Alright, I decided to post a couple of NSV's that go through the warped mind of a paramedic, hopefully you all hearing how us warped individuals that save lives everyday think won't frighten anyone, lol. Most recent one was the other day I respond on a lift assist the classic I've fallen and can't get up, get to the house and as frequently is the case all the doors are locked, the patient is in the house and yells for us to break down the door, now I have been running on the ambulance for 23 yrs and am currently a Supervisor so don't do as much direct field work as I used to, so it's probably been at least 10 yrs since the last time I broke down a door and for the last …

Hello my fellow sleevers How has your journey been since surgery? I hope it's been great, and I hope you guys have found new things to appreciate in life, and new favorite things to enjoy in life Just wanted to see how people were doing. I did start light exercising after 6 wks out for about 2 months then I slowly stopped due to my busy work/school schedule, but within the last two months I made sure to make time to exercise and have been going at it at least 4 times a wk (cardio and wei…

I am a longtime lurker but this is my first post. I am not sleeved yet as I had to do a 6 month diet for my insurance. I failed miserably and now the NP in charge of the diet is holding up my team approval because of "compliance concerns." I am really upset. I thought the 6 moth diet was just a "hoop" or else I would have taken it more seriously. I am also really upset with myself. Why couldn't I pull it together for this supervised diet. I am a nurse and we HATE when people make excuses for being noncompliant. But here I am. Anyway, I have another month tacked on to the supervised diet to "prove myself." How did I get here? So ashamed.

I'm two weeks out from surgery today and I have lost 18lbs since surgery, 43 since the start of my preop liquid diet. I am pretty large so you can't tell much, but today I bit the bullet and joined a gym. I realized that this journey is for me and I'm going to make the most of my tool. I didn't care about what others might have thought about me or that I was sweating my butt off just walking on the treadmill, it was just about me pushing myself to be better. I'd say that is a great victory for me!

Went to the designer outlets yesterday and I purchased my first XL shirt! Yes, XL! That has been a LOOOOOOOOONG time since I could wear a XL. Its a little snug but It FITS! Pre surgery I was going into XXXXL (4X) Amazing feeling.. 8 weeks out today, 72lbs down forever. SO MUCH more clothes to choose from!

At 6 weeks post op I noticed that my contacts weren't fitting right anymore, and my glasses seemed blurry. Went in for an exam, indeed my eyes had changed and i bought two new pair of glasses, and new contacts. Now at 4 months post op, my eyes have changed again! I am a type 2 diabetic, and my blood sugar was really bad before my surgery (A1C was 10.7). My blood sugar is now under control and A1C is in the 6's. The optometrist says that affects the eye shape and I have become less nearsighted. Now I need all new lenses! That's for two pairs of glasses and contacts! Fortunately, it's not going to cost me that much, as the optical store is going to cover the new…

I started at 264 and now 219. Surgery was 4-22-13. I am having trouble feeling it and seeing it. I mean my clothes are loose and I see it a little. I cant wait until my brain catches up. i wonder how others see me? Can you tell a difference? Just a little or alot? I am serious, I am not being an attention *****. I dont need you to say "you look great"...Just whether it is noticable I lost weight. I was having trouble with the pictures, I added a side by side, but they are different sizes. My son was making me hold the sword.

I just thought i'd post because I had a total NSV today, I went shopping and found a cute pair of jeans that only had a size 20 left. It was one of those "lets see how much further I have to go" type moments and I put them on and they buttoned and fit PERFECTLY. I was jumping for joy. it's amazing how far ive come in such a short time and I want to thank everyone on here for your inspiration and encouragement. this surgery was definitely a blessing in disguise. I attached a picture of me wearing a size 30 and a picture I took in those jeans in the dressing room today

Hi there! I had my surgery on August 15th and so far I have had a complication free, speedy and very lucky recovery. I have lost 47 pounds including a one week pre-op which I am pretty excited for! Well I have an interesting story (I'll make it short, I promise) that I want to share with you. [below talks about lots of junk food - don't read if you are sensitive to that kinda thing, heh] Before getting the gastric sleeve I was an emotional eater. I binged multiple times a week and the only person who knows is my mom and a good friend of mine. Food was my best friend. I used to eat huge quantities, well over 10,000 calories at a time and end my day with a big thing of …

Does anyone else feel like they have on a fat version of beer goggles? When I look in the mirror I still see 60 pounds more than where I'm at. When I see others pictures that are my weight and even 20-30 pounds more I think "omg she looks so little and cute" and when I see that their weights are similar, I just don't see "that" when I look in the mirror. I know everyone's built differently and lose different, I'm not saying exactly, but just remotely. Also when someone of normal bmi states they want to lose 10-15 more pounds I wonder to myself "from where, there's no place left to lose that amount from, you look great now". I'm 5 pounds under my original modest goal and n…

Recovering from a long day of floating the river and after looking at the pics from the trip I actually liked what I saw. After 13 years of hating 95% of pictures I was in its nice to not cringe and untag myself from shared FB ASAP then send death threats to my friends that posted them lol. Would love to see others summer fun pics as well. We are all getting healthier and happier and summertime is a great way to show off the new you no more hiding behind others in pictures...show your stuff with your head held high Have to get back to civilization to upload some new before pics off my comp then I will post my summer fun pics as well

Went to fund raiser yesterday. Saw a few friends that I hadn't seen in a while. As I walked down the steps, one of my friends, thats seen recent pictures of me, pointed me out to another friend. The other friend didn't recognize me initially because she hadn't seen me since I started this healthier journey. It was too funny when she did, then she went crazy with compliments. Felt so good.

It's crazy.. When I was at my heaviest I would day dream about the day that I would finally be "skinny". I would day dream about all sorts of crazy things.. Some miracle pill that I could take and within days loose all my weight. Perhaps just magically wake up and it would all be gone. Or I even day dreamed as far as thinking.. even if a virus took over me so I was so sick, then I would loose all my weight. I realize that it was all ridiculous. They were but simple dreams that I never thought I would have. Eating was a poison for me. A bad habit. And it's not even that I would gorge myself or eat a plethora of food items per day. It was what I ate. Because I loved the tas…

I was banded on May 28th 2013. Started my pre op on May 15th @ 258lbs. I had severe sleep apnea. I weigh 203 today and feel like a new man. Somebody told me yesterday that I should stop losing weight I'm getting too skinny. I haven't heard that in a long time. This procedure is a lifesaver.

My surgery had been scheduled for this Tuesday, September 10th. On Thursday I went for my pre-surgical clearance from my PCP. Turns out that through the whole recent process (PST, Anesthesia consult, class) nobody 'noticed' that I am taking a high dose of steroids for the last month for what they 'think' is arthritis, although I have written it on each sheet I have filled out. Apparently as it turns out they are not only hurtful to your stomach, but they also slow down the body's ability to heal...not cool side effects for surgery that involves ones stomach... PCP didnt clear me I TOTALLY understand intellectually that postponing is the right thing to do, but I was …

My second fill was too restrictive and I spent the summer losing everything but weight (pbing, throwing up), not exercising; finally unfill last month and after a long plateau saw the scale go down a few pounds. But I felt much smaller than what the scale showed. I read someone else's success story here and it inspired me. She got an old size 8 pair of jeans back on. Well, I went to my closet and grabbed a favorite size 18 jeans I haven't be beern able to wear in a few years. In fact I tried to get in them last month with no success. Tonight they zipped up comfortably! Yay me!

Hello everyone, I just wanted to share my success. I have had a struggle with my first 10 weeks with my sleeve. It was not an easy initial transition. However I have stayed the course(no other option) and did my part to accept and embrace my sleeve and with good results. I went to my doctor for my 10 week follow up after my 2nd scope/dilation and things are looking up. I haven´t had complications since last Sunday and according to the scale ( I don´t have a scale-just wait until doc appointments to weigh in) I have lost a total of 55+ lbs as of yesterday. I am now 282.6. I am very pleases with myself and am even more motivated to continue my journey forward. I wa…

Just got back from my week long vacation in Colorado at the Dude Ranch... First I will say that 50 lbs ago I could not have done what I just did last week... I rode horses all day up and down the mountains.. We drove cattle, camped overnight in the mountains after riding 4 hours to get to the "cow camp"... The whole experience was very physical... walking to the barn each day was something I could not have done 50 lbs ago... I did gain a few lbs because the food was awsome but I didn't pig out.. They have everything to eat you would want... fruit, salads, breads, lots of beef (western) the best... fish and wonderful desserts.. I did not over indulge but I wasn't deprived.…

I want to take a second and explain why I listed this in Success Stories, as opposed to other forums that depending on the individual it might seem more relevant. I put it here because it is not just relevant to veterans, or it is just about food, or coping, or 'finding myself'. It is an NSV; in addition to everything else I consider it a vital part of who I am now and wanted to share with my support community. I have come to adopt a way of life now, or honestly I feel more often anymore that it has adopted me, it is something I have come to call my "True North". It is a paradigm shift, it is incredibly simple but seems so deceptively complex, but it is not complex at a…

Hi, everyone! I had my surgery in January of 2011 with Dr. Aceves and posted actively on this site for about 18 months; then got a new job and was busy. Eating just a little became a habit and not something I needed to think about all the time. At my lowest I weighed 134.5 but as my weight stabilized I stuck at 137.5-139, this morning I weighed 138. I find that I don't really need to think about counting calories any more or journaling my intake, it is just habit now, I kept track of everything in the beginning. I weigh myself every morning and I take my Vitamins religiously and mostly walk for exercise. I feel great and I think I look good too. My round face did get …

Okay maybe this is a stupid question but how is it that I don't get sick from eating cottage cheese, ricotta or yogurt but I get sick from drinking milk and eating cheese? Is it the fat?

I dont recognize myself and then i see all the wrinkles. my skin is falling off. so far this is an nsv for me, i am nearly 60 and have no illusions left. I see it as a badge of success. the only one that even comes close to bothering me is the belly. I shall see what it looks like when (if?) i get to goal and maintain it for a while. It would be interesting to get it removed at that time but from what i can tell the panniculectomy seems to be a far tougher surgery than the sleeve and i did not have the easiest time with that one.
