Hey guys, I have been reading some of these threads and decided I would put myself out there. I am 63 y/o I have type 1 diabetes for over 50 yrs. I weigh 261 at the start with a BMI of 43! I have sleep apnea, hypertension, cardiac disease with several stents in place. I have limited mobility do to weight and DM. The surgery, which I have though about for a number of years but always dismissed it because I "can lose weight on my own" yeah right. Yo yo diets all my life, weight loss then regain which ended up higher than where I started. Slowly over the years my weight kept going up, my mobility getting less and less. I became an observer of life rather than participating.…

Previous Short Term Goal Met: Loss of 75 lb within three months of surgery. New Goal Short Term Set: Be under 200lb by Christmas morning. This may prove difficult as Thanksgiving and Christmas are both holidays of yummy foods and beverage. I have 25lb (aprx 87,500 kcal) to work off and 59 days which equals 0.43 lb per day or aprx 1,450 kcal per day (through exercise and diet) to loose. When this goal is accomplished I will have lost at least 148lb from my highest weight and at least 101lb from pre-surgical weight. On December 31, 2012 a close friend challenged me to lose 100lb within one year and attend an annual hiking/camping event, which I declined to attend last year …

I am two days post op sitting in my hospital bed, ready to go home here soon... I am feeling pain upon getting into and out of bed and some when walking... I am doing great walking and feel better and better all the time... I am burping and having gas and that has helped... I am keeping down solid liquids well and have not had much nausea. My question is when will I be comfortable enough to get up out of bed and get into bed? Will it be 2 week? 6 weeks? Ready to feel better soon! Thanks!

  18. I am in week 8 post-op (I've lost 80+ lbs already since starting the process). Sometimes when I eat now, it feels like I can eat more than normal and it freaks me out that I've stretched my sleeve or something. Other times, in four bites I am full. A typical dinner for me these days is a small piece of chicken and a few brussel sprouts. Sometimes, though, I want a second piece of chicken. I guess my question is - is it normal to start being able to eat more after a couple of months? I know there's an initial difference after a couple of weeks because the swelling goes down, but I thought it mostly stays the same until a year+ out. Feels weird talking about eating a "…

I realized today that I'm exactly 6 weeks out from my surgery. Being as close as it is, it got me thinking about my NSGs. Here are a few: 1) Being able to sit more comfortably in planes. I don't usually have to ask for an extender, but I have to cram myself into the seat. 2) Walking by the big and tall sections in department stores! This might be the one I'm looking forward to the most. 3) Losing the roll of fat around my wiener. I can grab a handful of it on each side. Think B cup and that's how much is down there. 4) Getting off is damn CPAP. The cardiologist that diagnosed me a couple months ago said that he didn't think I would get off it with the sleeve be…

I'm a 56 year old male, with all the co-morbidities except diabetes, (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, sleep apnea, arthritis in knees and hips, ruptured disc in lower back, and had a TIA about a year ago). All are being treated. I'm hoping for no meds and no CPAP, eventually. I asked my primary about bariatric surgery and he referred me immediately. I was approved by insurance a week later. I'm quite a bit concerned about being able to drink enough Water post op during times of heavy outdoor workouts and a lot of sweating. When it's hot outside and I'm doing some rigorous activity (digging, mowing, lawn, working in hot shed, moving heavy stuff and generally bustin my ass.......I sweat like crazy in a short amount of time. When I go in the house I'm completely soaked, flushed red and mouth feels dry as a desert. I will then sit in front of a fan blowing and wipe the sweat with a towel as I drink three or four glasses of water in a few minutes, trying to get re hydrated. So, what's the deal after surgery? I guess I'm looking for some other guys for a little support group. Like what's good to eat what kind of work outs do you do stuff like that. Alright take it easy!

First of all, I love my wife. She does not yet know that i have decided to have the lapband procedure. I have brought the subject up but she quickly dismisses it. She doesn't understand (she has never had a problem with her weight) and she is not interested in listening to me. Part of this is my fault because of all the diets i have been on and failed. When i talk about the lapband she says stuff like "just excersize more and eat less." While that is something i need to do, it is not that simple. My wife also can' t keep a secret. I can't tell her anything i would like kept confidential because she tells her aunt, mother and sister everything. They are not people i want…

Any motorcycle riders out there? I was sleeved in March. I've lost 105lbs. I'm experiencing something I never thought would happen. The center of gravity has change when I ride my bike. It's a wonderful thing when I'm riding solo but when I have my girlfriend on the back (she weighs about 160lbs) I have a lot of problems holding the bike up going around slow turns and coming to a stop. I'm an experienced rider with 50 years of motorcycling under my belt so it's not a case of the newbies. I'm not complaining mind you. I'll take the weight loss over a little instability anytime. I'm just a bit surprised of this one change in my life I never expected.

I'm down about 115 pounds now and I've only golfed twice since surgery (not at all in the last 5 months) Does anyone have any suggestions for getting back out on the course. I'm worried my swing will be completely different and was hoping someone had been in the same boat and might have some suggestions for regaining your swing after a major weight loss. Cheers and congrats to everyone who's gone through this....such a better life so far!
