I made some delicious shrimp tacos tonight and wanted to share the recipe with you all. 4 ounces raw shelled deveined shrimp 1 tbs onion 1/4 tsp butter 1 tsp shredded cheese 1 tsp guacamole or plain avocado 1 tsp sour cream 6 inch tortilla of your preference A wedge of lime or lemon Sauté onion and butter until soft then add in shrimp and sauté until shrimp is cooked through. Toast tortilla in dry nonstick pan. Layer all ingredients on tortilla, shrimp then cheese then the rest, and top with a squeeze of citrus. Delish! And my fitness pal clocks it at around 250 calories and 22 grams Protein for one taco. Enjoy!

Does anyone have suggestions for a good protein supplement? I really don't care too much for the vanilla and chocolate shake type. I prefer fruity. I am loosing very slowly and I think it has alot to do with my protein intake. Will this help or do I need to up my "hard" protein? Also how much food does your dr. say that you should be eating at a setting? Mine has told me 1/4 cup of food. Does that sound right? Thanks so much in advance.

I have been busy living life, working, playing, as almost to goal weight. I hit 155 pounds this morning when I woke up. Has it been a success? Yes. Has it been easy? Not always. The best advice I can give to fellow bandsters; Follow the rules that are given to you but also live your life and enjoy foods you can. Be intentional in how you will live each day in your improved health and body...enjoy it! It's a slow journey at times so don't give up on the band. If your body doesn't feel well then it means you just might be too restricted. Is that a way to live? No! I'm now 2 years and 5 months out. The rules really play into your daily life as you get closer to goal. I dou…

I have tried several kinds and I just don't know why this stuff makes me feel sick about a hr or so after consuming it.. I tried stuff with no lactose just to see if I was intolerant, still same sick effects... I started to wonder if it could be all the vitamins in it? I just really want to find something that I can use as a back up to get protein in when I can't do it the normal way... Anyone else have this issue and have come up with a solution? Thanks

I really just need to vent. I am starting to feel like a failure. Let me say that I am SO proud of my accomplishment so far! I'm down 47lbs in 13 weeks and I have put a lot of hard work and dedication into getting to this point. Recently, I have been completely off my diet and eating the way I used to. I'm a teacher and I am surrounded by temptations of snacks, cake, etc.. and I have given in to them unfortunately. I find myself getting to the point of uncontrollable to be honest. I try so hard to get back on track with my eating and I just can't seem to do it! Today was my weigh in day, and the scale jumped up just about 4 pounds. I'm not surprised at all because…

Could I get some examples please of what makes up a full liquid diet. The sample that my Dr. gave me were clear liquids except for the protein shakes.I was going shopping this weekend to get ready. I was just curious what "full" meant to everyone else. Then I was going to call the nut on Monday and check. For example they said broth but no mention of cream soups, I thought that was a "full" liquid? Thanks

Had my post op appt today, and I'm 3 weeks post op exactly. I've lost 35lbs since the day of my seminar. I was banded April 26. First week post op I lost 6 lbs, second week I gained 3, third week I lost 9..starting weight 301, current 267. I'm totally proud of myself for losing as much as I have, but the last 2 weeks have been all willpower!! I lost any kind of restriction I had on the second week (hence the 3lbs gain) so I put myself on protein shakes again for breakfast, don't eat lunch most days because I'm asleep (I work graveyard) and have a normal dinner. But I started speed walking every day and using an exercise bike at work for 30 minutes, and that's how I l…

It didn't happen... my APRN looked over what I was eating (brought a few printouts of my daily food intake) and he suggested that my Protein intake was excellent, and that I could even add a few more calories. At present I am staying under 1000 calories a day. He was ecstatic that I had joined a gym and was going on a regular basis. I asked about a fourth fill, and while he was willing to do, he advised that since I am losing two or three pounds a week that a fill wouldn't yield any benefit. My concerns to him... I can eat whatever I want, as fast as I want... the dietitian told me to eat 1 cup meals... His response was that yes, if you are eating some foods that ar…

Ok had the band put on May 8th. Started off at 321, during the pre-op diet I lost 9 lbs(which was a miricle since I really only tried for the last 4 days of it). Since the procedure, The first week I lost 7 lbs. Which is good I guess? I have not been hungry once and for the first few days I was only dringking water with very little else. I could have started thicker liquids a few days ago but opted to stay with the thin liquids thinking I would lose more quicker. Daily I am taking in around 400 calories at the most, usually less with around 90+ grams of protein (from whey protein powder). I have a few sips of chicken broth at dinner time. I have had a couple sips of…

I am 5 months post op with a 38 lbs. loss since surgery. In the past month I have noticed I have a very flaky scalp in the front. My hair is very dull looking and not very shiny any more and very lack luster. I have went through an entire bottle of head and shoulders with no change so I am thinking it is not normal dandruff. My nails are like wet paper when they do grow out. I have heard people talk about taking biotin, and I am wondering if I should start taking it also? For the ones who do take it regularly, can you tell a difference since starting it and does it sound like I should start taking it? Help, I am turning into a mess.

I was banded on 6.29.09 and from my heaviest I am down 105 lbs. and down about 80 since surgery. I am more than thrilled with all that has left me and that I have never gained an ounce on this journey and I have been on one difficult journey. Two months after surgery my husband developed a staph infection on his foot that would not heal. Between 9/09 and 4/10 he was hospitalized 7 times with staph, MRSA, sepsis, silent heart attacks that resulted in having agents placed and multiple toe amputations due to the above infections. Of course once each and every specialist gave him a clean bill of health, my spouse of 34 years passed away on the evening of the last day of sc…

I am pre-op and have been changing my diet, eating better, cut out all soda and almost all caffeine. I have been feeling good. Today I ate a protein bar for the first time and it has made me feel terrible. Has anyone else had this problem? I feel nauseous and just bad. The fact that I have 3 more protein bars in my pantry makes me want to throw up. Anyone else can't tolerate the protein bars? The drinks don't seem to bother me.

Hey Guys, It's been a while since I've posted. I've actually moved from New Jersey to Atlanta in July and have been busy settling in. I've noticed that I PB a lot more that I used to and I'm starting to notice a little pain in my stomach where my port is. Part of the problem is , that I'm in Atlanta now and I can't seem to find a doctor who will see me regarding this here. My surgeon was in New Jersey (Dr. Abkin's office) and when I call them, they tell me to fly up to see them which is kind of hard to do. I really wanted to see if anyone knows the symptoms of slippage before I book a flight out. Thanks,:think

So does anyone out there suffer from the inevitable ending of the day glass of wine.?! I'm sure alcohol has attributed to some of my weight gain and I'm scared of it continuing to be a problem going forward after surgery because it's a liquid. I know I'll have to scale back but I have a very stressful job and family life and long for that evening relaxing glass of wine. How do I cope? Thoughts??

I was banded in 2006 and went from a starting weight of 265 down to 160 in 3-4 years. The next 3 years I've maintained that weight then put back on a total of 30 lbs. The last 15 lbs. Came back fairly quickly when I had to have my band emptied last summer for a major surgery (cost me 10 lbs.). Then a few months ago, I had to take some medication which quickly added another 5 lbs. Although I've had several fills, I still don't feel enough restriction. I have an appt. In 4 days for another fill. I am 5'4" and currently weigh 190 and want to get down to 135-140. I've been eating badly for quite some time and snacking a lot. I am working on kicking the emotional eat…

Hi I was banded in February and have had a few fills so far, 5cc total in my 10cc band. Last month after my fill I felt a little restriction for a few day but eventually lost it. Yesterday I went for a fill and received .5 fill and now I can hardly keep down water. Could I become too restricted with this small fill after not feeling anything or is something else going on here? I called my Doctor and I'm going in tomorrow morning.

Hello! My name is Megan and I have had my lapband since March 2010. It was the best thing I could have done for myself. I was strict about everything from my portions to my food choices. The weight just fell off. I rarely exercised, which is something I really regret. In July 2011 I got pregnant with my son. My doc's protocol was to completely unfill my band. I experienced terrible all day sickness that only seemed better when I kept food in my tummy all day. I quickly gained as I had no restriction. I ate things I never ate with my band and had no control. By the time I had my son and went in for my first fill I had gained 60 pounds. I had my first fill and t…

So, it's been 3 years since I got my band. I started at 249.5 and today weighed in at 190.5 (my lowest was 163) but from what I have seen and heard, almost everyone either levels out, or becomes complacent and gains some back. That's me, Mz. Complacently.....who is disgusted with herself. Today is a new day, and one to make better choices. I will get back to it, one better decision at a time, and stop being so hard on myself. I refuse to be a statistic. Thank you for listening

Does anyone have suggestions for snacks to take on a road trip (about 10 hours) that are low carb, high protein, and low fat? I was thinking almonds, but I doubt I could control myself that well (love them ) and probably will not take these and they are high in fat.

Hi everyone, I just want it to hear how are you doing and your story, mine: I have been banded for 17 months, have lost 54 pounds, struggle on every single pound.. Took my doctor a full year to get me in to any restriction, I have a 14cc band and now I have 11.7cc on it... Feel restriction now, with that said my journey hasn't been a walk in the park, I believe I have lost this 54 pounds by dieting and watching what I eat most of them because like I said I had no restriction... For the last week or so ever since I went for a feel again. I feel a really good restriction, satisfied, not looking for food... I don't even think of food anymore... The reason that I put thi…

Hi, I'm new here and I am 8 days post op. I was told by my surgeon to start mushy food around the 22nd. So heres a bunch of questions: Some people eat fish. Am I supposed to puree this or are they soft enough on their own? I also notice people eat refried Beans and I know for a fact those can be very thick. Is that okay or am I supposed to mix it with liquid and make it thinner? One more thing, I absolutely love eggs but I see mixed feelings on whether or not they belong to the mushy stage and I'm really hoping someone can tell me if they do fit in. Also, am I supposed to have 4 oz of food with each meal? Am I still supposed to regularly drink liquid around these time…

Hi everyone. So here's my question to everyone here. I was banded feb of 2012. I've had a few fills. And have lost about 60 lbs. but one thing I've noticed is i have never felt full. I know that sounds odd, and I think it does as well. When I was banded with plication I always figured that I'd sit, eat a few bites, and feel full. I asked my doctor and was told- the lap band doesn't work that way. She said- it will help you by keeping you satisfied between meals. That you'd feel fuller longer on less food. So I watch what I eat. Have some bad days. And usually feel satisfied from meal to meal. Since I've been on this site I've met some great people. And have gotten great f…

I'm wondering if there is anyone here who lives in Rochester and has input on area doctors? Also, if anyone has Aetna U of R insurance and knows if they pay for lap band surgery? I am in the beginning of my journey-been thinking about it a long time, but only now have I really set my mind on it. I see my primary doc on Friday. I'm sure she would recommend someone, but curious as to other peoples' experiences.
