Has anyone successfully "fixed" a mildly dilated esophagus? My quick story - banded in 2007 - lost over 100 lbs easily (100% of excess). 2 years later pregnant with my first first and gained a ton when fill removed, lost 1/2 within one year so at this point total weight loss about 60lbs from surgery date. Got preg with second gained again but not as much but in the 2 years following had a very hard time getting my restriction back. I was diagnosed with minor dilation of the esophagus about 6 months ago. I had fill removed and just had an upper GI and was told by the radiologist that my estophogus is back to normal. My questions is has anyone successfully lost after h…

I'm one week post-op and I'm still excited, still hopeful. I've been hungry, but reading on this forum and connecting with people really seems to help me know that I'm not alone. I lost 24 pounds on my pre-op diet and since surgery have lost another 3 pounds. I don't think I've weighed this since just after high school and I'm ecstatic! I'm just still figuring all of this out and would love any tips/tricks that anyone has come up with lately or if you're a veteran and have some insight to what to expect- I would greatly appreciate it! I have my first post-op appointment next Thursday and I'm nervous. Thanks!

Had my band removed 8/19/14 it was placed 11-12-12. I did fine with it for a few months then it was so right I couldn't swallow my spit went to ER and ever since then my body has not felt right. Had to go through hoops and tons of testing to find out there is nothing wrong with my band. Yet I felt horrible all the time I would vomit after a couple of bites no matter what it was. All the Drs I have seen treat me like a failure and say I only want it out to eat more. That is not the case but they do not believe me that I really did not feel good. One day after having it removed I feel such relief! The surgeon did not come and see me and tell me anything if she found anythin…

My surgeon's office lets me drink liquids up to my first bite of my meal and then no drinking for 20 -30 minutes afterwards. If you don't drink before your meal, what is the reason? I actually try to drink a glass of Water before I start eating so I'm not thirsty during my meal as well as to "fill up" a little. Is it counterproductive? Just wondering what the reason is for no liquid before. Thanks!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had a leak in their Port/Tube? I went to my doctor today, and he realized my band was leaking. I have to go next week for a study to see where it is leaking. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this before, and had it replaced? What was it like? Was recovery anything to be concerned with? I didn't get much info from my doctor today, but figured if anyone here could help me out, that would be great! Jacki

I had my first fill on Saturday. It didn't hurt very bad at the time. However, since last night I've been having pain near where the port is. It feels like muscle pain, kind of like after surgery. When I sit up or stand up it hurts, and it also hurts when I bend over. Is this normal, or should I call my surgeon?

At the age of 33 I hit my all-time highest weight of 289lbs., supported on a 5’ 1” frame, I felt hopeless, miserable and ashamed. Before packing on all this weight, I had always been a positive, happy person full of life; I was always proud of who I was and didn’t care what others thought of me, but my weight started taking all that away from me until I no longer recognized or liked the person I had become; I was embarrassed for my husband and my kids to be seen with me, but it wasn’t until after a trip to the Dr. that I came to the realization that my weight was affecting more than just my appearance and attitude, it was affecting my health. I knew right then that I h…

Hi everyone. My last fill was 6 weeks ago and brought me to 9.5 in a 14cc band. At the time of the last fill my Dr tried up to 9.75 but after seeing that Water wasn't going down ,he took out .25. Since then ive been losing around 4 lbs a week 23 pounds since last fill. Last week I noticed how I was starting to eat a lot more, way more than 4 oz. I would say closer to 10oz. Well this week has been different , because 2-3 hours after I eat Im hungry all over again and can eat as if I hadn't had a meal two hours before. Does it make sense that after losing 20-25 lbs, your band needs to be tightened to stay in the green zone???? I would really like to keep the weight loss goi…

I have been struggling for the last 6 months. My OBGYN was changing up my Meds that messed with my hormones and caused bloating which made the band too tight. I got a full cc taken out in May to get some relief. Of course I gained weight after that. I went in July and got 0.6 cc put back in. Then last week I had 0.3cc put in. I feel like I'm perfect now. Like perfect. Here's the problem. I'm flying from Phoenix to Detroit Oct 4. My dr has said you should get fluid taken out before flying. I don't want to because my insurance sucks and it's $75 each visit for a fill. So I would need to go out to fly then back in when I come back. That's expensive. Is it possible to fly and…

I have thought I had this before but my dr verified that I did not. He said I had the same amount each time he checked, right before he filled me. The last full he gave me was about 1.75 ccs. I should have had over 11ccs. I knew I didn't because I was very hungry and gaining weight. I went to a different dr who measured only 8.5 In my band. He also told me I couldn't have a leak because I would have lost a lot or all of the Fluid if I did. He said he was sure I didn't have a leak. I'm now confused. I guess I have to wait til next month to be measured again. Any one else experienced this??

Hi everyone, I had surgery 5 days ago and today I had a small piece of chicken (approximately 2-3 ounces) and now I am freaking out reading that if you eat solids too soon you could ruin your surgery and need surgery again. I chewed very slowly and only ate that piece but now I'm about to cry because I'm scared. I am not in any pain, I just feel full. Please, give me your opinions.

I've had my band since January 30, 2014, and have had 5 fills so far, each .5ccs. I'm at around 5 to 5.4 ccs in my band, and it's not keeping me satiated for more than 2 hours at a time. The only time that I can go over 4 hours between eating is if I eat a meal with lots of Protein that's around 350-400 calories. I'm trying to stay below 1,500 calories, and drink between 64-80 oz. of Water every day. I'm writing everything down and counting protein grams, but I'm still at a serious plateau. My weight will not budge. I spoke to my clnic yesterday, and the skinny nurse told me the same thing as always, to eat small high protein meals, and they will eventually get me in …

Or, I can also say "You never know" OR "What Motivates You".... First, I am almost 63 years old....on Facebook I belong to groups from my hometown, also there is a group comprised of our H.S. Class of 1970 - A spin off of that is a "Memorial" page, where people from our hometown, the same era, have passed away...I know, it's depressing to say the least to read the list of names of people you grew up with that are now gone. In the last few weeks, there have been 3 names added to that page, one I read just a little while ago. A woman 6 years younger than me. Thinking about mortality, one never knows....I look at the pictures of some of the guys I knew that have pas…

Hello everyone I'm new here! My name is Krystal. Im 25 and I've struggled with my weight my whole life! I've been 140 pounds all the way to 305. I'm tired of the battle of obesity and ready to take charge of my life once and for all. If my body doesn't have the energy and I myself don't have the emotional strength to do it I want to force it to lose weight with medical help. I've heard how hard is it to just push yourself away from the table? Or stop eating when your full. Ones that haven't battled something like this before just doesn't understand! For those that don't mind can you please guide me in the direction I need to take? The type of doctor I need to go to, ho…

It has been 2 years since my band placement. So, I go in for my last fill, and the woman tells me, "You know you are never to eat on days that you fly. never ever". So I am like, well no one has EVER told me this before and guess what, I have been a flight attendant for 20 years! I fly every week for 3 days straight. She goes on to tell me that she is aware of another flight attendant that is switching from the band to sleeve because she "is having so many problems". I don't know what to make of this. Granted I haven't been really successful with my band because I wasn't filled enough for over a year, hence the reason I went in for the recent fill. I am now trying to …

HELP! I'm feeling discouraged with the process of my weight loss and close to loosing my mind. I had my surgery on January 17, 2014...my first fill wasn't until the end of Feb or beginning of March. I have 8cc in my band (not sure what size band I have, I'm afraid to ask cause I'm getting close to 10 cc and then what happens if a 10cc band is what I have) I have only lost 50 lbs so far...one of my questions is, what is "normal" for the amount of pounds lost in a week for a lap band person? I keep thinking that if a non banded person only ate 1200 calories, they would be losing weight faster than I am My head is being hard on me right now and telling me I am failing,…

Why is it when you first get a fill, the band feels tight and you have to pay particular attention to what and how you eat and then gradually, before your next fill you're able to eat less....carefully. Does that make sense? I've just had my 3rd fill and it seems every month towards my fill date, food goes down easier. Why is this since the band doesn't get looser?

I've been banded for a little over 3 months with no fills, but losing weight. I'm just not that hungry any more. In the last week, my band feels 'tighter", but I haven't had a fill. hi all. i went to the information session last night fully decided on the band and they made it seem like it wasn't the best choice, how it's fallen out of favor. i was wondering what made y'all decide on the band instead of the other procedures. it seems to me, from this forum, that band are successful if managed well and person does what they are supposed too. i had not wanted something so invasive, but now i guess i am second guessing. my surgical consult isn't until Sept 17th.

Hey guys, I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue. I got banded in March 2012 & the first 18mos were fine as far as weightloss, exercise and energy. I started getting sick in Fall 2013 after a fill that took me over 5cc. They took Fluid out and I was alright for about a month or so. By February of this year I was regularly having problems holding solids and liquids down so I wasn't getting my calories in that I needed and plateaued on weightloss. They checked my band and supposedly it wasn't tight and looked "kind of" loose. So they took fluid out and I swear it expanded from the last time (I remember the CC numbers). I was okay for about 2 weeks and it star…

I am 4 years out from my band and have been really struggling. I have gained back about 30lbs. I'm trying hard to get back on track but just need some help. I'm having trouble figuring out how many calories I need to eat and when I need to eat. I still have it in my head that I need to eat at certain times and not necessarily when I'm actually hungry. I just made this this morning and remembered how much I missed it. This is my step mom's recipe. 1lb shrimp- cooked, peeled, chilled 2-3 stalks of celery chopped Dill- chopped (I use dill singles, used to taste) Lemon (about 1/4 lemon ) Mayonnaise (1-2 large scoops) Salt and pepper to taste Combine ingredients and enjoy this is great by itself, on a roll (if you are able to eat rolls) or on a bed of romaine!

I had my surgery in Oct 2013 at a place where Kaiser Permanente sent me because at the time, they didn't have bariatric surgeons on staff. I followed up with the surgeon for 6 visits. I have 6.50cc in the band (or so I thought). Kaiser is now sending me to their own bariatric surgeon now that they have one. My first visit with him was today. I've been vomiting, so I know I needed to have some Fluid removed. At the original surgeon's office, I had 6.25cc in June and he added .25 so we thought I had 6.50cc in there. Well today, the new Dr removed all of the fluid just to make sure that I did have 6.50cc. He was going to remove some so I'd be somewhere in between 6.…

I'm going for my band in two days time and I start college next week. I just read about flatulence being a side effect of the band. I'm already a human trumpet, fighting to stay silent and it'd be really embarrassing if I was to get even worse sitting in a quiet group setting. I think I'd literally leave the country. I read about probiotic pearls but I'm not sure if you can get them in Ireland. Can anyone recommend anything?

Should I get a bit more put in? Any advice would be helpful!!!
