So I have always been a big guy, My BMI is currently 42. Exercise and diet never worked for me. Id loose a small amount of weight and gain it back, I come from a family where they are all heavy and have diseases associated with being obese. So I decided to have this surgery through Abington hospital in Pa. I am in the process of lab work, and seeing my specialist for atena select approval. I hope all this work will get me approved. My friends and family don't understand I feel like. Some are thinking that I'm looking for an easy way out, but I'm not!!! ive been doing my research and I know that this surgery is far from easy. Here is the thing I know I want this surge…

I just turned 42, I'm 6'2" and 340 lbs and I guess I've been in denial about my ever-expanding waistline. I've tried doctor supervised weight loss a couple of times with the appetite suppressing drugs, etc and it never worked for more than a month or two. I've done low-carb diets off and on for 15 years. If I stick with a diet long enough to lose 30lbs, as soon as I let my guard down, it comes right back. I developed asthma (or at least it got a lot worse) when I really started to gain weight after college (at about 260 lbs). I've got sleep apnea and use a CPAP. I'm tired, depressed and a grouch most of the time (and this is definitely not who I am). I want to get…

I guess this doesn't NEED to be in the Men Room, but here it goes... My doc told me no alcohol until 6 months after surgery. Then I told him i am taking the bar exam in February (3 months after surgery)... He said "Go ahead and drink after the bar! also, feel free to have that cigar you keep bugging me about." Now when he says I can have alcohol... Does he mean just wine? Or, will I be able to have some scotch with that cigar? What is the reasoning behind the alcohol statement? Is it too harsh on the wound area? Does it cause too much acid production? Too many empty calories?

Im getting the sleeve on August 2. And I have not been able to find much info on how it will affect me working in the heat. I work in the oilfield and there is a lot of heavy lifting and being in the heat all day.

Well I was sleeved on July 9th. I would like to know from you veterans how long it takes for the large incision to heal? Ya know the one that they pull your stomach out of. My problem is that I can't bend over without pain and I can't lay down flat either. Feels like the stitches were put in to tight. There is the ridge under my skin, I showed the people at my drs office they said it was ok

I am posting this in the Man's Room since guys lose weight differetly than women, so I thought I would solicit a guy's perspective. I barely had a BMI of 40 when I started this. I qualified for the surgery with a couple of co-morbidities. I started my pre-op 1,000 calorie-a-day diet at 276 lbs 28 days ago. I had my surgery 14 days ago and have been nailing my Water and getting 80 grams of Protein in every day. My post op calorie count has averaged around 800. I feel great. Just a little tired occasionally but no big deal at all. Today I weigh 240. That is 36 lbs down in 28 days. I am glad to drop the weight, but I also worked with a guy in the late 1980s…

Well a few weeks ago I let my motorcycle go, my a$$ just hurt too much to ride. This weekend both of our middle aged dogs health took a turn for the worse, the female went blind earlier this year, probably a brain cancer or something and is inconsolable, she constantly barks an whines, we pick her up and she's OK for a few minutes then starts in again, she don't respond to calls or commands very well any more so we suspect she is going deaf too. I suspect she is just frightened of the world closing in around her. Our little male has had a few tumors in his chest and rear end and stopped eating last week and moans all the time. He started to vomit up anything we can g…

Well my curiosity obviously wondered off to these men fourms. Okay well guys are always supposed to be the ones that always want sex correct? ... well that's not my case I always have to start of the sexual interaction I have to nthrope one that starts kissing and etc... my husband does nothing. I even put on sexy out fits and heels and do my hair and cook a meal for my husband so when he gets home from work he gets turned on and what not and all I get is a babe you look nice. I dontthink its my physical.... I'm 19 I don't want to sound cocky because I'm not at all but when I go anywhere people are always staring at me and blowing me kisses I have a veryy nice curvy body…

Ok, so this is waaay off topic so that's why I'm positing it here in the Man Room. I really don't want to ask my facebook friends for this advice... My son is starting his first season of football next week. And while I know enough to be a fan, I just don't know enough to get him started playing. And I really had no luck on google. He is supposed to have offensive holes and defensive gaps memorized. They gave him the sheet. My confusion is what exactly are these for? There was no explanation whatsoever from the coach - just a sheet! it goes like this: Offensive hole numbering: 9 7 5 3 1 0 2 4 6 8 O O O O O O O Gap responsibi…

Beyond AWESOME!!!! I am down 105lb since Sept 23rd, 2011. Iam 335lb as of today & feel now that my body will settle around 265-270lb. I see that I'll need a body tuck one day but not until I get under 300lb (preferably around 285lb). Best damn decision I ever made. Highly recommended to all!!!

Hi all, I'm 8 days out of surgery. Has anyone experienced a drop in testosterone immediately following surgery? I'm pretty sure (though not confirmed yet) that I must be low on testosterone. I feel weak and lethargic, I have no sex drive, and I'm not sleeping well--all symptoms of low test. Is this common?

So as most of you big guys know from experience that it is a pain in the butt to find an office chair (any chair) with armrest that don't pinch your sides. Now im a big guy, 498 to be exact and the biggest issue I always find going out to eat or to the movies is will I fit in the seats they have. But I never thought I would feel like that at home. So before I got my "Fat Man Chair sent from the Gods" I had a very nice La-Z-Boy office chair with arm rest given to use by my mother-in-law. It was a bit snug and as I got bigger it just started pinching the heck out of my sides and leaving marks. Mind you I didnt spend to much time in the chair because I had been injured and u…

Hello, I got banded on 2/21/12. Im down over 30 pounds from the surgery and an additional 15 from the pre op diet. I am 40 years old and im starting to notice a decrease in my testosterone since my surgery. I don't know whether it's from the whole food change (i've totally cut red meat) or the lack of resistence training (i;ll be heading back to the gym in about 2 weeks when the doctor gives his clearance). Is there any suppliments that could help give me that extra boost for when i start hitting the free weights again? Also, has anyone found a good post op workout to help build overall strength? Thanks!

I was pondering and very curious if anyone has experience with this or has any thoughts on the subject. Ok, so I personally have always been attracted to plus sized women. My wife, who has also been banded recently, is a plus sized woman. What I wonder is will my sexual preferences change?...as I become thinner will I also be more attracted to thinner women or will I still be attracted to plus size? Will my wife still be attractive to me? I also wonder, will she still find me attractive? I've always been a big guy and while I know I may not look like brad pitt or have six pack abs, will she find me less attractive as a smaller man? I appreciate all your thoughts,…

Surgery in the AM. On liquid diet day before. Driving around seeing all these restaurants are ticking me off! Now I'm just drinking chicken broth.

So... being that this is The Man's Room, I figured I reach to the fellas and ask a question that I kind of already know the answer to. But for those who have had the sleeve.... Was it a noticeable difference in the attention you received from the opposite sex after you've lost the weight from the sleeve? If you have seen a difference, do you consider those folks superficial and don't give them the time of day? I mean are you not the same person on the inside? I bring this up because I recently told a female friend of mine that I was going to have the surgery, she was very supportive, but then she also made a statement like.... "You're going to have women all over you". …

Hey Guys, I wanted to put this in here since I know that the guys and girls are different and hoping to get some "guy" related answers concerning these questions. Gals you are welcomed to chime is as well, didn't mean that to sound sexist. I promise!! Anyway. With guys having different metabolisms, hormones, and what not, how much weight loss have you seen with your sleeve and have you experienced as many stalls as a lot of the women talk about?? If so, how long??? Now I know that everyone is different with factors of exercise, tolerances of carbs, etc so I am not looking to say this won't work or anything. I just want to hear REAL experience and REAL numbers. …

I went in to see my PCP and talk about the VSG with them. As soon as I mentioned it, they wanted to run blood work to make sure everything was good. The results came back and he said my testosterone level was way under where it should be for a 24 yr old. Something like a 170. He then started talking about metabolic disorders and I kinda went blank. I had just got up the nerve to talk about VSG and now I have disorders! I am scheduled to see an endocrinologist next week. After doing some research online, a lot of the side effects make sense. So my questions are; has anyone had the same issue? Do the side effects get better with medicine? Will I have to have injections…

Hello, First I would like to say hi to all and hope all is well. I have been checking out this forum for several days and decided to post and check things out even farther. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Dave and I am very intently cosidering the sleeve but to be honest I am very comprehensive and excited at the same time. Just some basic info about myself. I am 31 years old and have always been overweight. I have always been active and pretty healthy overall but always overweight. A few years ago I weighed myself and when I saw 375 ish, I said enough is enough. I became more aware of what I was eating, when, etc.... I was able to get down to abou…

So I am about 2 and 1/2 weeks post-op. Wife is 4 weeks post-op. We had sex for the first time yesterday and she was so tight that it was actually uncomfortable. Do you guys think this was due to the surgeries, the month without sex, or a combination of both? I sure hope it gets better because I could not penetrate.

K so questions if any of you have had the surgery or thoughts about post op. ok so I love to cook for people. As odd as this sounds I love having peeps over and watching them crack into a fresh vanilla creme brûlée. I am a little scared that I will lose my passion for cooking. Weird I know but /shrug well anyway.... Ok so next, have you guys told anyone at work? I have not because my boss is very type a personality and if he is against it I would t have got the time off. I mean, I am sure everyone will notice soon, the nurses live hanging out with me, I'm guessing because I help out and try to make their job easier. Ok so I know this is stupid but I enjoy having a bee…

Guys, how many calories do you eat in a day and how does it differ or does it differ from what the surgeons office says. I just had my 3rd fill and they said I justntrynto go down from 1200 calories a day to 1000. I think there crazy. What do you guys think? The chicks that troll here can post as well.

How many of you has noticed increased penis size? I guess it was always there, just hiding.

Wow. I didn't even know there was a Man forum for this. Nice!! My name is Courtney. I am in Las Vegas prepping in my six-month pre-surg phase. I am 6'3'' and 425lb. At 36 I decided to finally do something about my size. I want to go out. Buy off the rack (ugh) just a few times. And as strange as this sounds, get on a plane and be able to sit in ANY seat. No extender for the belt and NO "spilling over" into adjacent seats. Is that too much? I already did base jumping but want to add sky surfing to my resume as well as para-sailing. My goal weight is around 220lb or so. By the time I get "Sleeved" I want to be 400lb or less.

I'm not scheduled yet, but I am approved for the surgery. Expecting a date around March 1st. Any chance I will be cleared to play by May 1st, and even if I am cleared, is it a reasonable expectation that I will be able to do it? Thanks.

Study: Obesity Could Lead To Depletion Of Earth’s Resources June 21, 2012 1:49 PM Share this food energy demands as an extra half a billion people living on the earth,” the study concluded. The findings were published in the BMC Public Health journal earlier this year. Research was conducted based on the theory that the body mass of a population should be factored into the amount of energy it burns, in addition to the number of people residing in a certain region. Though obesity touches all corners of the Earth, it was found that Americans were especially weighing down the planet. “If all countries had the [body mass index] distribution of the USA, the increa…

Ok so the topic of this post isn't obviously the point. Just trying to get more attention here. I've been banded for two weeks now. i started at 267, and I'm currently at 248.3. I'm controlling my diet well, and if I get hungry I usually have a few almonds or drink more Water.... how about everyone else? Did you find you kept losing weight before you had your first fill (even on regular foods)?

Now that I have lost considerable weight I have found less muscle under that layer of fat than I thought was there. Perhaps some of my weight loss was muscle but I think my perception of how much of me was muscle was overly optimistic. Now onto a bodybuilding regime!

Hello Sleever's im new here and this is my biggest fear and concern in considering gastric sleeve surgery as one of my life changing decisions, so i need your help and opinion for sleever's who are men at the age of twenty. I am currently 20 and my weight is around 340 pounds and my height around 5/9, now my question is if i lose a lot of weight with this surgery will i have massive amounts of loose skin at my age? - now don't get me wrong i am doing this for my health mostly but considering my age this is an issue that pretty much scares me at times.

I know this is an odd sort of question, but I was wondering if I could expect any uptick in libido after losing significant weight. I have a medical condition that leads to low testosterone (which won't go away with weight loss), but I was wondering if anyone had noticed a better libido after WLS. For me, every little bit helps; I'm only 39, there should be SOME kind of interest there!

I never knew that weight loss would bring back the sexual thoughts. Before the weight loss I didn't think about sex very often. I was sleeved on March 26th and I'm 88lbs down and every time I think about sex its an instant hard on. I feel like a horny teenager all over again. I'm afraid that I will become a sex addict. I'm married but the thought of sex drives me crazy now.

Really glad to see a mens forum. There are so many more women than men on these forums! Anyway,,I am considering getting banded. Two years ago I went through the insurance requirments and backed out in the last month. Lost 80lbs on my own then gained it all back. The worst part for me is sweating! When I gain the weight back I sweat like crazy. Man its embarrassing as hell. Anyone else have this problem?
