I just need to vent to know everything will be ok...So I just broke down, started crying to my mom, I am having a hard time literally drinking liquids, my stomach has "woken up" and my hunger pain is making my healing process very uncomfortable. She reminded me that this is what I signed up for and I 100% agree, however, I feel like this part is torture and how am I going to make it another week, let alone until I reach my green zone ? I know most of it is mental with cravings but these hunger pains are real and I'm going to have another mental breakdown if I don't eat my mush soon! Please any input would be appreciated on what liquids would help me stay Fuller longer bes…

I'm on my fifth month of pre-op dieting/nutritionist, as required by insurance, how bad is the pain after surgery and how long does it take to feel normal and be able to return to normal regiment? I guess I'm getting a lil nervous and cold feet.

I am not going to eat any. I know that. It is still hard, I am still hungry, tired and grumpy. We have had a guest all weekend and I have not fallen off the cart. I had a big plate of broccoli at the restaurant last night. It was kind of funny to see the look on the waitress's face when I asked for broccoli for my dinner. I hope the next 5 days go quick. C'mon April 5th, I am ready for the next step!

A few days ago I went and got a fill and saw the fake stomach with the band to show the patients. And the pouch was SOOO SMALL!! My dr says to only eat 1cup(4oz of Protein 1/2 cup veggies) but to me 1 cup seems like WAY to much? Does anyone else think that? Recently started freaking myself out about stretching my pouch. Yay me... -BriannaXOXO

I have had my band for about 4yrs, and I love it, but I had to have knee surgery about 6mths ago and had to be put on all kids of inflammatory meds, and pain meds...about 3 days after surgery I could not eat, so i called my doc and he had me come in and took some fluid out...Well since then I have been having the most horrible pain in my upper abd, the pain goes all the way across the front and when really bad can go around to my side...I have been taking carafate and nexium, I am at the point you might as well put a straw in the bottle of carafate...My doc seems to think it is an ulcer.....still have some fluid but I dont feel any restrictions, im not nauseas, and i can …

Can anyone share with me the protein shakes you use in the morning prior to workouts? I am unable to eat anything in the morning (too tight-my doctor is aware)so I have been drinking the EAS Advantage shakes in the morning, but they are only 17 grams of protein each. Any better suggestions?

I just wanted to share a couple of small victories I've had the past few days. First the scale...I'm officially under 250lbs...249.4 to be exact, but it's been under 250 for 2 days so I'm saying it's official Next, I have a huge pile of clothes sitting at the bottom of my closet from when I lost weight 2 years ago (almost 80lbs)...I was planning on ebaying those clothes because I honestly didn't believe I'd ever wear them again. Wellll, Sunday I decided to pull some things out and I was able to fit right into a bunch of it!! I was thrilled! Have any of you had any victories yet you'd like to share?? Any goals you're close to reaching??

Hello everyone. I haven't posted for a while. I hope you are all doing okay. I am at the stage post op where I can have all textures of foods. Problem is I don't really have a specific plan to follow, and it is difficult to stick to the diet when there aren't specific instructions. I've found that now that I can eat, I want to eat everything. Being hungry for the 3 weeks ppre-op, and then the past 4 weeks post op was difficult, and I think now that I am able to eat anything, I want EVERYTHING. I did not do well during the mushies stage, and in fact, I had a lot of high calorie puddings and yogurts. I was so hungry and after feeling deprived, my brain kept telling…

Hi. I am getting my first fill this Friday. Right now I am eating a lot less than usual but solid foods. Dinner salad is half eaten, 1/2+ chicken breast and some soft veggies. I probably could eat more, but I feel full so I stop. Had one issue with chicken, didn't chew enough. The stuck feeling took about 5 minutes to pass. Probably not the same feeling as a PB. Haven't had one of those yet. My question is, after my 4ml fill, how much will my eating differ from what I am doing now.

I have between 28-25 lbs to my goal and it's just taking forever. It just won't come off! I am already very sensitive to fills so if I get another one it will most likely be too tight for me. 1/2 of a cc is too much for me sometimes. I have these rolls of flab and I swear that's the 25 lbs I need to lose! Just needed to vent!

yep. i'm really struggling w portion control. sooooo....since i didn't eat my salad i'd made myself today for lunch - so i ate it when i got home tonight for dinner. i got mostly ham/turkey and hard boiled egg whites and some shredded lettuce and measured out one cup, and ate it right out of the measuring cup. now, to some of you guys, this may sound silly, but for some reason - i really felt 'in control' .....i had my portion, and i was ok. and i ABSOLUTELY did not drink. i set the timer on my phone ( so i wouldn't drink for 30 min), and walked away. this is kinda big for me.... that's the two things i struggle w is portion control and not drinking while i eat!!! thanks …

I found this really great cookbook at a yard sale today: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and Michele Bontempo- Saray. Some really awesome recipes inside. I made a creamy shrimp chowder for lunch that is really out of this world (for a pureed, 1-4 week post-surgery recipe). Other really great recipes I can't wait to try. Low fat, high Protein. Every recipe has serving guidelines for lapband, bypass, and other WLS. I highly recommend.

i know this sound simple - but this has been one of my biggest struggles w/my band. I know that this is hindering my complete success and i truly want to enjoy living the 'banded life' as well as loose my additional weight. i would appreciate any non-judgemental advice on how to not drink while i eat. what are some tricks, tips, ideas for those of you who are succeeding in this area? thanks in advance..... when we rarely go out to eat, i've started telling the waitress that i don't want anything to drink - they look at me funny sometimes - but at least i don't have the temptation!!!

Ok here goes, i was banded june of 2010, i weighed 215, i did fine and lost 60 lbs over the last two years, then in october of 2012 i felt i was more hungry and was putting on a little weight so i went to my gastro for a fill, when the asst dr looked at the band under floro i was told it had prolapsed and all the Fluid had to be removed for one month, i was pretty bummed to say the least, after the month i had gained 10lbs and they put a couple ccs in the band, sfter a couple weeks of no restriction i went back to be told it had prolapsed again, fluid was removed again for one month (this of course was during all the eating holidays of course) i went back in dec and had …

After 2 years I finally went back to my dr to get back on track. He sent me for a barium esophogram to check on my band since its been a long time. I was so nervous but the radiologist said the band looks good still - I just have no pouch and everything just goes right down. I see my dr on Thursday & hope to have a fill & get back on the wagon. I really want to make this work this time - I am tired of feeling like a failure. I know it's my own fault that I havent succeded - I just needed to vent to others that understand how I feel, thank you for listening =)

10 months and 3 fills into this, have lost 70lbs. I have my next follow up appt on Tues 4/2, but this past Wed 3/27 I was eating lunch and not paying attention and got "stuck". It came back up and has felt like something stuck ever since. I can barely eat, I can drink some but not alot at a time. Now I have been dealing with alot of emotions and stress this week. We were just told that my mother in law is terminal. My husband is in charge of her medical needs and I am really close to her. I have been reading that in times of stress this can happen. My question is should I call the doctor sooner or can this wait until Tuesday. I do have a call into them but want to…

I had lap band sx in July 2012. We started dieting in June, me with per-op liquid diet and him counting calories. Since then he is all about how much he lost, gained, ate, walked . . . Etc. each and very day for the last 9 months that is all I've heard. I'm having my own troubles, but it is all about him. I've just had my 3rd fill, my weight is going down, but it is so slow. Only lost a total of 26 lbs, want to and need to lose more.

There are many factors that impact obesity. There are genetic predispositions (nature), environmental influences (nurture), poor diet, lack of exercise, pre and peri-natal conditions, such as mother's diabetes, abuse, etc. The problem with doctors is that they lump all of us under one umbrella of diet and exercise. After gaining 30 lbs when I became disabled due to spinal stenosis/SI Joint dysfunction, my spine doctor sent me to another back specialist to get a second opinion. After I was weighed (285 lb) he pronounced loudly that my problem was easily managed by diet and exercise! "Get off the couch and onto a treadmill!" Was his advice. I asked if he had any nor…

3-4-13 will now be my lucky numbers since that is the day I got banded. Now on day 3 and I am hungry like crazy but have lost weight already which is a nice incentive as I drink another clear liquid. (Blah!). In any case, I am happy to be here surrounded by all of your ideas and suggestions. I know we can make it through with fellow banders standing by us! Hi everyone, today is my actual 6th year anniversary. I was thinking 6 years ago this minute I was in surgery. And my life is completely different. First I must say getting the band has been the best thing I've ever done.... But it is something I had to work at to get where I'm at. I have to say this website was instrumental for many reasons. 1. Before I got the band, it gave me a clear picture of what to expect... The good and the difficulties. I was able to discern between people that were successful and people that had the band for a few years and didn't get anywhere. The successful people journaled their food, exercised and shared their issues to get solutions. Wh…

I lost a little over 20lbs so far ! I cannot tell at all because i see myself everyday my family says they can notice but i think they are just saying so lol! But I think im starting to believe them! Why? Because a lady who works in another department next to mine came up to me and was like " Wow! You look like you lost a lot of weight!" Woohoo feels good to hear someone you dont talk with normally notice! I still have a ways to go but if 20lbs+ makes a difference already I cannot wait to lose another 20lbs+!!!!

SoccerBlueJ, yesterday I was fortunate enough to have the experience you should have had. My last fill was last October (7.2 cc in a 10 cc band) and I was having a tough time adjusting to that level. I was getting stuck too often, etc. and in December had 0.3 cc removed. I have been trying to adjust to the new level but still getting stuck and pbing more often than I should have been. I have to own up that I was not following the program - too big bites too quickly, eating slider foods. I saw the PA yesterday and she said that getting stuck 5 days out of 7 is clearly too much and my band is still too tight. She said there's no incentive to follow the program when yo…

So... I want banded plication but I live in Virginia and there are no Doctors doing it within a reasonable distance. So far it seems Dr.Geiss in Ny/Nj is doing it and theres the iband people in austin texas. Anyone know of any other doctors doing banded plication? I have spoken to Dr. Mehta in NJ but he only does plication. I do have insurance & they will pay for the band part and I will pay out of pocket for the plication. ----------------------------- Just in case you don't know. - plication: folding & stitching of the stomach longitudinally to create weight loss similar to the sleeve without removing the extra parts of the stomach. -banded …
