Pregnancy after weight loss surgery. Trying to conceive, nutrition, recovery, breastfeeding, and parenting post-op.

  1. Started by Kellyann,

Hi All! After my surgery, I lost 120 lbs. Then I got pregnant. My baby was born Aug of '06. My problem is I can't seem to be able to lose the weight again. I'm at the right the fill level, but can't seem to get back on track or remember how I did it the first time! Any suggestions or similar experiences? Thanks

This will be more then just baby talk too, it will also be an inspiring motive to get back on track with our lap band and diet. :w00t::crying:... heheh yeah the dreaded diet. Hi Everyone! I'm four months pregnant and my all day sickness is killing me! In my other pregnancies I dranked Ginger Ale. I have not had carbonated drinks since being banded. I read the whole debate over it, and most say they drink diet after the fiz is gone, but with morning sickness I think the fiz is the point. From the discussion I get that soadas don't harm the band. but I have read that some suffer fron awful gas. Any advice? Can we PLEASE get a pregnancy board?

My husband and I are eager to have kids... but I'm being banded on Monday, so we'll be waiting a couple years. My question is... during my pre op I was told we needed to use "reasonable" methods of birth control. I, of course, don't want to get pregnant at an unhealthy weight... but here's my issue: I have PCOS, so I don't want to take birth control because I'm interested in seeing at what weight my period starts up again. What did everyone else use pre pregnant days? And did it work?

He was so nice about me being preggers. I lost 7 pound this month. He told me I could keep my fill for now. The baby would take what it needed. But if I was losing too much, needed to be looser for vitamins, had m/s he would be happy to unfill me. For now I have chosen to stay at my fill and see how it goes. I can go in anytime to get unfilled. I am getting about 1000 cal a day. I know it is not alot but I have very low metabolic rate :eek: He said we just need to follow me and the baby very carefully. Blood tests , US and the such. So I am going to wait till next month when I see the OB and see what he says unless something changes between now and then.

Maybe I am just looking for encouragement. :frown: Thanks for your help and advice ladies!!

I can and always have been able to feel my port easily under the skin but now I really wonder what the port will look like with a big pregnant belly. What did your pregnant belly and port look like? Did you have any issues or do you have any recommendations for a fellow pregnant bander? I would love to hear all!!! Thanks!

Not sure if anywhere else has these, or just in NJ, but they have parking spots ( mind you that is at least 10 less handicapped spaces for those that need it) for women that are pregnant or with small children. Since when is that necessary? Our mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers probably even walked to the store while pregnant and now they need special spaces? Pleeeeease

The first is that my first child who is now 2 yrs old was born 3 months early and was in the hospital for 4 months and almost didn't make it. I of course think this will happen again. Seeing as how my doc told me that pregnancy was next to impossible after my first child I never thought this would or could happen. The second reason i'm freaking out is bc of my band. I will be…

I went for a partial unfill yesterday and what a difference! Dr. Kurian only removed .06, but I can actually eat for the first time in weeks without taking several trips to the bathroom. It was really becoming annoying. Starving all the tie and not being able to eat. And losing an additional 8 pounds while pregnant was a bit scary. Today was smooth sailing. I ate yogurt, bananas, PBJ, and pulled pork. Not one trip to the bathroom!!!!! Now I just have to try my hardest to only gain the 25 lbs my OB recommended. Hopefully I won't…

I am currently 5 weeks pregnant. I know that saline is taken out of the band to lessen food restriction during pregnancy, but I was curious as to whether or not this is something that "must" be done. If I am able to eat healthy and still take in the required amount of calories without ganing excessive weight, then I don't see why I need to make any changes to the band. I am curious to know what understanding or experiences my fellow bandsters have with regard to pregnancy and deflating the band. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two weeks before my lapband surgery, I started the pre-op diet and lost ten pounds. I had surgery two and a half weeks ago and since then have lost another fifteen. I'm thrilled w/those results, BUT I have so much swelling in my stomach that I look nine months pregnant. I had my post-op check-up a couple of days ago and the doctor was not concerned in the least, even though he hadn't heard of this happening. Has this happened to anyone else...and if so, when does it go away? I have NOTHING to wear, and what DOES fit is painful because the skin across my entire abdomen is very sensitive (he did have a response to that). LLB

After coming home and finally going in for cyst surgery, It had grown to the size of a watermellon and went up to my ribs, it was 8 lbs of fluid! I had to have major surgery to get it out. Can we get a pregnancy board here? I was banded in March of 2006 and lost a lot of weight fast!. I lost almost 40lbs the first month. By August I lost all I would lose so far and have been going up and down 10lbs. Each fill I lose the 10lbs I gained in between and then I stop losing! I usually lose that while on liquids after the fill. I am pregnant now and I honestly do not recall ever being this hungry in my life! I am not dieting, not eating like a bandster at all and am afraid to blow up. I really want to go in for a fill. What do you guys think? I'm only about 6 weeks preggo.

Does anyone know the risks of having band removal surgery while pregnant? Or if it's even possible? I'm 11 wks pregnant, and want my band removed ASAP. I was banded in Apr 06, and have had a port infection that has developed into pseudomonas (a deadly infection). My doctor put me in the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics in Nov, and last month had to do a minor procedure where she had to go in and turn my port over (it was upside down). The newest development is that the tubing on the band is coming through my incision. My dr attempted to fix it, but that didn't work. Needless to say, it's been a real pain! I eat all the time and eat more than I should be eating. Everyone keeps saying "Oh you are pregnant, enjoy it!", but I am scared to death I will stretch out the pouch. I try to stop after a few ounces, but my stomach is still growling. I am still following the no liquids, chew slowly and all that. I have even been considering asking the doc to put some fluid back in. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell if your pouch has stretched?

Loving my new body and nervous about the one I am going to get but excited about the gift God has given me. My doctor said as long as I had my fill taken out by my 7th month I should be good.

I have been away for a while. At first I was sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out if we were pregnant. We are. Now I am sitting on pins and needles waiting to see how much weight I gain. I have never before been concerned about gaining weight while pregnant but this time...well, this time I am freaking out. I want so badly to be think again. We didn't plan this and are still adjusting to the information but never the less after only 30lbs loss we are pregnant. I was really geared up to lose the next 30lbs which would have left me with my last big hurdle of 30lbs. Oh well. Now I am trying to figure out how am I going to get in the recommended nutrition. …

I have had my band for almost 2 years now...I know....kinda sucks I got skinny and now I am prego!! But hey after the kid is born I can just get it tightened again! I have had all the fluid out of my band taken out. I was wondering if anyone else here has been prego with the band if your port hurts? I feel sharp pains every now and then with my port and then it is sore for most of the day. I know it is attached to your side and that getting a big round hard belly might cause issues. I am concerned that it might tear. Anyone experience this?
