Hey there guys...I know that this is your room but I thought that you might be able to help me. I was banded on April 30, 2007 and I'm down 125 pounds. I have gone from a size 22/24 to a size 10. Not bad, huh? I feel great, look great and finally have confidence. Here's the thing. Approximately six months ago I discovered that my husband of 10 years had been having an affair for the past year and a half. He told this girl (no one like her deserves to be called a woman) everything about me. She knew when I was having surgery...she knew when I had reached "45" pounds down, she knew about my childhood. So...what the hell is all that about? I know that cheating isn'…

i was banded 3 days ago (10-16) after a 2 hr drive from mexacali and a 2 hr wait at the san diego airport i was informed the flight was cancelled. after another 3 hrs. waiting in another line to find out that there would be no more flights until the next day i was beginning to go a little past pissed. thet did however put me up in a nice hotel not far from the airport for a 9 oclock flight out the next morning. i only had enough liquids that i could eat for 1 more meal. soooooooooo i went to the dining room and ordered a bowl of seafood soup thinking i could only eat the liquid part. to my suprise i could eat it all with no problem. i later went to the store and…

Wow all I can say is this band thing is the best, 40 lbs down and 80 to go! The Good: 1) that crazy hunger switch that has been on for 41 years is now turned off. 2) no longer crave carbs, not even a little. 3) down 3 holes in my belt 4) all my tight stuff is no longer tight. 5) I was lucky I always felt good about my self but now Im feeling GREAT 6) My wife is no longer worried about me putting on more and more weight. 7) Its been VERY easy I just walk 5 times a week for a few miles 8) I know this will add years to my life, I lucked out and had no weight related health problems or any health problems at all. 9) lol its saving me money, not spending lots of cas…

After months of doing all the various appointments and completing them all I finally had it all done. The Dr's assistant said she would schedule my surg right away. That was over 2 weeks ago. I called last week and left a message. No body even called me back. I need to plan things with my business so I can take time to recover. My wife is a nurse she wants to take time off to take care of me. I guess I will call the doctor today.

It is about time that I introduce myself since I have been lurking on these forums since early 2008. Hi, I am Charles. I am from Louisiana (land of the best food). I was banded in March of this year and I have lost over 100 pounds. My wedding band is falling off (i need to have it resized). I have moved down 12 pant sizes. Other acheivements is that I haven't had a soda since a month before being banded. I rarely have more than a bite of any snack foods or any fast foods. I am rarely ever hungry so I would consider my banding a success even though I some more work until I hit my goal. By the way, anyone ever fantisize about getting your band unfilled before Th…

Greetings from the City of Brotherly Love! I'm about to get banded on 11/10, and I can't wait for my knee and back to stop hurting. I have a detached medial meniscus and have been walking with a cane for the past 6 months. I've been having trouble with overeating for my whole life and I hope that, after banding, I'll get sick if I overeat, thereby providing me with negative reinforcement and forcing me to develop new eating habits. Phen-fen worked so well with me, I was extremely pissed when it was withdrawn. Anyone with a similar experience? Hope to hear from y'all soon! -Jon

Just had my first fill and was told to be on a liquid diet for the next 72hrs. Is this what you all where told also? I was not expecting this but if it is what I have to do I guess I'll do it. I'm so sick of liquids :girl_hug:

im up for my first fill in a week. i have an empty 10 cc band and am wondering in general, how many cc's do they put in for the first fill. id rather not have to go back 4-5 times at 1 cc at a time. id rather them be a bit more aggressive than to nickel and dime me to death. i have to drive a long way for a fill and there 250 each. could add up fast.

Hi Guys: Looking for some advise on a radio. Don't think I would like the ones I see with wires from the ears to a Radio or ipod that I see people use. Think I would like the earmuff type. So far I have not found many on line but did look at a Peltor Digital worktunes EARMUFFS looks pretty good but $100 bucks seams high to me for a radio. Would you have any suggests on what you like or don't like. Thanks

Hi Guys - I now have my Surgery Date 11/19/08 things looking great right. OK now I am little worried what have I done? Anyway will be joining this elite Men’s Club soon (Men’s Room Right) Was also kind of wondering if many Men will be doing this with me here at the end of the year?

I'm about 2 weeks banded now and had a drink for the first time the other night. A beer was a bit too filling so a friend made me a fruity drink with tequila and the low sugar V8 tropical fruit juice and some triple sec. Let me tell you after 2 drinks I was FLYING! I'm talking a 12 beer buzz flying. I was never a big drinker to begin with, but I'm going to save a lot of money on booze. Any ideas why a band makes you so much more susceptible to alcohol?

Hey guys, long time listener first time caller. I just found out today that my insurance company is going to cover my surgery. My wife and I had already decided we would pay cash for the procedure so when we found out today that our insurance was going to cover it we where very excited to say the least. My surgery is scheduled for next friday the 23rd. My question to you all is this; My doctor does not have me on any kind of a pre surgery diet. It sounds like a lot of you had to, did anyone out there have the same experiance i am having, eat whatever you want up to the day of surgery?

Guy's: I've been recovering great and am on solid food again. What's scaring me is I'm finding I can eat more. Not as much as before, for sure, but more normal portions. My weight loss has stalled at about 20 lbs. I'm battling with portion control and 5 days at the Y on the elliptical machine. This reminds me of the old battle without the band. I have an Appt. with my surgeon on 10/28. I think I'll request a fill. I'd appreciate hearing about similar experiences. Thanks!

I never thought I would be PROUD to be overweight. I weighed a mere 245 lbs this morning. The BMI charts show that puts me into "overweight" and that sure looks better than "morbidly obese" category that 338 lbs put me in around the first of this year. Thanks for letting me brag and I hope everyone else is reaching their goals. db

Do you even have support going through this change from your wife/girlfriend/friend. Just wondering, and also, has losing the weight given you confidence to date if your single?

Hello all, it has been a while since i've posted but i do check in regularly, and your posts keep me encouraged and on track. I have alot of restriction now, maybe a little too much. I have a couple of questions i was hoping you could help with. First, cold drinks don't go down too easy is this normal? Second , i have read that some of you are or were very strong men, i have always enjoyed lifting , never to the point of being a powerlifter but always able to attain a well above average amount of strength fairly easily. Now during my weight loss i'm struggling just to maintain what i have , so any chance of achieving my previous strength seems hopeless. Is it impossible t…

As in, I've lost enough weight to have lost her. Today I hit 55 pounds lost, which is how much my seven year old weighs. Puts weight loss in perspective when I look at her and imagine carrying her around with me all the time. No wonder I was so damn tired. My blood pressure is completely normal now without medicine, and I feel better than I've felt in years. Of course, it's also great at work now that people are starting to notice my weight loss and make comments. Wow-this was the best decision I've ever made!

I'm still alive, and doing well See http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f12/manatees-turn-plastics-75422/ for (hopefully!) the final stages of this process. And just as a reminder of where I started, see the pic from April 2007. That's a 48" pant (+overhang!), now I'm in a 33-34" I didn't have as far to go as some of y'all, but I'm still proud of the progress

I've been on a liquid diet for five weeks now (2 weeks pre-op and now 3 weeks post-op). During that time, I've been routinely consuming no more than 1000 calories per day-often a lot less than 1000 calories. For four weeks, I was losing weight like mad, and now in the past week my weight loss has pretty much stopped. I've been reading various places that after a little bit of time on very low calories, you're body lowers metabolism to preserve energy which stalls weight loss. The problem is, I'm finding it hard to increase my calories much on a liquid diet without blowing all of the rules and having high calorie liquids. So, these are my questions: When you were …

The nurse offered me a copy of my surgery, everything was recorded as seen through the laparoscope. I was interested what my insides looked like and took the offer. Very interesting to see things in there and what exactly what the doctor did. Some parts I couldn't figure out what they were....or if it was just fat. Anyone else able to view their surgery? Or would you want to if given the chance? It does come in handy when I want to clear the kids out of the room! Just put that on and they run in all directions.

Hey Guy's: My surgery is scheduled for Thursday. I went to see my GP yesterday because I had been told that I could take nothing larger than a baby asprin after lap band surgery. I take Glucophage which is a large oblong pill and several other larger pills. He told me that none of his patients have had any problems taking these pills so no changes were made to my prescription. My pharmacist says that Glucophage cannot be crushed due to its time release properties. Should I be concerned? I see info on this site that says you should grind up pills and take them with applesauce and such. I don't want to come home from surgery and get a pill stuck.

Hey guys - I'm one week post band, and continuing to adjust to the liquid diet. I start blended foods tomorrow, so I'm pretty psyched. However, as I continue to salivate over foods that I can't eat yet, I wonder if I will ever be able to eat them again. I realize that everyone is different, but are there some common foods that become problem foods after the band? Here's my list of foods that I love that I'm very anxious over the possibility of not getting to eat ever again. Now I understand many of these foods are not the best nutritionally, and should not be part of a bandster's daily diet regimen. I also understand that the occasional cheat is inevitable, perhap…

Hey guys, So, today has been one week since my surgery and 3 weeks since I started my liquid Optifast diet to get ready for surgery. In the 3 weeks since I started the liquid diet, I'm down 29 pounds. I also had lost 10 pounds prior to starting Optifast by trying to make some of the changes recommended by the dietitian, which means I'm down 39 pounds from my all time high wait from July of 304 pounds. I'm no longer using my CPAP machine, and I'm no longer morbidly obese. I know that I still have a long road ahead of me, but right now I feel like I am envisioning a life that I truly never thought I would have again. I'm actually even thinking of trying to train t…

Well guy's, As of yesterday, I'm banded! Surgery went well. I'm home relaxing and on a liquid diet. Reminds me of my old Optifast days! A little soreness but the pain meds take the edge off. Looking forward to slaying the dragon with my new weight loss tool!!

Hi guys, So I'm on day three now. Today was my first day on full liquids. It was really tough for me to get 64 ounces of Fluid down, forget 70 grams of Protein. I find that nearly anytime I drink, I get really nasty gas pains. Maalox helps some, as does walking, but if this continues I'm not sure how I'm going to manage to get all of the nutrients I need through liquid. Anyone else have this problem right after banding? Bryan

Are any of you on-or were any of you on-Urso Forte to prevent gallstones? It's the foulest stuff I've ever tasted. It's way too big to pass through the band, so it has to be ground. I've tried it in Soup, applesauce, and V8, and it is horrible in any of them. Anybody ever find a good way to take this foul stuff? Bryan:confused:

Hi Guys, Well, I'm not one day post op. Getting ready to leave the hospital and thought I'd do a quick post. Yesterday was not bad at all-no pain. Didn't realize that was because the anesthesia hadn't quite worn off. This morning was a little rough-most just in terms of gas pain in my abdomen, which to some degree is still continuing. At this point, I just can't wait to get home. I think the first thing I said as I came out of anesthesia was, "Sh*t, I can't get out of this now." But I'm really excited about living a new life where food doesn't have to be my enemy anymore. Bryan

Well after doing my homework and going to the seminar I have my first appointment Oct. 10th. I work only 1 mile from the hospital and clinic and my boss says I can use my lunch hour anytime of the day so I hope to have allot of momentum. I'm scared and happy at the same time.

I'm beginning to think that I'm done on this weight loss thing  I'm down 100, but still have a spare tire that's just not going away, and the weight has been stable for about 8 months now. Should I just abandon the washboard abs dream, and just accept that at 40 most dudes are chubby? bleah

Surgery went well on Monday. Everything went well until I had the morphine. It made me extremely sick. I had to spend the night but after getting sick on the morphine I was glad. The next morning I had a swallow study and saw the band on the x-ray machine. Whatever I had to drink for that did not taste very good and made me a little sick again. I came home Tuesday afternoon. Today is the first day back that I have more energy and the gas pains are finally subsiding. My wife had her surgery on Tuesday. Her's went well but she had to spend an extra night in the hospital b/c her sugars were not completely stable. She just got home about an hour ago. She is doin…

Hi everyone, I've posted a couple of times but haven't actually introduced myself. My name is Bryan Riley, and I live in New Jersey and am having my surgery in Newark, Delaware. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. I'm really excited but also feeling a bit nervous and scared-and having a few second thoughts. But I know that this is right for me, and I'm determined and ready. Bryan

Fellas.......I am 7 weeks post op and fealing great. My comments and question is this: I was a big diet Pepsi drinker prior to surgery, love the stuff. Since getting banded I haven't even so much as sniffed one because I want to be a good boy and follow the docs orders. However......a diet Pepsi at the end of the day sure would be a nice no calorie treat. Have any of you guys tried carbinated drinks since getting banded and if so how did it affect you?

Maybe it was ignorance or foolishness or both, but I have had several instances recently in which I felt food (poorly chewed) get stuck and have reflexively grabbed a water glass to get unstuck. I know this is a bad idea (I have just now read several threads that warn about this), but confess that it happened. I am firmly committed that I won't let it happen again. About 2 times out of total of 4 occurences, the drinking made things much worse. Serious pb'ing, pain etc, etc. But I have to say that the other two times, taking a drink created a momentary sensation of pressure and then the stuck became unstuck. Understanding that I am committed to not doing this ag…

:cursing: Hello everyone I was banded on the 5th of august in Singapore, I lost 18 LBS of 325 the first week and now on the 28th of August I'm at 297 LBS WOO HOO!!! My question is I find I can eat more than I should (more than a cup) I still stick to healthy foods but is this normal??? I don't want to do anything to make my band slip or make the pouch bigger.I ride the bike at the gym everyday for 20 - 30 minutes I find this works very well in getting weight off I also feel my energy levels going thru the roof. Anyway if any one has any comments I'll be waiting. P.S. Can anyone tell me how to update my ticker?

Well, this time tomorrow I will be banded. I have to report to the hospital at 6am for a 7:30 surgery time. I can't believe it's here already. Thanks guys for all your informative posts. It's helped me become more prepared for this surgery. I was nervous but now I'm excited and can't wait until it's over. I have to spend the night so I will be back sometime on Tuesday to let you know how everything went.

Well, today is the start to becoming banded. I officially start the two week pre-op diet. I'm a little nervous about giving up certain foods and wondering if I will be able to survive on just Protein shakes and veggies. My wife is starting with me today even though she doesn't have to officially start until tomorrow. She wants to get an extra day. For the past couple of weeks I haven't been dieting, but with my wife we were visiting all of our favorite restaurants so we could order our favorite foods. Yesterday, for our last meals we went to Red Lobster for lunch and then an Italian restaurant for dinner and I pigged out for the last time. It has been our "Tour …

Question for you guys, I am constantly having a debate with my dw about weight lifting. She feels I should not by building at all, but just trying to tone and burn fat. I feel that the more I build the better I will be in the long run. Besides I am a guy and when I get relatively skinny I want to have significant muscle. She keeps telling me that the additional muscle will just keep me looking fat. How much truth is there to the statement that more muscle burns more calories? What approach are you guys taking to the weights? Another thing Is I am working out quite a bit more lately, but my weight loss has all but stopped. I am not sure if it is my diet, or what…

Been about a month since I checked in here... Had my first fill about a month ago. It was a crappy experience, but long story short he put in 3 cc's, did the barium swallow and decided that was too much. Pulled off 1 cc, it looked better. Then we decided that since it was my first fill, and I would be out of the country for the better part of three weeks, to pull off another .5 cc's. So I had 1.5 cc's in me. Trips went fine. Found out what "stuck" felt like a few times, but it wasn't too bad. Never hurled. But I knew I was able to eat more than I should. Came back from the first trip (a pure vacation) and had gained 3-4 pounds. Came back from the second trip…

Sorry to intrude in the men's room, but this is the best place I knew to ask my question. I am just starting the process to get banded, and my husband has a lot of questions about possibly having the band himself. He works in industrial maintenance where he has to bend, squat, lift, crawl.... Basically, he has a pretty phsically demanding job. He is worried that the band might be incompatible with his type of work as he is sometimes in awkward positions. I admit I peeked in the thread about what you fellas do, but I don't understand a lot of the job titles. I did see a firefighter, I think, and that MUST be physically demanding. I wondered if any of you have physica…

As I am quite aware, men's bodies are different from womens'. I read about expected results, percentiles and all that stuff but wonder if the numbers for us guys might be different. I started my two week pre-op diet 17 minutes ago and can't wait to get this all over with. But I wonder what I can truly expect to lose after this procedure. Any of you guys willing to share your results? I'm also curious what you think helps with your success.

Does losing a large amount of weight have a dramatic affect on severe sleep apnea? I attend my first orientation soon so it will be awhile until I have surgery. As one who suffers from severe apnea and can't tolerate CPAP I am curious as what results to expect from being banded. My BMI is 40.3.

Well well well. I was banded on March 17th (Go Shrinking Shamrocks!) My first fill was with my surgery Doc and went well. Felt restrictions right away. Didnt lose weight but actually gained the following month. My fault due to continuing with liquid calories, yogurt, jello soups etc... 2nd fill was bad, new Doc that does fills from 2nd fill on. Sed I was eating too much and wrong foods and didn't want to do the fill. I was under the impression i wouldnt be able to eat after getting fills, I was wrong. I need to also start up exercising again, I am a little disgruntled and off set mainly because I know i did bad. anyone else out there with similar problems??????

Hey Guys, I am new here and still in the beginning stages of this. Have my first appointment with the surgeon next week and I am a bit apprehensive albeit committed to getting it done. I weigh 360# and have struggled all my adult life with eating and my weight. At one time I was a competitive powerlifter, seems like a million years ago, but after many injuries I had to give it up. Never gave up the massive appetite though so here I am. Guess I am just looking for some encouragement from other guys who have gone thru this or are going thru it. I do have a former lover/friend who was one of the first in the country to get it done post FDA approval and she has been very supp…

Several weeks ago there was a thread with a link to an article about how people lose more weight when they write everything down. After reading the article I decided to keep a food journal once I start the two week pre op diet. Yesterday I was at GNC and found a perfect food journal called "DietMinder." There is a place to record every meal, Water consumption, vitamins/medications, and even has a place to record daily exercise. You can also find the journal at it's website by the same name (dietminder.com). Anyway I just thought it would share a great product to help in our weight loss journey.

Guys, The exchange pasted below from "Susan" the moderator is self explanatory. It seems our forum moderators feel it is their responsibility to actively monitor which computers I and members of my family are using. Having thought it over, I have decided that this invasion of privacy on a health-related issue is an unwarranted. My daughter, MineFine, can do what she wants, but I am out of here. Sorry to go. You have been a very supportive group. CirrusPilot I am happy to explain: Two people, same household. One is me (CirrusPilot). The other is my daughter (MineFine). My wife may join soon as she is also considering being banded. Although I understan…
