Hello all! I am a little less than 6 weeks away from my sleeve surgery on April 16th. This whole journey has been a whirlwind and happening much faster than I had anticipated. It was less than 2 months ago that my PCP at Kaiser submitted my referral to the bariatric department and I was approved right away. I have mixed feelings about Kaiser, but after reading about the anxiety and wait many people have had to experience awaiting insurance approval, I'm grateful I was approved early without issues. Kaiser is a center of excellence and I have been thrilled with the wholistic approach they take with their clients. While Northern California Kaiser does not make you take 6 m…

Had surgery Feb 12 to remove band and get sleeve but, too much scar tissue so they only removed the band. There were lots of people getting surgery but I was the only one still in recovery for 8 hours. I couldn't get out of the anesthesia. It's happened before. Oxygen level was low so I was on oxygen for the duration. Finally, I was released. I was sooo upset cause I didn't want to go back again to have another surgery but the Dr thought it was best this way. For 3 days I felt miserable cause I had 4 incisions and they hurt. The pain meds were making me very dizzy so i stopped taking them and held the pain. I was able to work after a week. I've been scheduled for the slee…

Almost 8 months out exactly, and I have hit my goal weight! Woo hooooo!!! This is just the beginning, I know, but it feels GREAT! I love this little sleeve of mine! It truly has been a journey, and at times rather challenging, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It has been the best decision I ever made for my health and my life. Thanks to all you out there in forum land for all the posts and advice and support. Couldn't have done this without you. Cheers! Keep on keepin' on, sleevers!

Hi everyone! It has been a few days since I have posted. I had my surgery March 3rd. Everything went great. I stayed in the hospital 2 nights and almost 3 because my heart rate was elevated. Luckily it went down and I was able to go home. I have been doing great! Pain is minimal now and I couldn't be happier. I had a hernia surgery a few years back and it hurt a lot more and was an outpatient procedure. Anyhow, I am so happy I did this and can't wait till I start seeing results.

In the past I have had ovarian drilling, endometriosis burning, and exploratory surgery on my ovaries. Has anyone else been through this who can compare the pain levels between any of those and VSG? Each of those surgeries were done in a similar manner with small incisions in the abdomen and gas pumped in. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, in my last post I expressed that I was nervous about taking another stress test due to being already delayed for months, well I received a call from my cardiologist this past Thursday and he advised me that he went over my records and determined that another stress test wouldn't be needed, YAE!!!! Needless to say that took a huge relief off of my shoulders he also advised me that he would go ahead and fax the clearance over to my surgeon, this was a wonderful call considering that I have a follow up appointment with him on march 13 and he decided to call me beforehand to give me the news, he knows how anxious I am about this surgery, I've talked his ear off a…

I'm only 6 days out after surgery and I'm recuperating pretty quick. I'm so happy I did it! My body wants to move around. I walk from one side of the house to the other it's too cold and snowy to talk outside so that's what I've been doing. I'm thinking of possible joining the gym next month. Do you guys know how long I have to wait after lap band surgery to start working out? And then at the gym what will I be capable of doing?

Hi I'm two & 1/2 weeks out from surgery. At time of surgery I was 223. So far I've only lost 16 pounds, 207 lbs. I'm on my liquid diet & I gained "2 lbs" was 207lbs now 209lbs. I drink powerade zero, my stomach isn't tolerating water. I do get my soups from Olive Garden, pot belly, & panara bread. I'm shure there not the best choices but it's only two Tbls, twice a day & my stumach has always been finicky so if something actually sits well I eat that. Also my protein drink is called core power, which I love & only 100 cal/20g protein but there's 11g sugar. Could this be why I've gained weight or stalling weight loss? please let me know.

Hello! I have a question? I am on puréed proteins for a week. I had my surgery on March 3rd. When I eat I am never getting that really full feeling like I thought I would get. I just get a tightness feeling right in the middle of my cheat when I am done with food. Does that mean you are full? Thanks everyone!

Today I started my 2 week Pre-Op and it has definitely been a challenge, but I know I am on a road of a better beginning and am excited to see my new journey ahead. Below I have given an example of what I have eaten today, and I am hungry but not starving like I thought I would be. The Protein shakes I user are the whey Protein and they are super good, they are really like having a desert so I am pleased with that. Only 12 more days until my Surgery (March 19th) the day I am reborn to become a healthy individual and use my tool to help benefit my life. Breakfast 12 oz. Protein shake (sugar cookie) lunch 2oz grilled Tyson chicken ½ cup zucchini/onion 6oz chicken b…

Had my steri strips and stitches removed and given the go ahead for mushies. I had 3oz egg salad. Low fat mayo, little shredded cheese, and hot sauce. A few minutes ago, I had 4 tablespoons of hummus. Wow, enjoying today. Funny the differences in 3 weeks ago and today. Down 34 pounds total.

Hi! I have been participating in a weight loss program with Cherokee Nation Health Services. I have had some success on my own with diet change and exercise, but I have had this sort of success before and then gained it all back and more. Now I'm furthering my weight loss journey and having the gastric sleeve surgery! My surgery is finally scheduled for February 25, 2014! I have been working towards this date since June 2012! I am a nurse and have had a large amount of education pertaining to weight loss surgery. I also have personal experience with weight loss surgery. My mother, aunt, and cousin as well as several close friends have had weight loss surgery, including g…

On Wednesday I will be four months out -- my workout partner took my picture this morning. Happy to be losing the linebacker look. A lot of contour has disappeared and I am feeling so much healthier. Now on to the next 35 pounds. My theme for this month: March, it's a verb -- get moving! I really want to be in good shape this summer. Happy weekend, all!

I had my surgery on February 4, 2014. I lost 12 lbs going into the surgery, gained 8 lbs days after surgery, and have lost a total of 43 lbs. My first two weeks home have been pretty uneventful and although I've been approved to eat mushy foods, I'm not having the best of times. I am having a hard time chewing (wear braces), food tastes horrible, and I feel extremely limited. I am able to keep focused and just eat to live but I have to know that this is going to get better. My ultimate goal is to lose at least 85 lbs and anything after that is going to be a blessing and a result of a total lifestyle change. All things I have faith will happen. I am already feelin…

I have been thinking about else for years. In January of this year I made a final decision to take charge of my life. I was very lucky, I had all of my prerequisites done in 2 weeks and I was approved by the insurance in 1 week. My surgery date is 3/5/14. I can't believe how the time flew by, it doesn't seem real that my surgery is tomorrow. I have been reading a lot of the posts on here and it has helped me a lot. I was anxious for my surgery date to get here, but now that it's here I am really nervous.

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking the message boards for awhile now, and I just wanted to take some time to introduce myself and share my story. This site has been extremely helpful in providing information and support. I’m very grateful it’s here, and even more grateful for all of you! Like most of us, I’ve been overweight all my adult life. It started back in my teens. I’ve tried Weight Watchers several times, Nutrisystem, Ideal Protein, and I can’t even estimate the money wasted on gym memberships, diet pills, and exercise equipment. In my early 40s, I was diagnosed as Type II Diabetic, and at the turn of this year, at 49 years old, I found myself on a dozen differe…

Hi! I've been a long time lurker on the site and I'm just now getting up the nerve to post. I'm hoping/planning to get sleeved this summer. My insurance doesn't cover WLS (thank you, stupid employer), so I'll be self pay and I think I'll be having it done in Mexico. I haven't decided which doctor yet, but I'm excited. And nervous. And thrilled. And worried. And happy. And scared.

I am scheduled to be sleeved on March 3rd. My pre-op diet starts next week. I have so many emotions going through my head right now...excitement, nerves, anticipation, worry...it's unreal! I know at 5'4 and 228 pounds, that it's time to take this weight off for good! I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about complications but for the most part, I am a very healthy person and I do try to think positive. I try to think about what it will be like to shop for clothes that will look great on me. Sometimes though, I look at my 3 daughters and worry about "What if something goes wrong?". I'm worried about going from full eating to a liquid diet for 2 weeks before surge…

For me, I see it as I have now lost 8 years worth of weight. I know others talk about "I haven't been this weight in 5 (or 10 or 25) years", and this is similar, but possibly a little different. For many of us, the extra weight is a reflection of so many emotions we carry around with us. Baggage. So what I am trying to visualise when I think about how far I have come, is all those emotions being peeled off pound by pound with my weight. In a way I think, if I can let go of these layers of fat I have encased myself with, I can let go of these emotions, these feelings, and not be weighed down by them anymore either, you know? There's this version of me that only I and peo…

Hi; I don't post very often, I sit back and look at all the wonderful stories. Sunday a very good friend of mine mad me feel really bad about my weight lost. She told me my weight lost was scary to her. I had my surgery December 16th 2013, I weighted 247lbs now I'm at 206. I told her that's what the surgery does. I can't eat but so much plus my Surgeon wants me to walk, so I'm doing that and I guess that's what's taken the weight off so fast considering I'm only able to get between 500 or so calories in. So I guess I will stop walking and just let it come off but only if I'm getting 500 or so calories in me. What y'all think. Feeling discour…

I'm 2 months out (03/10) and for the last week, I've been having pain when eating. I'm chewing my food but even mashed potatoes hurt when they hit my chest area. I mean pretty severe pain. I'm to the point that a couple of days I simply drank Protein shakes since they only make me burp. I don't want to go without eating though because that will surely sabotage the little metabolism burning that I have left. I suffer with severe reflux but this is not related. This feels more like someone has literally kicked me in the chest when I swallow. Has anyone else experienced this type of pain?

Tried fish yesterday(salmon) and omg it was the worst choice I've made since surgery after a few bites I felt like I had just had a greasy hamburger and was full but then it seem like it was stuck in my throat and esophagus. I managed to drink a Lil water and went to bed woke up this morning and I still feel like somethings in my throat. I'm just gone stick with my cottage cheese, scrambled eggs and cream of wheat. I'm scared to try anything else. I don't like this feeling at all.

Lap-band done in 2009, lost 50lbs but gained all of the it back, suffered 2 much with food getting stuck, I even got a hernia now L. Port got infected and emergency surgery on 1/14/14. Doctor only removed the port even though it was agreed that the whole lap-band was to be removed. The doctor assumed that he could put another port on the right side of my stomach, which made me very upset, since it was agreed on 1/13/14 and even minutes before the surgery on 1/14/14 that the whole thing was to be removed. I suffered and still is as of 3/4/14 with pains due to the infection my lymph nodes got enlarged , they are producing a lot of pains at times. I even made it to the …
