I have a couple of weeks off after my surgery, and I'm hoping to recover a bit from a killer year as well as my surgery. I'm not going to overexert myself, but I'm wondering, how quickly after surgery were people able to DO stuff? Like, go downstairs, walk for a block without trouble, put my clothes on without discomfort, and, most importantly - go to the movies. Seriously. I want to be able to walk the three city blocks from my house, sit down and enjoy a two hour movie. Would I be able to do that a couple days after surgery, or more like a week? I know we're all different, but it seems to me that the surgery isn't a big deal, just small incisions and a lot of air i…

How soon is to soon? I'm three weeks post-op today and I was told to just take it easy until my first fill, which will be another two weeks. Started 320 got down to 275 and am now back to 281. I'm going the wrong way! I havent been walking as much as I could but what does "take it easy" really mean? With NO restriction, I feel I could eat a horse. I have tried to eat as I should, small portions, healthy foods & veggies but the pounds keep creaping back up. I plan to call the Dr. today but they were VERY adiment that there would be NO fills before the five week period. I understand self control but when you know you can eat more it sure test the will power! Any ad…

Curious to hear about how Lap-Band surgery has helped people to cut back on their meds. For my Psych eval I told the Therapist I wanted to cut back on the meds as much as I wanted to lose the weight. I take meds for Diabetes, High BP, Afibb, Cholesteral and Asthma. A total of 16 differant meds in all. I am encouraged by the thought of getting off as much medication as possible. I don't expect to stop all the meds, but would like to cut back on as many as possible. I haven't heard or read much on the topic and would like to hear everyone's comments. Thanks, Jeff "Big Unc" (soon to be "Normal Unc" ?)

Hi Folks, Figured I would introduce myself. My name is Quinn and I am getting banded in Toronto on Feb. 11 at noon. I have spent countless hours on this and other websites researching the procedure and what to expect from life after the band. Dr. Cobourn at the SWLC is doing my surgery and I have all of the confidence in the world in him as a surgeon. I am a self pay, Type II diabetic, single dad, although I am not going to be single for long. The love of my life said yes and we are planning to get married in June. At this point, re-inventing my golf swing minus belly is my biggest concern, although general anxiety has overwhelmed me the last few days. Not sleepin…

Today, I had my first fill. I was nervous at first, but I didn't feel the needle going into the port. I banded with a 10 cc band, and the doctor gave me 4 cc today, and boy let me be the first one to tell you.....I can tell the difference already. My question for the forum what was your first fill?

I went to the doctor's today, and since my surgery, I lost 10 lbs, which I think is great in itself. I am on my way to the gym to hit the weights.

I'm 32 years old and wondering what monst of the guys here do during workout? I'm mostly doing 30min Biking, some light reps on biceps, tricepts, and chest, then jogging 25-30min jogging. I know it dont seem much but I was only working out 2 week before but started to plateau so now i'm working out 4-5 times a week which got me going on losing again. Are most of you guys doing mostly cardio or lifting weight?

I had my LBS on 2-25-08 and was sent home with an OnQpainbuster Medicine pump. It is a collapsable ball filled with a local anesthetic by a tube implanted under the skin at the incision wound site. It was filled with approx. 5 days worth of meds. I am curious if anyone else had the same thing or something similar to use post LBS.

I'm starting the "program" with a counselor and either I do it without the band, or I work on getting the band sometime in the near future (8-10 months). First I have to work on weight management plan. First thing I need is a good weight scale for the "full figured" dieter. Something that will handle 350#, not usually found at wal-mart. Any suggestions about what and where I can find one? Thanks,

I was banded on 2-4-08, and I have been losing weight since I was banded. This week I gained one pound, and I know it's not much weight....but I want to continue losing weight. I have increased my cardio workout to an average of 45 minutes on the t-mill. Any suggestions?

Ok Guys I have a question about the liquid diet. I've been on a liquid diet for 3 days and my stomach has revolted. First 2 days were normal liquids and today has been clear liquids. 1 more day of clear liquids with my surgery scheduled for Monday morning. I can't seem to stay off the comode. Is this normal? Amodium has not helped. I don't remember hearing anything about possibly having this problem from the Surgical team.

Hello everyone. I was just banded on Mon. 2/18/08 and am going to the gym on Friday to see what I can do. Everything feels great and I haven't been slowed down any at home. I was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to what I should work on, what to stay away from. Any Advice at all would be helpful. I'm planning on asking the trainers for help, but I would love to hear from people that are actually going through the same thing as me. Take care

Chicken goes down hard for me and I'm getting kinda tired of tuna. I'd like to stick with the high protein low carb diet and I usually have a couple protein shakes a day. I'm just not creative in in the food fixin dept (but use to be good at eating what was put in front of me!) My wife does the cooking for her and the kids so I'm on my own. Any creative suggestions?

You all may have seen this, but I thought I'd post it anyway...it's so true: The Man Rules At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down Finally , the guys' side of the story. ( I must admit, it's pretty good.) We always hear " the rules " From the female side. Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules! Please note.. these are all numbered "1 " ON PURPOSE! 1. Men are NOT mind readers. 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 1. Sunday sports It's like the full moon or…

Hey all, Just wanted to share my pre-band thoughts. I think reading all your post's is helping me cope with the nervousness of the events of tomorrow. I just want it to be Saturday already. Anyway I am on my 2 day clear liquid diet and I am so very hungry. I am trying not to get to grumpy :cursing:, My wife and kids have been great. Well I will post as soon as a can after the fact. I am very exited about the new life ahead of me. Can anyone tell me if I will be hungry after surg. If not about how long did it take to get hungry again. Thanks to all. Mike

Everything seems to be ok. I went back to work on Monday (D Day +3) and regreeted it. Stayed home Tuesday, half days Wed, Thurs, and Friday. Plan on a full day this Monday. Followed recommended diet, no problems. I was having a lot of discomfort because of gas. I no longer can burp. I called the Drs. Office and told them I could not burp. They advised me to come right away because they wanted to let some "air" out of the tire. I told them I would wait a week and if it continued to bother me as much as it was, I would go in. As of yesterday, the chest pains from gas are minimal, but still no burp (and I used to be proud of my belches). All in all, I am happy with the way t…

So, I'm heading for the chop in March, and want to make the most of the next month to lose weight. My doc insists on a two week pre-op liquid diet to shrink the liver; I start that on 2/23. Reading through the Just Us Guys thread, one commenter mentioned that at his nutrition session, the nutritionist told them that they should Protein load before they went into the liquids phase (I can't find the commenter since the system doesn't seem to be able to find the post). In truth, I'm kind of surprised you can "protein load", but it seems that you likely go into a lower protein intake in the liquids/mushies phase. So, has anyone heard of this? If so, how is it done? Is it,…

Hey guys, Are you able to drink when you have the band. I know that beer looks like it is out. If you do drink, what are you drinking? How much compaired to pre-banding. Some people say that they can drink, but not as much. Not that I am looking to drink a handle of JD, but would like to have some drinks at a party or on a Friday/Saturday night. I know that drinking is not good for weight loss....but you know....game time...BBQ's.....I like to tilt a few. Your thoughts........

Guys - haven't been around on the board for a couple months and it shows. I have gained 6 lbs back and have come to the conclusion that I cannot do this without a support group. Man I feel like such a pussy for even saying that. Anyway - today is a new day and I am looking to get back on track. Anyone have any suggestions or comments on how they have stayed on track or kept the motivation going. Please advise as I need help. scott:help:

Tomorrow I will join the LOSER club. I am getting nervous and excited at the same time. I am looking forward to my new life! I am taking several before shots and once I am banded, I will do after shots later.

I'm currently in the 2nd month of my 6 month "physician supervised diet", and if I have any problems with my ins. company at the end of the 6 months, I'm seriously considering a trip south of the border. Have any of the guys on here had your lap band placed in Mexico? thanks, John

[Rant] For the woman that recently came back into my life, What happened to all the nice guys? The answer is simple: you did. See, if you think back, really hard, you might vaguely remember a Platonic guy pal who always seemed to want to spend time with you. He'd tag along with you when you went shopping, stop by your place for a movie when you were lonely but didn't feel like going out, or even sit there and hold you while you sobbed and told him about how horribly the (other) guy that you were fucking treated you. At the time, you probably joked with your girlfriends about how he was a little puppy dog, always following you around, trying to do things…

I'm brand spankin new here and I'm sitting here in the middle of the night thinking...OK 46 years old, 330 lbs, been on diets since I was 10 years old and it's time to do something. I've been talking to my wife who has some concerns that it won't work, it's dangerous (like being 330 aint), I might find another addiction, etc... I don't think it's not that she doesn't want me to do it, it's just well heck I don't know. Did you talk to your other close friends beforehand or just dive in. My biggest concerns are cost, will I be able to maintain it, will it have any negative effects on my/my family down the road. Any comments? Tank you berry berry much!

I was scheduled to be banded on 2-4-08, but on last week my doctor's wanted a EKG, and my EKG was slightly abnormal, so I got to go to a specialist on Monday. Hopefully I will still be able to get banded on 2-4-08.

Had the surgery yesterday (Friday). So far everything is as predicted. Pain pretty much under control, wish I could say the same for the gas. I am also used to sleeping on my stomach which I thought would be a problem. It is, but sleeping on my side seems to be ok although I slept about four hours last night (time right now is 4 am!). The nurse told me I should burp when possible but have not been able to except for one mealy mouse lady-like belch.:hurray: Have not eaten solids in 34 hours and surprisingly I am not hungry. Have been sipping water and OJ. For dinner last night, bullion. Bottom line - everything is ok. Oh yea, port was placed above belt line. I am a teache…

I am new here and go under the knife this Friday (1-25-08). Only major concern at this point is I have to be back to work on Monday. A little concerned about discomfort of port around belt line. Is it possible to ask the Dr. ahead of time to place the port where it will not interfere with belt line?

Thanks to whoever setup this section. Having weight loss surgery seems like only a chick thing, so I wonder if I've lost my membership to the men's club. However, in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter what other's think. What matters is losing the weight and living better. So that's my frame of mind now. I just got banded on Monday, December 31st. I'm nearing the end of the clear liquid diet phase. It can't end soon enough for me. How's everyone else doing? If you've done it, was it worth it?

Hi. I'm new. I have had my band for almost a year now. I lost 65 pounds counting the pre surgery liquid diet. I didn't eat a bite for about forty-five days and as soon as i could eat after the surgery I started eating and haven't slowed down since. As of now I have gained almost all of it back. Has anyone else had any problems with wanting to eat although they don't need to. Any advice would be appreciated.:help:

My Nurse Coordinator explained how everyone getting the Lapband procedure should identify what their goal weights should be. I have tried to determine what mine should be using the BMI index as a reference. I am a 46 yr old male 6' 1" inches tall. According to the BMI index I should be between 140 to 189 to fall in the normal range. I was thinking 200 lbs would be an ideal goal for me but this puts me in the overweight catagory. Does anyone feel the same way as I? My wife and I both think that 189 is too light for my body style. I have a rather long thick trunk with shorter legs (28" inseam). I am just curious on how the BMI chart was created and what criteria determ…

Hey guys - not sure if i pb'd or slimed as this is my first experience with this. I wasn't paying attention and swallowed too big of a bite and it got stuck. I felt like i was going to die. But remembering what others have said i chose not to panic and got up and started walking around. Not wanting to puke in public i made my way to a bathroom where i just stood there expecting it to come up. But it did not,. It jsut sat there and i started having to spit because i was filling up with saliva. a few clearings of my throat the pressure/stuckness seemed to pass. nothing came up but spit but i am worried a little about it. Any help will do.

Hi guys For those doing weight training, I have a question. I've been on a plateau for a while, and that's fine. One thing I've noticed though is that my belly area is actually starting to push outwards again. I asked my trainer about this, and he stated that it was because of increased muscle mass in the core areas below the abdominal fat layers. Fact? Possible? Total BS? I don't think I'm eating badly right now

What's in your home gym, and what do you really use and like? For me, I'm using my rower and my exercise bike (plus a daily multimile walk). I have some other stuff that I've accumulated over the years, such as a bowflex unit and an elliptical machine, but I've not yet added them to my new program. How about you all?

Any advice? I'm anxious/excited/nervous and even a little scared.

I woke this morning and I was in a panic....thought I was banded. I have some hand-ups about getting the surgery. I am moving along with the pre-op regimen and am doing well with completing what the doc wants me to do. Here is what I have done so far...... sleep apnea test....positive Blood work....nine tubes...would help if they can find the vein...darn nurse PT....one more session Throat scope....next week Nutritionist....next week I am looking at a mid January surgery date....that is if insurance is not a hump about giving me the all clear. Concerns: *food and what I can eat. *Getting sick...I know I have asked this before (PBing) I looked at how I eat…

Ok so am I the only one who has a hard time letting go of that old belt that you wore when you were at your largest? I mean I just love the fact that I have had to add like 8 holes in it to make it smaller. I don't know maybe its just like a trophy to me or something of that nature. My GF was telling me to buy a new one and I told her she was nuts lol. I guess she would never understand considering she is only 110 lbs lol. So am I the actual crazy person or are there more of us out there?

I thought I'd start a thread to share the special times of our journey. I invite everyone to participate. I think it helps to "feed" on others success. You might help make a difference in someone else's life. I've received a lot of my motivation from guys like ousooner and Jack. I'll start it off by saying that today is my 6 month mark of being banded and I haven't regretted one minute of it. After a fast start, my weight loss has slowed down, but I'm very happy to be 2/3 of the way to my goal. I go in for a fill on Thursday. I have always had a nice weight loss following fills, so maybe I'll be under 200 in the next couple weeks. I tend to lose in bunches and I am d…

Hey Guys, I get my banded on Tuesday and I am pretty excited. I have spent the last couple of weeks trying to figure out how fast I can lose the 70 pounds I need to lose and I have been trying use other peoples numbers as a gauge. My question is shouldn't I at least be able to do what I have normally done without the band? For example I can lose 40 pounds in 3 months without the band (cant keep it off) so I should at least be able to match that with the band. I was 5 years younger and didn't have ACL surgery back then but I should still get close to those results right? Sorry if this is a stupid question but maybe you guys have been able to tell a difference in weigh…
