Either my IPad is possessed or im losing my mind. I tried to type "pre-op" in another post and it auto-corrected to "Oreos". Really? "Oreos"? On a WLS forum? Guess what I'm craving now..........I hate you IPad.

I have a question for all the guys who have had the weight loss surgery, we hear about all the women who are going through the hormonal changes. Do we as men go through our own hormonal changes after the surgery. I had my surgery on 11/17 and am down over 50 lbs since surgery. I am just not feeling my-old-self since the surgery. Thanks everyone in advance.

I am interested in if any one after getting the sleeve and lost the weight has used steroids to build the muscle back ? Did you experience any thing bad ? Did effect you differently ? Did they build you back up ? Did it affect your food intake ?

I am almost two weeks out of surgery and feeling great. In a few weeks I have to begin traveling for work. Does anyone have suggestions on how to eat healthy on the road. I drive And fly equally. Therefore, when I drive I can brings own snacks etc. not sure what to do about flying though. Thanks.

Now I know we're supposed to be positive and the support here is awesome, but I wrote farewell letters to my two boys and my wife just in case ya' know? I know it's a safe procedure and I know the stats are in my favor but better safe than sorry I guess. Now I've seen some rough things in life and I've made some tough choices but that was probably the toughest thing I've ever had to do. I guess I'm trying to come to terms with my decision with my surgery which is rapidly approaching on the 17th or maybe it's my empty belly from the pre op diet talkin' . Just curious anyone else do this or am I just nuts? Thanks for listening friends.

So it haven't even been two weeks since my sleeve, so for the first time in ages, I decided to watch the Super Bowl alone. I just didn't want to be surrounded by all my friends or family eating and drinking for four hours sraight. It's fine, I'll do it next year, it just feels so weird to so greatly alter a life long custom. Go Seahawks

Hi guys, my name is Mark and I just joined this forum to read about as many people's experiences as possible. My surgery for sleeving is set for next Saturday and the enormity has just bitten hard, have not slept a few nights in abject terror, that is slowly subsiding the more I read the forum, but still comes back occasionally There's no point in trotting out all the old questions and fears, everyone has said it all pretty much. I was going to title this post "Help I'm scared shitless" or something but it looks like every third post is like that! Nice to know I'm not alone or a total coward. It's strange how the fears and misgivingss are so common. The last post I …

I have only told a couple of my close friends so far. Anyone feel kinda like a "cheater" or somewhat feeling less manly when you have to explain to someone new or a girl or even or friends? I I feel like dinner dates would be awkward as i know ill have to take 30 mins just to eat a a lot less than her. I'm only 6 days out of surgery so I haven't had much of a social life just wondering what its like to tell strangers? because i fell like its already going to be hard telling friends.

Hi, everyone! I am so happy to have found this forum. In doing my research on the surgery so much of the information was posted by, or written describing things from a woman's perspective (not that it's a bad thing). It's just that weight loss is different for men and women and I'm excited to see what other men's experiences were like going through the process.

So, I had my usual one year check up with my surgeon yesterday and they ran some tests. What what I gathered from the test is that my metabolism rate is extremely low for my activity level. And now they want to put me on a prescription to boost it up. They are saying if I do nothing all day I will burn only 1100 calories in a 24 hour period. Has anyone else had or have this issue?

Let me just say... I was big and bad going into this. I was in control of my two week diet before surgery... no cheating... picture of strength.. I was ready. The day of surgery, I was big and bad again... Let me tell you, when I came to after the surgery the nurse laughed at me because she could tell I skipped the silly talking a lot phase and went straight into "I'm gonna puke... what the hell did I do?" phase. I felt horrible that first day. Yesterday morning when I got ready to leave I was feeling OK but the minute I was in the car riding home I became SUPER nauseated. So what I'm trying to figure out now: Is the pain I'm feeling gas? Am I drinking my sips to fa…

Hi guys, I've been lurking for a bit and finally signed up hoping for some extra support. My surgery date is 2/25. I start my liquid diet on 2/11. I started my research 2 years ago and began this process sept 2014 after I couldn't fit on an amusement park ride my son wanted to ride. Since the first appointment in September I've gained 10 pounds, most of it in the last month since my final clearance appointment. I'm sure I'll lose that weight during the liquid diet, but my wife said to me the other day "your eating like every meal is your last" meaning I'm overeating and having desert (which I rarely used to do). She's right. Something clicked inside that I can't eat the t…

Unbelievable to be down more than a pound a day since my sleeve. A little tiny part of me is wondering if it's going too fast, but the other part of me knows that there will be stalls and plateaus in the future so I should make hay while the sun shines. Has anyone lost 100 pounds in less than 120 days? That seems like too much to hope for, but that's the track I'm on now. I think that my biggest downfalls with weight have been drive-through (quite frequently twice a day, along with regular meals) and drinking (a six-pack of beer, a bottle and a half of wine, or a few scotches every night), and without those, the weight is dropping faster than most seem to report. …

I originally posted this in the regular sleeve forum and realized that it should have been in the mens forum. 2 months until surgery. I am really starting to worry about excess skin. I've heard women have issues with this more than men. I am currently 6ft 5 inches 410 pounds, athletic build. I carry the weight well. I was 265 in college from 1994-1998 and the lightest i have been post college was 330 (year ago) . I am wondering if i get down to my expected weight which is around 265 is it realistic to have no excess skin? I don't mind lifting weights while losing; i just don't think mentally i could deal with LARGE amounts of the excess skin I see on women.. Don't …

Wow that was a great game. Sure, I graduated a Beaver OSU, but both parents were Ducks and I was raised a Duck. Wonder who they will face for the first ever national championship on the 12th? I actually felt bad for the Noles and all their fans who traveled all that way for such a beat down.

Lost 90lbs...over a year but now have gained 15lbs since October. Slowly. Need to focus and go back to post surgery diet of only protein. Anyone go through the same? Thx.

Hey all, back on November 28, 2014 I smashed my shin against a step and it caused a mild case of cellulite. I was prescribed a high dose of an antibiotic on 2 different occasions which has eliminated any infection I assume. However, there is still a baseball sized spot on my shin (see pic). My question is if anybody has had this and if this would prevent my February 10th surgery date? Of course, the doctors would be able to tell me but am curious of other's experiences. Thanks!!

Hey guys, I'll start by stating I'd appreciate only guys responses on this one please. I started working out at gym in December. I want to know how much you guys are lifting at the gym?? I've not been a weight lifter in past so just trying to see what's the norm. Also, want to understand how your weight loss is going while lifting weights. How much are you losing weekly while hitting the weights in gym? I've been irritated during December as I've lost very little weight. Probably only lost 10 pounds this entire month. Talk some sense into me fellas.

So does anyone wear or have thought about wearing a medic alert bracelet or necklace or dog tags or whatever showing gastric sleeve? Ive looked into some I like, not too expensive either. My wife and my doctor and all my friends and family that is in the medical field want me to. What do you guys think? too non-manly or what?

Just curious if there are other guys on this board who are on TRT? I have been on TRT since May 2014 and along with my surgery and losing 105 lbs so far, my life is so much better. -Ken

Luckily my wife caught it in time..Clean your vents people, dont be lazy!!! I must have removed 5 lbs of lint from the inside of my dryer.

Hello! I am having VSG surgery on July 7. Super excited, scared, and anxious. I have a question about Low T. I have been dealing with it for a couple of years. No treatment because we want to have kids and testosterone replacement therapy is an issue when it comes to fertility. My question is this.... Has anyone seen an increase in their Testosterone levels after VSG and weight loss without treatment? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm down 87 lbs since surgery last year but gained 7lbs the last two weeks. But I know why: I'm eating too many Snacks and not drinking Water. The mental stuff that made us fat before is still there. Im struggling too but I know what I need to do: destress and stick to the program. A support group isn't something I've done before but may now. I just need the reset button and to talk to people to understand.

Alright guys, I've just completed all my steps towards having RNY surgery and waiting for surgeon to give me a surgery date. Now tonight my wife tells me a man who has had RNY, told her that men's hormones go crazy after having surgery and we could go mean and such stuff. Any of you have problems with hormones? Fill me in on some info if you will? I don't want to go turning into some kind of monster or have to be shot like Old Yellow dog was... Thanks!

I just had my surgery 10 days ago and already had a few shots of Patron two different times (no preaching please I know its wrong) but what I wanted to put out there was I heard everyone(including research I read) say they get a buzz much quicker now but both times I was on an empty stomach (neither time bothered my stomach) and I could NOT get a buzz period 1st time I did 5 total shots over a 1.5 hr period..NOTHING and the second time same thing only 8 shots over two hours..NOTHING I was always a beer drinkier before not any more but 3 shots of patron would always give me a huge buzz now straight alcohol on a empty stomach has no effect on me. Again I dont need anyone …

Had my sleeve done last Tuesday, Dec 16, and today was the one week follow up. Down 15 pounds, with nearly no pain (except that one time I sneezed and I thought every muscle in my midsection was exploding!), and laproscopic wounds that look like five little cat scratches. I went back to work-full day's work- three days after the surgery. No heavy lifting, which is strange, but feel great...STARVING, but great. At my follow up today, my surgeon told me everything looked great. He said some people don't lose anything in the first week, because of the fluids from the IV. I told him that I must be a perfect case then, because not only have I started losing, I have near-…

I'm 7 days out from surgery and can't believe how fast the weight is coming off already. As of this morning I'm down 22 lbs from the time I started pre-surgery liquids. (I only needed 2 days of liquids prior to surgery). I know this will slow once I get on puréed and solid stages of food but I'm still blown away by how effective this is. What is probably more important is: - I'm sleeping MUCH better and for the first time in 2 years I can breath through my nose instead of laying all night with my mouth open, choking for air. I'm also starting to have, or at least remember, dreams again. I feel like my sleep apnea is gone but realize it may be too early to claim vi…

I did it! 48 hours removed from my Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery, and I honestly don't know how much more smoothly it could have gone. I had nerves up until they wheeled me in, but when I became conscious again, I was shocked at how good I felt. Sore, for sure, in the stomach, but certainly manageable. The scars from the laproscopic surgery (There were five of them) were so small they were covered each by little bits of surgical tape. When my chest hair grows back, the scars wouldn't even be visible if they never healed! I had two 60 second session of dry heaves, but no vomiting, no acid, no nothing. Started walking a couple hours after the surgery with NO problems (al…

After nearly 2 months of waiting I decided to call my insurance carrier, Aetna today. They have approved me, and there is a letter of approval in the mail. I sure hope this works for me. The band was a disaster and I'm out of options. I've had an eating disorder since I was a child. I should get a call from my surgeon any day now to schedule a consult and surgery date. I'm excited and worried at the same time. I realize this is only a tool and the I have to establish a new, healthy relationship with food. Wish me luck

My surgery is in 3 days, and I am nervous as hell. I'm riding feelings like waves: one minute I feel like this is the best move I've ever made, and the next I wonder if my personality will diminish without food. I'm getting support from my wife, but she's nervous as hell, too, which does nothing to help! Tonight I'm meeting my mom and dad for my Last Supper. I don't want to go nuts, but this is a milestone, and I want to share it with people I love. But the nerves...the NERVES! I need someone who's not worried for me to give me some words of encouragement for the next week. Maybe that someone is you! You have a minute? I'm asking for a few folks to send me a litt…

5:03am, and I just got up to go to surgery. It seems like the turnaround from "I think I need to do this" to "oh my god, today is the day" has been lightning quick. In less than three hours, my surgery will be underway. In less than 6 hours, it will be over. Nerves (and a grumbly stomach) woke me up at 3:30am, so jitters are there for me right up until the end, I guess. Anyhow, hopefully I will be able to update tomorrow with a tale of a smooth and successful surgery. Wish me luck!

Yep, there are many things I am very thankful for in the short time post surgery. This is the time year to reflect and possibly post about them: I like being able to cut my toenails without effort or planning I get up from my office chair without a grunt That annoying pain in my knee when I walk is gone I am glad I don't have to do laundry as often. Usually, one wear and by the next one, it's too big I am getting to clean out my closet Some bigger things I am thankful for now that I am post surgery, but I had worried about it before (no guarantees my results are typical, but I'm happy): I can handle spice. I was concerned my new stomach may not like it I am…

I'm currently in the middle of my two week diet before surgery. The center that is performing my surgery sets you up with an eating plan with Meal Replacements they prescribe... Plus a sensible high Protein with vegetables meal... Like an expensive version of Slim Fast! My LORD am I hungry. It wasn't as bad last week while I was at work, because I stay busy... but, this weekend has been torture. I'll make it, however. Eye on the prize. I've finished getting all my supplies for the surgery and at least the first three weeks after surgery. It's funny, because all these folks who have been so supportive this past month are starting to freak out on me and I think they w…

First post, guys. 10 days from surgery. I've been in the restaurant business all my life. I own two currently, and don't really know any other businesses. At 348lbs, it's time for me to make the leap. I'm excited, but scared. My biggest concern is losing my identity. My whole life, professionally and personally has revolved around food. (FWIW, my problem has never been overeating at work...it's Drive-thru eating (2-3 times a day) that did me in. I'm not worried about being tempted at work (although our food is BOMB), but I AM worried about the implications of the guy who sells you food needing WLS. I realize that this is an ego thing more than anything, but just wa…

Just under 30 days to go for my VSG surgery on the 5th of January. Getting really nervous. I guess that is nothing new. ANY suggestions on the 2 week Liquid pre-op diet? I start the 21st. I can have green veggies and 3 shakes a day. How did you do to get thru the two week Pre-op? I started at 360lb and I'm down to 345.

YES!! Look at that ticker. I have worked my tail off and been extremely diligent. Hope you don't see this as being too cocky but man I am thrilled to have lost over 100 pounds. One of the best decisions that I've ever made. Next major goal is to step on the scale and see it start with a 1. About 25 more pounds and I will reevaluate to see where I want to try to reside at. Anyone have suggestions about maintenance? I think I am still at least 6 months away but want to digest some ideas before formulating a plan. I have had to earn the last 20 pounds or so and I don't think the next 25 will be any easier to get rid of.

Never thought the insurance would approve it so quick.. Had first consult only 4 weeks ago and now will have gastric sleeve done on dec 3rd. November 25th is one year post opp for me and I wanted to share my observations for the year. Here you go.... Unwarranted Pre Opp Fears: I was super worried about complications and recovery and felt like I was seriously risking my life. In reality, surgery was a breeze. I had 2 or 3 uncomfortable days and then was quickly back on my feet. I dreaded pre and post opp diets. The pre-opp diet was harder for me, because I knew that my food days were coming to an end and I sort of had to mourn all the things I loved to eat. The post opp diet wasn't fun, but since I really couldn't eat anything (nor did I have any desire to), it wasn't all that difficult. Now that per…

Hey Guys, not sure how popular this is but wanted to ask around... My highest weight was 316, I had the sleeve done on 1/27/2014 at 269, and on 8/20/2014 I hit my goal weight of 176. During the process, I lost a good bit of muscle while losing all the fat!! Still got a little bit of the moobs, but that's another issue...anyway, I sort of expected to lose a little muscle, since I found out through research that this can happen during the rapid weight loss process. Now I want to get back the muscle I lost, as well as maybe gain a bit more muscle mass, since I'm in much better shape now. Trying to do less cardio and more weight training. Anyone else in this situation? If s…
