My doctor is pushing me to attend support groups. I attended a couple meetings pre-op and two more after surgery, but they were terrible. Each one I went to was all angry women complaining about their husbands and men in general. Plus, 90% of them were gastric bypass patients. I felt totally out of place. It seemed they looked at me with disdain because #1) I am male, #2) have a Lap Band, and #3) don't have as much to lose as many of them. There is definitely no support, and I will not be going back. Is this typical, or have you found groups that are more accepting of men?

Ok so I'm trying to find anyone there that is near my age and had a start weight and height like mine. I'm 5'10" and my starting weight is 265. I'm 36. I know everyone's journey's are different, I'm just trying to see how everyone in my age/weight/height range has done/been doing...

Hey guys! I'm going to be sleeved soon an was wondering if post-op you 'cooled' down. I've read several posts that said after the surgery you run a little cooler and don't sweat like crazy - which would be awesome and something else to look forward to!! Thanks!!

I know we have thrown around the topic of what men thought of plastic surgery after weight loss. I want to know if you have had or thought of having a precedure: What did you have done and how much were the expenses? I am about to schedule a consultation to find a surgeon and hope to have it completed by the end of the year.

So my insurance company sent over my approval last wednesday and then Thursday at 4:45pm the scheduler called to schedule my appointment, so when I tried calling them back they already closed shop. Now its Monday at 12:39pm and I have yet to get ahold of the scheduler. I'M BEYOND FRUSTRATED. She says she will call me, but I'm at work and I work monday - friday 10a-630pm so I don't know what to do and I'll be upset if this delay puts me into July.

Are there any men since being sleeved use the bathroom less than before. I swear I could possibly go all day and not even take a piss. Before the fact I was using the bathroom at least once an hour. I drink water all day and still don't have the urge to pee. Are there any men experience this.

Will I did it. I bought my non refundable airplane tickets. May 23 with Trish and Dr. Prons in Tijuana is my date. Last time here I reported that I didn't have any family support. Well, I still don't. I haven't told them I took the next step and made a date. I don't think I will. With being an over the road truck driver I can just leave with my truck and park at my terminal and jump on the metro to the airport. Then deal with the aftermath when I get back. With them seeing that I made it though the surgery it should be easer.

Hey everyone, I'm new here and have been enjoying reading your posts. I had my surgery on March 1 2011 which puts me in the just over a year category. I was 390 pounds at my heaviest just prior to surgery and I am now 225 pounds! I have slowed way down on dropping the pounds and hope to lose another 25 to 45 more pounds. I had many post-op problems...dehydration, acid reflux, vomiting and am just starting to feel a new "normal" after so long. I hope to connect with others to share the emotional and physical challenges and changes that have come with this process.

Planning on my yearly trek to the Bonnaroo Music Festival; I would be 18 days out from being sleeved, is this too early to be in the elements for four days? I won't be camping, I will be sleeping in an air-conditioned tour bus each night. I always have a camelback strapped on so Water is always close. Thoughts? Thanks Www.bonnaroo.com

With all the stuff I have left to do its gonna get here before I know it. Cant wait to be on the losers bench!

First post for me. I completed my 6 month Doc monitored diet last week, insurance approved in two days, surgery scheduled in 21 days and I woke up this am thinking "holy cra_ what have I done". I think I am most nervous about the first 48 hours; most of the posts have been from the ladies and some of them had some bad reactions. Other than that, I am most looking forward to kicking type 2 diabetes; I am tired of injections, sticks and a handful of pills each day.

I have been banded for for 16 months and am down 86lbs. I began P90X and was doing well. Over the last few months I have gotten complacent and have gained 11lbs. I now realize that even with the band you must continue to maintain the success you received. I have read through several of the threads. I am glad to see the men have a place to share their experiences.

I'm 6 weeks out today and down 58 pounds. My NSV for yesterday was a surprise encore performance last night within minutes of the main performance. Maybe there is something to this testosterone thing? I have always been sorta up for around two....but only after a snack and an hours rest...lol. This was like being 21 again...daddy's back!

I've been reading your threads and have to say I love your NSVs...I come on here hoping to hear more "balls in the toilet" tales...being a girl and reading period stories isn't as fun I asked my hubby if his balls ever fall in the toilet and he laughed at me wondering where I heard something like this...luckily he doesn't have that issue but I guess it happens to some guy friends lol

My name is Hutch - I have a tentative date of May 9th with Dr Aceeves in Mexi -Cali I am a truck driver and struggle with weight loss so I have made the decision to be sleeved. I am nervous but not scared. I have been 100 lbs overweight for the last 10 years and I have tried every diet imaginable - and they work for a minute and then fail. I have no one to blame but myself. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, asthma and planter faciatias in my feet which causes me alot of pain. I hope and pray that after the surgery with time these conditions that I mention will go away. I recently got married to a beautiful woman that was sleeved in Janurary,2010- and when she said that I…

Anybody else notice since dropping some weight that you are well, always ready to go in the bedroom? Since Ive lost I am insatiable. I just nod towards the bedroom and my girl is like "awwww not again". Is this a testosterone boost or is it just since the weight is coming off you are 'up' for more excercise. P.S Mr. Willy has returned in all his glory since the losing. I def have more usable equipment!

So I'm 4 days post op and I went a little over board yesterday and drank too much chicken broth to the point that I could tell my stomach was way full. I'm very worried I'm going to mess things up. I fill fine today I'm able to get liquids down no problem but just still worried I messed things up. Anyone else done the same thing. Was everything ok or did it cause problems?

Hello all I just got my surgery date for Jan. 30th. and now i'm freaking out. Even though I researched this procedure for years prior to this point. Even though I did all the pre-op testing I guess I never thought I would get an actual surgery date or one that is so close. But I guess if I don't do it now I never will. The psychologist at the surgeons office said not to do a food bucket list because the band shouldn't stop you from eating the things you want you can just have them in smaller quantities but I hear such horror stories of people no longer eating things like steak or chicken or even eggs and I'm freaking out thinking i need to do a food bucket I haven't yet …

So I been kicking the idea around.. Ive read a lot of topics on here in the past few hours. Im 27 so still somewhat young so ill be honest i still love to go out and drink. Im a big drinker so with that said... I read that beer is basically gonna be a no no... Which sucks but I would rather stay alive past 50. So i guess my question really is am i still gonna be able to party? What drinks can i drink to get drunk on? I have a high tolerance so am i now gonna be that guy that has 3 vodka and crans and be that super drunk guy? Lol. I mean usually when my boys and i get together we end up being those guys but it takes more than 3-4 drinks to reach that.

I lost 89 pounds so far and I admit that I haven't been working out as much I need to but I have been doing push ups and walking here and there, so anyway two nights ago I had my boys on the perfect pull bar (even my five year old gets in on the fun) and something told me to try it, lo and behold I did one! Last night I got in three! I think the combination of my body strengthening itself due to carrying all that extra weight and now my sudden weight loss has allowed me to do them. It's nice to know that I did get stronger at some point in my life! I'm so excited I just had to share with you guys!

Hey all, I'm 35 years old and just got my VSG earlier this week. On November 15 2011 I met with my surgeon and his staff...the scale that days aid 561lbs...that day I startedmy preop diet of 1200 calories, 96oz of Water, Adipex (appetite) supressant, and working out at the gym. 105 days later it was the day of my operation and I had lost just over 100 lbs. It was probably my lowest weight in a long time, but not sure exactly when. I spent one night in the hospital, which was fine since I was hopped up on drugs! My first day home I was in a decent amount of pain, but that has mostly stopped now. My only complaint now is lack of energy. After taking a shower this morni…

Two weeks post op today and feeling good. I had a check-up yesterday and found that I was down about 35lbs already. I was also tested in my "mushy" diet phase today with a lunch meeting at work but I asked them to order me a cup of chili instead of a sandwich. Had to chew the mess out of it but it sure beats the liquid diet phase from the past two weeks!

Well, the boys have dropped. They just hang there really low...so low...(here's the embarrasing part)...that they get wet when sitting on the pot! How aggravating! I have to hold em up to do the business! Has anyone else had this issue? My wifey also complains of them sagging when we are "passing a good time"! Is this common to weight loss guys? Or is it just me?

Guys, I am looking for a weight training book (or app) to get me started. I have worked out with a trainer but feel its more of a “follow me – then teach me” so without their knowledge, I feel like a deer in the headlights. Much like I did for nutrition and cardio – I really want to reeducation myself so I am comfortable in my workout. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Had my first meeting with my doctor yesterday after the seminar a few weeks back and now the ball is rolling.. Met with the nutritionist as well which was very informative. Glad my wife was with me and she is so supportive of this for me as my 15 year old son is as well.. Now all the testing starts and I wish they started tomorrow. Unfortunately, I need to stretch this out for another 4 months because of Aetna, but I can wait because I know in the long run, this is all going to be so worth it.. At some point I need to spring on mom... Not really sure what her reaction will be, as long as she realizes this is for me and my health and I would just like her support. We shal…

Hello, I am approximately 295lbs and attending education classes for surgery. I was originally thinking band, but now thinking sleeve option is better fit for me. Would be interested in hearing from folks who had one or the other done. Pros & Cons Side effects experienced and why you think you experience them. How much weight lost during first month and monthly for first 6 months. Just trying to figure out what surgery option is best. Next class is this Thursday. I have diabetes type 2 and sugar levels have been very high lately. I need to get more exercise! Thanks!

I've started this journey before a few years back, only to back out and think I can do it on my own and that got me no where... So, this is it, I'm ready to do this, Finally!!! Went to my first seminar a few weeks back & my doctors appointment is this Friday. Can't wait! Even got all my medical records ready so there are no hold ups on that end..... Very Excited!! and very inspired reading all your stories..... Randy

Honest question here....... Not sure how to word this so I will just type and hope it does not come off too wrong. I am not an unattractive over weight. I get the side looks from the women when out in public, I keep myself dressed well, good charisma, can still rock a sleeve less shirt and show off the guns, confident etc... I am getting banded as I am just to old to keep playing football and the weight is affecting my martial arts (which is the only hobby i have left). I want to have a better quality and longer (hopefully) life, and to be a better role model for my kids as far as health. I am married to a very attractive women, not over weight which has been a …

Guys, I don't know the proper ratio here but get this: I am down nearly 60lb and have gained an additional 1" of usable (ahem) appendage. Now I guesstimate there to be an additional 1.25" in captivity. Yeah I checked. And without giving actual dimensions I can say that I and my S.O. seem pleased.Good thing that isn't fat because I'm sure we'd be in a panic mode at the thought of losing ANY of it.

I have been lurking since January and I am scheduled for surgery on march 5th. I have been reading and trying to figure ut the post op process and it seems that men handle the recovery process better? I'm not saying we are stronger or mentally more capable to handle the process. I am just saying that I have not seen any of the "regret phase" or pain and sickness posts from any guys. Do you think there is anything to this?

Figured I'd say Hi, as there doesn't seem to be a lot of men on this board. I'm 28, and just recently relocated to the Northwest, and decided it was time to lose this weight. Moving from Texas, where the majority of everyone is severely obese, I found myself in the extreme minority out here. The looks and rude comments behind my back have led me to this point. I also am having extreme knee problems, from walking up two flights of stairs each day at work. I attended a WL seminar last week, and I'm still waiting to hear back from their office on insurance verification for surgery. From all the research I've done with BCBS MA, I don't think there's any issue with me qu…

And I have shed 85lb total. I was a bit stunned to see that I am 355lb and not 440lb. I have about 95lb to my goal but to know that I am nearly half the way there is cool. Maybe by the end of summer I'll be there or pretty damn close...

I posted a "hi" in the introduction forum, but figured I'd do it here also. My name is Joe. I'm 41 and live in a suburb of Buffalo NY. My doctor has been suggesting I have Lap Band since I had my quadruple bypass in 2007. After many years of "thinking it over" I've decided I;m finally ready to take the first step. I'm 5'8" and currently 300 pounds. I know my "ideal" weight is 154, but seriously, that's just a joke. I'd love to get down to 180, but honestly 199 would be fantastic. I can't remember the last time my weight started with a "1" I'm an artisan bread baker by trade so my job is very physically demanding, which is part of the reason I want to have the surgery,…

We've been talking a lot about beer and beer making lately and it's all been in good fun. I'm not banded yet, but will be soon and In reading, I've found some information we all should be aware of. I'm no crusader and like a beer as well as the next guy (or girl), but i feel this is serious. I hope I don't get in trouble with the Admins., but here is the Link:http://www.thinnertimesforum.com/topic/26136-alcohol/ If you think you might like a drink after surgery, Please read this. (Cut and paste from http to alcohol/) it's the fourth article down.
