Hi! I am new to the site! I started my variate is surgery process 6 years ago with the plans to have bypass and again 5 years ago with the same plans but two deaths in my family made me decide that it was a sign! So 6 months ago I started again with the sleeve in mind and everything seems to be falling into place! My 6 months are up and the info is being submitted to the insurance company hopefully today! My HW was 316. My SW was 278 (I actually lost 20 lbs before I started my 6 months) my CW is around 240. I have always been the famous yoyo dieter and I don't want to do that anymore! I am an RN and it is difficult to tell my patients what to do to be healthy…

Hello everyone. I have be lurking for a few months and am excited to make my first post. So my story is the same as many others with weight. However I started this process last month and have been cleared for surgery already. My date is the 26th of this month. Kinda scared me when it all went so fast as many stories here talk about months and even years of waiting. I feel I am ready and have as much knowledge about the procedure and lifestyle change coming. I guess I was expecting months of waiting and lots of time to ponder. Don't mean to sound arrogant or insensitive to those who do end up waiting a long time I just want to make sure there is nothing I have overlooked i…

Well, I did it and it's over! I have to say I'm not feeling as pain free as many have posted they were, but we are all different. I'm home now and doing my best to be comfortable in the recliner. If I take pain medicine it's not an issue- I get relaxed and go to sleep. But, I am trying to take it only when I just have to. I'm extremely worried about getting all my liquids in. It's so much the doctor expects and I desperately want to prevent dehydration but I can only sip like a baby bird right now because it hurts me to drink more than that at a time. It seems impossible but I guess it is not. To be completely honest, this is the most painful thing I've ever experienced a…

I'm 3 months post op...I still sometimes have weird pains on the side of my abdomen...the pain would be described as if doing too many crunches kinda sore stretching type pain, or even sharp shooting.. My surgeon said it's normal and should go away, especially the incision area near the ribs is one of the most complained about. Sometimes the pain is pretty intense. Anyone experience anything like this?

After waiting for weeks of evaluations and approval I think I am finally reaching somewhere. I am scheduled for surgery on April 7th. The reality of it all is now facing me. I am wondering if I can do the pre op drinks for 14 days. I guess I will know what I am really made of. ha, ha!! !!!! I have refrained from informing people around me except my immediate family. I just don't want to hear the negatives. This is for me and no one else. My knees are telling me, my so many medications are telling me, my diabetes is telling me. I have to get healthy. I have not mastered eating with no drinking, and the slow chewing. I tend to forget. I have also done 2 food fune…

Hello. My name is Mandie. I'm 28 years old and I have alway been over weight. I had tried so many different weight loss methods from extreme dieting to medication. Well after 10 of no luck I decided to look into WLS. I started my journey in August of 2013, and just came home from having my surgery on 3/4/2014. So I am 2 days post op and idk how to really explain it and could def use some advise... Here's my dilemma. I'm on the phase 2 clear liquid diet. I am drinking what I need to to stay hydrated and I'm taking my vitamins and other medications that my dr put me on. I just don't see. To get the "full" feeling. Is this because I'm only on clear liquids or am I doing s…

I'm getting sleeved in exactly 2 weeks from today so of course I had to start my diet. To say the least it's not that bad. Started off breakfast with a Premier Vanilla protein shake. Lunch soup, snack sugar free chocolate pudding.. For dinner I'll have another protein shake and late snack fat free yogurt... I can do this!

Wow! Can't believe it's almost time to go back to the OR. I have been considering this surgery since August of last year and had my first appointment in October. I am both thrilled and nervous to be taking this step, but after 15 years of being overweight and miserable, I know that this is the right thing to do. Doesn't make it easier, but at least I am certain. I had zero trouble with the pre op liquid diet. In fact, it helped me with a lot with the GI issues I have had over the past 3 years since my gallbladder came out. I have enjoyed reading everyone's stories on the forum, and will now endeavor to be a regular contributor. Best of luck to us all!

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I am also new to gastric bypass surgery. My surgery date is April 21st and while I am not scared I am curious to know what to expect immediately after surgery. I know that I will be sipping from a medication dose cup and that I will have to do a clear liquid diet for two weeks prior to my surgery date, I am interested to know how that went for people who have already had their surgery and if there are any suggestions as to what I can be diong to prepare myself for this. I have already started losing weight by eating more fruits and veggies and walking everyday and I feel good that I have gone down from 310 lbs to 292 in the last three week…

Hi everyone! I'm just starting out on my VGS journey. After many hard fought attempts to shed this weight on my own, I've decided to look into WLS. I'm 28 years old with a BMI of 40 at the moment. I'm going to a information session at my preferred hospital (Cleveland clinic) to get more info and weigh (no pun intended) out my options. This is a very scary decision. I have a friend who just went through VSG in October and he has had amazing results and says it's the best decision he's ever made. So here I am! I have a 3 year old autistic daughter and I just want to make sure I live a full life to best care for her. I can not live my 30's the way I have my 20's. I'm So gl…

Last time I was in to see my doctor, I mentioned to her that I had been eating the Progresso Light soups because they were so good and so low in calories and they seemed to satisfy me. She warned against them saying they were considered 'slider food'. I slowed way down in eating them but it got me wondering why if soup is a slider food why isn't my protein shake or my high protein yogart considered slider foods. That's what I eat every morning for breakfast and the doctor has no problem with that. Any ideas on what the difference is?

I had my bypass surgery on 02/19/14. During my two week pre-op diet I dropped 15 lbs. My surgery weight was 303. Two night hospital stay was OK. the only real issue was sleeping....I sleep on my stomach. I have had very little pain or discomfort. Other than some very minor gas pain Sunday, not much to speak of. scale said 295 this morning! Pleasantly surprised how this has gone so far....especially since this is just the beginning of a new lifestyle. On my way to a new me!

Was wondering if anyone else has experienced what I'm experiencing. I had my sleeve done on 09/23/2013. I have progressed wonderfully but in the past couple of weeks I can no longer finish a container of yogurt. Before I could finish with no problem. I still use baby spoons to eat with as not to take to large a bite. It's like my stomach shrug. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Thanks in advanced.

Hi all, after 5 months of appointments, I have been approved for gastric sleeve surgery! My date is April 15, 2014! Honestly? I'm a mess. I didn't expect to be. I didn't think I would have the date for at least another two weeks. I know it's good to get it over with. But I feel like I'm falling apart. Intellectually I know I'm doing the right thing. Emotionally, I'm overwhelmed and feeling broken. Can anyone relate?

So, today was my first day of the two week shake diet before my bypass scheduled for the 26th of this month. I started the day with a good attitude and looking forward to starting this adventure. Trying to be organized, I made up my Breakfast and lunch shakes for today last night before I went to bed. I sat down at the table this morning to have shake #1 and nearly vomited. It was awful! It was thick like cake batter and I couldn't even drink the entire thing. Same with the shake I brought along to work for my lunch. I realized the trick to drinking them is NOT to mix them up until right before I'm ready to drink them. Any tips or suggestions?

Have any of you heard of exercise bulimia?????? I had not until a few minutes ago when I ran across it on a fitness forum. Apparently, if you are so concerned about calories that you have to exercise yourself sick and sore until you burn up every calorie you just ate, that is exercise bulimia. When I read about it, my first thought was that I am going to have to watch out for that. I think horrible thoughts about my own weakenesses, especially if I am in a stall and the pounds are not coming off in spite of my best efforts. Then, I feel like I have to drop the housework or my genealogy project or disrupt my sleep or avoid the next meal so that I can go exercise…

Hi! This is my first post. I am new to my health plan (Kaiser) and met my GP for the first time today. It was initially for a physical, but it became a discussion of weight loss surgery instead. To my surprise, she is all for it. I thought that I would have to go through a million and one hoops, but I guess just being newly diagnosed with diabetes, having PCOS, and being in the "extreme obesity" range sold it for me. All I have to do is get blood work done to see where my over-all health is, take some online class and that's it - I get a referral. Cool. Just sad that my husband is having a harder time of it with the VA. He needs this, too. So, while I am excit…

Hello all, I'm 50 years old and finally decided its time to seek weight loss surgery after a life time of yo-yo dieting. I have had periods of success, losing over 100lbs twice on weight watchers. I'm active and do Water aerobics 3-5 times per week. I generally make healthy choices I just am a bulk eater so I'm consuming too many calories. I give this background because although I've done the research and for so many reasons feel the sleeve is the best choice for me, my surgeon tells me that research shows with my BMI of 60 that bypass is a better procedure due to the lack of absorption of caloric nutrients. Well that's one of the things that bothers me. I wan…

This is a follow up thread to the posting recently made by Jamilyne. She asked if there were foods that you missed eating since becoming banded. I thought it was a fun discussion. So, as a follow up, are there any foods that you thought you loved but now realize, not so much? For me it's hotdogs. Now that we really have to chew, chew, chew our food, you really get the opportunity to extract the flavor from the food. I now think that the actual taste of a hot dog is horrible. I guess pre-banding, I swallowed the hotdog in big chunks and really didn't taste all of the awful fat & byproducts in the hotdog. Do you have a food that you use to love that you now see it…

I went in for Gastric bypass last week and was weighed in at 211 i am 5'7 60 yrs old (a kinda youthful 60 ha ha)... anyways in pre-op i actually had my Doctor paged and told him to do sleeve instead of full by pass. Procedure was performed i am now 4 days in healing. Doing ok. My pre-op "classes" and preparation for what the heck to do now and ongoing is waaay lacking tho. Any suggestions? i know not what to eat.... well i know phase 1,2,3 stuff a bit. But just in general looking for direction or…

Hi Banders, I was banded on December 20th, 2013 & has only lost 4 pounds. Why is that? My meals are much smaller than before I was banded, I drink protein shakes, & recommended amounts of water & liquids daily. I get my 2nd fill tomorrow March 10th. I haven't really exercised yet, just a few minutes here & there due to Illinois having a terrible winter (I love to walk) & my house isn't big enough to have a treadmill or any other exercise equipment. I've never been the one to spend my money in a gym membership because they charge too much. I've also noticed that my stomach growls often & I'm gassy & belch a lot. My Dr said he's never had a pat…
