Hi guys. 44 yr old guy new to the site and looking to chat with other men who have had or are getting ready to have the banding procedure. Have finished the 6 months of classes that BC/BS requires and will have a date soon. In February when I started I was 298 and have lost 10 lbs as of yesterday. I suffer from severe sleep apnea and that is the motivation to have the surgery. I'm a dispatch supervisor at 911 and sitting behind a dispatch console for 21 yrs has contributed greatly to my current weight status. Recently am having a case of nerves and I'm worried about chickening out. Like most men...I have committment issues! LOL Seriously, concerned about the cha…

Hi Guys, Had joined the April Bandsters but my surgery was April but was posponed to May 1st. Thought would be good to have a thread for our selves to compair stories. I was banded on May 1st arrived at the hospital 8:00 am, was back at home 2:00 pm. Have to say first few days were uncomforable especailly to sleep but took my meds. Have lost 10 lbs as of today, but am tired of chicken broth. Went to my Nutrisionist today, she said I can start on Non Clear liquids thursday. Am feeling a bit of hunger or something not really sure. The nutrisionist who explained in addition to the medical resons for the diet a big part is to break you of your old habits. Try…

Okay Guys, I am generally distressed about this whole weight fluctuation business. About 6 days ago I weighed 196 and I stepped on the scale this morning after about 5 hours of sleep and weighed 204! I have lost a total of 174 LBS since last July. How could I possibly gain 8LBS in less than a week! My walking has stayed the same, I'm adjusted very well so I can't eat crazy...I mean very well, I can't eat most things. Lots of Pbs. I have delved into some cotage cheese as of recent because I was afraid of how much I had lost and was feeling weak and dizzy when I stand. That has stopped. This has been weeks ago though, I was still losing, then this morning, Bam this morning…

I am getting really frustrated. I have read plenty of posts like this, but I will say it anyways. I have had my first fill and since that time(May 12) I have had no help from my band. A few things about my experience so far since the surgery - I have never gotten stuck, never felt like hurling, I lost weight good at first(6-8 lbs a week), I can eat anything - bread, rice, any meat, chips, cheetos, etc., I can now eat fast without feeling the discomfort I felt before(I still do occasionally). Now, I know that some of the responsibility is on me, but I have tried and I am still trying. Perfect example yesterday: I ate chicken salad on a wheat bun for Breakfast with s…

Is it normal to have a heart burn like pain nearly constantly. It usually only lasts 2-3 seconds but it is throughout the day. Usually when I burp or my stomach spasms a bit. It feels like soreness at the band site. It is starting to bother me 9 days post op. and i think perhaps that the pain meds i was taken up until 7 days post op were keeping it minimal and thats why i didnt notice it. Its really really starting to bother me. I am thinking of going and taking some Extra Strenght Tylenol or something cause its hard to function being in pain all day. Just a note its not constant pain and its not excruciating by any means its just a semi dull heartburn like pain at t…

Ok Guys, any one experience serious mood changes when losing the weight. I was banded in aug 07 and I have only lost about 40 lbs. MY Fault, I OWN IT. I am getting back into the swing by exercising and eating right now. On the rightous path again. I have suffered from pretty severe anxieties for a while now. Almost to the level I should seek professional help. I notice now that I am tracking my food intake with fitday and started P90x, albeit modified that my attitued and anxieties are much better. I found some reports on the interenet linking obesity and anxiety disorder, but wanted to get some first hand experience from you all to see if you have experienced any chan…

I had surgery on 1/8/09 and had no fill at that time. On 2/20 -6 weeks post-op I got first fill of 3cc’s after starting back on food I had no restriction and could eat whatever I wanted how ever I wanted. Doctor makes you wait for 2 weeks before adjustment. I went in on 3/6 and got another ½ cc, at this point no restriction at all. I just scheduled 3/20 for another fill. How much do you have and in what quantity was it administered? When did you get restriction and how do you know when you have it? One more question, is morning hot coffee a bad thing for restriction? Thanks.

I was banded 4 weeks ago and so far I have lost 45 lbs and have lost about 5-6 lbs a week for the last couple of weeks. It has been pretty easy to eat small meals by eating slow and just stopping when I have had enough - I probably could have eaten more, but I chose to stop. I have kept up with all my exercise and food on livestrong.com and have pretty much stayed under 1500 calories a day and usually exercise every day - walking or playing tennis. On to the wagon - I fell off yesterday. For the last week and a half, I have been getting progressively hungrier and unable to last in between meals before feeling empty. I have been snacking (trying to be healthy snacks) some…

I am newly single and VERY self conscious about my "melting body syndrome" with skin hanging loose. How do you men deal with this in your own personal experience? I am scared to death that some man might want to see me naked, and it's not pretty. Do men feel this self conscious? My ex-husband didn't seem to mind because he saw me as it was happening, so it wasn't like he got this big shock because in clothes I looked like a 7 or 8, but naked I was a 2. Just wanting the male perspective. Thanks, guys.

I am a 21 year old college student and have been overweight for many years now and have not been able to lose weight and keep it off. My parents and I have been researching the Lap Band procedure and I have set up a meeting with a surgeon to discuss it in more detail. I would like to get the surgery done this summer while I am not in school so I have time to adjust to all the new changes before coming back to school. I wanted to know what the diet will be like for the first 2 or 3 months after the surgery? And how soon I would be able to eat solid, normal foods again, obviously in much smaller amounts. Oh and by the way when ya have good restriction its EASY, the lbs just fall off, lol I'm not happy to say it but for the most part the band has done all the work, I was walking the first few month but have slacked off, might be time to get my ass in the gym.

I told the person assisting us in the fitting about my upcoming surgery and she sd to wait two weeks before the wedding. If you stay on track most of the time how much can you reasonably expect to lose in the first couple of months?

  21. I have lifted weights on and off all my teen and adult life. I know how to lift weights and generally know what works, but I want some kind of guide or reference to help build a schedule and routine that I can use going forward. I basically want a personal trainer in a book. I want something that covers workout cycling, schedules, etc. to maximize my effort and time. I also want something current. Can anyone help? My goal is maintaining and possibly building a little while I lose weight with the band. I don't want to be huge or freakishly cut because I don't want anything to time consuming or difficult to maintain.

  23. So I have thought about this alot. I have been wondering how the band actually works to help you lose weight. I think the band helps in two ways. The doc builds a pouch that is right above where the band is placed. I assume they do that with stitches or something. That pouch represents 'how much' you can eat at one sitting. I figure that is fairly constant and doesn't change unless the band slips or you stretch it. The other thing that happens is directly controlled by the band. As the band is filled it narrows the passage at the bottom of the pouch. I think the more narrow this passage, the longer it takes for food to digest and pass. What this does is curb hunger and ke…

Size wise would help also. Does it matter if you skip breakfast? Sometimes you just don't have the time. Also if you over do it or something does not agree with you what is the best thing to do when you have that pain in your chest.

After the surgery, for the post op, i require 3 weeks of liquid diet, how does this work? i can have any low calory liquid or just specifics like 1st week Soups, 2nd week juice etc? Thanks
