Band removal while pregnant???

Does anyone know the risks of having band removal surgery while pregnant? Or if it's even possible?

I'm 11 wks pregnant, and want my band removed ASAP.

I was banded in Apr 06, and have had a port infection that has developed into pseudomonas (a deadly infection). My doctor put me in the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics in Nov, and last month had to do a minor procedure where she had to go in and turn my port over (it was upside down). The newest development is that the tubing on the band is coming through my incision. My dr attempted to fix it, but that didn't work. Needless to say, it's been a real pain!

When I informed her of my pregnancy, she told me to stop taking my antibiotics, and that we would have to put off any more treatment until after the baby is here.

I trust her, but the thought of the infection building and swirling around in my body while I'm carrying a baby is terrifying. I can deal w/ the pain and the draining...but if it were to harm the baby somehow, I couldn't live w/ myself. I'm not sure if the infection can even spread to the baby or not ...?

I know this is a rare and complicated situation, but if anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate your responses!

Hi I haven't been on in while and the reason is because i'm 6 1/2 months pregnant, I was banded last April 2006 and got pregnant in October 2006 I wasn't trying to but it happen. Well once I found out I was pregnant my band was released of all fluid and is still safely inside me with no problems, I was told u have to have all the fluids taken out so your baby can get enough nutrients while being pregnant, and after I have the baby I still have to wait a little while longer to be pumped back up with fluids if I plan on breast feeding so the baby is still getting all the nutirents she needs. Well I know u already saw everybody elses comments but I hope mines helps u out a little also, goodluck and go for it ! :clap2:

My suggestion would be to get a second and third opinion. Be sure. It is one thing to make decisions about your own life and another alltogether to risk the both of you. It can never hurt to have too much information. Good luck with everything! God Bless.

Have you seen your OB yet? There are risks associated with general anesthesia and the fetus. You should consult your OB and see what they think. You may need to go see a maternal-fetal specialist, to see about risks concerneing surgery at this time and risks of the antibiotics you were on. I know this isn't many answers, but it is questions to ask your OB. Please give serious thought to what is said.
