Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

Weight loss surgery success stories. Share your milestones, before and after photos, and non-scale victories.

  1. Started by Harmonic15,

I had a day of firsts today... Someone wrote to me from the board about my Doctor and I realized that I was starting to forget about my VSG, i.e, not thinking about it on a daily basis. So I made a quick post about that as a reintroduction to the board and for the first time posted my before and after pics. It was quite a freeing and emotional experience. I realize they are in the wrong place and I might qualify as as success story, so if it helps anyone else, here they are again before i lose my nerve... I was sleeved on March 16th 2012 and am down 150 pounds... 1st series of pics was the night before surgery. 2nd series are from my holiday to Aruba this July. My wif…

I am currently 7 weeks out and down 43 lbs. I have started to really push my workouts the last week. I have started a 5k training program. Every since I have started exercising, I haven't lost any more weight. It's frustrating. At what point did you start to slow down with weight loss??

Today is my two-week Bandaversary and I'm so happy. The process has gone very well for me. I did a lot of planning, including making an appointment for a haircut today. A little present to myself! Along with stress and emotional eating, eating from boredom, etc., I used food as a reward system for myself. Time to come up with some good alternatives, ones that involve taking good care of myself. Getting the band was such a gift -- a way of choosing myself and my healthy future. That has done wonders for my self-esteem already. I'm happy to report that I still love food. I'm a good cook and I'm "in" food all the time -- nothing has changed there. The thing that h…

My name is Pamela C. I am from North Carolina. I am a Certified Personal Chef and Certified Person Pastry Chef. My journey with gastric bypass started last year in September. My husband is a photographer and had a client come in to take pictures because they had had the surgery. After speaking with them, I quickly made up my mind that this was something I needed to look into. I had looked into having gastric bypass before but always thought that I could not afford it even with having insurance because of the upfront out of pocket money that I would have to pay. I had already gone to several information sessions. After speaking with my husbands client and getting her story…

I started doing crossfit two months prior to my surgery. My trainer took my measurements before I started and then the day before surgery. I finally got back to my trainer to work out about two weeks post op and we did my measurements again. I have lost an inch from each of my arms, 2 from my bust, 3 from my waist, 2 from my hips and 3 from each one of my thighs. I couldn't be more excited!

Just curious, but why is it that I see veterans that choose not to have a profile pic? Seems like once you reach your goal weight, or close to it, that you would be proud of how you look and want to post a profile pic, even before & after pics. Maybe some people want to keep their identity secret. I can fully understand why someone that has not lost their weight would not want to post a pic. I guess, when I read a post from someone, I want to be able to see what they look like. Makes everything a little more personal. By the way; if you're one of the people that chooses not to post a pic, I'm not trying to pick on you, I'm just curious.

I am down 70lbs and feeling great (thank you, thank you band). The dilemma and I know it is a good one is should I carry on and lose the final 18lbs??? I am 59 years old and so far the skin I can live with, it is not pretty. I will never be able to afford to have surgery, it almost broke us paying for WLS so no chance for more surgery. Has anyone got advice for me, or faced similar situation?

I'm getting around much better, my back doesnt hurt, I can tie my shoes without a big circus production, etc. Loving the sleeve! My question for you all is this: Now that I'm getting excited by my weight loss, and really buying into the momentum of losing in my new lifestyle, I looked up my target/goal weight on the BMI chart. So my weight loss has slowed I am about 183 (cant change my weight on here because my patient profile page is all alt text?) however, I did measure myself which I had not done for a bit, and I have lost exactly 60" that's SIXTY INCHES...in other words the entire tape measure. I made a circle out of it. It was the circumference of a oak tree. A large oak tree. Wow. Yuck, that's quite the load off. I get the wow you have lost some weight, or they cant remember where they know me from..it must be the minus 82 pounds and sixty inches that can transform your look a bit. I'm posting this in the success stories forum since this is about success. My ticker says I have 25 lbs. to go to get to goal, but I am realizing I really have reached my goal. I needed to lose enough weight to get my hips replaced and that was done nearly six weeks ago. This surgery will improve my life tremendously and allow me to walk without pain. For those with chronic arthritis and associated pain, they understand better than most, just how vital and life changing this surgery is. I also reached goal in that I am no longer morbidly obese. I'm not talking about BMI, that's just a number. What I'm talking about is how people look at me. I'm just a 'normal' ov…

I have a question for those of you who are 1+ year(s) out from your VSG and view your process as "successful". What is a day in the life of your sleeve after that initial year or so? What do you eat in an average day? I'm just 6 weeks out and getting a little discouraged with the limited foods I'm able to eat. Just wondering what you all are eating in the long run and what your tips are for better food choices for the long haul. Thanks in advance!

I am 6 months and 8 days post-op and I am officially at goal!! I had to have foot surgery, yesterday and when they weighed me at the hospital (same scale as my sleeve surgery) and I weighted 133. My goal was 135. I have gone from a size 22 to a 10/12. And now I have to figure out how to maintain where I am now. I talked to the intake person at the plastic surgery place that I am considering next spring and she told me if I am underweight they will NOT do a lower body lift on me. I have to be about 140ish for the doctor to be comfortable doing surgery. She explained that since I have 12-16 pounds of skin to be removed, that will make my underweight according to my BMI. I …

I got rid of my larger sized clothes as soon as I could because I was so ashamed of how large I truly was. Well...since then I've often wondered about trying on something I used to wear when I was at my heaviest. Some of that is just because I find it hard to see my new smaller size even looking in a mirror or when buying new clothes in sizes that fit me now. So...the other day, I went into my sister's closet and put on a pair of her capri pants. She is the size I used to be so I knew it would be like trying on one of my own pair of pants. Obviously I did this when she was not around...the last thing I want to do is embarrass her in any way. This was really for m…

Two months after surgery and I am seeing weight loss in the strangest places. I had a great visit with my True Results office yesterday and decided to run some errands. My engagement ring was damaged last week so I took it in for a repair and decided to have it sized down as it has become very loose in the last few weeks. I had them tell me what the current ring size was - 8 3/4, then we tried to find the new size - a size 7!!! I could not believe it, I have never worn a ring that size and I celebrated by buying jewelry! Looking forward to hitting 199 next week and saying goodbay to 200s forever!!!

I am still at the stage where I can't quite believe it when something nice is said to me - and genuinely meant. But for the second time in 10 days, someone referred to me as a pixie. First was an event organiser planning a party for children to meet Santa - he said I would be perfect to be a pixie if I wanted to help... Then today, I saw someone I haven't seen for 3 months and she commented on how pixie-like I was - apparently dinky, little pointy chin, large eyes and cheek bones, all add up to being a pixie it seems. My 78lb heavier self never dreamed in Feb this year that this word would ever be applied to me. But I'll take it, lol! So what's the nicest, perhaps m…

  40. So, I've been to this dealer far too many times for issues with my vehicle. Here, you are assigned a case manager so there is consistency with your service and mine has never been particularly customer service oriented. I come in, I am shown to the waiting room with a bit of grunting, one or two word answers to my questions and a long wait time with absolutely zero check ins from him to tell me the progress. My car is (was as of today, argh!) under warranty, so my repairs have been free, but the dealer has never gone above or beyond what I've asked for. Last week I came in because my auto locks are not locking with the remote and I was about to turn 100k. I needed t…

We have all tried a failed dozens of times. Reaching our weight loss goal will be a major life event. Has anyone thought of what they plan to do to mark the occasion? I'm just curious.

I wanted to let him see how they were still waaaay too small for me. I love dresses but they didn't look good with the excess weight so I was very nervous. But they fit! And even though I say it myself, dang I look good in them! I have to admit, I didn't recognize myself in them. I didn't realize I am "small" enough to fit into them. I used to read about others who said they didn't realize they were in a smaller size and it made no sense to me. Today I understood that. I'm exactly three months out today (sx aug 2nd…

So when I posted a picture this week it created quite a buzz. I have lost 91 lbs in 7 months and feel better then ever. I could not ask for a better change in my life I can run and play with my son and not get tired. I have been so blessed to have had an easy recovery and a sleeve of steel. I have attached a picture from February 2013 and from this week.
