  1. Started by SandyM,

4.5 months into my journey and I'm halfway there. I ve lost 45 lbs and have approx 45 to go ( I 'll decide that by how I feel when I get closer). I know it'll take me more than 4.5 months to finish as weight loss has slowed down a lot. I'm exercising, trying not to diet as much as eat right and the way I hope to eat for the rest of my life. I feel I have more of a chance of being successful if I do it that way. I have only had one fill which pretty much I cant tell, so this Monday, I go in again hopefully for another fill. This board has inspired me so much and I think I would have had alot of trouble doing this without it. Thanks alot guys. I love you all for t…

Today was my 6 month follow up with my surgeon. I have lost 55% of my excess weight. According to him, the average loss at 6 months is 40%. My starting weight was 262. Surgery day was 249. Today I weighed in at 194 on my scale. 196 on his. I liked mine better. He also noted in my medical file the redness and itching under my breasts and pannis. He said if he puts it in my file, any excess skin removal would probably be paid for by my insurance as medically necessary. YAY!!! I walk 2-3 miles per day and can eat anything without issue( not that I do). I do have an occasional treat, and HORRORS!!!, have had soda a couple of times. This is my journey and its a life lon…

I really am so thrilled to have lost what I gained and then some more.. this is the first time I have ever lost weight after gaining... The band works....Side Note: Please keep my friends @ Sylvandale Guest Ranch in Loveland, Colorado in your prayers.. Their beautiful ranch has been devastated by the floods...

  7. So I had my consultation with my bariatric surgeon yesterday, and he wants me to get gastric bypass. His reasoning is that the sleeve doesn't help gerd which I have and in fact makes it worse. I am terrified if bypass, yet I have prepared for 2 years for the sleeve. I feel so disappointed. I understand his reasoning, but i am still terrified.

  11. Went to the eye doctor and you know that thing you have to hold onto so they can look in your eyes? You know, where you have to put your chin in the rest, and keep your forehead on the bar? I remember having to hold on for dear life because my big fat self couldn't get my head where it needed to be. Well, no problem this time. I got my chin in the rest easily and there was plenty of room in the chest area because the big massive boobs are no longer in the way. Loving the normalcy that comes without being obese anymore. In fact, I went out to dinner with my family last week and my sister, who is very heavy, did not sit next to me as I expected she would. I realized…

This is the results of my recent blood test. Diabetes gone, bad cholesterol disappeared, high blood pressure moved out, sleep apnea departed, hypertension not here, gout vanished, prostate problems divorce me. Down a from 52 inch gut to a nice 38, was 305 heavy on the scale to 185 lbs. Not bad for a 62 year old dude. Looking forward and wishing well. Thanks VST.com for the continuous support.

Well, sort of;) I'm finally below 150! It was a battle, and I finally had to cave in and start weight training to do it (I seriously love running). 3 more pounds till I reach my doctor's goal for me, 13 till I reach my goal (but that one is a moving target, up and down). My new school clothes, size 8, are starting to feel a tad too loose. I never thought I'd ever say that! For those who are at the beginning of this trip, let me tell you it really works if you play by the rules!

Hi. I am 8 weeks post op and am sooo exhausted. I've started making some bad food choices thinking they'll give me some boost of energy. Its really starting to pact my functionality at work and home. I'm starting to wonder if my cymbalta and thyroid meds aren't being fully digested. I just take them in their capsules. Anyone have similar experience? I'm literally taking 2 naps a day and am foggy headed.

Up until my official weigh in today I have still been in the obese range....despite losing over 110 lbs! Well, today a total loss of 117 lbs (so far) has finally bumped me down to being merely overweight. I assure you no female has ever been this happy to be overweight LOL

  25. I made the final decision to have RNY today, after much research. I called and made an appointment with the LPN at my Surgeon's clinic. I want to get as much info as I can before I start this process. I have a Band that needs to be removed, and then RNY in place. I've heard that this process has been done during one surgery, all at once. I also heard that Band's have been removed, then you wait a bunch of months to heal, then the RNY. People, let me know what you heard or know. ***** Since I have limited info till I see the LPN in November, I'd like to turn to those that have been there. ***** LIST WHAT QUESTIONS YOU THINK I SHOULD ASK, PLEASE.

I can not stop crying!! What an emotional day! I am overwhelmed with joy! To think back to how run down and depressed I was less than 6 months ago. I was in such a dark and scary place for so long. I dreaded little things like going to the grocery store. I would go late at night so less people would see me. I carried sooo much guilt and shame. I was embarrassed to pick my kids up from school because I never wanted to be "that" mom...and there I was. I would get comments from the kids when I would volunteer to help...one little girl asked me if I was having a baby and when I said no she asked why my belly was so big. Can't blame her but it still hurt. Now 5 months post …

The beach was such a different experience after losing 60 pounds. I could walk the beach without my thighs rubbing together (ladies, you know what I'm taking about). I had so much more energy to play with my kids and more confidence in a swimsuit. AND .... a guy hit on me at the bar! That has not happened in 15 years!! How much can I expect to lose within the first 12 weeks? I think I'll be an average to fast loser. That's usually the case. I've never had trouble losing weight but I always have trouble keeping it off. This will be the third time I lose 80+ pounds since 1999, and I hope it's the last!!

Well it's been a year. A very triumphant year if I may say so myself. I have lost 80 pounds and even though I have hit a plateau I have no doubt I will break through it soon. So much has changed...I went from sporadically active to exercising 6 days a week. I actually haven't missed a workout this entire year. I have NEVER been that committed to exercise...EVER!!! I don't really eat carbs, especially doughy ones. I watch my calories and track them. I choose Protein before other types of food. I went from wearing a size 20/22 to a 12 or 13 depending on women's or juniors. My tops and dresses are now medium instead of XXL. I can actually confidently by clothing with…

I had this surgery first and foremost to resolve my diabetes. I became diabetic after receiving huge doses of steroids closely followed by medication that had diabetes as a side effect. I had no pre diabetic period, I went from nothing to diabetic in the course of a few weeks after starting the new drug. The drug was to help with my arthritis. I was given the choice of stopping the drug and the diabetes would go. But I needed the drug to remain mobile so I didn't have a choice. But diabetes on top of my existing condition that needed additional management just pushed me towards depression. So I spent a year looking into the sleeve as a way of putting my diabetes into…

  47. I had my surgery on January 23, 2013. Since then, I've lost 119 pounds and I have 30 to go to reach my goal. I am 5 feet tall. My highest weight was 274. My weight now is 155. I do have a lot of saggy skin though. I'm hoping it will tighten up at some point. I do exercise a lot so I hope that helps.
