Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

Weight loss surgery success stories. Share your milestones, before and after photos, and non-scale victories.

  1. I'm just here to share my story in hopes of encouraging others, because this has not been easy! I was 318 about this time last year. I had my surgery on Janaury 9, 2013. Went fine, super easy. I was not successful on the pre-surgery diet and entered the process feeling like I was already a failure. I also had no restriction after the surgery. I could go to Wendy's and have a burger and fries. Again, I had no confidence that I could/would do this. When the Dr asked me my goals, I was so unsure I said lose maybe 30-40 pounds if that's possible. I had never successfully lost weight in my life. For me personally, it wasn't until I had about 5 cc's in my band that I s…

I recently had so much concern about the amount of food I could eat and the foods that I can eat. However, I know for sure what I am doing is working for my body. Ive had minor issues here n there but ive gottwn through them. The main thing people ask me is "Would you do it again?" My answer: "Yes I would do it over a million times. I was banded on July 24, 2013... Have lost 35 lbs total and am just wondering what everyone does to fight the head hunger that occurs when you're not hungry! I currently have 6.2 cc's in a 10 cc band .. Not at green yet but getting there! I have restriction but have learned how to eat around the band!!! I don't do it often and most days ... Especially when I am working and busy .. I follow the rules and do well! But I have days when I just fall off the wagon! I don't over eat .. EVER! My struggle is eating small things here and there and then I don't want my meals! Wouldn't be bad if I was eating good food choices but they are not! So... I need advice ... How do I …

Hi everyone!! I was sleeved 12/5/12. Today is my Surgiversary. I'm 5'4". I started out at 227 day of surgery. I'm down to 151. My Doctors goal weight for me was 150. Although I'm very pleased with my weight right now, I want to lose 11 more pounds to get to my personal goal and hopefully a size 6. I wear a size 8 pants and medium shirt and they're starting to get a little loose. I absolutely love my sleeve and am so grateful for the quality of life it has given me as well as the health benefits. My primary care physician cannot believe all of the health issues that have disappeared with my weight loss (high blood pressure, low oxygen level, joint pain, asthma, etc)! I'…

So it feels good to be saying almost two months out and I'm down 31.7 lbs! I had a minor set back with a flipped port which was fixed Monday with a 2 CC fill. I'm not in the green zone, but do notice I get fuller much quicker than before. I'm thankful for this site to be able to share success and vent frustration as needed. It's nice to have some many supportive people that know exactly what I'm going through happy weekend!

10 months out..what!? I stepped on the scales for my weekly weigh in yesterday and weighed 325.8....325.8!!!!!!!!! I was 417 when I started my pre op diet..so since Jan 31, 2013 I have lost 91.2 lbs..Excuse my language..but HOLY SHIT!! Lap band is still the best decision I have ever made for myself and I absolutely wouldnt change anything. There are times I have ate too fast and had to throw up, but that just brings me back to reality real quick. When I walked into my dr's office on Jan. 16th to schedule my surgery I told my surgeon that I would be successful no matter what I had to do and he smiled and said yes you will, I have no doubts. Here I am at the 6 month mark. I was one who thought I was going to be a "slow loser" from the beginning. My first week after surgery I barely lost 2 lbs. The week after that wasn't much either. I kept reading about people who would say "WOW, I lost 18lbs my first week!" and at first was a little discouraged but soon talked myself away from that reminding myself that I didn't have as much to lose as those who lost such large amounts in the beginning. This is my journey and mine only. I can't compare myself to how others have done. Well, those 2 or 3lbs here and there have certainly added up. At 6 months I am 70lbs down and about 33lbs from my goal. It's been an amazing jo…

  17. I am currently smaller than I have been in at least 15 years. I can't remember what I weighed when I started college but I'm pretty sure that I haven't been this close to 200 since high school. My goal was to be 197 on Christmas. That will put me 9 months out from surgery and I will have lost 100 pounds since surgery. AND I think I can make it. I was lucky that I lost some weight before surgery so I've currently lost right at 129 pounds total and I am so thankful that I had a sleeve done. It has been one of the best decisions I've EVER made and I have no regrets (of course other than the typical "that I didn't have it done sooner" ). I have always been happy with w…

Hi there and happy holidays all! Today I went for a follow-up appointment with the surgeon and had a second fill. The last one was a week ago today. I wasn't sure that I'd get another fill so soon as I am satisfied with a small amount of food. However I am hungry again after a couple of hours. My surgeon's goal is a serving the size of a tennis ball and not to be hungry again for 4-5 hours. We went for it, and, just like last week, it was very easy. I was glad to have him inspect the port site because it is tighter and harder now that it has some saline in it and I wondered if that is normal. Yep. He marked the site with a pen then cleaned the area with alcohol a…

I teach at a college and when the Fall semester began I was struggling to get into size 16 jeans. I had my LapBand on September 12, 2013 and I am so thankful. It is not magic and I work hard. I am a food addict, I didn't get to 250 eating broccoli and rice cakes. I am learning so much about myself and gaining a whole new since of control. I am making better choices and learning to look at food as fuel. Do I still like brownie? Hell yes! The difference is that I can have just one brownie and REALLY appreciate it. We…

At 166 pounds well below my 1st goal of 185, then 2nd goal of 175 with a height of 5'9"+ I can say I'm smaller than I was at 13. I could not have dreamed being below goal this soon. I can go up amd downstairs with not being out of breath, cross my legs, take up less space in the chair. Park farther from the store walk long distances. And get all my protien intake done. I love my sleeve. :-) The hardest part has been your head realizing how your body has changed. I usually don't post much, but I do read the wonderful things so many of you share on this site. However, today...I want to share my mini victory. I had lapband surgery back in Mar. 2007. I was hoping this would help with losing the weight I needed to lose. Well, 6 yrs. later (after 4 yrs. of band problems) I was able to have my band removed and a revision to a VSG on 5/20/13. When I began this leg of the weightloss journey, many folks I knew asked "what size" I wanted to be and I usually told them I didn't really know because the lowest size I can remember ever being with a "woman's body" (boobs & butt) was a size 14. So, today I offically (and comfortably) wor…

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled that I was in size 12's for maybe a month. The only downside to this downsize is that I found an amazing Eddie Bauer dress at Goodwill Select for only $6.99. As if what I paid for it wasn't enough for me to love it, I have to say that I've never looked better in anything I've ever worn before. When I look at myself in the mirror, I am in awe at how good I look wearing this dress and it's really hard knowing that we'll soon have to part. It's already too big for me, but I am hoping to get at least one more wear out of it. It would take a master seamstress to alter this for me, there are so many different cuts and darts...I'd hate for …

Today I put on a pair of jeans that were so tight 3 months ago that I could barely breathe with them on, and they were so loose all over that I could get them off easily without unbuttoning them! Tonight I had hubby take measurements since I hadn't done any for almost 6 months. From June until now I've lost 2" in each calf, 2" in my hips, and almost 7" in my waist! It's unbelievable. It's clearly too big for me, but it looks and feels great so I'm going to keep wearing it until it doesn't look right anymore. Anywhoooooo...went shopping for a dress to wear for a wedding tomorrow and found one that I'd seen at a high-end store for $229.00 at a different store marked down to $49.99 - I'd fallen in love with it at the higher price, but wasn't about to spend that much on it right now...it's not my wedding and I don't even know the people. The marriage didn't last too long, but I kept the suit because it was so expensive...and very pretty even though a year after the wedding, I was already too large to wear it. Why I never got rid of it, I have no idea...but I've taken it with me every time I moved. Well, just for the heck of it, I tried it on to see how close I was to the size I was 15 years ago. Well....you're gonna have to go and open the pics.....

  40. So....I've been struggling for a number of months with hair loss. Along with taking the Biotin, extra Protein, and Vitamins, I changed up my hairstyle a bit to try to minimize the thin spots. For the first time in a very long time, my hair is really short and unfortunately now thin enough that my ear lobes are quite visible. I finally decided today that I might as well take advantage of this situation and put on a pair of earrings. Usually I don't bother because: A) my hair used to cover my ears...and... 2) after a couple of hours, my ears would hurt and I'd have to take the earrings out. Well...I've had them in all day and they aren't bothering me at all. I swe…

Well, the long-anticipated first fill was this afternoon. It was over before I knew it! Very, very easy. Nice check-in with the surgeon and I told him how I've been getting hungrier and then hungry again sooner, etc. I did not have hunger immediately following the surgery and thought I might be one of those people who never require a fill. He thought that was pretty funny -- apparently that is very rare (except the plication banders). So this is what transpired: he felt around for my port and marked it with a pen (they don't use fluroscopy unless there's a problem), sterilized the area, gave an injection of pain killer (forget what it was -- Lidocain or one of the …

  48. I loved this article from Forbes for two reasons. One, it should help us realize that as WLS patients,we had the mental strength to make some tough choices. Certainly we took calculated risks, and did not shy away from change. Two, it shows us what parts of us we could strengthen daily. Which strengths do you think you have? Which ones are you working on? For all the time executives spend concerned about physical strength and health, when it comes down to it, mental strength can mean even more. Particularly for entrepreneurs, numerous articles talk about critical characteristics of mental strength—tenacity, “grit,” optimism, and an unfailing ability as Forbes con…
