So I was told that when I get pregnant that I would have to have a high risk OBGYN? Has anyone had that same experience? Is the process any different? What makes a bannder high risk?

I was banded almost 4 months ago and we're hoping to start "trying" soon for our first baby, hopefully in 2-3 months. Most of our friends and family are not aware I had lap band, and I would like it to remain that way. My biggest fear is that my belly will give me away for 2 reasons: scars and the port sticking out. I have uterine issues and we've been told to start our family soon at risk of not being able to conceive. As well, my bariatric surgeon has ok'd me to lose another 10-20 lbs and give it a shot. While not ideal, I am in great overall health and time is of the essence I am losing alot of sleep over how the next year of my life will be and I am very excited i…

On my consultant's advice I had a defill 14 weeks into my pregnancy. My baby is now 7 weeks and having gained 35lbs I'm now keen to get back on track. I've just stopped breastfeeding and plan to have a fill the week after next. How soon after giving birth did others get filled? Did you get a defill when pregnant?

Well here is a little about me. I have PCOS and therefore was infertile. Didn't have a period for 5 years and tried to have a baby and finally got pg and had baby boy 5/3/2007 due to IVF. Well I was banded on 1/29/08 and have lost 33lbs since. I got my period for the first time in February than it came again in March, and then April and may. Well I just found out yesturday I am 5.5 weeks pregnant. I am excited and scared. Right after I had my first baby last summer, I got pg like 6 weeks after he was born and miscarried. Well now I been really sick and lightheaded and super hungry. I am scared to tell my dr who does my fills and what not as they don't advise you …

Hi, I am very close on getting my lap band. I also have my tubes tied, its been 7 years since my last child. I am remarried, he has no children. I in part regret getting my tubes tied so young. Anyway I would like in the next few years if money allows to have another baby. I kinda hope that I don't have to get surgury to get my tubes untied, but I am sure I will have too. But when I was in the meeting to get the lap band process going, they said, while trying and once you get the GB/ lapband practice extra birth control and they said even if your tubes are tied. So.. I want to know, has anyone after getting the lap band, gotten pregnant even if your tubes are tied? An…

A quick question for all you band mama's! How long were you banded before you got preggo. I know the doc says 12-18 months ... I'm not ready for kids yet but I am just curious. How many pounds were you down when you got preggo?? I am probably going to have to get on birth control cause I know my fertileness will shoot through the roof soon. But I wanna enjoy my new sexy body for a little bit before I have a baby now for long but a lil while would be nice LOL. But thanks for any and all responses. Love and blessings APPLES!

Hello Dr and every one: I had the band done on september 2006 . I am now 36 weeks pregnant. I just had one fill before pregnancy. The beginnig of pregnancy up to about 2 months ago I was ok.I did not vomit as much. However, I have started throwing up when I had some small amount of food. Also, I am unable to eat or drink anything midnight or when I wake up until about 1pm( I throw up even small sips of water).last 2 or 3of times I went to my Ob/GYn he told me I had lots of ketones in my urine which are not good for baby's brain and told me I am starving myself .My husband has started giving me so much guilt and checking me up so that I wont throw up. he tells me he wont fo…

So we're trying to start working on putting a nursery together. We have a painter coming next week to paint all interior areas so I was hoping to know what furniture we were getting and let that influence my color decision for the nursery. I am having the hardest time. We had a whole suit of furniture picked out, but trying to get it is a nightmare and likely not going to happen. From very early on this is the suite we liked and had assumed we'd go with. Now it's last minute and we're trying to find something else. We find another wood we like and think will work well for a child (I'm not the type who would put black furniture in a child's room, nor super soft pine…

Is there anyone out there who has had a normal delivery with a band in? My hubby and I are thinking about waiting to have a baby for a while after I get banded, but I still have questions. I saw a lot of women talking on here about having c-sections and I really don't want one unless absolutely necessary, so.... Any help?

Hey everyone, well I was just wondering how long after being banded did most of you wait to start trying for pregnancy? Also, how much did you weigh when you got pregnant? One of my main reasons for being banded is so that I can have another child. When I got prego w/my son 3 years ago I weighed 300 lbs and although I had no problems conceiving i did encounter problems during pregnancy due to weight issues (high bp, gest diabeties w/insulin, low blood sugar for baby when born, etc.) so when I got the band my goal was to lose 110 lbs. before even thinking about trying for #2, but now it's been 6 months and I've lost 90 lbs. (20 to go) but I'm getting so anxious and worr…

:unsure:I think I am supposed to wait a year until I get pregnant after getting banded. I just got my band on 3/5/08. My husband and I already have four wonderful children and we don't want anymore. We were taking precautions, but I was also taking precautions with 3 of my 4 I already have. What complications/problems could I run into if I really am pregnant so soon after getting my band?

I was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out whats going on with me. I am a little over 15 weeks now and for the past couple of days I have been having the twinge/pain under my breast bone towards my right rib. At first I thought it was the weight of my dd breast (that are now getting larger) but it happens with or without a bra, when I lay on my side, or standing. Could something be wrong with my band or could it be all my organs are shifting to make room for my growing uterus? On a pain scale its about a 2 or 3, but enough to get my attention. Has anyone else had this? As far as eating, things go down well, I have 1.2cc in a 10cc band. So I dont think I need …

Hi Guys! I am 11 weeks pregnant with suprise baby number four. I was banded literally right before I got pregnant. (I had in an IUD.) I am one of the wonderful .1% statistics. I had someone tell me I should not have the sugar test. These are friends of ours and I respect their opinions. He has a family member who is banded and they passed that on to him. I have not read that anywhere so I thought I might ask here. My OB has not had a band patient so she is no help. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks for any help.

Hi ladies! I wanted to share with everyone what my doc told me today. I went in to make sure my band is okay and ask what I need to do as we want to get PG at the end of the year. The doc told me that they can't do fluro if I am pregnant and when you don't use fluro you run the risk of puncturing a hole in the port. As if to prove a point, the gal who went in before me went to another fill doctor and he did a blind fill and actually punctored a hole in her port and she must now get a new one. The gal was telling me before going in that when she was pregnant, she didn't get an unfill, ended up messing up the band and then it caused problems but she wouldn't let them remov…

Hey, I have a question, maybe someone here can help. I recently (as of a few weeks ago) stopped taking my birth control pill. I of course bled for a few days which is a side effect when you stop taking it. Now, I've recently been feeling very sick. Lots of nausea and literally NO appetite at all. It comes and goes in waves. I've also been feeling very tired and shakey, my hands shake sometimes too. I can barely eat anything without it making me feel so sick. I had a fill about 2 months ago and have had no problems. It's been a couple of months and I feel like NOW I have tons of restriction out of nowhere. I feel like I can't eat anything and what's worse is I do…

I am just over 11 wks today. I had my second ultrasound. the first one they had to do vaginally because despite having lost a lot of weight I am still heavy plus have lots of flabby stomach skin. Today they did another ultrasound because they couldn't hear the heartbeat through all my fat. They could see the baby (it was actually pretty active) but getting a good pic was impossible and the heart beat was still faint through the fat and skin. Am I the only one with this problem? I am frustrated and a little embarrassed. The doc said I'm measuring fine and she has no worries because the baby is active...but yeah, just one more frustrating thing about being overweight! Jus…

Just curious... Are there any other pregnancy forums you all visit? I've checked out a few, but haven't found any I love. So far, the only other one I post on is the Plus Sized and Pregnant Board at pregnancy.org. The last thing I need is another internet-related time-suck, but I just can't help myself!

Today is April 21st. My little girl was due on Friday, April 18th, but seems to be enjoying life inside the womb. I was 100% effaced and 3 cm dialated over a week ago, but obviously she is in no rush to be born as I am still carrying very high and haven't felt even 1 contraction. My first daughter was born 6 weeks prematurely, so being this pregnant is uncharted territorry for me. I am sooooo thankful to have made it to full term this time, but I am ready to go!!!! If anybody out there knows of any sure-fire ways to bring about labor, let me know (Yes, I have already tried the sex thing...) :rolleyes2:

Just wanted to hear from any bandsters who may be currently pregnant or have been pregnant with the band. I am currently 28 weeks (fill removed) and have had no complications, but I was concerned that labor (pushing) may cause a slippage. I have not been able to find any information on this and was wondering if anyone knows or has experienced anything. Thanks! Apryl

Hi, I was banded in Sept 2005. I had to have my band unfilled this past November because of chronic acid reflux issues. I wasn't really losing anyway and had regained quite a bit of my weight back due to soft calories. In Dec., i found out I was preggo. I'm now 18 weeks and have gained about 4 lbs but my band is so tight. It is totally unfilled so there isn't much I can do but some days I can't even get down half a sandwich. I'm trying to eat as healthy as I can but I think the fact that overall, I'm retaining Water is making the band so much tighter. I love it but I hate it sometimes. Anyone else experienced this?

I've picked up some things at Target, some of their stuff fits, some of it doesn't. Generically I'm wearing an 18, but I'm also just under 6 ft so things for the legs can be a bit tricky. I'm not worried about officewear, my office goes to casual during the summer, plus I work from home most of the time anyway (bathrobe casual - yes!) But I will need some jeans/skirts/capris for summer, when I'm huge. So far the winner is penny's online, but I'd prefer to try things on before I pay for shipping, and the JCPs here don't carry above a 14 in maternity. Like fat people don't have babies.

I am hoping to get pregnant next month. I got my band on September 6, 2007. I know I'm supposed to wait a year, but with my circumstances I'm not going to. I know I won't have time to lose all of my weight before then. I'm 219 now and hope to be about 200 before I find out I'm pregnant. My goal is 180. My question is, do you have to have a complete unfill if you are pregnant? I am so worried about gaining too much during the pregnancy. My 25 years of overeating have proven to me that I have NO self control. So, has anyone gotten pregnant and stayed filled? Thanks for answering!

I'm 21 years old and I'm getting my band next week. I was wondering that, when I get pregnant, will my access port stick out A LOT? When I aunt was preggers, her belly button stuck out like an inch and it was gross! It is going to be like a baseball under shrink wrapped plastic? Lol, just another one of those pre surgery freak-outs!

Hi I am thinking about getting lap-band, but don't want to wait a year to TTC. I have already been pregnant once at end of Feb and lost the baby at 5 weeks. So we really want another baby. I also want to lose some weight. I don't have a lot to lose, but probably 60-80 pounds. I was wondering how long you waited to get pregnant after lap-band or if it was accidental how long it was after your surgery. Also did you have any problems, and how was losing weight after pregnancy. Thanks for any answers.

I'm just newly pregnant and have started losing weight after being on a plateau for a long time. I have no restriction (complete unfill due to acid reflux a few months ago.) I have absolutely no appetite, but I haven't started any nausea or morning sickness. I have been trying to read every post about weight and pregnant bandsters. A part of me is excited to be losing again, but I'm also concerned for the health of my baby. I still am about 50 lbs from goal weight so it's not like I don't have it to lose. But can it be ok for me to lose while pregnant? I feel like it's such a catch 22! Anyone have info. from their doctors about this? I want to be able to pa…

HI, I'm being banded 4-23-08, and am currentl 275, on a 5"8 frame. We have two wonderfull DD. BUt know we want one more, I was thinking to wait until after the 3rd to get the band, but hell no I'm NOT getting PG at my highest weight! NO WAY! SO....my question is once I get down to a decent weight, I"m shooting for around 200-210, and then possibly trying....seems by the posts that a lot of you have problems, not during the PG's but AFTER. I think I would just die if I lost all that weight, looked and felt better, and then to gain it all back. I never threw up with any of my PG's, just constantly nauseous for three months, but every PG is diff. and I can't say that I would…

Hi All: I don't hang out on these boards much anymore, but I thought I'd let everybody here know that I've gone through three Lap-Band pregnancies... so I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have. I was unfilled for all three. That was the protocol recommended by my maternal fetal medicine specialist, surgeon, and OB. I realize that some docs choose to leave the fill in, but for me, it wasn't worth risking any sort of nutritional issues for the baby. Also, if I had experienced morning sickness, it could have caused a slip. Similarly, many people vomit during transition in delivery (I did, but had no morning sickness), and that too could cause a slip. Not …

Three weeks after surgery I had my first period ON MY OWN !! YIPEE !! My question is: I now want to use an ovulation predictor to see if I am ovulating. I purchased the clearblue easy digital. Anyone with PCOS used this? Also, it says not to urinate for 4 hours before using, is this true?

After 2 years post surgery ( from 18W to a size 4) I lost 120 lbs. then last year got pregnant; start pregnancy weight was 137...ballooned up to 207 upon delivery and now 6 months later post pregnancy-and one fill ( was completely deflated during pregnancy) I have gone down to 167 lbs...I vomit 6-8 times per week:thumbdown:, and can not tolerate much of anything...Looks like band slipage maybe to blame...Having a miserable time trying to eat, I mostly don't eat...but I desperately want to get back to a size 6 ...Any good sugestions?

Hey there, well I have an appointment with the specialist in April to discuss when I will be getting the band. Looks like it will be April next year ('09) which really can't come fast enough for me - If I could have it done tomorrow - I would!!! Anywayz, problem is - we were going to start TTC around August/Sept next year ('09) which now I am not so sure is a good idea...thinking it may be better for me to wait until April ('10) to start TTC as it would have been a year with the band in....I am really unsure about what I should do - of course the health of myself and my baby is no#1 so just wanted to know what you all thought - would you wait that extra 8 months or would …

Well I am excited and hoping this is a new beginning for me. This is the reason I got banded in the first place to have a period and get pg on my own. I was just banded on 1/29 and have lost 18lbs. For the first time in over 2.5 years, I got a period on my own. A nice healthy heavy period. I just had a baby last May but had to do IVF to conceive him. I did lose a lot of weight with him and right after and got pg again 7 weeks later and lost to miscarriage. Well I gained a bunch of weight again (30lbs). Now I am so happy to see my period and hoping that it will contine month after month with me ovulating. has this happened to anyone else? I want to get pregnan…
