Firemen with the Band

Recommended Posts

Hey fellas

I noticed there are several fireman who have the band. I am getting mine next wenseday. I was wondering if you guys could share some of your experiences with me. All the guys at my station suppport me, and I have already arranged to have 6 weeks off. Was that enough/not enough time for you? I work at a fairly busy station 8 or 9 calls on a 24 hour shift, did you notice any difference in the ablility to do your job, etc? Thanks.

Brent

I was off for 3 weeks and it felt like it was too long, I went stir crazy at home for that long. When I came back to work I hopped right into the swing of things, and haven't looked back. I do keep a Protein bullet(45g) with me pretty much at all times, because I have noticed on any extended fire attack be it vegetation or good working structure, I get a little weak and that protein gives me a pretty decent boost. My station averages about 4000 calls a year, so we stay pretty busy as well.

I was off 3 weeks the only thing that was sore was my port area. When you have your surgery the first week you will have lots of gas and it hurts make sure you have gas x strips there awesome it helped me out alot and walk alot the more you walk the faster the pain goes away. I have had my band for 2 months and i have lost 43 pounds um doing well and love my band it sure works . Good luck keep in touch

Would have been back after 3 weeks but could not clear the physical due to a high heart rate which required an extra 2 weeks.I had just gotten new bunker gear measured for a 340 pound guy,now at 210 it looks like I could get in them twice.Chiefs gonna throw a fit when I ask for new ones but im gonna wait until I see where I level off.Boots and helmet still fit, gloves are too big, never knew you lost weight in your hands.

I had to wait about 4 weeks. Now the gear I was wearing looked more like a tarp on me then anything. I noticed that my helmet doesn't fit very well but I refuse to give up my new yorker. Plus I kinda fell off the wagon and am getting myself back ontrack.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
