I need to put exercise back into my daily routine. My goal is to take baby steps until I exercise becomes second nature. I have a Fitbit and my goal is to get to 10,000 steps daily. Would anyone like to join me? I need to be held accountable.

So, I am a little over two weeks out from my surgery dated July 29th. I've discovered and documented a wealth of information. This board has become my best friend my "google" if you will. So there are some things that are pretty standard like initial pain, swelling, diets, etc. I would love to know what is something you wish you had know before you started your journey. I know it's kind of corny but for the newbies here these nuggets of wisdom are valuable. Thanks in advance.

Hey folks, Long story short: had my surgery in 2005, was the model patient...lost all my weight and more..then kept going. I ended up with a raging eating disorder that needed treatment. They took all the fluid out of my band in 2006/7. After fully recovering, I eventually started gaining weight eating "normally." Now were in present day and I just had my first fill in many many years. It's totally different than before. I did liquids/mushy stuff and now I'm on solids. I wouldn't call what I have "restriction." I have wiggle room. I could eat a bit more if I wanted to and i haven't gotten anything stuck at all...I'm just not interested. It's like the fill have me normal …

I am 238 re-re-started.... : ( ......at 250. Curious to know how much weight I lose at first will only be water weight? Is there some formula or method of knowing what is at least close to how much you lose that is water weight? Or a basic time frame for how long the loss will be water weight?

Many of us have names for our bands/ports (my band is GingerSnaps) because that beeeetch would quickly snap me into shape if I try to deviate. LoL. I'm wondering if anyone has a name for the process of getting a fill? (If not, it's time you get one) I call mine: "getting baptized" "Tomorrow I'm leaving early. I'm getting baptized" "I'm soooo glad I got baptized last week, I've already lost three pounds!" GO!

Help please I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 10 days per my doctor. However I somehow messed up identifying my start date so now I will be fasting 9 days and I'm concerned since I missed a day. My doctor said 10 was plenty since I wasn't as big as most of his patients. I'm 5 ft 4 in and weigh 215. Will that skipped day hurt my chances of not being able to have surgery?

I'm sure this has been asked on here, but I'm not finding it....I just got my first fill a week ago, and have been on liquids for the first 2 days...then mushies for 2 days. The problems start when I try to eat anything solid. I chew and chew...swallow and get swollen. Now even mushies hurt to swallow. I keep going back to liquids for most of the day. I'm frustrated because prior to the fill I was able to eat about 1 1/2 cups of food...and was full for 4 hours. I could eat dense protien and vegetables. Now all I can seem to handle is protien shakes, and that's due to swelling I get when I attempt normal food. So! Question is, am I too tight, or is it too early …

Hi everyone. I have another group on Facebook that is a Bariatric Friendly page. It's memebers vary with by-pass, sleeve, DS & band. The group is very supportive of one another no matter which surgery you have had. This gentleman was banded a year ago and has only lost 65lbs (which I think is great). He is greatly discouraged by his slow weight loss and was asking for some support and advice on how to kick start his losing again. People were offering suggestions. I told him he was doing great and what was working for me. Also suggested he contact his nut & doc to see if they could help. Anyway this other guy ( I think is sleeved) had the nerve to tell Daniel…

My first fill I had 2.5 ml and I felt zero restriction and my second was 1.5 ml about 10 days ago an at first I felt some restriction and now none. What dos that mean? I am def able to eat more than I should. Help?

I was banded two years ago and was so excited about the program as were two of my friends who were banded about the same time. Each of us lost about twenty five pounds in the first couple of months, but none of us lost any more weight over the last two years! None of us have gained any weight either but just plateaued at twenty five pounds loss and stayed there. There are no support groups in our area so we tried to support each other. We are now going back over all of the information to see how and if we can start over and be more successful at losing weight. It is both exciting and depressing to see all of the many people who have been banded and have lost enough w…

Can someone tell me, besides losing hair, what are some of the symptoms of not enough protein? I struggle to get mine in because the higher the protein content, the more nauseous I get. My band only has 3cc in it and I'm not very restricted yet. However I can't seem to get much protein. Anyone else have this problem? I was banded May 6th.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post as I went to the surgeon today for a barium swallow to make sure everything is fine. It was at 6cc in a 10cc band. He put in another .5cc under fluoroscopy but after looking at the barium going through decided to take out .125 so I am now at 6.375 ish. He said that it's unlikely I can fill it up anymore as it was going through too slowly on 6.5 and to go back in 12 weeks instead of the usual 6. I don't know why but I feel really sad. Is this my green zone? I feel a bit like I've had six months training and now being put out into the great wide bariatric world to crack on. I think part the reason why I feel sad and scared is if this fi…

My band slipped and I had to get the all the fluid removed . I was experiencing discomfort with my band. It started with the late night vomiting. I really nervous about this, but know I did the right thing about letting my doctor know how I felt.I just hope I can maintain my weight. I feel really vulnerable right now.I will have to go back in 4 weeks for another Endoscopy.

I had a fill yesterday and I had a not so good day. I was not able to eat or drink. I had so much acid reflux and had to sleep sitting up. The fill may be too much. So I decided I would wait one more day just to see if it is just swelling or my band is too tight then go back to see my Dr for a little unfill. Today I am just on liquids.

I am 12 lbs from my goal. I was losing about 8-10 lbs per month and then, suddenly, I've lost nothing for the last month. I understand that stalls happen and things are going to move slowly being this close to goal anyway. However, I expected to at least be losing a few lbs a month. For those who have been through this, how did you manage to get those last 10-15 lbs off? Anyone have any suggestions?

I am super confused as to what is going on with my body. I had a small fill 5 1/2 weeks ago. I was losing steady up until then, about 2 lbs a week. Then it all came to a stop. Not only did I stop losing weight now I am gaining weight. I was exercising a little more, but dehydrated myself. Back taking in my fluids, but now I am really hungry. I could eat a side of beef and a thanksgiving turkey dinner (Yes, all in one sitting). I have no idea what is going on. I didn't even think about food prior to that fill, now I am counting down the time to my next scheduled feeding. I am counting my calories, upping my Water and making sure I get my Protein in where am…

I have a question, just to see if anyone has experienced anything similar so I won't be worrying myself to death. Tuesday (6/17/14) I had my Breakfast and my lunch with no issues. I ate a tad bit too much at lunch, but not so much that I was miserable or sick. But, when I tried to eat dinner that night, I had excruciating pain and vomited hard for several minutes. Since then, I can't eat solid food. I don't have any problem with liquids, but even cottage cheese hurts going down (though it is tolerable). I also have swelling on my stomach where the band area is (it's right under my sternum). I have gotten this when I've eaten too much (rarely) or after each fill. However, …

I had my l band fitted a year ago this month. (Privately) After my surgery the support I was given from my surgeon was great, I spoke to the nutritionist once a week. After my 3rd fill that was it I haven't spoken heard anything from my nutritionist, I have tried to get in contact a few times regarding different things. She had put me on a diet that she set out and I didn't lose any weight. I'm not blaming them for me not losing because at the end of the day I know it's down to me but I'm still learning and I felt like they just dropped me after I had give them my money. Does anyone know of any good nutritionists that work with the band or any good advise?? Thanks in …

So I am 3 months in to my lapband, I have had 3 fills so far. My question is I am taking in on average 843 calories and putting out over 4000 a day. I take in over 60 grams of protein and eat veggies quite a bit. I feel great but can get hungry, is my intake to low compared to my output? What should be my calorie intake if my output is over 4000 a day? I exercise every day of the week doing a minimum of 7 mile running/walking.

Hey everyone! I'm sure someone has already posted this interview, but just in case you haven't picked it up yet there is an astounding interview on Weight Loss Surgery Podcast hosted by Reeger Cortell that interviews Dr. John Dixon. Dr. Dixon is a researcher and professor in Australia. His name crops up in a lot of WLS related research papers a lot, and he has some interesting findings to share, some which hasn't quite caught up to common practice here in the states. For those what wish to listen to the podcast in its entirety it's available here: food from traveling through the stomach at normal speed and how it isn't true. And uses trial studies that showed no delay o…

Just didn't have any other place to share this, and I knew of all the places in the world, you all would know what to comment. Today hubby took me and our daughter to the beach. She was playing in the sand with some other kids, and hubby (size medium) and I were chatting, side by side on the beach towel. My daughter yells, "MOM!!! This boy just called you fat!!" I was so shocked that I didn't even know what to say. (I haven't been called fat in a long time because I've been doing so well with my band!) I was immediately taken back to my middle school self and felt so ashamed and embarrassed. I just said (because I was so flabbergasted) "Why would he even be talk…

I am getting my third fill tomorrow. Most of the time, I still feel the same hunger and cravings I had before my lap band surgery. The doctor told me it may take me to the third or fourth fill to get to the green zone. Is this considered normal. For all accounts , I cannot tell I have had surgery. I was banded back in 2009 and have done well with it. had lost a total of 70 lbs at one point. I had a problem with my band about 2 years ago and had to have all the Fluid removed. which then I gain about 50 lbs back. I was eating everything and anything - not good. I have been in the process of getting back to my sweet spot but keep having problems. I get a fill - eat my liquids and then my softs and then on to solids and everything is fine ... then about 2 weeks in I get to were I can't keep any thing down but a little bit of liquids so I have to get a un-fill. Hello everyone! I am scheduled to have my lap band surgery in July. I believe I am insulin resistant because of the dark pigments under my arms and behind me neck (Acanthosis nigricans). I'm hoping the lap band diet will be beneficial in getting rid of this or at least lessening it. Has anyone else experienced this? And are there any tips you can offer in regards to meal plans?

So, I went for a follow up at my orthopedic surgeon this morning. The nurse calls me in and is pleasant but not that friendly which surprises me as she is usually very warm and fuzzy. Then she pulls up my chart, looks at my picture, and realizes who I am. Only then does she become herself again. She didn't even know who I was till she saw my chart. Then the surgeon walked in and he's a very direct person so all he did was look at me and say that I got skinny. No fuss, no muss. I guess I do look skinny compared to what I used to look like. This is happening alot lately...an awful lot. So much so that I wonder just how freaking fat was I? Obviously very fat since no one …

General question, since my last fill to 6cc in a 10cc band I have found myself sliming and sometimes bringing back up the food in the pouch (is this a pb?) to alleviate all the slime. It's happened 2 time in the last week. Afterwards I am fine, no pain, can eat foods inc hard Protein when chewed well with no issue. Obviously I don't want to have slipped. I have an appointment next week for a fluoroscopy to check everything is fine. However I am curious how often, if at all, this happens for others? Has my band slipped, or am I just rushing it? Personally, the times it's happened was once on bread and second on chicken. Both if which I have now eliminated from my diet to a…

Surgery was on April 1st and so far I have lost 51 pounds. I have had 1 fill and have 2cc in a 10cc band. I can eat anything with no issues, but choose not to eat bread, rice, pasta or bad carbs. I have really not lost anything in 4 weeks but can tell I am losing inches. I just started working out and get at least 40 minutes in 5 times a week. I eat around 1200 calories a day but it is broken down into 4 or 5 meals. I don't go 4 hours without eating. Any advice on if I should get a fill would be great. Thanks.

Hi Everyone, so I'm new to this site. I've been banded since July 16th. I'm still on thick liquids, but have been testing out the waters. Grapes are a no-no, unless I smoothie them. But I do like strawberry-banana smoothies made at home. On Wednesday, I start soft-foods, not sure what those are, but I'll give it a go. Add me, if you want to keep in touch.

This question is for other women banders. I've read a lot of women feel tightness during the time of month. This is opposite for me. The week before I feel SO hungry all the time. I'm also able to eat a lot more. It is obviously hormonal but I would think I would feel more restriction from swelling and bloating. The week after is when I feel restriction again. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it likely head hungry from hormones. In the past I usually gain several lbs in the week of so I'm not surprised I'm feeling this way. Was hoping I would feel tighter though:( my last and first fill was during that time as well so I think I'm going to avoid fills during that time …

Hello all. I'm 9 months out from surgery. I had my fifth fill on June 25th so I'm at 6.50cc. I seem to be one, like others I've read about here, who can only get down a protein shake in the morning, something mushy for lunch, and most times, a cup of food at dinner. What I've been doing while at work is making one of those cup of noodle things but I pour off all the liquid (and, hopefully, all of the sodium) and just have the noodles for lunch. I often hear people say they can't eat pasta but I can, though I am careful to just have the one cup size for lunch. For dinner, it's often a crap shoot as to what and how much I can eat. Sometimes, I can have a good sized salad wi…

I have some friends who are recovering heroin addicts (yes I used to float with the "bad crowd", no I never personally got into it, I had other addictions, food being one of them.) I was visiting with a few of them for a couple days and I told them about my low carb diet and they tried to say things like "oh just one slice of pizza wouldn't hurt". I told them that was like saying "oh just one bag of heroin wouldn't hurt and you wouldn't become addicted all over again." They got my point but one of them said to me "don't tell me your food addiction is the same thing". Well no its not the exact same but they are both addictions that are extremely hard to overcome. Chances o…

I was banded in December and have done really well with following the rules and doing everything the "right" way. I've also been really good about making good food choices, avoiding junk, exercising, and just following a healthy lifestyle. Until now. I've been on vacation for the last week and I've eaten like a pig. I've eaten tons of junk, even candy and cake . I weighed in this morning and I'm up 2 lbs. I know some of it is probably Water retention but I'm sure some of it is true weight gain and I am kicking myself for allowing that to happen . So last night I decided that, starting today, I'm going to do liquids only for a few days to help get me back on track and …
