Hey guys. I'm hopefully a Jan bandster and have started a pre op food reduction (not dr ordered, but mainly as practice with guidance of nutritionist). I'm wondering how many calories you shoot for in a day? I've been trying to keep it under 1200 and have lost a lot quick (13 lbs in about 2 week with some off days). What are your daily goals banded or pre op?

Is there any advise you guys can give me my wife and i are excited but we sure would appreciate any advice or info yall can give thanks everyone

OK ladies, since you clicked the link I guess you can chime in too I apologize if I offend anyones sensibilities, I just saw this happen again today and was wondering where to post this question when the MAN ROOM came to mind. OK, I've seen this a few times and am consumed with curiosity. From time to time I see full grown men when using a urinal unzip, unbuckle, unhook and pull their underwear down and whiz over the top of the waste-band. WHY? I find this absolutely one of the most stupid things on the planet. Did no one ever teach them to simply unzip, fish around through the underwear fly and pull it out and go? Even if you're wearing "fashion" underwear wit…

I am really enjoying some things I have not enjoyed in years. I've lost 50 lbs since the start of my dieting a few months ago, most of which after I got the sleeve Dec 6th. Getting out of the van without having to put the seat all the way back - and not forcing my belly past the steering wheel. Not getting winded putting on my socks! Not brushing against the shower door when I am exiting the shower. Not strangling my junk when I sit - my pant legs aren't tight any more. Sitting with the dog, he actually lies on the recliners cushion rather than half on my leg. The actual TASTE of food rather than the AFTER taste of what's left after I half chew it and swallow as much …

Women get ads for shape wear while men don't. Try Under Armour clothes. They have snug fit to hold the lose skin in place and support the body. Look for outlets as the t shirts alone are $28 each if you get direct. Been using for a week now and it makes a difference.

Dave from Louisville,KY here. I was sleeved last Monday (9/19). Top weight 2 years ago was 400lbs. Sleeve weight was 323. I look forward to getting to know my fellow losers in the mens area! I plan on getting back to the gym after the 6 week no lift and getting rolling with my new life. I'm 42 and don't know why I waited so long to pull the trigger on this.

I now have a surgery date... It's on Halloween.

Did anyone have any issues with urgency incontinence before VSG? Did the loss of body weight reduce this problem? Thanks

A serious question here, how hard is it to lose that annoying pad of fat around the crotch. Has anybody needed liposuction to remove the fat around this area? Thanks.

I have been single now for almost a year. I dont go to clubs or bars to meet new guys. I pretty much dont look. I am 29yrs old female and am looking for a good man friend near my age that has the band or is at any point in their journey. I wanna be there for u and i hope u would be there for me. Maybe we could start excersizing together or something. I am just looking for a male friend right now if some thing happens then well something happens. I am not looking for a date just a friend.

This article didn't have Sleevers in mind but we can use some of the info here to get more Testosterone flowing through us. The third one surprised me and I was thinking that it was like a way of life for us. Well sort of.... 13 Ways to Naturally Boost Your Testosterone Levels By Ron Geraci, Men's Health, December 25, 2000 The normal level of testosterone in your bloodstream is between 350 and 1,000 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dl). Like combable hair, those quantities silently start to wane around age 40. You lose about 1 percent a year -- a harmless decline in the short term, but a cause of obesity, brittle bones, muscle loss and impotence by the time you reach your…

Hey fellas Navigating the picture section on the site is a nightmare. Im a visual guy and seeing progress from sleeve results motivates the hell out of me, but the ladies have the market cornered on before and after pics. Can we get a thread going with some picture results going. Its worth 1000 words!

Does it matter, does it get in the way, is it a turn off? How have you guys handled it and how have the partners handled it. Do you feel more self conscience with the loose skin?

Hey fellas, So I have lost 103 lbs so far and im 27lbs away from goal. I was just wondering how many people here have developed a healthy eating mentality and get upset at over weight people that stuff there face. My wife gets on me and says that a year ago that was me but what ever I just want everyone to eat healthy now. I get disgusted when I see the portions people in general eat at restaurants and cant believe I use to eat that way.

I am almost two weeks out and I have been doing great. Minmal pain the first two days, been able to eat and drink according to what is on my current diet plan. (Can't wait for something I can actually chew. How the hell are you supposed to spend thrity minutes eating Jello and Soup?"?") My question is this. Just above the incision where they took my stomach out there is a kind of hard swelling. It doesn't hurt or anything, just sort of weird. Anybody else have this?"

It's gonna kill some of us. I was recently talking to my brother and told him I was getting WLS, The Sleeve in particular. The guy is 6'1" and weighs 500lb. Already a BMI in the 60's I believe (or very close) and is on dialysis and a Type II Diabetic. I for years have urged him to do something. He always replies "you're nearly my size, who are you to advise me?". And I've tried my share of diets, exercises, hypnosis (yes that too) and anything else to lose weight. When VSG came into my life I was again interested in WLS. Before, I had no favor with Gastric Bypass or the Lap-Band. When my doctor began her rundown of the various ones she bored me until she began talking abo…

Ok guys, I'm pretty much a newbie to the website, only joined a few weeks ago. I got my surgery date last week. It's September 6th, three weeks from today. I gotta admit, I'm getting nervous. I had Lap Band surgery four years ago (it failed, miserably) so this is a revision. It's the fact that they'll be cutting out 90% of my stomach that's freaking me out. Yeah, I know that's what I signed up for, it's just the procedure itself that's making me nervous. I had a client who had bypass surgery a few years back and when they went to make the connections her stomach/intestinal tissue was so fragile they could barely reconnect. She had tons of problems with leaks and a…

Just registered with this site. Been looking around and all I was able to find were woman posters. Good to find other male WLS members. Having gastric plication surgery this coming Wednesday, 8/17/11. Any one here had this surgery done by Dr. Watkins, of the Cincinnati Weight Loss Clinic? I'd like your opinions if you care to share. Seriously looked at going to Mexico but opted to spend the extra money to have surgery done in US. Planning on loosing around 115 pounds. Have lost 19 pounds so far on my pre op diet. Walking two miles a day five days a week. Couple questions: Any one else find Unjory tastes really bad? I ended up sending it back. Tried several…

This is a real issue and I'm sorry if it offends anyone. This is about the only site I regularly visit that is related to health so I thought I'd bring it up and see if anyone had any ideas. When the wife and I made whoopie last week ago I noticed my seminal discharge had a slight yellow color to it. I thought it was odd but was not concerned. Last night we did it again and I noticed this time it was BROWN. Nasty looking and kind of scary too. This morning we tried again for no other reason then to check it's color and it was brown again. I've searched online and a few suggestions are blood in the semen, perhaps due to a broken blood vessel, perhaps because of a…

I'm just beginning this program, evaluation is on the 10th and operation should be two weeks after. After five years of wondering, I,m finally going to do it. Weight is easy for me to take off, but keeping it off seems impossible. Like many here, I'm trying to get rid of Diabetes, Sleep Apnia and a bunch of fat guy problems. At 74, I need more ambition and energy and the DRs. seem to think this will help so here I go!

so I was banded in October of 2008 and have maintained for almost 2 years..... damn thing actually works! Now I am going in for a abdomioplasty (tummy tuck) in October. Yep, thats right, I am going under the knife. Its not cheap, its not covered under insurance, but its time..... my "below the belt" fat is pretty severe and its time to take care of it. I am really looking forward to getting it done, now I just have to REALLY quit smoking. Now THAT is gonna suck!

I've been all over this site, and as much as I enjoy reading the stories that all of the ladies share, I've noticed that guys are few and far between. Just wanted to stop in and say, "hey". It's good to have some people that I can fully identify with.

Okay, okay, I know I'll get a whole lot of "size doesn't matter" responses to this, and it's embarrassing to even ask. However... To us guys, our "endowment" is intimately tied to our self-esteem. Now, on that front, I'm doing okay genetically speaking, but, well, I'm fat. Obese. The result of that is that I have a big gut hiding... things from me, and a fat pad above the pubic area that also makes stuff look smaller than it really is. Any guys (or gals for that matter) know if losing the weight will make the, um, package area more prominent? I know, I know, it's silly and shallow, but then again -- isn't all concern over our appearance silly and shallow? I'm n…

I hate the nicknames big guy dude fella whatever. I am really getting to the point where I feel that that is what I am judged by. I hate it. I have always been a big guy I'm 6 feet 320 I have my Dr. consult on 7/29 I really hope after I get banded and loose the weight the names will stop. They never used to bother me but lately I really can't stand it. I am tall and have broad shoulders. By no means do I think the band is going to get me skinny and lanky I just want to be the thinest me I can be and just be Mike.

Ok, so after way too long a time of hemmin' and hawin', and gaining weight of cours, I have finally jumped through all the hoops and have been approved my surgery, which should take place in July. Dave, Jake, I know you're out there... thought I'd post here, in the men's room, and see if other guys wanna open up about this a bit. So, two months out from surgery and already the emotional rollercoaster begins... scared and excited, etc... Other guys go through the same thing? From what I've been reading on the posts, it seems like doctors approach surgery in a lot of different ways; some have pre-op liquid diets, some don't.. some do it for 14 days, some for 3... I hav…

So, as I've lost this 120 pounds, I've noticed that my weight has moved around a bit. My ass has looked different over the past couple of months. Maybe it's things tightening up, or maybe it's just fat evening out in my body? I haven't lost anything in the past couple of months, but my pants fit me better, and shirts fit different. Kind of odd. Anyone else notice this?

Hi, So...I'm getting banded in about 2 weeks and I've started my pre-op diet - started it a bit early - been on it about 5 days. So far so good - shakes are tolerable and lean lunches aren't that bad either. My problem is with the fact that in order to do the pre-op right the choices and tastes are rather limited. Yes, I have a list of all the wonderful "shakes" you can make - but I'm not really a shake/smoothie kinda person. I enjoy food, not for emotional or stress reasons, but for the quality and taste (I know - a form of addiction). So my question to those who've been banded for a while is: Will I be able to eat high-end, quality restaurant foods or will a trip…

I have gout. It's very painful. I really hope that the weight loss from the sleeve helps eradicate it. Anyone have experience with this? I was trying things for my upcoming clear diet and made and ate some Miso Soup and it triggered a gout flare. I guess it was the high salt and the bean curd.

Hello all, My name is Darren Moore and I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Virginia Tech. Alex, (founder of this site) gave me special permission to tell you guys about my dissertation study…. I am currently recruiting participants for my study, which will examine men’s experiences after having weight loss surgery. The tile of my study is, “Life After Bariatric Surgery: Men's Perspectives on Self-concept, Relationship Satisfaction, and Social Support.” I am looking for 15-20 men who would like to participate in my study. Participation would consist of completing a 60-90 minute interview over SKYPE if you live far away from me (I live…

First of all I'm a noob on here. Just found this sub forum on accident. It's awesome that this is here. Okay, well I haven't had the surgery yet. I've already had the consult, now I am waiting to get the upper GI, and the psych clearance. I have PPO insurance, so the only question the doc told me is whether or not I have to do the 3-month diet. I'm being proactive and doing it anyway figuring it's going to take a few months for the upper GI, and for the insurance company to figure out if they are going to approve it without the 3-month diet. Enough with the intro. So are their any car guys on here? I'm in my early thirties, but I've owned thirty cars so far. N…

Hey I'm 18 days post op and I have lost around 30 pounds, I'm really really anxious to hit the gym and see what I can do. I know I have to take it easy in the beginning, but man I'm ready! My doctor says no heavy lifting for four weeks, I've also read some wait six, what do you guys think, what were some of your experiences?

So guys, I need some suggestions on ways to hit some "problem areas" that I've been noticing since losing 100 lbs (with maybe 15-20 more to go). Unfortunately, all the flab was hiding the fact that my muscles weren't really all that I'd hoped. My legs are/were tree trunks, probably from carrying around all that weight, but even they have shrunk tremendously. Fortunately, I'm not having too much of the "deflated balloon" look -- I think my skin will pull back nicely, despite me being 40 (we guys just have it easier than women, I think...). And the fact that my testosterone has DOUBLED on its own since losing all the weight I've lost so far should really help me out. …
