Thought its time to invade some privacy, so i'm opening bearded's room door... Fresh male here, saying hello to all. Wish there was a simple "introduce urself"section. I find "tell ur story"too dramatic hehe...no story to tell, just hoping I did the right choice.

Hi All, I am a 39 year old male. I was banded on Sep 3 '09. I started the two week pre-op diet at 322Lbs and am now 261Lbs...I am just a hair over 6'. I was obese for about 8 years (30-38) and spent most of my adult life about 215-235. I even had a few years 28-30 as a health nut....working out like crazy. My goal is to get down below 200. By no means am I being a model patient. I have a hard time drinking 8-10 glasses of Water per day and I have not been exercising. Weight loss has slowed to 1-2 Lbs a week (which is GREAT) I am concerned about saggy skin. Right now my belly is shrinking and there is less "hanging over" but, I am concerned that I will always h…

Hi guys, first off let me state I am extremely thankful to have found this forum. Seeing other guys that had the surgery helped encourage me to take the plunge. So... I just had my first solid meal(mushy stuff last week). So far I'm not sure what I have lost. I had lost 20lbs in two weeks pre surgery, The crappy Taylor scale would never give a reading. Oh well, My question is how long should I wait before I begin lifting again. I am 6'6'' and weighed 422 at surgery (441 high) Any advice, input, or general comments are appreciated. Thanks, Daniel

I had my first visit early March and was approved by insurance. Just visited the surgeon today. Having the surgery April 2nd. It's all going so fast... I'm excited to get things on the road. I'm having a hard time with the pre-op diet. My surgeon is not too strict... wants me to cut back on Fat, Carbs, and Sugar. I haven't had a Lot of food, but can't say I've been perfect. It's time to buckle down... but can't get the thought of the 'last real meal' out of my mind. :tt1:

Hey guys out there how many calories is the best range for steady weight loss. I ve seen it posted on the nutrition section but mostly women were posting their calorie counts but I believe men eat a different amount of calories. I just feel I'm just not eating the right amt of calories.
-
I am a week post-op and wanted some input from some of you career guys that got the band. I'm relatively in the early stages of my career and was wondering how much you think that being "obese" hurt your chances at all of opportunities or promotions and such. Unfortunately, people initially judge eachother by how they look and I always felt in the back of my mind that I would have had a better shot at landing that interview if I wasn't so large. Did the band and losing the weight help anybody's career or their professional goals? I'm really curious to see if there's a correlation between the two. Look forward to your thoughts.

Please bare with me as this might be a longer post. I belive thiss belongs in the men's form because I cant relate to how people are eating when I read other posts...by women. I am looking for input from people more experience than me. I have been banded since sep 3rd. Including 2 weeks on the preopp diet I have lost 55 LBS. I got a fill about 2 weeks ago of 2CCs (obviously 1st fill). It seems like my daily caloric intake is a whole lot higher than others that I have heard of with the band. I started to track calories on my other lapband site. I see that I am taking in about 1860 calories a day(tracking for 3 days). I am about 6-6'1'' and now about 267LBS. From …

Hi guys, I thought I'd post a question over here to you to see if I can understand my husband better. Both he and I are overweight. I'm almost 300 (5'5") and he's around 380 (5'9"). Even when we both weighed about 50 pounds less, he was never that into sex, although I know he was in the past when he weighed even less. By the way, I am planning on getting the band before the year is out. He doesn't think WLS is the answer for him. We haven't had sex in close to four months. Normally, we'd try to have it at least once a month, but only if I insist upon it. He has never initiated it. He doesn't have issues with getting or maintaining an erection, so that isn't th…

I just received my approval from Aetna. I was expecting some issues with Aetna, but I was approved on my first attempt after meeting all of Aetna's requirements. My surgery date is November 30th. My Surgeon is Dr. Geiss in Syosset, Long Island NY. Has anyone recently been banded by Dr. Geiss? I am interested in hearing about the day of the surgery and the few days afterwards. Also, how did you do with the liquid diet before the surgery. Thanks, Sal

Just wanted to say hi. My name is Paul and I had sleeve surgery on July 28. I couldn't be happier. No pain, no nausea, no vomiting. Also down about ten pounds since the surgery. Haven't found many men who've had the sleeve. It will be nice to have someone to talk to.

thought i'd start a new thread for us guy who are being banded in sept. my surgery is on the 18th. ive lost about 8 lbs. just worrying about it. scope will be on the 15th. it was suppose to be on the 1st but when the nurse was about to put in the iv she asked me who was driving me home. i said me. she said no your not you can't drive for 24 hours after the procedure. i said i sure wish somebody would have told me that! jerks!! anyway i've been practicing chewing my food better and realized i really don't chew it i just shovel it in. old habits die hard. is anyone else being banded in sept? later, greg.

My social life tends to be centered around beer. I hang out with "Motorcylists". Just wondering what other drinks you guys have switched to that are not to foo foo. I know drinks are empty calories. Don't care for scotch, whiskey. Thanks
-
A personal question here! I was banded yesterday the 15th and I forgot to ask my doctor, but how soon can I resume having sex? Also what about driving? how soon can I resume driving? In terms of fitness, anyone here who has lapband performed has managed to get their skin tight just on exercise alone? I've read some people have a tummy tuck and what not, but anyone here achieved it through exercise alone? Thanks in advance for any responses!!

:cool2: Made you look!!!!! I posted this just because, I wonder who on earth buys this stuff. Someone must buy it, because my spam email is constantly selling it, and I know I have never bought anything like this.

Hey guys, Just curious if anyone out there wears under armour compression shirts under their shirts to keep everything appearing firmer?

I am just curious to know what some of the things in life you either want to do or hope to do with your weight loss surgery. For instance for myself some of the things I hope to do once I get to my goal weight are. 1. Cant wait to ride many of the Roller Coasters with my kids. I loved them growing up when I was a few years younger but since I gained a lot of weight I have not been able to enjoy them. 2. I have always wanted to go skydiving, and one day soon I hope to do that. 3. This one is more of a comfort thing for myself. I have always wanted a "sports car" With my weight loss I plan on getting a new Camaro Anyway I thought this might be an intere…

Ok heres my question. Is it possible to loose without getting fills. The reason i ask is ive lost a fair amount of weight since my post up diet. I have never had a problem loosing, just keeping it off. Im pretty motivated to start exexrcising and getting in shape. The band so far has gave me a great start. I just dont see the point in getting fills if you are loosing and can keep loosing comfortably. I know its there if i need it and i know i will need it to keep the weight off, but not so much to take it off __________________

Hey fellas.. was wondering to those who were banded already what type of band did you have put in? My surgeon does both types and usually leans towards the realize band. However he insisted that since I was a male to have the Lap-band band put in. He said it "fits" the male anatomy better. So.. just curious.. what type of bands do you all have? also.. do you guys have a lot of PB/stuck incidents? Im hopefully going in for my first fill next Thursday, I can't wait.. I am adhering to my diet of mushy foods (thank heaven for mashed potatoes) but food isn't filling me up like it did. Ever since my swelling went down my weight loss and feeling of fullness just stoppe…

I know there are probably other posts about this topic but wanted to throw it out in the men's room. Has anyone had a tummy tuck or any other kind of PS after they have lost their weight. Just looking for some advice, cost estimates. I guess I did not think that I would have this much flab around my stomach, chest and under my arms. No matter what I do at the gym, it is not helping and am going to resort to PS in about 2 months. Thanks for any info.

Hey fellas I am getting banded oct 21st. Is it just me or are the quote unquoute ideal weights way way off? I am 6'2 330. I would say a medium build. And the charts say I need to weigh 177! Which means I need to lose 153 pounds! If I weigh less than 220 I would look sick. I would really like to be 230 to 240. How did you guys set your "goal" weight? Off what the "charts" say or what you think is best for your body type? Thanks. Brent

So I go in Monday morning 9/21 for my band. All goes well, I'm sipping water a few hours later, try a little broth, all seems good. I check out and go home. (BCBS had authorized inpatient, but I knew I'd be more comfy at home). At home I have a bit of broth, and a nap. A bit of water and broth when I wake and then the pain started. Upper chest pain, hiccups, trying to burp. I assume I drank too fast and will just need to tough it out for an hour or so. 4 hours later it's even worse. The Doc says to go back to the hospital and he'll admit me. At the ER they do an EKG and chest x-ray for precautions. By then I'm throwing up what looks like foamy soap. My Doc decides that…

I wasn't sure where to post this so I stuck it up here. My shoe width is 6E(a real joy to buy shoes in that size). I was wondering if anyone knows if Nike, or other companies make a shoe that wide besides New Balance. I like my NBs but I want a change.

I was eating grilled chicken on a bed of wild rice. It tasted so good that I flashed back to an old eating habit: focus on the next bite and the forget what's in my mouth already, swallow it. The following happened over the 5 to 8 minute period or so: First symptom: The first thing was the feeling I've had several times, the pain in the esophagus. Every other time it went away after waiting a minute. Second symptom: Rather than the food dropping to Stomach#2, it just sits there like a fat guy behind 8 skinny ladies in a buffet line. Third symptom: Drink a sip of Water. Not helping. It's not going through. Wait, this may not go down. Fourth symptom: All …

what the hell.... how do I get rid of the fat under my belt... it is the fatest part of me now and it isn't going away. I am at 225 (down from 320 at my heaviest) and I want to start working out to get rid of this... does anyone know the best excercise?

My insurance will pay for RNY or Lap Band only. Which should I get? I a man about 305 pounds and 5'10.
-
I attended a seminar recently and seeing the stats on weight loss were shocking to me. My numbers are rough but say 45% of excess weight for band and 75% for RNY. The doctor seemed to imply that with a high BMI patient such as myself with around 200 pounds to lose, RNY would be the preferred choice. I feel confident that if I can curb my hunger I have the drive and motivation to do everything else. Id love to hear from big losers using a band. Thanks

I just got banded on 08/04/09. Before this I had been diagnosed with prostatitis. I had been under my urologists care for nearly 6 months prior to LB surgery. Those of us men who have had this menacing condition can probably relate when I say that over the past 6 months since being diagnosed I have lost an enormous amount of sleep, having to get up several times a night to empty my bladder. I had tried 3 different types of antibiotics and several different other meds to relieve the symptoms but none of them ever really cured the condition. I was told upfront by my urologist that even though this condition is common, it is difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to t…

I know there's similar threads elsewhere, but I was curious about the male perspective. For me: I didn't realize the social impact of not being able to drink beer. Somehow grabbing a mixed drink or tea doesn't quite work the same when everyone else is downing suds.

I’m so excited!!! I had my body fat tested hydrostatically today and found out that I am “Average” at 22.3%. You can read the details of my testing in this other post. I still have some weight to lose to get into the “Good” range and I need to do some toning of my arms, man-boobs, and tummy – but boy am I excited about being an “Average” guy:thumbup:

I am two weeks post surgery and went to my first training yesterday, am I pushing it? I was careful that everyone knew to be sure to pull there punches to my midsection. I also did a couple falls but that did tended to be a little painful so stopped doing falls after that. Thoughts, should I wait a bit longer?

I am an avid golfer, and play on several mini tours, and Canadian Tour events. How soon has anyone got the sticks back out? I have read many posts saying 6 weeks, but my Dr. said as soon as I feel up to it. Well it has only been a week, and I feel up to it. What damage can you do if it is too soon? I know John Daly was hitting balls after 10 days, although he is probably not the best example to follow. LOL!!! Thanks, Mike

I finally got approved, and I have a surgery date of Aug 14th. For any of you out there that are firefighters, I was wondering how much time you took off after your surgery?

Am I the only one that is going through weight loss/weight gain in cycles around my monthly adjustments? Is it a first few months thing or is it something I am doing? I have lost 60 lbs so far and when I get an adjustment, I do really well, though I really have never felt much restriction. I keep hoping the doc will get aggressive since I have had no issues with vomiting or even coming close. Does all this eventually level out?

I have been cleaning out closets and found quite a few things I thought I would pass on. However, trying to find the clothing x-change on here took the better part of 30 minutes so I thought I would post a link. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/groups/clothing-x-change.html I will be glad to tell you more about any of the items I have listed that you might be interested in but please be considerate of my time and if you aren't really interested, don't ask for pics, measurements, etc. I am glad to provide them, though, if you need or want them. I am only asking for prepaid shipping through PayPal. I have appreciated the gift of clothing through others on here and ho…

I go in for my preop next week and I am scheduled for surgery 3rd week of June. I have been planning on the lapband but I have heard some horror stories that now have me second guessing myself. Bad infections being one and "weight gain" being another. How the heck can weight gain be a problem? I'm also worried about health problems that may occur as a result of the banding and my new eating habits. Are there side effects? I've heard with a bypass, gallbladder removal usually comes after a year due to it failing from lack of protien. Anything like that with banding?

Hello Gentlemen. I am a newbie around here and have been lurking for about a month now, getting a feel for the board and learning a lot about the band. I am a self employed remodeling contractor here in So Cal and am wondering if there are any other contractors here that have been banded? I am a one man shop that subcontracts a lot of the specialty trades but do most of the work myself. Obviously, I will discuss this with my doc as I proceed, but am interested in any personal experiences. Thanks.

Ok guys, sorry for invading your Men's Room, but I am a woman who needs some input. My husband cheated on me the first couple of weeks we were dating, years ago. He came clean when we started getting serious and has not done it again, that I can tell. I had my suspicion about him in the beginning. We've now been married nearly 4 years, and have two beautiful children. Yesterday, I went to pick up my kids from daycare and their provider and I always chit chat. She made a joke about how my husband was text messaging her daughter (who also works at the daycare) the other night and asking how she liked living on her own now (she recently got her own place) and how she was d…
