I don't know if anybody can give me any feedback on this based on their experience but I figured I would ask. I'm getting banded on Nov. 4th of next week. On Nov. 21st I'll be leaving for two weeks of hunting in Canada and Kansas. It will be virtually impossible for me to have mushy or pureed foods for those two weeks and I'm really freaked out I will not be able to hold solid foods down. My doctor doesn't seem concerned about it but I remain leery. I feel confident that I will be able to control my food intake while on this trip as I will be pretty well occupied and active with the hunts. My concern is with eating solid foods before the requisite three weeks of liqui…

I have been about 60 days since my Band with No Complications to speak of. I went Golfing last week and I have a little muscle pain that persisted under my ribs on the left side. It is were I "imagine" my banded part of my stomach is. The day after I golfed I got a small fill, which seemed to increase the muscle pain in that area. My question is if a Golf Swing like Motion can do any damage to the band itself and the tubes it is attached too. Maybe I am being paranoid, but all of my other muscle pain has completely subsided.

I'm posting this in The Men's Room because I need a man's reply. Sorry, ladies, you're not included in this one. Obviously, we guys tend to be hairier than (most ) women, so shaving before surgery is more of an issue. My question for those of you who have been there: How far up and down were you shaved for your surgery? Was it only in the stomach area where incisions were put, or did they shave it all? Did they shave your chest area too? And what about below your waistband? Did they shave anything down there? Did you shave yourself, or did you wait till the surgery people did it? I'm getting ready for surgery in a few weeks, and wondering what to expe…

Well, weighing myself this morning, 7 days out, and I am just over 15 pounds down. I know this won't continue, but I am wondering if this is a bad thing. I had expected 1-2 pounds a week, after I started to get fills and returned to the gym. I am just not feeling hungry right now, but I am eating and drinking as I was told I should. Saw the Doc yesterday and he though all was fine. He said I was feeling like I would at proper restriction. I am chalking this up to swelling. But, it does show what is possible for me. I am still on liquids, I had started pushing into thin Soups and yogurts three days out without issue. I was feeling cocky and tried a small sliver of ro…

  6. Hi, I posted on this before and guess I am looking for some encouragement. For those of you who did not see my original post. I was banded on May 1, 2009 at 300/lbs. Join a jym with a trainer and nutritionist in July of that year and have been working out ever since. I dropped 30/lbs quickly and the last 20 have been a struggle. I have been hovering around the 250 - 258 mark for almost a year. The Nutritionist at the gym had me eating around 1700 - 1800 calories. With this weight was fairly stable around the 258 mark. Went to the Bariatric Nutritionist who says I was eating far too much. And after I loose the weight I can work on increasing calories, she cut me b…

Hey , I had the band over two months ago and have lost forty pounds so far, Im have been having some problems keeping under the 4 oz requirement. I dont eat nearly as much as I used too but I dont have any restriction at this point. I have only had one fill and it just seems like I can easlily eat more than 4oz at a time but I keep it pretty close to the limit. I am terrified that I am streching out my pouch. I know that I am failing my band right now but I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

  8. Hello everyone!!! I just had my 2nd fill yesterday(10cc band) and hardly feel any restriction. The doc told me I have total of 5cc's in the band. I still could basically eat anything I want with very little restriction. I felt when I intially went for my 1st refill (total of 4cc's), I had tiny bit of more restriction, due to money issues wasnt able to get the band filled for almost a year. I am plaining to go back to the doc in 2 weeks to get another fill, hopeing that should do it. How many cc's did it take you to feel restriction and how many cc's were you at your sweet spot. Please let me know. Thanks

Okay, fellas, I'm sure NONE of you have this problem, but you probably know someone who does. My DH has high BP and is on meds for that. Also, he is about 395 and 6'4", so that probably doesn't help either, but he has basically no labido. Maybe I have an over-inflated opinion of myself, but I don't think it's me that's turning him off. I am the same size now I was when we were married ten years ago, and he couldn't keep his hands off me then. What I want to know is if there is anything you guys can suggest that I can do to help him out or do you think it's something I'm doomed to just deal with. Thanks in advance for your responses!

Hi All- Just wrote an introduction, so I won't go through that again, just the specifics for you men in here. I am 41 and I am scheduled to get banded on the 28th. My wife had the bypass last year and it is going pretty well for her. My question for you guys, is did you tell anyone around you what you were up to? My wife told anyone who would listen, and generally the responses were very supportive, congratulations, way to take control, etc. If it wasn't positive, it was generally concern for having to do something so drastic, but still glad she was getting things under control. I, on the other hand, have told no one. Just put in for the vacation time and just …

Guys, I'm mentally preparing for becoming a post op VSG. Wondering about foods after recovering from surgery. I'm a picky eater and pretty much a meat and potatos kind of guy. Never big on veggies. When looking at the recipes forum on this site I see things for squash, quiche, tuna and other related chick foods. I know I won't be able to eat much. But what about hamburger, fried chicken, BBQ, etc. Small amounts possible? Unless my taste buds change drastically (which I have read on here sometimes happens) I will be in for more than a food quantity shock. It will be a major food quality shock. I know the 'man foods' I'm talking about are not great for you. …

First time post here. I'm in the early stages of getting authorized for surgery. Actually attended my first support meeting last night as a prerequisite for surgery. 95% of attendees were Bypass clients, only 3 banded folks. My question is I've been told by my surgeon the banding works better for women than men. Have you found that to be true? Would appreciate hearing from any guys that have been banded to see if it has worked for you. I am hoping to lose 75 pounds. thanks for the info Pocono59

I am having the sleeve on Tuesday and I am in need of the surgery. However, my wife is "jealous" that I am having it and that I will be losing weight "the easy way" as she put it. She is 5'6" and 170lbs and I think she is just fine. She is frustrated on her end of losing weight and I guess she is feeling a little resentful. Problem is, 1) I don't think this will be "easy" and 2) now I feel that I really can't talk to her or count on her for full support. If I do talk to her, now I will feel that I am just making her feel bad. STUCK! Have any other guys had this problem? Suggestions? I think I will be relying on this forum A LOT.....

Will have the sleep study(what is that about) Tuesday. I do have a question, what is the deal with the excess skin after you drop the pounds. Any body had problems with that. I am about five ten and 324 will I end up looking like one of those Chinese dogs with all the loose skin. Having the gastric to get some help with the diabetes the skin thing is what I am worried about. Any insight would be a great help. Thanks Anthony

Gents, I was banded Aug 07. I have lost only about 40 from surgery, but I haven't gained any back which is good. I also had a year with almost no restriction. I have climbed aboard the fitness wagon yet again and I am making progress. My challenge with my AP-L band is that every time I got clost to good restriction (circa 9.7cc) I would develop BAD reflux and need to have an unfill. I tried meds, lifestyle modifications everything. No joy. So now I am wondering, if any of you have experienced the same thing. My hope is that If I can drop another 20 lbs or so, the reflux issue may not be as bad. Or am I just dreaming? I don't want to lose any of this great progress that…

  19. I started at 305 and I am stuck at about 280. I got banded at 298 on June 14th. I have been walking, going to the gym and I discovered that my 25 year old Mountain Bike still works, even if it looks a little funny and the color is goofy. I seem to be stuck at 280. My calorie intake is easily half of what it used to be and my energy level is way up. Mood is good, people are really noticing, but the scale just isn't moving. While I was weighing in on the old doctor's scale, I fiddled around with the height ruler that extends frome the scale pole. Then I stopped playing and checked three more times. Then I ran home and got my 16 year-old to measure me against the bathroom door frame. The verdict remained unchanged: 5'4.1", meaning I have shrunk 1½ inches! As my bemused bairn blithely informed me, men lose an inch every 30 years, so at 50 I am perfectly average. Yeah, thanks a lot, kid! You try to have a statistic ripped from you that's been your loyal friend ever since puberty, a height which stood by you steadfast and unchanging even as your width violently careened out of control and back …

  23. I started April 12 at 409 lbs. with my highest at 412 lbs. Today I am 379 lbs. I feel wonderful and have not been at this weight since 2005. I am excited to keep seeing the scale drop. When I was that lower weight I was wearing 3X size shirts and 48 inch waist pants. Today my sizes have not changed at all despite the loss. I am still in 4X to 5X shirts and 54 inch waist pants. I have seen slight changes in my chin and fat around my neck. My shoe size has changed and I am not uncomfortable in a non-wide shoe. When did other men start to see the more apparent physical changes?

I am interested in how long it took those of you who play golf to get back on the course after surgery? I searched the archives of past posts and only found one thread from over a year ago so I thought I would try and update it. I am scheduled for a June 8th surgery and have family coming to visit the first two weeks of July. We usually manage to get 3-4 rounds in and I am hoping that I might be up to playing a couple the last week they are here. But I am unsure of just how sore I will be or how much my mobility will be limited 2-3 weeks out from surgery. Do you think I’ll be able to pull it off?

It has been a little over a year since my surgery and I have lost 105 pounds to date. Has anyone else noticed an increase in the size of their johnson? I'm not bragging, but it noticeably larger. Not just in length, but in girth. My wife comments on it frequently, she's not complaining....neither am I. I actually asked my doc about it and he said it is not uncommon. The growth in length is merely from losing weight and that area now appearing longer because you can see it and there is not fat in the way. The increase in girth can come from increased levels of testerone once weight is lost. Also something about better blood flow to the area. Whatever the reason...it's…

It almost seems like a silly conversation but I have one friend in particular (a life long thin guy) who insist that obesity is not a factor for men when it comes to attracting women. Although conventional thinking holds that "women don't care about looks" I rarely see over weight men (especially short ones) with attractive women - save for very wealthy men of course. So, I would like to hear specifically from men who have lost significant weight (100lbs or so). Or, guys with waists 34" or less who have lost a good 10". Do you now have an easier time attracting women? And please don't give me any nonsense about being more confident. 4 beers makes any man confiden…

Alright Gentlemen, I have a question regarding drinking water during the day away from meals. I do remodeling for a living and work up quite a sweat. Add in the fact I live in the desert where temps regularly hit 115 degrees during the summer, and that I am pushing 400 pounds, dehydration is a real concern. I usually consume 2-3 gallons of water a day and I need to know how easy it is to drink lots of water away from meal time. I am 8 days away from my surgery and am trying to get into the right mindset so that success will be my only option. Thanks for your help.
