I had my surgery on January 29th. Since the preOp diet I'm down 37 lbs. I'm happy with the results but I have to say I miss food. I think it's because I'm not allowed to eat right now. Is anyone dealing with this right now? The shakes are making me gag lately because it's so repetitive. Other than that I'm so happy about the results. I can feel it. I notice the difference. I just really miss the "chew" maybe. HELP!!! Tell me I'm not alone.

Fellas, doc told me I could start doing gummy vitamins, which is great because I'm tired of these chewable vitamins. Anyone taking any? What kind do you all like? Also, I'd like to start taking fish oil again but I'm not allowed to take the big pills that they typically come in. What do you all take?

Got the call this morning from the surgeons office telling me I have been cleared by the insurance company (BCBSIL) to have surgery. All that is left is the clearance from Pulmonology, who is waiting for clearance from my PCP and my Oncologist (Non-Hodgkins lymphoma 2 years ago). I see the two doctors over the next two Tuesdays and I should be all set to go. A 15 day Protein liver shrinking diet and then they staple away. Yikes, this sh*t just got real.

Found an interesting albeit long (31 minute) video on an interesting topic. Thought I would share and maybe open up some discussion on this topic. I haven't been back to weight training long enough yet to really comment on my own body, but I am around 60-80g carbs/day so I'm curious as to what I'm going to see happen with myself as I start to increase weight training. Video includes: Nutritionist Alan Aragon, MS Muscle Scientist Dr. Brad Schoenfeld New York Times Best Selling Author Adam Bornstein http://crackingthemusclecode.com/low-carb-diets-and-building-muscle/?ref=251

I've been in the December Surgery thread of the Pre-Surgery Forum. But I wanted to know from the men here if any of you, who've had the surgery, have had buyer's remorse. My surgeon's dietitian told me everyone has it, but they mostly get over it by the time they're eating soft foods. The idea of doing this to my internal organs FREAKS ME OUT!

I just wanted to check in and say hey. I am still in the middle of my evaluation process with the doctors and shrinks. I passed the physch test pretty well and have gone to the required support group and nutrition evaluation. I have the nutrition class next Saturday then the abdominal ultrasound the week following, still have the pulmonary clearance the last week of January and that should be all I need to get this thing done. What a pain in the ass, no? I'm also getting a little nervous considering I am chopping off two-third of my stomach. I went to costco yesterday and it dawned on me how much my life will change and how I will have to make major adjustments to ever…

I've lost over 100lbs in roughly 3.5 months, between the pre-op diet and the surgery itself. I'm starting to feel like a whole new person. I can shop at regular clothing stores (no more Big&Fat), I can fit in restaurant booths, ride roller coasters, I barely ever hear "hey big guy" and stuff like that anymore. It's amazing! I'm starting to prep myself for the inevitable tummy tuck, though. I look like a drippy, melted candle with my shirt off. Nasty cottage cheese-looking stuff around the bottom of my stomach and my belly button now has a butt crack! Don't get me started about the lunchlady arms and the pocket of skin/fat that won't go away on my inner thighs! Now t…

Hey fellas! I'm new around here, I get my sleeve jan 29!!!! I've already lost 24lbs and I start my pre op diet in 3 days. I have seen a lot of women like to exchange clothing as they lose weight, so why not us?!?! We could exchange anything nice worth exchanging like jeans, button downs etc. thanks!!!

I'm getting sleeved on the 13th of January. My only fear is silly. I don't mind needles and things like that. However, I really don't want to have a catheter put in. I had read through some posts and it seems pretty common. what was your experience?

Started this whole process back in March of 2013 and after a lot of bumps along the way, I'm finally approved. I will be getting my surgery date later this week. Looks like it's gonna be my New Year's resolution. (One I can't weasel out of this time).

Hey guys just wondering about your goal weights , I originally wanted to set my goal weight at 200 lbs I'm 5'9". I know that the government has all these weird BMI charts and at 200 it still appears I would be in the obese category. My body type is always huge thighs like a line backer and big ol pot belly. So should I shoot for a goal weight of 185, I want to reduce my body fat percentage to at least under 15%. What is your goal weight, and if you couldn't reach that goal at what weight do you feel comfortable being? I believe when I make 200 lbs I could be comfortable at this weight because I haven't been that small since I was a kid.

Surgery in three days. So I decided to head to the grocery store an stock up. I had already been to costco and got a couple case of Premier Protein and a bunch of Soup. Well, I went to two different stores and came home with only those squirt flavoring things for Water. That's it. I walked every isle and nothing. I guess the silver lining is, I'll save a bunch on buying food. I already emptied the kitchen of any and all "not good for me foods" (which means everything). I ordered a tub of unflavored protein mix, but there's nothing to mix it with. So, all I have now in the kitchen & fridge is shakes, water and........no and..... that's …

I would like to start jogging but my belly bounces around like a bowl full of jelly. Which means jogging only happens after I look around for no one around then watch the whole time I'm jogging. I went from a 4x to a 3x shirt in one month. I wear a 2x but it is very tight. Should I just get the 2x compression shirt and squeeze in it like a sausage?

Well, starting the pre-op liquid diet today. The Doc gave me a couple of days reprieve for the Holidays, but no getting around it now. Going cold turkey begins now.....ugh.

Was sleeved a little over two and a half months ago, and have now reached doctors goal weight, am now 5'8 and under 176. As expected I've noticed my legs are skinny, but thighs are flabby. Just looking for some advice on any exercises as well as some tricks to hide it so I'm a little less self conscious about it. Thanks :-)

I was doing my cardio the other day I felt good and was really getting into it. I decided to start jogging for the first time and....... Quickly realized I either need a sports bra or duct tape or at least safety glasses LOL. This problem is much better than weighing 350 I actually laughed but I am looking for suggestions being 43 the way I carried my weight and having lost 89 pounds already I don't see this getting any better. What can I do to at least slow the bouncing.

Hello, I am 6' 260 with a bmi of 35 and considering VSG. I've heard a lot of different opinions as to whether I have any business even having surgery to lose 75lbs. Early this year I was able to get down to 235 from 275 but most of it is back. I am able to keep my blood sugar and cholesterol at tolerable levels by eating less than 40g carbs per day but if I go off this plan they both go up into bad ranges. What are your thoughts?

Gentlemen, I'm a 39 male weighing 250 with a BMI of 35. I've struggled with weight pretty much my whole life absent a few years from late high school through college. Over the last few years, the weight has become harder to deal with. I can't participate in all the activities I'd like to, my cholesterol is high, blood sugar is getting elevated, clothing is harder to find, etc. Past diets -- adkins, calorie count, etc. work until they don't. I've been approved for the surgery but am having some second thoughts -- is this too drastic? Will I become a social outcast for only eating two bites of food at lunches and dinners (I have a busy social life)? What about…

I have searched all over forum so I apologize if this has been asked already but should I have my Wife stay overnight with me at Hospital after surgery? We have twin 8 year old girls that she could stay home with. Will I need her help because I will be awake during night?

I am pre-op and plan to get a treadmill for Christmas. Can you guys tell me what kind of treadmill you have and what you like and don't like about it. I used to have a treadmill that I did not like. When I would try and run, it would stall when my lead foot landed. I guess the motor wasn't strong enough to carry me.

I was approved this week for sleeving, pretty excited, I am about 285, 6', and am 'near diabetic' (if that is even a term), with mild/moderate sleep apnea. I have struggled with weight/diets since my early 20's, I am 34 now. Biggest worry is people I do tell, that I want to tell, thinking I am taking a shortcut, but I know this is only a tool and there is a lot harder work ahead then just counting points or exercising, this is going to be a complete lifestyle change for me. I want to get involved in these forums for support and engage with people on the same path. So my 1st question; my pre-op appointment is this Thursday, the mentioned there was a chance to have surger…

With my weight loss, I realized that I need to buy new winter coats. The coats I have now are way too big in the tummy area. But I also noticed that it seems that my arms have shrunk in length because all the sleeves are too long on the older coats. I don't really think my arms have shrunk in length, I just think that the coats fitting more loosely means that sleeves are running down my arms further. It is one of the unexpected results of weight loss. I always bought tall clothes (I am 6'4" tall) and was starting to think companies were cheating out when it came to the lengths of the sleeves. I guess gaining that much weight just made the shirts and jackets I wore fi…

I'm in the very early stages of possible VSG (seminar). I'm 36 years old, probably 6'3 to 6'4 and weigh in at just a tad under 330 pounds. I was at my heaviest probably in the spring at about 340 pounds. I've tried Weight Watchers successfully in 2011 (well kinda of) and was able to get down to about 280 pounds with regular exercise but, it all came back. I still am fairly active but, don't really see myself as obese mentally but, I do when I look in the mirror. My family loves to tell me I'm gigantic, but when I've brought up surgery, I'm told "you're not that big, you can lose it with a good diet." I've tried numerous diets only to be moderately successful for a …

Have to admit I'm anxious about my upcoming surgery and new lifestyle. I can't imagine not having solid foods for 15 days and then soft food for the next 15. The day I had my colonoscopy I had such a headache from just doing liquids for a day. I suppose this period will help me face my eating issues head-on. I've been clean and sober for 29 years so I'm hoping many of the tools I learned will help me again. Each new challenge seems bigger than the last, but if I can quit drinking and smoking, I can do this too! The main thing I learned in the past recoveries was that I'm not doing it alone. Support is everything.

Had my surgery on nov 5 th. Went in at 283 for days later I am at 266. I feel pretty good getting all my fluids in with 60 grams of protein. Looking forward to more results. ..

M almost four weeks out. I've lost almost 40 lbs. love the weight loss side of things but am frustrated about how slow I have to drink and eat foods. It's driving me nuts. Don't know how I can get any real protein going even when I can finally start to have some fish this Thursday. Am I just frustrated because it's been over a month since I've really chewed anything? Anyone else have this problem and get over it? Any help? Gum is okay but just wanting to bite into a burger or something.

So I've got a few suits I purchased from there, and they claim to do lifetime alterations. What I'm wondering is, how much can they shrink the waist of the pants? Because my waist is shrinking and soon I'm going to be like one of those teenagers that thinks it's "cool" to walk around carrying your pants with one hand...

Never let it be said that I don't love you. I dare you to not get addicted to this. http://www.shockabsorber.co.uk/en/bounce-o-meter/ Be sure to play with the "level of activity" and "adjust view" features. You'll know when you got it right.

I am exactly one month away from my surgery date. I know having cold feet is normal, but I still have a number of nagging issues. First the basics, I'm 43 years old, 6' 1" and 288 pounds (37.5 BMI) and sleep apnea. Typical issues with weight loss. Here are the issues I'm wrestling with: 1) Image. I have always been a bigger person. Kind of become am image that defines. Here's the odd thing. For years I could barely look at myself in the mirror without thinking that I was way overweight and needed a major intervention. But since deciding on the surgery I cannot help looking in the mirror and thinking, "you're not that back!" 2) Vanity. Why do I think I am being vai…

43 Years ago.....seems like a long time...but yet some things never go away no matter how long it's been.... So today, I'll take all that in, add a little of the old PTSD that also never quite goes completley away, go to the Gym at 5am, then off to work....all that and $3 will get me a double espresso today.... But wait...that's what I do everyday, so for me, today is no different....nobody asks a Vet what they think of Veteran's Day.... \ \
