HAS ANYONE ELSE FACED PRESSURE TO NOT BE SLEEVED? My adult daughters are upset with me because I have been moving in this direction. Have had all my tests, received a c-pap machine, been going to mt pcp regularly (am on month 4). Have lost 13 lbs slowly since beginning. Am 5.5, weigh 232 and am 62. BMI = 38.6. Their argument is that I can lose weight on my own w/o surgery. I know full well the reasons why i should be sleeved, but I need to be encouraged. Or....are they right? Help!

I was never excited about shopping, but today i did... I found my outfit, it looks good, even when I stop loosing pounds, I am still loosing inches. well, pants went down a size from 24 to 22, tops when down 2 Sizes from 3x to 1x, I even modeled the clothes to my sister like the Jane in "Drop death diva". I am so glad I have my band. It is the first time in a long time I have so much fun shopping for clothes, it is a shame those clothes are going to be big on me in a couple of months!

Just wanted to see if anyone else feels this way post surgery. One of the things I had always done when eating out prior to surgery is that I would look at the menu and make decisions about what I would order based on how much food I thought I would get. It was the quantity that was most important. It didn't matter if it was something I might have liked the taste of as much as whether it would fill me up. It actually took some time after surgery to get to where I was out of this mindset. But now, it is really liberating to sit down and know that I can't eat like that even if I wanted to, so I now can focus on the quality and taste when in choosing what to order. …

Well I went to my high school reunion over the weekend and on all the rush I forgot to bring myself anything to wear the day after while visiting family so I had to run to Wal-Mart to grab some jeans and a sweater, nothing fancy just cheap and something that FIT. Normally I would just steal my mom's clothes but I'm no where near the right size to wear them anymore. Anyway, I have been wearing 10/8 jeans depending on the cut bit I had noticed they weren't really sitting 100% so I tried on some 8s and they were too baggy so I grabbed a pair of 6s and left without even trying them on since my family was waiting for me. I got back to my mom's and reluctantly slipped on the 6s…

I have two little 5 lbs dogs, Piper and Trigger, who both like to sit on my lap at the same time. My scale informed me this morning that I lost 30 lbs in 5 weeks. That makes me very happy but it got me thinking- I have lost 6 dogs!!!! I tried to imagine where I could fit 6 dogs on my body at the same time and it made me giggle because the thought is so ridiculous. Let me know what you have lost. I am really enjoying this sleeve thing

I've run 2 5ks, exercise 5x/week, sit with my legs crossed, don't mind photos anymore. My last BP was 114/70. I'm 1/2 way to where I want to be. I feel good. I feel renewed. I heart my lapband!

Okay, it's been almost 6 months since surgery. Lost close to 100 pounds. Things I have noticed. Firstly, I have gone through all the clothes I had in my closet, from xxxl to l. Even the clothes I used to wear when I thought I was at a " normal" weight are huge on me. Hard, uncushioned chairs are uncomfortable for my now bony butt, painful! The weight loss has happened so quickly that when I look in the mirror I can't wrap my head around the way I look. I can walk up 3 flights of stairs at work without having to sit down and catch my breath before I can chat with someone. I'm not depressed anymore, and don't let people take advantage of me. 3 different responses from peopl…

3 years ago today I had the VSG! So much has happened in the last 3 years in regards to my attitudes, abilities and awareness surrounding my body, what I eat, and how I exercise. I will do my best to keep this short! First and foremost, I am one of those people who had a surgical procedure to help me lose weight. And I hit a "low" weight and then, in the space of about 10 months, regained about 20ish pounds. Nothing is more humbling than being a "statistic" in this way. I had always heard that this regularly happens to WLS patients and a part of my brain said "oh that won't be me!" Haha. Lessons learned the hard way are sometimes the ones that stick with us the most.…

I went to the doctor for my 6 week checkup today and I had lost 29 pounds. She said the average is 25-35 so I am just fine. I thought I was going to be one of those that haven't lost what the average people loss by this point. I started at 278. I also found a multi vitamin there that I only have to take once a day and it is small. I am so ready to hopefully get down another 25 pounds by Thanksgiving.

I've been doing a ton of research and gone to a few support groups. I have met some very successful people with both Lapband and the sleeve. I'm curious to know how your recovery was with the sleeve? I have 3 kids...2 younger ones and I work full-time. I was planning on hopefully scheduling a December surgery date but was going to maybe only take 10 or 11days. Is that sufficient time fir the sleeve surgery? As a mom I originally was leaning towards sleeve because it seemed the least risky...but I've noticed alot of band to sleeve revisions. Would love feedback on this. Thanks!

I forgot to weigh this morning so I can't report exactly but I am sure that I am still in my 133-138 zone that I prefer to stay in, probably 134 based on what I have been eating lately. Since I was banded I have really changed the way I eat, I cook almost everything we eat from scratch, no more processed foods (except corn chips, my one concession to junk food). The funny thing is it really doesn't take longer or cost more once you learn what to do. I absolutely stay away from anything with high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweeteners, as far as I am concerned they are poisons that confuse yo…

I'm so excited about the weight I've lost so far and feel a million times better. I hesitate to post this because the before pic is me in my underwear but It's the only pic I have that really shows the difference. I hope it doesn't offend anyone. Hello all, needing to vent some frustrations I'm having during this journey. I have BCBS IL and they are doing everything imaginable to deny my surgery. It first started when my insurance coordinator tried to verify that I had the benefit. It took four calls for them to tell her yes. Then it took 2 weeks to pre-authorize my psych eval. Now after I've completed all required pre-op appointments, they are back to saying I don't have the benefit in my policy. A couple phone calls later, they again say I have it but they denied me cause I didn't complete required appointments. . . Although I have. This is so frustrating and I'm about to give up! I started this journey last November with a yearly check-up with my pcp. At that appointment I inquired about weight loss surgery. My doc handed me a referral to their bariatrics team. My weight was 289 lbs. I went to the informational meeting in Dec. Between Dec. of 2012 and August of 2013 I went to monthly meetings with the bariatric team, monthly appointments with my pcp, and had all sorts of tests and appointment to cover all of the requirements for my insurance. During this time I lost 23 lbs. On August 12 I started the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. It was hard at first but after the first few days it wasn't so bad. Aug. 26, my day for surgery I weighed 251…

Wearing my bathing suit, looking in the mirror in the gym locker room, I realized today just how much my body has changed. Seventy pounds gone. I absolutely never used to have any hope of losing weight. I was so resigned to living this way the rest of my life that I stopped trying. When I'd get upset, I'd just feed myself until I didn't care anymore. But today, watching myself shrink befote my eyes, I have hope for the first time in many years that I will be successful. And it is just so exciting to see where life will take me from here. I just had to share this. It sounds strange, but I feel like I'm healing, finally. I know you'll know what I mean.
