been steady since my second fill three weeks ago (14 pounds). I average around 1000 calories a day. I never snack. I'm never…

I had my surgery on April 15, 2014, had my first fill 4 weeks later, then had a second fill 2 weeks after that. I have lost 17-18 lbs and I am stuck there. I know I am eating less than I had, but not sure how much I should eat. I can eat a small hamburger patty and cottage cheese, or a small salald. I have had things get stuck, so I am very careful to chew properly. I have not been eating bread, but can eat about anything else. I know I am eating less, but not losing. Ideas? Thanks,

Up until a week ago I was doing great with my hunger and lost 45 pounds in a little over two months. I passed on my first fill because of my progress, but I think I need one now. The scale has not moved in 3 weeks and I am starting to get hungry all the time. I go up a pound and then down but not past the 45 mark. I have my fill apt in June 26th so that makes me happy. A little scared to get a full but need to get my hunger under control.

So my surgery was on May 8 and my doctor doesn't believe in giving fills unless you are struggling to lose weight even though you're following the program or your satiety doesn't last long. so I haven't had a fill yet in almost two months. although I understand why he wants me to try to lose weight on my own I feel like if that had been possible I would've done that in the beginning and had saved myself from getting the surgery in the first place. I understand that the lap band is a tool but because it isn't filled I don't feel as though I'm able to use it as a tool to the fullest extent. Maybe I'm just whining but I feel pretty discouraged about it.

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself and join the group. I am 7 days post op and things are going good so far. I still have pain in my shoulders from the gas, but overall feeling ok. I am on full liquids and it's not really too bad. I get full easily enough. I do have to work on drinking more Water, although I've been drinking sugar free iced tea. I totally miss my diet dr. pepper though. That's going to be a hard one for me, giving up soda. I have one more week until I can eat mushie food and can't wait to be able to actually chew on something. So anyways, hi! I hope to get to know you all so we can really support each other on this journey. I have a few …

Hey guys. I am about 7 weeks post-OP and everything had been going very well until Thursday evening. I choose to wait an extra month before getting my first fill because I was going out if state for a reunion. I ate something that disagreed with me. I didn't eat too much or too fast, I think it was just some bad fruit or something. Anyway, that evening I got sick (of course was too far away from nausea meds) and vomited from below the band and ejected everything. Since then I've been scaling back to liquids but my stomach where I presume the band is, feels sore after eating and I feel a bit more gurgle and gassy with some nausea related to that. I have my first f…

Ok guys, what do you think? I'm 7 1/2 months out and I've only had 2 fills. I'm at the point now where I'm not loosing any more weight, and I'm eating somewhat bigger portions. I just got back from a weekend getaway and I'm up now 2 lbs. I've lost over 85 lbs so far. I feel like I'm also at a plateau even before the weekend getaway. My dr didn't seem to interested in giving me a fill 2 weeks ago when I was there with my hubby ( he's 1 month out postop Lapband) bc of the weight I've already lost. But I feel it's time for another fill. What about you guys, what do you think?

I am scheduled to have my Lap-Band placed this Friday, June 20, 2014. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been planning for and saving for this for so long and now it is finally here. I believe I am mentally prepared for all of the habit changes but I am nervous about whether I AM actually ready. Today I am three days pre-op so I started my liquid diet and I am already starving. Wish me luck!

I was told that I had 7.5 cc's in my band at true result Houston, not that they ever pulled it all out. My daughter is scheduled to be banded 6/27/14 by my physician, so he asks how I was doing and of course I told him that I had not lost any weight in over a year. I also started to gain weight recently, come to find out, he said that I'm not properly adjusted and that I only had 4.5 cc's in my band so he added 1cc that was too tight so he removed 0.5 cc's now I'm at 5cc and doing okay. The point is my doc says that if your are hungry before 1 pm than you are not adjusted correctly. The be in the green zone you should have not hunger under 1pm or after. Who would have kno…

I have been looking for shift and A line dress patterns for summer sewing. This is what I found, in 1960, the measure chart on the back of the pattern package has me wearing a size between a 12 and-14 with my measurements taken yesterday. Size 12-14 On the Macys size chart for the same style dress with my measurements as of yesterday (2014), I should wear a size 2-4. What do you think about this? My first thought was the FB post someone sent about Marilyn Monrow being a size 12, the "average size of the modern American woman...uhhh nooooo! Her average size would be a 2-3 in today's sizing! Holy cow! Do you know how skinny they were back in the day??

I had band surgery in August 2013, had a fill in the first month and then another 2 months later. Once I had my second fill I struggled to keep food down. Went to my local doctor ( my band surgeon is 1200 kilometres away), she sent he for blood tests. Iron was extremely low as was B12, put me on weekly injections but levels didn't improve. Went back to my local doctor and she insisted that I needed to have fluid removed. She sent a fax to my surgeon trying to get me in immediately, I called the surgeon to be told he didn't work that day, however I could see a local GP who had the ability to adjust me band. He took all the fluid out 6ml to see what was there, he put 5.5 ba…

So I was banded on march 10th 2014. I've lost weight every month, but it's been all me - no restriction in the band yet. Then I got another fill june 18th. Knowing that I'm getting close to finally feeling some restriction I've been extremely careful and paying attention. I now know immediately if I take one more bite I'll be sorry. When that happens I stop eating and get the hiccups. Im not stuffed, I'm not hungry. Im just not hungry if that makes sense. I've timed it and even after 3-4 hours I'm still not hungry. Could I possibly be close to that mystical green zone? It sure feels like it.

Just wanted to post on the main forum a big thank you to the folks who came out yesterday and made our first BariatricPal Support Group a great success. Thanks as well to Lisa for her dedication and organizational skills. And thanks to Alex for attending and giving us a great insight into what it means to live a normal, regular life as a person who had WLS. I must say that I'm truly inspired by all of you. Here's a picture of Lisa and me with the wonderful poster she and her husband Ken made. The poster itself is a work of art, and the pictures on it, also works of art in terms of living healthier lives.

I started my journey at 33 years old, weighing 289lbs on a 5'1" frame, and looked like I had no neck or eyes:-) My blood pressure was 180/98. This surgery was my ONLY hope because without it I knew I was only going to get bigger and the healthy issues more severe. So, One year ago today I remember checking into the surgerical center and waiting to be called back for my surgery; I was nervous as hell and wondering if I was making the right decision. Well today, 1 year later, I'm confident I made the right decision and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!!! This has truly been a life changing experience for me on so many different levels. I'm definitely not th…

Hi everyone!! I had my surgery July 31st 2013. It had been a slooooooow go and I've lost about only about 30lbs so far. I did miss a few months of appointments though. I am finally back on track and went for another fill today, I currently only have 2.5cc so the band hasn't really started working for me 100% yet. It's been a struggle. Anyway I usually never have an issue when I get my fills but today the new PA found my port she felt it but couldn't get the needle in for the fill. I'm confused why this happened? After poking me for 30 min and 4 diff needles she gave up. I have to go tomorrow for a more experienced person to do it. Has anyone ever had this issue? I can un…

So I had my first fill today! 3cc in my 10cc band! All morning I felt great! Before I left I made sure I could drink water and it went down fine.... but now about 7 hours later I keep spitting up foam! And can't keep the water down! And not just a little foam/spit; I literally filled two empty water bottles because I had nowhere else to spit it! I'm so thirsty and just feel so much pressure, do I need to have some taken out!? I was a month away from having the band and got pregnant. :/ so now that im mot anymore Im back to it (: I just have to do the dietician visits for 3 months and wait for my insurance to approve! Im so excited to have this!!! I have been overweight my whole life and I cant express how happy I am to be doing this. I feel I will finally be fully happy. My body gets me down quite a bit when I get dressed and see my back fat and all my fat hanging over. Its so embarrassing. I've worked out and ate right and nothing has worked. !!!!!! I was banded on 1/16/14 and have lost 42 lbs...and I was so upset with myself that it wasn't more...but then just the other day 6/17/14 I finally learned something that made me realize ignorance can really be a hiccup in this WL Journey. I have read on here so many folks that didn't get much of an education about what they were getting into and although I thought I was on the right track before/after my surgery...I learned there is still so much to learn. We all know our journey's are so individualized and that not everyone will be the same as everyone else. So my first lesson was to realize...that I wasn't going to lose weight the same way and Jane or John Doe was going …

All hail its power! Three months after having my band unfilled, this morning was the day! It could not get here fast enough. All my old behaviors around food were circling the wagon, just waiting for my willpower to break. Three months, while not long in the scheme of things, felt so very long for me. But what a reminder of how powerful the band is--three months without any restriction and my mindset was right back to that of a non-surgical weight loss patient: always thinking about food, counting hours between meals, ability to eat anything in any amount and trying desperately not too...and sometimes failing and feeling horrible at being so weak-willed. The radiolo…

First- What exactly is sliming? Also, How do you know you need a fill or just need to adjust eating? I have not had a fill in about 6 weeks. I have been losing about 2lb a week ( except for our 2 week cruise where I did not gain!!), and things are slowing down to about a lb. a week. I have not been following any real quantity rules, because I have only been told to eat Protein first, then greens, then carbs. I was told my band would basically limit me to 3/4c or so per meal. And I am so tight in the morning that all I can get down are liquids, or carb loaded things that dissolve very quickly. Protein comes back up every time. lunch is about a 3/4c limit. But I have al…

I need help. I got a small .25cc fill last Tuesday and I'm not sure if I'm too tight now or if something is stuck. I called my doctor and they wanted me to try and wait to see if it's something stuck if it will pass. I went and got papaya enzymes to try but I'm not sure how long it suppose to take to start working or how many to take? Any help would be appreciated.

I am still a very new lap band baby. I was just banded on 5-12 and I am already making big mistakes and needed a mentor to help me understand things. I am not looking for approval to do what ever I want. I made that mistake by eating real food when I am supposed to be on mushy. I have no concept of time. really I do. I need someone to say to me STOP THAT! Do it this way, I am scared I messed my band up because I had real food at this stage. I don't want to have another surgery, I fell like a looser right out of the gate. since my first follow up appointment with the doctor that was the Friday after my surgery. I have not lost one pound, Anyone want to try to help me? …

Hello! I had LB and was very successful with it for years. Although, I had to get it opened in the spring and fall for a couple months each due to allergies/serious post nasal drip causing issues. I was very sick last year (unrelated) and ended up with a hernia etc. Long story short, LB was removed (not sure it should have been). Due to all my issues, I am not sure I want the LB again bc I am frankly sick of being used and a pin cushion (again was not related to LB but was bad 8 months) and just hyper sensitive. Thus, I looked into as cleared to have GS. I am so confused and frustrated. One side says LB is better bc can always be adjusted and that G…

Hi, I have a question. I had the adjustable lap band surgery back in 2010 and only had one fill. We then retired and moved to New Mexico and I failed it find a doctor here to do the fills. This was my fault as I was loosing weight and then just didn't look for a doctor. Now I want to get back on tract and get a fill. Is it too late? Will I have. To start over? Any advise or. Has anyone had a similar problem? Appreciate any feed back.

Hi all. I was given the ok-go for solids a week ago but am experiencing pain when I eat. It is almost like too much gas is near my ribcage. I only feel good doing liquids. My band has no cc's yet, so I don't know how much irritation is going on but I am still afraid. Anyone else experience pain? Even drinking too much causes it.

For some of us we are a month out and I was wondering how is it going. I started solids mid week but still tend to go for the softer types of food. People well ask me what can I eat and I always respond with what ever I want, as this is a tool not a diet program and the key aspect of this tool is portion control. I was on a great exercise routine but my back issues have started to flare up the past few days and its making me miserable with pain. Otherwise everything else is going great with the band!!
