Well guys I met the surgeon and my case manager yesterday. Officially got this thing started. Took awhile for me to get over the im a failure why can't I do this on my own part. Now I'm just looking forward to being the dad my kids think I am. But seriously you guys have any regrets? Anything you would of done different? I'm done being 390 pounds. Dr said I'd be about 250. I said I will see 200-215 again I'm ready to tear the gym up. Even thinking about joining karate with my kids after the surgery. Well thanks for reading just kinda had to get it off my chest.

Hello Gentlemen, I'm about 18 months out from VSG and am down 92lbs. I haven't lost any weight in probably 12 months. I also haven't gained any so I'm not complaining. I am very happy with my results. I would love to lose the last 25lb spare tire. It seems like I've tried everything. I eat CLEAN and meticulously measure and log food portions into MyFitnessPal. I'm getting 1,600 calories per day, aiming mostly for 50% Protein / 30% carbs / 20% fat. I usually exercise 30min cardio per week but recently upped this to 60 min/day 6 days/wk, alternating between weights & cardio. I go to these fitness sites and their calculators put me at needing anywhere…

I'm a grouchy kind of fellow. I honestly believe that half of the reason for that is I just cannot keep regular. I eat well, a fair amount of Fiber and supplement with Benefiber; but honestly only 1 in 5 BM's are the type that are satisfying. You know the type, where you leave the stall with a smirk and know that you have bested the commode instead shaking your head saying that next time will be different. Lately, my relationship with the john has been one of menace. I step into the stall and immediately cop an attitude with the shitter: But more often than not, I leave like this: You know, head hung low in shame. I'm happy to report that today, I have best…

Hi gentlemen-- I've been lurking here for five months or so, but wanted to say a note of thanks to everyone who posts regularly. It really helps the process. This morning, I made the leap and had the VSG done. Because I'm a self-employed consultant with insurance from the ACA exchange, self-pay was my only option. After quite a bit of investigation and discussion, went to Dr. Curry in Cincinnati (at JourneyLite). I live in Indianapolis, so it's only about 2 hours from home. Dr. Curry does the sleeve via outpatient -- although he makes you stay in a hotel overnight. Quick stats: about 6-1, 302 on first day of two-week pre-op diet, and 283 today for surgery. (Althoug…

I haven't really been giving much thought to it at all though. Just saying Okay Surgery is in AuGustm. I feel guilty like I should be mentally preparing or doing something but I'm not. Hi everyone! So I am 30 years old. I was fat my whole life. Around 23 I managed to lose 200lbs on my own. However my life changed since 22 and I managed to put it all back on. So I am going for the Gastric Sleeve Surgery in July (just about) I have some questions. Okay so I will divide this into 2 sets. 1 Health related, and 2 Casual 1. I weigh 346lbs currently. And there is no way to predict for everyone but on an assumption. How much weigh will I expect to lose? And is it as rapid as I am reading? 2. How bad is the saggy skin afterwards? Is it mainly the stomach, or do you get the turkey neck (pardon me) as well? 3. Heard there is bad acid reflux after the sur…

  9. I, like many of you, have gone through many clothing sizes, and it keeps happening. The cost is incredible, especially as the seasons change. I have found some things in thrift stores for the first time since I got fat 40 years ago, but have recently discovered EBAY for men's clothing. Amazing variety. I found a very nice name brand navy blazer for $20, perfect jeans for $15, nice shirts for $10. Check out EBAY, I just donate them after I got through those sizes, but i could sell them on EBAY I suppose.

So my insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet before my surgeon can submit for approval. I am not sure what I was expecting but I have to say that what I am getting is not what I expected. Its just a class where the nutritionist talks about food, exercise, snacking etc. I feel like I should be getting more out of all of this. I see guys on here who loose a nice bit of weight pre-op, I have maybe lost 5 pounds since starting in January. What was your insurance required diet like?

The past couple weeks have been hard physically and emotionally - I fell and broke my shoulder and had surgery last Friday to repair it. Luckily, I'm over the worst of it and on my way to a long but what looks very optimistic recovery. I just keep thinking about all of the stuff I can't do likely for the whole summer - golf, biking, etc. At the same time, I hit my stretch goal weight that I really never thought I would! I was expecting to end up around 220 and thought that 190 was really a pipe dream. I'm excited, but also worried because my weight loss shows no real signs of slowing down! My 8th grade daughter does cross-country/track and my 6 grade son will likely do both as well when he is in 7th grade next year. I'm currently at 335lbs, and usually don't have much problem walking 2+ miles at an 18 min/mile rate. Curious if any of you guys started a C25K program at a similar size... all tips are welcome.

  14. When was the last time you were scared for your physical safety? I mean really scared? Middle school? In the military? Most women are scared everyday. You didn't probably realize this because you never thought to ask. They get scared in parking garages, walking to the car at night. I never made that connection. I used to get mad when my ex would wake me up to investigate a noise she thought she heard at night, but at least now I understand it. That's why security is soooo very important to women. I have read a large number of books and articles trying to understand women. Most are sappy, and are opinions based on some observations or feelings, but I never felt…

I have a few lady friends who have had great long term success with the full bypass. They are 5+ years out. But I do not personally know anyone who has had the sleeve long term. I have been doing all the insurance mandated precursors and my Bariatric Dr. has recommended me for the Sleeve. But the second thoughts have sprouted in my head as to which one. 20. Anyone else have that feeling before surgery that the imposter syndrome was sneaking up on you? Today the doctor who performed my psych eval dropped me a line to let me know the eval is complete and ready for my review. She mentioned I was an "ideal candidate" who is prepared for the road ahead. When I read those words, I had a "fooled you!" reaction. While I've done my research, started the pre-op diet two days a week (dietitian's instructions), and have completed a number of the eval steps, I sometimes feel like "How can they let someone as fat as me have this surgery? Don't they know I'll gain it all back?" That is not at all my intention, but let's face it: Most o…

I have read a lot of posts, and I know it is more a pre-op thing than a post-op, but I have noticed, and I am guilty myself, that there is a count down to the operation. That there is a lot blood, sweat and tears getting to that point. Like all the answers and a pot of success is just six days, 17 hours, and 2 minutes (for me) away. The GREAT FINISH!!! I had to reevaluate this for me. Yes it is a GREAT BIG accomplishment, but it is more of a START than a FINISH. I see people saying gosh this pre-op diet is hard, I barely eat anything and it's liquid. Well reality check. That is pretty much what you are going to be eating for a month after surgery. Then I see the on…

I have also thought of Ostrich, I am really interested in trying some, if not all of these when I get to that point where solid food doesn't kill me. Monday will be seven weeks since my surgery. I had a really difficult time transitioning from the liquid diet to food, but I finally have. I have been eating about 2 oz. six times a day. I measure everything out, so I know that I am eating what I am supposed to. I have also relied on my stomach. If I eat too fast or too much, I can tell it right away. Today, I ate with friends at their house. I didn't measure my food, but I easily ate 3-4 oz. I know it is not majorly overeating, but I figured that I would get sick or that full feeling that I had been getting when eating my 2 oz. According to my surgeon's plan, I should still be eating about 2 oz. at each meal throughout…

Problem is, its rubbing up against my clothes and skin. I thought, ok no problem, I will just sprinkle some monkey butt down there. It didnt work! Soooo....my wife says, put some lotion on it! Bad idea, I had to show my wife what the lotion did and then of course it was very hard (literally) to keep a straight face and lie to tell the kids why we were late for Christmas dinner. I have found myself making a lot of changes in the 4 months since surgery. I bought my very first brand new car... all black with black wheels. Her advice was that 60-80 grams of protein per day would be good, but 100 grams per day would be good, too. I am eating virtually nothing except protein-rich foods, but it is pretty tough to get much over 60 grams of protein a day and stay at the 600 calories per day that the dietitian recommended. From reading these forums, it seems that most men aim for a higher protein target. Down from 3-4X to L-XL in shirts, and from 48-50" pants to 34-36". Went from being a daily, heavy drinker and a glutton (of some renown!) to no drinks for six months, and 1-2 a week since. Started a walking program immediately after the surgery, then started a C25K app, and ran (jogged) my first 5K on my birthday in May. Moved on to a 10K trainer app, and have since run (jogged) 4 10K's, each one posting a better time. I exercise frequently, and for the first time in my 45 years, I don't mind it! (Honestly, I …

  45. I immediately felt self-conscious that I (for once) was the smallest person in the room. I almost felt like I was being judged and stared at for considering weight loss surgery. And I am sure it was perhaps mostly if not all in my head. I would say that to reach what I would consider being my ideal weight I would only need to loose about 65 lbs. Because of that I have not exactly received any type of support from my family, which makes me question whether or not this is something I need to do. I have battled my weight for years. The last year and a half I have been doing cross-fit training 5 days a week, counted calories for a while, did weight watchers for another while…

Okay guys.....you had WLS surgery......got to your goal weight........and realized it was time for a new ride. Did your choice of vehicles change as a result of your streamlined weight attack ? I'm going to nurse my trusty '07 Nissan pickup for a couple more years.....and wonder if I'll want something drastically different than another truck. A convertable muscle car has always been something I wanted but the practicality of such a vehicle seemed Limited to a big guy with sore knees. Did it open up any more car choices for you?

  48. Well, something has started happening to me the last few weeks... I get angry REALLY fast. My patience has dropped with people, places and situations. Water off the back used to be my way... But lord, I'm even getting on my own nerves these last few days with how bitchy I have been. I'm sure I'm dealing with not having my usual outlets... I can't over eat for fun... I don't smoke anymore... I don't drink... My mind knows the facts, but I have yet to find a way to get it out. I go to the gym daily, and that doesn't help... I do the sauna, whirlpool and steamroom..nothing. I'm to the point I might have to get high class hookers to beat the anger out of me. I'm going…

  49. One of the things that my improving health is doing is allowing me to return to the things I enjoy doing. For instance.....walking up the driveway and into the front entrance of the house yesterday I notice that there is gunk built up between the bricks.....driveway is looking dark, too. Working through the weekend and will get off next Thursday for a day off. Instead of laying around and recovering, I think I'll buy a pressure washer and clean up the driveway and front stairwell. Why keep paying someone else to keep doing it ????? Several home repair/update issues like that awaiting some attention. Gas Honda motor chugging away and a Water jet......what c…

I go in Oct 7, for my surgery. Getting the Gastric by pass. Started this ride in Jan and now finally the procedure. I have been experiencing a little anxiety as I get closer to the day but this is what I've been waiting for.
