I’m a 5 foot 11 inch tall 25 year old male who is scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery on July 23rd. I had my consultation with the surgeon on February 22nd and he stated I do not need to lose any weight before surgery. My dietitian said the same thing and to continue the diet I have been on since December. I have lost 20 pounds in the last 3 months by changing my diet to much cleaner foods and walking my dog for roughly 30 minutes a day. I was 278lbs December 19th 2017 and now on April 2nd I weigh in at 258lbs. I cut out almost all carbs and artificial sweets in the morning and replaced them when egg white omelets with cut up vegetables and half a cup of oatmeal with…

Sup fellas! (And/or ladies who have snuck in here[emoji23]) Been awhile but my first thing is I have lost just short of 120 pounds to the day since my surgery 07/17/17 And am feelin GREAT! (Picture attached). My biggest concern is the amount of what I can consume. I can eat a good 8-9 OZ steak AND a few bites of spinach or whatever veggies I accompany with my protein. I have been working out hardcore lately but is that still normal for us? I ALWAYS eat protein first. A few weeks ago I consumed 2 baked chicken legs and a wing with some wiggle room for a few bites of steamed broccoli. Am I OVER eating? I have also never came across something that my pouch disagreed with. (I…

Hi Guys, I’ve recently had some family drama pop up and I’m disappointed to say that I got dragged into it and fed the proverbial beast. However, when talking about it with a friend of mine I had an epiphany of sorts and I realized that in the long run the issue really didn’t matter that much to me. I made the decision at that moment to not address this issue or any other crap that does not directly affect me or my wife or kid. I’ve found that I need to eliminate stress in my life to be successful in my weight loss and for my own peace of mind. I have done this in the past when I lost a significant amount of weight and it made realize that I can only contro…

April will mark my 2 year anniversary of my sleeve. I still haven't told anyone at work, only my immediate family knows and 2 extremely trusted friends. The comments as regarding speculation have almost gone as no one seems to even remember the "fat" me anymore. I'm now the size they see and know. Anyone one else done this, in regards to not telling or talking about it. I found it interesting a few weeks ago, I was playing poker and sat next to a gentleman that had done the gastric bypass. We had a very interesting conversation about the differences between his surgery and a sleeve. I could tell he was curious as to how I knew so much about it and I was able to play…

Just curious for some of you what your longest stalls were and how far along you were post-op that you had your first stall? I had bypass on 10-17-17 I started my journey in Jan of last year I was 581 I was 475 on surgery day Today I’m 404 but I have been 404-408 since 2/18 Still doing all the right things or at least I think I am. I’ve also tried upping and lowering my calories no luck. I’m trying to not get down about it but I just have this goal of being 399 or less and my first major milestone and to be at 404 and having this stall like I have been is getting to me. Just curious any advice or encouragement any of you other guys have for me as I keep telling myself…

I was sleeved last week and I’ve only lost 6 lbs. I’m currently 309 but thought the pounds would fall off this week especially since I’m not taking in more than 600 calories a day and walking 3-4 miles. Waaaay less and waaay more than I did pre-op.

Hey Guys, Where any of you required to have a fitness evaluation prior to Surgery? I'm have at my surgeons office this morning waiting for my evaluation appointment. Just not sure if this is common or not. No matter what I still have to get it done. I'll let you know what it entailed. Discipline isn't a war to be won, but rather a battle to be fought daily.

I got the call yesterday to schedule my WLS. I was in my counselor’s office waiting for my appointment to start and I got the call! I’ve got tell you I was floored. I’ve been trying to find out the status of my case, and was checking to make sure they had all of the paper work they needed. I had no idea that they submitted everything to the insurance company for review and approval. Like many, I’m sure, I was thrilled, excited scared, worried, uncertain etc., etc. When my counselor came to get me for my appointment she knew right away something was odd. LOL, more so than normal. I told her and I found that I was starting to come up with reasons why I should wai…

Hey I started this journey about a year ago, had surgery at the end of July 2017 Started on the high side of 460 Pre surgery weight loss had me start around 430 I'm now in the 350s, going to the gym 2-3/week as well I'm asking because my doctor's office says that I'm at where I need to be, that I should be expecting between 10-15lbs/month lost, I'm at 11lbs/month, I'm going to the gym and building strength and endurance through cardio and weighlifting, I'm sure some of my mass is also with building muscles. I see that some people here have posted numbers that kill my own. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be. Complicating ma…

Fellas, I’m scheduled for surgery 1/3/18 I’m having the sleeve. I’m 35 years old and 6’5” around 363 but I’m really concerned about excess skin after. It’s to the point I’m reconsidering my decision to go forward with the surgery. I really need this surgery due to some health issues but the excess skin issue is really starting to deter me. Any advice?

One of the most common reasons for ED is being very obese, which has certainly been true for me. My question for those who have lost a lot of weight and who had ED -- did it get better?

Hi, My name's Jerry. I live in NY. My wife and I are both getting sleeved. My wife's procedure is this Friday and mine is on Feb.10th. My current weight is 255 and I'm 6'0". I have many health problems which is why my insurance is covering it. I have high blood pressure, High cholesterol, sleep apnea and chronic back pain. My doctor said it doesn't help that I'm carrying around a 75 lb backpack lol Anyone else here start out at a relatively "low" weight ? Did it affect how fast you lost the weight ? any problems with loose skin etc ? Take care

As good luck would have it, I slipped on a small patch of ice while jogging (someone was running their sprinklers in 20 degree weather & I didn't see the ice in the dark). I have a consult with an orthopedist next week, but have been diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff. If I have to have surgery, I'm kind of nervous about the effect that this will have on my exercise routine, as it looks like the recovery from surgery is pretty long. Anyone have any experience with rotator cuff surgery or physical therapy?

I just had a revelation that I have fallen back to pre-surgery old/bad habits like: eating out in the car and throwing the evidence away so I don’t feel guilty. I have gained 40 lbs back from my lowest weight and tried to justify that by saying its all muscle weight since I weight train 4 days a week. Any advice or words of encouragement are welcome I’M STRUGGLING!

I've been here since 2014 and one of the things I always find odd is how so many people chose goal weights that are still classified as overweight. It seems to be rather split among the sexes too. Not sure why people don't want to get down below a 25. Like they somehow think that they won't look good or something? I finally got to a normal BMI and even I want to go lower because I can still see things I need to improve.

Anyone else noticing that as your weight goes down your level of aggressiveness goes up? I almost got into a fist fight at an ARCO station in Salinas on Sunday. Without even thinking I was ready to escalate a petty verbal confrontation. Luckily the other guy backed down, got back into his car, and drove away. This would never have happened a year ago. I'm thinking this has to do with increased testosterone levels.

Well, I was with my ex at the time of the surgery. I am not gonna lie. She could not turn me on after my surgery. hate to say it, but I threw that relationship away for a new one. It was to the point that with my ex, it felt like work and was not enjoyable for me anymore. My sex drive was dead. So,yes I did leave that relationship. And now, with my new relationship, holy smoke balls Batman!! I feel like a teenager again. She gets to the point where she can not keep up with me. Lol. But back to the point with the ex. There was more there that made me want to call it quits with the ex. But that is nether here nor there. I didn’t break up with her cause the sex.…

I will be getting gastric bypass surgery next month on February 8th. Right now, I am in pretty bad shape and can only really walk for short amounts of time. If I try to do too much, I am left limping from back, knee, hip, and ankle pain. I have a high tolerance for the pain but it is like an 8/10. I understand the importance of physical activity, especially post-surgery. What's the best way to get started? How often did you exercise, post-op? What kinds of small goals did you set for yourself?

The past week or so I've felt like I just don't care. I don't care about my job, writing in my journal, cooking, cleaning, being with my family. You name it, I don't care. To be clear, I don't want to hurt myself or do anything radical. I'm just tired of struggling every day. I know life isn't easy but it feels like I'm pushing a boulder uphill every friggin day.

Have any of you guys experienced skin related issues post surgery? Things like rashing, irriated skin, jock itch, and/or things like that post surgery? I've notice since having the surgery I've had more issues with my skin than anything else. More ache in my face, and more like jock itch issues. What gives?

I started this journey in August... At my September appointment I weighed my HW at a svelte 429. In late October I kicked it into high gear. Tomorrow is my RnY surgery. At last check, two days ago, I was at 368. So we are talking 20ish lbs/month currently. After surgery what rates of loss where you guys experiencing? sent from an android...

I was sleeved today, 6/28. Everything was smooth- just experiencing a little gas pain and some reasonable incision discomfort. All in all, the surgery itself was a success. Now, the hard part... When I started this process I weighed about 270 (Im 5'10). I got to 245 on the pre-op diet. Any guys start around that weight? If so, where have you gotten, or where did you ultimately end up? I'm hoping to get to 200 around Thanksgiving, and end around 180.

OK Boys, Kind of a WLS question, kind of not. Even though I'm pre-op I'm thinking down the road. I want to build some patio furniture a simple farmhouse style dining room table and a indoor dog crate. I've never been a handy guy but I know how to work with power tools. I've been thinking of saws lately. I don't have a big power saw and I've been wonder what to get. Either a miter saw or a table saw. I'm leaning toward a table saw because I think it would be more versatile over all. But I think a miter saw would be a little more practical and portable. I don't have a ton of room as we live in a Townhome but I do have a 2 car garage. I'm not looking for a ful…

I’m currently pre-op and in the process of getting approved for sleeve surgery. I just took a cruise with my son who is 15, and I’m so embarrassed and ashamed of myself. We went to the Bahamas and I feel like a total failure as a dad. My kid was zipping all over the ship up and down stairs asking me to do things and I couldn’t keep up. He practically begged me at times to do stuff and I couldn’t/wouldn’t. My clothes fit me awful and we skipped the “Elegant” dinner night because I didn’t have anything nice to wear. We walked to do some shopping on the island and I was a lather of sweat by the time we made it to the first store. I couldn’t/wouldn’t get a souvenir…

I'm new here, so if my post is too lengthy, I apologise for not knowing protocol. I'm a year out from surgery, I've had great post-op results. I'm down to my college football build and am heavy in bettering myself physically. I've been married for nearly 13 years and recently have been realizing the sexual issues I felt in my marriage, which were already there pre-surgery, have been taking a toll on my happiness. Before surgery I would voice my feelings to my wife and things would improve for a short while, however our situation would always revert back to the "normal". The first 4 years of our marriage were outstanding, our sex life was phenomenal and exciting, but for w…

Hi Gang, I’ve been thinking of starting a daily journal. I’m pre-op and I’m currently seeing a counselor to work on some depression and co-dependency issues. I’ve been told in the past that it helps to write things down so you can see where you were and help you on the path of where you want to go. I also know from past experience, (way past) that journaling your exercise and nutrition intake on a daily basis helps tremendously. I know that following tradition men typically don’t put thoughts and feelings to paper. But seeing that we are in or seeking to be in a special circumstance that journaling may be of help. So what say you? Do you keep a daily journa…

Since I've lost weight post-op I've been noticing a very significant increase in body hair -- especially on my back and shoulders. I'm starting to look like a sasquatch. I'm thinking its my endocrine system adjusting to my new weight. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

I lost around 140 quick around 6.5 months . Then in November I had gallbladder removed due to weight loss. Lost 10 more that week I’m sitting at 250 right now. The stomach issues I’m having which means I’m in the bathroom a hour or so after I eat. I’m constantly hungry now I’m still limiting to a cup per meal and I go over every now and then. I have not lost weight In 2 months I’m getting a little worried I’m falling off the wagon. I counted my calories today and they are around 1000 when I get done with today and imagine that will be the same or less. But this hunger of food going through me is killing me I want to start losing again.

Sleeved 5/11/17. Having one of the best recovery experiences I've read anywhere. Obviously very lucky. I am a fitness instructor at a major health club chain, so 265-275 was even psychology more at work than every day life. Highest weight 275 Pre-op week 255 Surgery day 248 Today 218.6 A few days ago 216 after many days of Zumba and spinning. Woke up yesterday at 5am and barely made it to the bathroom to pee from dizziness, stumbled many times. Woke up at 8am to teach 2 classes (normal breakfast) and barely made it through, was about to pass out any minute, taught the class mostly verbal, not moving much. Dipping or turning my head triggers it to get worse. Returned, too…

Hello All, I am a month into my 3 month diet pre-DS.... currently 6’1” 391. Hoping to drop down to 190 and be very active.... something I currently just can’t be due to my size and lack of energy currently... im wondering if anyone has had any issues or successes training for 5ks and such after or getting into cycling once you’ve shed some pounds. I really want to get into running and such but worry about not having ENOUGH calories to do some hard training for something like that... thoughs?

Howdy! Long time no post! I've just hit my 2 month surgiversary and am down just shy of 95 pounds! (Still have ALOT to lose though) and loving it so far. I think so have the pouch of superman himself as I have yet to find one food that it doesn' agree with so I'm extra careful in what I'm eating. My lingering question though....I'm trying to save "private Ryan" to be humble as possible lmao and im inquiring to all my fellas if ya'll have had major changes when it came to that aspect. #FightingTheWarOneMonthAtATime

Wow, 16 months after having a MERSA infection cut out of my foot that nearly resulted in the amputation on 2 toes my surgery date was scheduled. I think about everything that I've gone through in that time, the wound vac, weeks of IV antibiotics, not being able to get out of bed, the three months of healing, being away from my wife & kids while I re-cooperated at my parents because we live in a second floor apartment, getting my A1C from a 15.5, yes a 15.5 to a 7 and the three months of pre surgery classes I can't believe I'm actually here. It really is a surreal feeling, I've been overweight my entire life, I don't ever remember NOT being the fattest guy in class o…

This morning, I read a humorous article titled Man Boobs From Hoppy Beer? An 'Earth Poet' Says Yes, Science Says No. https://www.acsh.org/news/2017/11/01/man-boobs-hoppy-beer-earth-poet-says-yes-science-says-no-12061 But it does bring up an interesting topic. For several decades prior to my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I had enlarged breast. As a man this is rather embarrassing condition, especially when I go to the YMCA for a swim. According to this article When the enlarged breasts are a result of obesity it is called pseudogynecomastia. I am now over 4 years post-op and my breasts have returned closer to their normal size. Has anyone else noticed this effect?

Hi guys, I'm 11 days post surgery and my weight hasn't moved in 4 days... Is that normal? I'm still on liquids for another 3-4 days)though I feel I'm ready for puree stage) and I'm hitting my protein goals. My NUT is happy with my diet of optifast, runny yoghurt, and protein water. I'm also walking 7k to 10k per day (I averaged 1500 steps before surgery so I've increased my activity post surgery). According to the scale my weight and body fat % has not moved in 4 days now... It's hard not to get discouraged. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Men! I am two weeks away from surgery and I am currently on a pre-op Optifast diet. I am getting very anxious as time approaches. My anxiety is mainly about have extra/loose skin. I've lost fat before using yo-yo dieting and my skin was not loose. That was about 4 years ago when I was 28/29. I am currently at 375 on a 6' 4" frame. What has your experience been with loose skin? I know it's inevitable, but what can I do to help? Working out, lifting, cardio, yoga...whatever it takes I am willing to devote myself to it. I'm open to suggestions and words to calm down my loose skin fears. Cheers!

I'm going to be discussing with him the right surgery for me. I weigh in the 350 range and I'm really thinking about gastric bypass. It's going to be at least 6 months because of my insurance but I think the nutrition classes will do me some good. I hope everything goes well. I've NEVER been skinny. I've been down in the mid-200s but never lower as an adult. I'm already picking out clothes and it's going to be another 2 years before I am anywhere near my goal! Also, for the guys who are starting/started around my weight, what did you pick for your goal weight.

Food of course is the likely answer but does it go any deeper for any of you? When I was younger, I was kind of ignored, not neglected by any means, but it was easier for my parents to set me in front of the TV and give my chips, because that's what made me happy. Unfortunately, I never grew out of this. I associated food with being happy and I stress/binged eat any time I got down. I never really learned moderation. What about you guys?

First real "encounter" since the surgery (lots of fooling around, but yesterday was... the full meal deal). And... guys... wow. GET THIS SURGERY. Before the surgery, I was a real "one minute wonder" (if I could even get lucky; at 338, it doesn't happen much). I would be panting and wheezing and see spots, and I was lucky to even be able to finish. I was used to the woman not... finishing, either. Yesterday. SEVEN. HOURS. She had more... moments of joy than I could count (maybe 12? 15? 20?), and I had... THREE. THREE. In one night! Guys, I'm 42. That just doesn't HAPPEN to guys my age. And it certainly never happened before the sleeve. Good god, men, if you…

Greetings & Salutations, I'm getting ready to start my 3 month pre-op program & will be weighing in on the 31st of August. I'm feeling pretty excited, this is actually my second attempt at surgery, my first stopped because of an insurance change & an emotional collapse that came with it, now it's two years later & I'm ready to move forward. I'm soon to be 45 & things are starting to break down. I have diabetes & a year ago had a 16 A1C & currently way 315 pounds standing at about 5'11". I started having issues with infections & almost had part of my foot amputated from a horrid infection, fortunately I was able to turn everything a…

I was sleeved on May 17 and 3 months later I am down a total of 40lbs. I've only lost 5lbs in the last month and I'm not really sure if that's good or not? I weighed 265 at the time of surgery and I am 5,10. My goal weight is 180-185. Am I doing something wrong or is this right on track? Any suggestions would help a lot

Hey fellas, My wife is three months post surgery and she's doing phenomenal. I've just scheduled my initial consult with the surgeon, so I'm very early in the process here. I did have some questions/concerns that I'd love some input on. I'm 5'10" 260ish. While I'm on the smaller side of people who want the procedure, I have sleep apnea, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Has anyone been really close to the BMI cutoff and what happens if you dip below it during the preop diet? I currently enjoy obstacle races such as Spartan and Tough Mudder. Post surgery, will I be able to fuel and hydrate myself to handle a 16-mile race on a mountain? Thanks! Ray Sent from my VS986 using…

My surgery is next week and it's becoming more real. I started the process in February (3 month supervised diet, insurance approval and my surgeon is in demand). Any advice for a newbie?

So after months of research and reading this forum I had decided to get sleeved. My cousin and I were going to the required seminar at the end of this month. We were going to have the surgery at the same time since she is wanting to do it too. We called to sign up and was told our insurance doesn't cover the surgery. Looking at our insurance policy (we work at Walmart) it says that it does cover it (of course it has requirements which we both meet). When we called to confirm we are told that the surgery is only covered in PA and CA. Kind of bummed now because don't have the money to do it out of pocket and was actually looking forward the future. I'm hoping that maybe so…
